Hi i upgraded to 2.3 a few days ago following this guide ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1135901 ) but i am not happy with my battery consumption using this ROM so i am hoping there is a way i can restore my nandroid backup i made during the upgrade i see it says this in the guide i followd
7. Create a nandroid backup of your current system by scrolling to “Backup & Restore” using VOL UP/DOWN key, and POWER button to execute (this is so that you can return revert back to your official ROM for warranty purposes
But how would i go about doing this .
thanks
in advance

to go back to ur froyo u need to enter recovery(vol down when u see blue led during M logo booting) and from dere u can restore ur froyo...after restoring enter bootloader and flash a fixed sbf of any froyo...(i am assuming that u backed up froyo).
I made a nandroid backup of my 2.2.2 is this what you mean, then can I use a uk 2.2.2 fixed sbf file?
Thanks djc

What file location on my sd card do i put my nandroid backup in for the clockwork recovery system to detect it as at the moment it sais no backup found but my backup is still in the origional location from the guide i followd when creating it “\goapkrev\backup"
And also to make things clear do i restore from my nandroid backup “System Only” like when i upgraded to 2.3 or do i restore my full nandroid backup ?
thanks
djc
EDIT: Found the folder location /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/2011-01???????? , but now when i go into recovery console then it opens clockwork recovery then when i choose advanced restore ect, it sais
cach.img is present
data.img is present
system.img is present
BOOT.IMG NOT FOUND <-- Is this a problem as i never had it i have my backup saved on my sd card and my pc and my laptop??
Update on this , i restored my nandroid backup then the fixed sbf file , and was back on 2.2.2 all working then i had in the notification area "damaged sd card" (The card is 4gb SDHC) when i cliked format it did nothing so i loaded into recovery console and tried to format it that way and it said complete, but the card would still not work in my phone , when i got home put the sd card in the pc and it opend but all the filenames were rubbish funny icons and random letters and the free space on the card was over 3gb, so i tried formatting in windows and it could not do it, give me an error, so then i used "EASEUS Partition Master " wich i got experiance with from before, and i formatted it suxcessfully then windows let me format it as normall, but phone would not boot with it inserted,
Then i decieded to instull full sbf of 2.2.2 uk as my device was shippd as 2.2.2 as standerd so i wouldnt need to go back to 2.2.1 ,
Still after all that the phone works fine and with some other sd cards i got here eg 2gb and 8gb sdhc it works fine but with that 4 gb sdhc card it stops at boot with the red logo.
Bear in mind this sd card performs as normall in my partners tocco lite and on my computer/laptop , so it is a bit strange to why my phone will not boot with it inserted, any one knoe something i could try to get it to work with my phone.
thanks for reading
djc
My problem with the sd card is now fixed windows was not showing me 7mb of un-partitiond space on the 4gb sdhc and this was causing the boot stick, so i had a proper look at the card with EASEUS Partition Master and was able to remove that unpartitiond space and now the card works fine again
thanks

Just about to root and install a custom rom but have a few questions:
I know how to root by using paul's r6 method, and also how to install a rom but my question is, I have tried searching and cant find an answer:
I want to use A2SD+, have an 8Gb micro sd card installed, which i have backedup on my PC but how to i prepare this for A2SD+?
I also have an old radio, how do i update to the newest radio 32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20? i have downloaded the file but not sure what to do
can anyone help?
cheers and sorry if this has been covered but i couldnt find it
Easy way:
Once you root, install ROM Manager from the Market and tell it to partition your SDCard.
Hard(er) way:
Use ADB. When I tried this I just got errors about it not being able to find the partitioning thing so someone else will have to help with that.
how to use ADB way? isn't this sub-forum wrong to ask these?
should be only for development questions

Great thanks, what about installing the new radio? do it first or root first, custom rom then new radio? what order?
»You go into recovery (start the phone with volume down and power held down)
Then do a nandroid backup, wipe the phone, and choose flash rom and radio. Your rom.zip should be on the root of the sd card. It's worth backing up the sd card too and repartition it into 0 swap; 512mb ext2 and the rest fat32 form recovery if you want to use apps2sd.
So back up sd and phone via windows and titanium backup
then boot into recovery
nandroid
partition
wipe / factory reset
install rom
install latest radio
reboot phone
restore sd card contents & restore via titanium«
ok thanks
so just by rooting it doesnt erase my data? e.g. contacts etc?

Cheers for the quick replies!
Guys i need help..
I try to instal new rom but from some reason i am on white screen with green HTC..ok ,no problem i have a backup but again from some reason i cant use backup.
What i to do ?
I can go to recovery but i dont have any other rom there.
TNX
Some extra information would be helpful.
So youre experiencing a bootloop? You can run recovery but it wont restore to your nand? What rom were you trying to flash? What procedure did you follow etc.
You could allways just take your sd card out use a card reader or another phone/device and connect to pc, copy rom to sd, enter hboot ... complete wipe and then flash again.
I dont know what is going on but i use card reader and put again new rom rcdmix but i cant instal..i mean i instal rom but when i do reboot its stock on white screen and green HTC.
Anyone?
From begining.
Last couple days i use RCDMIX 14 and after that i try new rom ..newSense DHD baadnwz V0.4c Runs from NAND,.
I use normal procedure and cant flash that rom so i decide to come back on RCDMix from backup.
From then i cant flash or restore nothing.
Did you wipe before flashing a new ROM? If not, do that
If you did you may have to go back to stock and start again
Ok you are trying to go from a data2ext rom to a normal a2sd rom.
1. Back up current sd card
2. Format sd card and the repartition as is advized by Baadnwz
3. Copy back up of sd card back onto card including 0.4c
4. Place card back into phone and enter hboot
5. Wipe everything in recovery (important)
6. Flash rom
This should work, i think the problems you are having is due to how the data2ext modifies the ext partition, so the format and re-partition should solve your problem!
Yep..full wipe.
Very strange ,,,when i put card from other phone my desire works(not rcdmix ,some MUI rom) but when i pull out from Desire and put Desires card its not work.

Goodmorning Sirs,
I have a strange problem...
My desire is happily runnig InsertCoin 1.0.8 with CM7 boot since months..
I am running also CWM recovery 3.0.2.8...
I'm giving a step by step description, in order to get you aware of possible upsets.
This morning I decide to install S2Ext program and strangely i found that
EXT partition was not recognized.. I reboot and have the same problem in S2E but everything was running fine... I was fearing that something gonna happen so I decide to have a nandroid backup to get clear that if something goes wrong I can restore all it back.
I successfully did a nandroid backup..
but..
after reboot I'm stuck at splash screen....
worried I went to recovery and I could not mount the sd card..
so no nandroid restore and nothing no sd no boot (A2SD+)..
Either usb mount is not working..
I verified that FAT32 partiotion on sdcard could be read from my laptop..
WHAT CAN I DO?
It's a recovery problem?
Sounds like the ext partition has become corrupted, so nandroid/cwm won't be able to write to it properly.
Stick the card in a PC reader, then run gparted on it - recreate/format the ext partition at the end (without formatting the FAT), then stick it back in phone.
Nandroid should then be able to restore backed up .img to it.
See my reply here :- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1176663
Easily fixed.

What do you want to know?
I tried twice to flash the new roms with all this partitions ... and twice got into trouble (tuck on logo , soft brick - like that).
How do i install it right ?
this is what i did:
1. S-OFF
2. Flash Bravo Stock HBOOT img
3. Create partitions
4. Full wipe
5. Flashed the LeeDroid 3.3.1 HD
And got stuck on the joker screen.
Twice !!!
Why is that?
Why did you flash stock hboot after you S-OFF? You was stock prior to S-OFF process lol.
Try to flash CM7 hboot and then flash leedroid data++ version.
If you will still get stuck on booting means you did something wrong with SD partitioning.
Sent with smoke signals.
Once again...
Always check md5 no matter what you flash. Just do it
...aes eht rednu
peed morf tneS
OK, so the SD partitions are Fat32 X (all the rest) GB and EXT3 1024MB ?
then i flash the CM7 hboot, after i flashed it, i need to restore the nandroid backup ?
then wipe everything and install ..?
Correct except restoring nandroid backup. Just flash from 0 after full wipe.
Sent with smoke signals.
OK it worked .
But i want to use other SD card, how to i switch between them ?
Do i need to install the ROM again from 0 ?

If you want to move it to another SD Card:
1. Make a Nandroid backup in recovery
2. Move Nandroid from SD to PC
3. Insert new card, copy the backup from PC to new SD
4. Go into recovery and restore the backup
Just remember to repartition new sd card, if you forget to create ext partition you end up with bootloop.
If you are not scared to work with linux:
1.) Connect your phone to your computer and unmout sd card
2.) Put new sd card in your computer
3.) Create the partitions on the new card, you have on the old. For example you have one fat and one ext. Create fat at first, then ext (both primary)
4.) Copy the content of the corresponding partitions from the old to the new sd card.
5.) Insert new card in your desire and you are done.

Thank you, everything works now.
The windows steps worked for me.

Would like to ask if these are the correct steps i need to make to have a functional Galaxy Gio
Now i have 2.3.3 KP5 stock from Vodafone Romania, without root or anything
PDA: S5660XXKPO

0. Root phone with update.zip package found in this forum ( not sure if this step is needed since i will install CM anyway )

2. Reset phone to factory defaults
3. Take SIM + SDcard out
4. Enter stock recovery mode
5. Flash signed_cwm-5.0.2.7-flashablezip-ext4+rfs.zip ( package made by phiexz , ty btw )
6. Insert SDcard and try to make a nandroid backup of what i have now on phone, remove SDcard then copy it on my PC
7. Flash new recovery signed_cwm-5.0.2.7-flashablezip-ext4only.zip ( not sure about this step, maybe i can stay with first one )
8. Flash from CWM recovery update-cm-7.2.0-RC1-b1-gio-KANG-signed.zip
9. Clear cache / dalvik from CWM recovery
10. Flash from CWM CM7.2-RC-1-patch-2.zip
11. Clear cache / dalvik from CWM recovery
12. Finnaly reboot phone and hope it works
13. Partition my card on PC ( A-Data 16 GB class 10 ) with ext4+fat32 (again not sure here how much from each )
14. Install link2sd and try to move apps, and then set up phone and enjoy

Use the CWM from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1397120
And the tutorial from there. Then do a factory reset before and after flashing CM7 ROM. You don't need to root.
For ext4 partition you need a card reader, don't even think to format from the phone.
BTW, you don't need to remove the SD Card or the SIM

Eh, no need for sim card out, otherwise good.
Edit: there is no need for ext partition in sdcard, i have my 8gb formatted to ntfs only. you can move apps to sd with titanium backup.
Thank u for info`s . Tried Cyanogen 7.1/7.2 Stock 2.3.4 2.3.5 but now after almost briking my phone i am back to stock romania vodafone rom and will stay this way until Cyanogen gets more mature on our phone ( for example call quality is MUCH better in stock then Cyanogen.) And also battery use is much higher in Cyanogen then stock
Btw, don`t rely on nandroid backup, u can`t restore it using CWM
