Hi all,
my Defy is bricked - had MIUI 1.8.5, messed around with busybox and now, everything is broken. Can't boot, can't start custom recovery, can't flash because of low battery. Yeah, I know there's still the MacGyver method.
The thing is, I can boot into stock recovery 3e. Now, that thing obviously needs a signed update.zip - is there SOMETHING officially signed which can be used?
Thanks for the help,
ahjot
Put the batt in external charger... n charge...
No theres no official update sort of thing...otherwise wait for bootloader to get unlocked

Hey I'm new here but this looks like the best place to be for help......... I recently used superoneclick to root my phone that went just fine. I installed GoAPK custom recovery and granted superuser permissions.......... that went fine too but then when i used defy recovery.apk to boot into recovery i realized that i had not turned of usb debugging mode and now i feel screwed........ I have infinite boot loop, however i can still access stock system recovery and i can access bootloader. but now battery wont charge and it just cycles through the M logo!! is there any way to fix this? if im not online just email me
.
Wipe data and cache partition from the stock recovery. Reflash SBF if still bootloops.

Well I flashed sbf once and wiped cache partition and factory reset and it still looped. I also have no way to charge battery from phone what about that? can it be fixed even though i booted to GoAPK custom recovery before usb debugging was turned off? can it be fixed or is it permanantly gone......???????

Go buy yourself a Universal Charger & Charge you battery for 7-8 hours, put it back in defy & your good to go again
instead of buying a external charger u can jus put ur battery in someone elses defy and charge it......i went to the store from which i bought mine and asked one of the employees who owned a defy to charge it for me....after that i flashed a official rom using rsdlite and my phone is working again ....good luck
Ok i have my battery charged. Now can anyone please give me an official sbf with instructions on how to properly flash and fix my phone to stop the boot loop please. you all are being very helpful thankyou. now i just need the necessary steps to flash and fix my phone.
can anyone help
I think you should follow the FAQ. First try to wipe data from stock recovery. (Volume down when you turn the phone on) If you done that as i read what sbf did you flased(exact wersion)? Wiped after flasing the sbf?
I don't remember what sbf i flashed. I do know that after i flashed the sbf I had used stock recovery to wipe cache partition and factory reset but I still have the boot loop. I need a new sbf to flash to it
Try to remember. because if you flashed gingerbread or eclair that can cause problems. If you flah a proper sbf for your device it will work.

There is a T-Mobile stock 2.2 SBF in the Developer forum. Use the search button it wont bite.

I dont remember which one it was but i know for sure that it was not a gingerbread or eclair sbf. so thats out of the problem. i installed custom clockwork GoAPK and hit boot into recovery but my phone had usb debugging on and then it went to boot loop. so do you have a proper sbf i can use. that way i can load the custom clockwork without usb debugging on and flash custom rom on it?
Hey guys i fixed my phone found a good sbf. how do i load custom clockworkmod and how do i flash custom rom.

i prefer the 2ndinit method from here (step 2):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065798
since your phone is already rooted you can start from enable usb debugging but skip the superoneclick and reboot bit and go straight to installing 2ndinit, and so on.
have fun
edit: sorry, you should start from copying your preferred rom and gapps to the sd card first.
i am using 2nd init. works just fine
ok cause when i use the system recovery method i get boot looped. and rom manager wont work unless i manually install a custom clockworkmod

Hi Guys,
I am not sure if this exists on the forums but I am unable to find a solution.
I am trying to boot into my CWM. When I reboot and hit the power and volume up button it takes me to the Motorola flash tool. If I reboot with the power button and volume down it takes me to system recovery. I somehow got it into CWM but have no idea what I pressed.
Any ideas?
Thanks

I have it installed. I managed to install it and get into it previously with 2nd init. but without 2nd init I am battling.
I have tried volume down. that is when I get the "android system recovery utility" and not CWM
hey boswald did u solve ur problem ? and how please? coz i think im having the same problem once i install 2ndInit it says success but i never get into CWM and my phone keep rebooting on Motorola Logo and i have to flash again !.
Hey,
I landed up re-flashing. I then installed the new bootmenu and CWM (5). I then installed Sndinit and managed to get into the custom recovery where I installed CM9 and the google apps.
When I now hit the reboot in CM9 I have the option to go into recovery from there.
I did read somewhere though that when the little light goes blue to hit the down arrow and that is suppose to take you into the custom recovery. That worked for me afterwards but not sure if it was because I re-flashed and installed again.
Hope that helps.
How did you install a new bootmenu please ???
Monzer, when you install bootmenu are you installing the .apk and then opening the app and then clicking to install 2nd init? This is the right procedure! after you do this reboot your phone and watch for blue led to flash during boot, hit volume down once it flashes blue.
What 2nd init version are you installing? here is the latest http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=792601&d=1322064151
Are you trying to flash CM7?
There is a very old version of CWM that should be suitable if all else fails you. It should work just fine to flash CM7 but not so sure about CM9. However if you want to flash CM9 You could use this old version of CWM to flash CM7 which will in turn install a new version of 2nd init which is definitely suitable for flashing CM9. This old CWM "might" work for flashing CM9 but I dunno if I would try or not! Download in my attachment below!
You MUST enable USB debugging to install.
copy the apk to your sdcard and use a file manager to install it then open the app in your app drawer and choose to install the custom recovery (with USB dubugging ON)
THIS STEP IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!
AFTER INSTALLING THE CUSTOM RECOVERY DISABLE USB DEBUGGING.
You enter CWM by again opening the app and choosing reboot to recovery (with USB debuggind OFF)
thanks alot zyxwvut for replaying i really appreciate it , well im trying to install MS2Ginger , and the bootmenu i'v downloaded there was no .apk file in it ;s , there is META-INF and System folders in it , ok i'v downloaded the custom recovery u gave me should this do the work ?? i thought i can only flash CM7 and MS2Ginger only using 2ndInit !! so now i can flash MS2Ginger using custom recovery instead of using 2ndInit right ???
The old cwm I provided will not work for ms2ginger 2.1 because it doesn't give you options to restore devtree etc. You should install 2nd init provided by walter79 on the ms2ginger page for this. I don't quite understand why 2nd unit wont install for you. I've never had a problem. The old cwm I provided should be used only to install cm7
EDIT: the old cwm should work just fine to install ms2ginger 2.0 lite but not ms2ginger 2.1
Btw the old cwm backup directory is: apkrev/backup
Instead of: clockworkmod/backup
Honestly try the link for 2nd init I provided in my post I just can't imagine why it wont work. Seems crazy.

I really dont know whats wrong with 2ndInit i did install it once long time ago , could it be coz i fully flashed to 2.3.4 and i downgraded ? when i install 2ndInit it says success but i still can read that recovery 2ndinit NOT currntly installed the led is green tho but once i reboot , it keeps rebooting over and over and the only way to fix it is going thro the long downgrading method that starting from flashing the unique chinese eclair ...ect and i did all 2ndint versions not sure what els to do ! is there any other way to flash MS2Ginger or maybe other way to install 2ndint not by WIFI , i just dont understand why they use internet connection to dl it -_- thanks for your time btw .
You never even get a blue light when rebooting? I don't know if the downgrade from 2.3.4 is your issue or not, maybe. The downgrade is a dirty method and could cause problems maybe but idk because I never flashed 2.3.4 I can ask around the Dev section for you
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
nope never get a blue light , will yo do that ? it would be a life saver dude
Edit : one more thing is 2ndInit installed once it say success and the led turn into green regardless that it wrote its not currently installed , and how to install 2ndinit using url it might work who knows, a desperate man would try anything

None of the methods you are using can actually get you into cwm. The correct method is:
1. Switch off the phone. After the phone is completely powered down:
2. Long press the power button.
3. Wait for the blue led light to appear.
4. When it appears, immediately press Vol. Down button.
5. Now you'll find yourself in cwm bootmenu.
Note : Pressing power and Vol. Down button on powering up will only take you to the stock recovery.

So i was using slyking241 rom for a wile but then i decided to go back to stock rom i followed this:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1011527 tutorial step by step to reset my phone but when it starts updating it says unpacking and then updating gives na error i tried it multiple time but no luck then i though that i should go back to the 2.3.7 sly rom but it refused to boot up just get the cwm boot screen and endless reboots so i wiped data , cache, dalvik, battery stats but it still wont boot i reflashed the rom still doesnt boot tried 2.2 rom still doesn't boot..(cant past the sand clock icon) the recovery works fine i thought of istalling new recovery but i cant get into bootloader please help.
Thank You
bump
The U8120 hasn't a real bootloader.
You hould flash the phone again!
And I mean fullflash (root the phone, install AmonRA...)
Just like you want to root it.
In my Thread (just click U8120 in signature) you can download the stock rom!
P.S.on't change the recovery after rooting!
Eclair works only with AmonRA
!FORMAT YOUR SDCARD BEFORE TRYING THIS!
how should i reinstall it if it doesnt boot up?

Okay, for some reason, my Razar M wont boot past the droid eye boot screen. So I was rooted and on the Official JB 4.1. Now what I'd like to do is go back to ICS and allow my phone to update to JB OTA. I'm new to the M so I dont know a whole lot about it, or what RDSlite is, or whether or not I need JB fastboot files, or ICS fastboot files. Also, I need a stock ICS rom for RSDlite, but cant find a unaltered one to save my life. I don't or can't find any of the fastboot files either. I thought there would have been a sticky with all the fastboot files somewhere around here, along with several versions of RSDlite and a couple copies of SafeStrap recovery. But I didn't see anything like that. If someone would be kind enough to post a link to JB and ICS fastboot files, or which ever fastboot files I will need, and post a link to a unaltered ICS rom I can use in RSDlite, I very much appreciate it... This is my company phone and if I cant fix this asap, my boss is gonna have my job for lunch, lol... TIA
EDIT; Oh, and I have the retail version. Also, what does SBF mean? And how do you flash with it?
EDIT 2: Okay, I've found RSDlite 6.1.4 (I think) and I've found the stock 4.0.4 ICS .xml But does this .xml file have the fastboot files I need for RSDlite?
EDIT3: Wow, it's either really dead on this M forum, or everyone's in bed for the night? I need to know how to use RSDlite?
Re: In need of fastboot files for ICS!!
U plug ur phone in and as long as u have Motorola usb drivers installed rsdlite should detect ur phone.
There are plenty of guides if u google or on XDA

Re: In need of fastboot files for ICS!!
That file should be what you need. You also need the Motorola device driver.
Once you have both, reboot the phone in recovery, choose fast boot, connect to the computer, and flash the file.
When done, reboot recovery again, clear cache and factory reset and reboot. I believe that is all.
When you take the JB OTA update, would you mind doing me (and the community) a HUGE favor? Reboot into recovery BEFORE rerooting to see if the root checker has reverted to 'qe 0/0'. Trying to verify that restoring to ICS and taking the OTA resets the counter.
Best of luck!

No problem bro. When I use RSDlite, I will check on that. But it seems I have fixed my issue. Luckily for me, when I first installed SafeStrap recovery I made a backup, so I just restored my system and data and my phone booted fine after that. Thanks for your guys help.

I have a Galaxy S2 with a broken USB port that has only stock recovery but needs a ROM [if I do recovery boot I see TMobile 4G boot logo now, but regular boot is Samsung Logo and then black screen]. Since I had them send me my replacement battery charging is not a problem and I have a micro SD Card so it's about only way with a busted USB port to get this thing working before I get slammed and can't return it :-o . I flashed the Zedomax unroot and when it was done it rebooted the device and nothing. BUT it did replace the recovery on me [NICE].
So now I find myself between a rock and a hard place since the usb port is busted I got my replacement and can't send it back until I find a ROM zip I can flash with the stock recovery that will get it to boot the phone so I can format the internal SD and have it with a stock ROM.
If anyone can get me an official update.zip I can put on my external SDCard to get it in the phone and get the stock recovery to recognize and flash it; I would be GREATLY in your debt!!

Get the usb port fixed for 25 bucks. I just did! Just borrow a spare phone for a couple days. I sent it to him and it was on the way back the same day he received it.

Don't have time has to be back to them in 6 days. Just need a rom zip that is compatible with the stock recovery and I can throw it on the external SD. There has got to be a zip around somewhere I can use to flash with the stock recovery and get any version of Android I don't care what version just need it to boot. I did have 4.1.2 on it before, but it could be Gingerbread or ICS I am not picky.
Stock recovery won't flash a ROM, no matter how u name it or anything, the stock recovery doesn't have the capabilities, but if ur worried about sending it back to them rooted or whatever don't, my buddy works for T-Mobile tech devision and says when they receive a phone back like that 90% of the time they never turn it on even, all the do is connect to their system and wipe/flash new stock IMG, or use it for parts for someone else's refurbished phone

Yeah was going to be my last resort. I mean system , data and caches have been formatted, only SDCard [internal] remains, even if they boot to recovery it is their recovery. I don't get how we dont have compatible flash zips. I mean the recovery has gone from only accepting update.zip named files when I got this phone when it first hit, and now it gives you the option of browsing directories and list any zip to try [I am only refering to STOCK ROM flashing via stock recovery not trying to get custom work to flash via a stock recovery here]
There has got to be a way to come up with a stock recovery capable flash zip. Otherwise programmers would not waste the time to include the feature to flash a zip from it if ii were actually fully incapable of doing so.
Half right, the stock recovery does give u the option to try and flash zips of any named file but the stock recovery doesn't have the binaries capable of reading flash scripts, its is possible but u would need to mod the actual recovery itself not just the rom, as the recovery needs to be able to process the flashing script, so in reality that's why it hasn't been done, because in the end ud end up with a custom recovery....
