Registering credit card on Russian SamsungApps - Bada Software and Hacking General

I have question to our Russian colleagues.
I would like to buy some stuff from Russian SamsungApps, but to do that I need a Russian credit card.
So, I thought than maybe there is a possibility to buy a prepaid credit card to which I will be able to transfer my means of payment from PayPal.
Any suggestions where I could get one? I mean the simpliest internet credit card (not plastic one), as cheap as possible. The great advantage would be also if a bank which provides this will have an english version of it's website (I'm not very familiar with Russian language).

I need one of those for me too

Yeah, when I realized that for instance Sygic Mobile Maps can be bought for 220RUB (depend on version, but most of them cost this much) which is 22PLN (about 5-6€) I thought WTF?? Normally in countries where € is currency it costs 20€, and in Poland it's even worse - 100PLN for MM Poland (25€).
Of course, it's not the only case:
NFS Shift: 11,80RUB (bargain sale, but still) - 29 Cents
Fruit Ninja: 5,90RUB (normal price) - 15 Cents
Plants vs. Zombies - 42,34RUB - 1€
Those prices are about 4 - 8 times lower than in other countries.

Copilot question & latest 02 deals

I should be receiving the Copilot bundle from O2 soon - I understand that is comes on a 256Mb MicroSD - can I move the files to a 1GB card - and if so are there any tricks I need to know about?
BTW - I was on an 18 month contract (200 mins) with 6 months to run and was quoted £100 to upgrade - but at the till this cahnged to £30 with another £50 to bundle copilot - so I was a lot happier than I expected to be... It seems the prices have just changed. I'm a £25 a month spender btw.
yes it will copy no prolem i have done it ...
yes it will copy no prolem i have done it ... - i bought a 2 gig card off ebay simply copied and pasted via card reader all the files and in it went worked out of the box so dont be afraid .. its no problem .... ps i am an avid tomtom user and the copilot i find it hard to say is very very good !!! infact so good i upgraded it to full european mapping for £99 - if you too decide to upgrade via their website .. dont give them a call as if done on the web there is no way of buying without postage of £7. ( £7 for a keycode via email not likely ).
enjoy your device i certainly am, p.s the web tracking facility is awesome -

O2 Orbit - CoPilot or TomTom?

I am currently due a handset upgrade with O2.
They told me that I can have an O2 Orbit (HTC Artemis) for £159.99 without CoPilot, or £299.99 with CoPilot. I am assuming that "CoPilot" just includes maps of UK and Ireland (the lady I spoke to didn't seem to know a lot about the package).
Looking at the TomTom web site, it seems that I can get complete maps of Europe (and probably better software!) for £85.
It therefore seems like a no-brainer to me that I should get the handset without CoPilot from O2, and then buy a copy of TT6.
Am I missing something obvious?

No brainer, p.s. a friend of mine just went from Orange to O2 today in an O2 shop, his bill is normally about £50 a month and basic O2 package is £40 a month they gave him the Orbit with Co-Pilot for free.
You should get a free Orbit and the copilot pack from O2 if you are taking a £40 contract
O2 shops give you £30 for ANY old handset you care to hand in
You can then ebay your copilot for around £50 and buy TomTom
Hays
The O2 Co-Pilot Package includes full European Maps, a 256MB Mini-SD Card, Car Mount and Car Charger. It doesn't include a case
Co-Pilot costs about £85, a Micro SD Card will cost you £10ish (if you shop around, at least my 1GB did), a car mount will cost you £20 if you go for the basic one and a USB Car Charger will cost you £10.
I've got GPS kit and all of it's good quality but I purchased a brodit mount in the end because I all ready had the Brodit Brackets in my car. And I ended up going back to TomTom because I prefer the interface.

I am on a All Time 200 Pay UpFront tariff with O2 - I pay £149 for 12 months (which is about £12.50 per month) and get 200 anytime minutes per month included, so I have no desire to change tariffs, especially as I never use the full 200 minutes in a month.
I rang O2 back today, and this time I was quoted £149.99 without CoPilot and £199.99 with it - and they confirmed that the "with" prices includes a car mount. Only problem is that they have no CoPilots in stock (they do have the phone), so suggested that I need to go to an O2 shop.
I'll try that, but I strongly suspect that they will quote me a higher price, especially given that I do not want to change my tariff!
just so you know....
ive done this twice!
go into the o2 shop, as long as you are within 3 months i think you can cancel your current contract and open a new one and get the phone for free rather then pay the £100+ to upgrade. this requires a £40+ contract.
i got my alpine & universal this way at least a month and a half before my upgrade date.
It was the lady in the shop that told me this, she even printed the letter to post to o2 to cancel the current contract and gave me the uni right there and then. very helpful!
i only went into town to buy some jeans
i have tom tom installed but having issues with it stalling on the splash screen 9 times out of 10! the tom tom i have has european maps with the speed cameras POI. I got the Co Pilot kit free with my orbit and am considering ebaying it.
Question:
Does someone know if Co Pilot is more stable on the Artemis than TT6? If so, i'll go to that!
Also, if I do decide to do this, can i get the speed camera infor for co pilot?
Thanks!
Hi. I haven't used TT since I think it was called En Route, and on a Psion 5! But CoPilot works fine on an Orbit. I've had it (CoPilot 6, full Europe maps) on an XDA Exec, with a BT GPSlim236, running from a 2Gb Ultra SD, even though ALK recommend it installed to main memory, and it was excellent. The same prog runs fine on the Orbit, every bit as quickly, although I was quite worried about the possibility of the Micro SD card suffering corruption, as many members here have suffered. So far it has been perfect, no problems at all, except the built in receiver is a little slower to first fix, and I've seen it having a few problems for a few seconds sometimes finding exactly where it is. There is a socket for an external aerial, which I think would help, but it seems that getting one with the correct connector is very difficult. In the meantime, I've tried my BT 236 with it, and reception now is excellent. However, you may want to sell the CoPilot 6 fairly quickly on Ebay, because CoPilot 7 is due to be released very soon - it was announced a week ago, and the value of 6 may then go down a bit. Besides having the latest maps, 7 will also be WM6 compatible, and it definitely works on an Orbit, because the guys from ALK were demonstrating it on Orbits.. Speed camera updates and lots of other POIs can be downloaded from
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com
on payment of a subscription fee. Hope this helps..
Actually, that's a thought for everyone here hoping for an upgrade to WM6 - will all the software, including TT, still be functional?

I always seem to get a deal every year on a different phone..
Always get the phone number for the customer loyalty department.
Shop around for a good deal from other providers then phone the loyalty department and tell them that their competitors have offered you a better deal to switch networks. (I always make the competitors deal sound a little better than it is) Ask the customer loyalty department if they can better the offer if you stay with them. You can usually get a cashback offer that blows away anything you can get over the counter.
Last time I switched providers I kept my old handset, got a brand new razor phone (which I ebayed) and got half price line rental for 9 months. I don't use that many minutes so the money I got from ebaying the phone payed for my bill for the whole year!
i have 1 on these co-pilot pack with my orbit but i do not need it so i am willing to sell it to some one on this site for £60 in p&p
the guy i got it off also provided a cd with all the tom tom software and maps

copilot
I have been using copilot for real.
I have no experience of TomTom.
Copilot seems fine but slow to start up - otherwise it takes me very accurately to where I want to mine with very little problem.
I got my Orbit as a free upgrade and paid £50 for co-pilot Uk but it was UK only. They supply all European maps but the code that I enter only gets me UK.
tomtom6 works flawlessly on my xda orbit. have maps of western europe and have been using it in a motorhome
Definitely TomTom
You need to upgrade to version 6.02 for stability - you can torrent it or message me... really simple installation, just copy everything to your SD cars and run the install cab.
Works flawlessly, 100% stable, much better than it did on my old XDA Mini S.
I got Copilot with my Orbits (three for my company), tried it and hated it... you can't use it quickly with your finger in the car, unlike TomTom... TomTom's interface is much better. Copilot also takes ages to load. Sold my copilot software (3 copies) on ebay for £40 each!!!
If you need a car bracket, the O2 Copilot kit is just a standard multi-pda mount, you can get them for a fiver on ebay. If you get one with adjustabl;e feet at the bottom of it, you can supeglue the usb lead into position to give a permanent charging cradle!
I've also designed a custom menu interface for my TomTom to remove unneccessary buttons... you can do it free online at http://www.skux.net/tomtom/menubuilder2/index.php
I got Copilot because it was £40, versus £110 for TomTom. It's a fair price as it's about half a good. Mind you I haven't used it much, because it sucks more than getting lost in the first place. TomTom every time.
Got my upgrade XDA Orbit for free (£25 Anytime 200 & the 20Mb data Bolt-on for £10) - & co-pilot was £49.
I tend to agree though - it doesn't look good. Awkward to use and pretty non-intuitive (have been used to using my BMW system).
Can anyone answer as to how you just get the map displayed on co-pilot 6 without having to have a route entered? Would just like to know where I am some of the time, not necessarily to have fannied about entering a route and all...

Can I trust Chinese wholesalers on the web?

I found a portal of wholesalers and factories of China and Taiwan
some of them ask for a minimum of 50 pcs of Desire and a few accept to sale a single Desire.
I asked live to a saleswoman about if it's the real original and final HTC Desire and she told me yes.
She told me it will cost me 190$ + DHL and only 4 days delivery time
could this be real or it's a thief?
Sounds a bit suspect? Bit too good to be true?
Look for reviews of the wholesaler on Google and see if they are reputable?

suspicious
sounds very suspicius - probably it's just a look alike -I have seen many of them on the web for the diamond - diamond 2 etc.
ask if it support two sims - chinese phones usually do - and if it does it's sure a fake
Yes definitevely scammers
I googled the zip code and name they gave me
and they stole many people yet
No original Stuff in China available for us average people
Never trust chinese Companies. None of them have Licence to sell e.g. original HTC Phones/Parts to anywhere in the World.
Any known Company in the World gives legal Certificates and Licences to their Wholesalers.
None of those chinese Wholesalers have any legal base to sell these products to Europe or the US.
Price: How would genuine Brands keep up their pricing poilicy if all those chinese wholesalers would sell cheap stuff to the whole world?
Watch out for Chinese scams!
If you do business with those chinese fraudulents, use paypal in combination with your creditcard. this will give you the advantage of being able to stop the payment when the goods are not delivered, filing a complaint with both paypal and your credit card company.
Also, it will be useful to check out who is the domain registrar/registree using http://who.is/. If the full set of data on the domain (name, adress, telephone etc.) is available, it is less likely that it is a scam. Also look up other people's experiences with the particular seller.
Anyhow, the father of a friend of mine fell in the trap of such a site. After full payment he got a mail from the seller telling him that the Chinese customs would not let the package true and that, if he wanted to receive his goods, he had to bribe them. Of course the Chinese firm offered to do this for him, trying to lure him into transferring more money still. Long story short, it just a scam like the "Nigerian Prince" scams.

Availability/Cheaper in the Airport? (UK)

Just a quick one - I'm going to Germany on the 6th, think it's worth holding out on pre-ordering and seeing if they're in stock anywhere at Gatwick... think I'll save that much?
I don't know about UK but never saw a phone cheaper at duty free airports (middle east like Dubai) ... All the best if u can get it cheap
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk
its not even necessarily the case that Dixons will have it in stock on the 6th in an airport shop. i'd definitely phone ahead before getting your hopes up
anywhere in the EU there's no more duty free
unless you go to Turkey or Middle East or something...sometimes prices @ airports are more expensive than retail stores downtown
online is your best bet
One answer: no.
Even in places where duty free still exists, the prices are normally higher than the with-duty price elsewhere. They prey on the gullible. About the only thing you save on is cigs and sometimes booze.

The best way to do it is to know someone in the channel islands.
We don't pay VAT here, so the HTC Once x is £400... Have someone order it online to here, then have them ship it over to you.

...and unless you're very lucky and get away with it, have to pay the VAT yourself when it arrives in the UK.

Import VAT
VAT is a tax normally charged on the supply of goods (and services) made by a VAT - registered business in the UK. For goods brought in or sent to the UK from the EU there's no extra VAT to pay unless you're ordering or sending purchased goods from one of the EU Special Territories, such as Jersey or Guernsey, in which case you'll have to pay import VAT.
The EU 'Special Territories' are The Aland Islands (Finland), The Canary Islands (Spain), The Channel Islands (UK), The French Overseas Departments of Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique and Reunion and Mount Athos also known as Agion Poros (Greece).
Goods imported to the UK from outside the EU are subject to import VAT, unless they are brought in as part of your duty free allowances.
Import VAT rate
The percentage charged is the same VAT rate that applies to similar goods that are sold in the UK.
The import VAT percentage rate is applied to the total value of the goods. In the case of goods brought in this is the sterling equivalent of the price paid abroad, as shown on the receipt. In the case of goods posted from outside the EU, it is the amount on the Customs Declaration, which includes the price paid for the goods, the cost of transport, postage and packing, insurance and any duty that may be payable.
Introduction to VAT
Import VAT allowances
If you're posting goods to the UK, or ordering them from a non-EU country, you, or the importer only have to pay import VAT above a certain value - however please note that from 1 April 2012 all merchandise sent to the UK from the Channel Islands is subject to import VAT. The import VAT relief value is different if you're posting a gift.
Import VAT in different situations
You can find out more about how import VAT and other taxes, duties or restrictions apply in the guides on bringing or sending goods to the UK under 'More useful links'.

If I buy a Tab S in the US and sent it to myself in Europe?

I am thinking about buying a Tab S in the US and having it sent to me in Europe because even with shipping it is significantly cheaper than buying here. (Nice little Samsung pricing scam: $399 in US and 399 euros here - a 35% difference!!!!) Is there likely to be a warranty problem OR, more importantly, activation or OS upgrade issues, IMEI or CSC problems? I know it can sometimes be a problem with activations on their phones if they are activated out-of-region.
arent most electronics more expensive in europe though? im thinking of buying from amazon too but only for non-LTE one.
the tab s is currently being sold in bahrain only the LTE version and as im a cheapskate i'll wait for the wifi versions in saudi
Warranty could be an issue as you would probably have to send it to the States for service. I purchased the Hong Kong version of the 7.7 and received what updates there were without any problems. Activation was not a problem either other than the opening screen being in Chinese.

They seem more expensive here, but as I pointed out 399 in dollars and 399 in euros. It's like Samsung doesn't really want price parity. I should have said I want the wifi only, so I don't know if activation, IMEI and CSC matter.
I dont know the Greek rules.
But if I was to ship it to the Netherlands I would have to pay
Initial purchase (no sales tax)
Shipping
Import tax
Sales tax over purchase price and shipping (21%)
Import handeling fee for your shipper (UPS, Fedex??)
A quick calculation shows I finnaly would have to pay 415 euros. Hardly a bargain.
If you send as a personal item / used electronics / (ahem) warranty repair [emoji12], all those problems go away - at least here. The one thing you do not do is send in an unopened factory box so they do not think you just bought it.
I live in France, I bought my Tab S 10.5 LTE on an Italian website.
I called Samsung France. The warranty is European, not worldwide. No problem for me.
The tab cost 100€ less than in France.
With shipping fees, I paid 512€ instead of 600€ in France.
Cool. What's the Italian site?
www.hw1.it
They only have the LTE version in Italy, no wifi only.
The price of the tab S offered on the italian site, with 3g/4g, is the same at the wifi-only version everywhere else. So, I am thinking, why not buy the 3g/4g+wifi. I never have to use the data connection, but if I ever desparately need 3g/4g, I can drop a SIM card into it. Hmmm. not a bad idea at all.
I bought my Tab S on the day of release in the US and walked back into the UK with it saving about 100 quid. I have added my device to my Samsung devices page and entered the serial number with no issues so guessing that as long as they don't want a receipt of purchase then warranty should not be an issue.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using XDA Free mobile app
When I asked Samsung France about European warranty, they answered me "As long as you have the bill/receipt, it is ok, your Italian tablet is under warranty in France too"

I want to buy the 8.4 lte unit as it is the same price as the wifi only version elsewhere, but I find it a little discomforting that the price is 100 euros cheaper than it will be offered elsewhere. Should I be concerned about the product this website is offering?
I'm not sure to understand your word...
Yes I bought the LTE version on this Italian website same price than wifi version in France, and I'm very happy with it.
I was in holiday this week, far from any wifi access point, I was very happy to have the LTE version (with my multi sim data plan).
Price in France for wifi version : http://www.materiel.net/tablette-tactile/samsung-galaxy-tab-s-10-blanc-105481.html
Price in Italy for LTE version : http://www.hw1.it/samsung-galaxy-tab-s-10-5-sm-t805ntsaitv/
Take the 8.4inch, for example. The French site's price for the wifi-only tablet is the normally suggested 399 euro price. The wifi/4g-lte version is recommended to sell for 499 euros in Europe. But the Italian site is selling that one for 399 euros - a 100 euros discount (discount similar to the 10.5 inch prices). So my question is: are you satisfied with product you got from the Italian site because I think the price is quite low compared to what it is "supposed" to be.
Well it seems the price is normal in Italy, if you check some comparing Italian websites.
Yes I couldn't be more satisfied, I really recommend this website.
I asked some info in English by mail, they called me on my phone to confirm the tracking number of the package...
I was afraid when I paid, but now I'm very happy.

Is it ok to flash an Austian Version e.g. CSC: T705ATO1ANF1 ???
1 will knox be triggered ?
2 is there any difference regarding GSM/LTE frequency bands or do all european devices have the same circuit boards ? One can look this up e.g. with myphoneexplorer (\System\build.prop Austria: ro.product.board=universal5420)
