[Q] Unable to get into Stock Bootloader - Defy General

Hi,
I try to install Cyagenmod 7 RC0 but fail to get into the stock Bootloader.
Everytime i try to boot into it, i get a attention sign with a droid besides it.
Is this wanted or is my bootloader damaged?
Version: 2.2.2 with Blur
Root: Yes

Recovery and bootloader are two different things:
To get to stock recovery: power up your phone while holding the power and volume down buttons, when the android + exclamation mark appears press volume up+down at the same time
Bootloader (needed to flash an sbf): power up your phone by holding the power and volume up button for about 5 seconds

Ah thank you.
In the How-to i was using, only pressing power + volume down was mentioned.

[Q] Defy Boot Loop after flashing, cannot go to recovery anymore

So I used ROM Manger to go to recovery, then wiped. then install update.zip, which was cynanogen 7. then it installed only for some 20 secs. then my phone now keeps on boot looping only until motorola logo.
I removed battery, pressed volume down and power, then the phone went to triangle with exclamation mark and android, then here is the problem, i tried to press volume up and volume down: 1) at once quickly, 2) together hold 3) one at time, but no luck, a nothing happened, still stuck with the triangle.
looking for your advises, thanks in advance.
for got to mention, when i try "volume up + power" it goes boot load and as i have mention above when i press "volume down + power" it goes to triagle with android,
so im sure the three buttons are working.
is there a special speed on pressing the volume up and volume down button?
thanks.
i dont think theres a speed/time for pressing the buttons, so thats not the problem. do you have clockworkmod or any custom recovery on your phone, or just the stock?
Sent from my superfast CM7 Defy.
it is stock rom 2.1, but i have it rooted and installed ROM Manger and the Clockwork Mod for Defy installed. On the clockwork i chose "normal boot"
what other boot options do you have?
Sent from my superfast CM7 Defy.
before there I had three options, 1) Recevery boot 2) Normal Boot 3) off to boot
but now i cannot change this anymore, as the phone is stuck in the motoral log or that triangle thing...

If you are on 2.1, to access the stock boot menu you press the bottom right corner of the screen. From 2.2 up they changed it to pressing volume up/down at the same time (basically, pressing in the middle of the volume button).

yea, it because he did the wrong way. I have done it several times, I'm on miui right now with 2nd init installed, and when I reboot to stock recovery, I got green robot with triangle like him, BUT (still in that mode) I press the volume up and down at the same time (it's like pressing in the middle of volume button between up and down) for a few second. Then you will enter stock recovery. Try it
"1) at once quickly, 2) together hold" he tried everything, it's in the first post!
Thq...
its WORKs..

Exactly, press the screen!
awsome yeah it helped, first volume down and power until u see the droid and exclamation mark and then both volume down and up together and u enter recovery.
no one could ever explain this better. thanks!

[Q] Volume Down + Power Goes to Odin Mode

I have rooted my GNex and flashed ARHD + Trinity kernel with using volume down + power entering into fastboot mode.
After my second time reflashed ARHD, the volume down + power returns me into Odin mode. Though I can back to fastboot by using volume down & down + power, is there any way to reclaim the pressing of volume down + power into fastboot mode?
Many thanks

The bootloader version is PRIMELC03.
This is the GNex newly brought for my friend. It could enter into bootloader by pressing volume down + power before I reflashed a custom rom. My own GNex can enter bootloader with volume down + power. Wired

Impossible. You cannot boot into the bootloader by volume down and power -- that is download/odin mode. Bootloader is volume up and volume down and power. If your device is booting into the bootloader with only volume down and power, that means your volume up key is stuck.
Thanks and perhaps I have mixed up with HTC One X or use extended power menu to enter bootloader for too long. Anyway, use volume up & down + power to enter bootloader now.
Silly me.

[Q] Soft-bricked phone after installing custom kernel

Hi Everyone! I'm pretty new to Android stuff in general, and it looks like I soft-bricked my phone while trying to install a custom kernel.
Currently, my phone is running the latest beta of PA (pa_m8-4.6-BETA1-20140902).
I was trying to install custom kernel franco.kernel. Quick googling told me this is possible and the process was to boot into recovery (I'm using TWRP), make a backup, clear cache and dalvik cache, reboot into bootloader and then use fastboot to flash the new boot.img. Was this process correct, or was I already destined for failure?
After doing that whole process, the phone no longer boots properly. When powering on the phone, I see the initial HTC screen popup, and then the screen goes black. This stays this way forever unless I hold power + vol up, which will just restart the phone and the same thing happens. No other keys or key combinations do anything. Holding power or power + vol down does nothing. Holding power + both volume is the same as holding power + vol up. I have also tried holding the power button while holding the phone under a bright light; this has had no effect.
Unfortunately, I can't take a video of this behavior, however it appears this youtube video shows the same behavior:
CPCVecKSPAA (sorry can't post links because I'm new)
The only differences between my behavior and the youtube video are:
1. I am using AT&T instead of international version
2. At the initial screen, I see the red warning text.
Currently, my plan is to wait for the battery to die and then plug it in and try to boot into recovery with power + vol down. Does anyone know anything else worth trying?
Thanks !
Just refresh the rom... That will restore the PA kernel.
I was able to get my phone into bootloader via the following:
1. Plug phone into PC.
2. Press power + vol up + vol down.
3. As soon as charge LED turns off, release vol up.
Once I was in bootloader, I got my phone working by going into recovery and then restoring my backup.

I was flashing a new rom yesterday. But during flashing, the recovery 'hang'ed. I pressed the power button for a few seconds, it restarts to the htc quietly brilliant screen. Now I can't access bootloader or recovery using Power + Vol buttons. Please help

Turn off the phone completely press power button for about 10-15 sec then try with 1. volume down and then press power button no way to not go in bootloader. The hangs on the recovery can't broke your phone.

Still can't go to bootloader. I tried different ways. Press the power button then the vol down button. Press them at the same time. Vol down first then power button. Still stuck on the same screen even after I pressed it for minutes

After half an hour, now I can go into bootloader! What to do next ?
Edit: I flashed a new recovery. Flashed a new rom. Now all is back to normal. Thanks for your help.:good:
I was excited to wait a new ROM since in a couple of days ago, when I turn on my phone the HTC white screen is stuck when I attempted to install the new ROM (4.2.2). Even pressing the power button, volume buttons and bottom slides won't work.
Is there a chance to repair my phone?

Help with brick?

Hi I was running the Cyanogen Mod Nightly for my phone, and hadn't updated it for about a week. When I went in to my settings to update it, I downloaded the latest one and when it was done it prompted me to start it, so I did. It got to about 2%, and after that it's been looping in boot. The screen flashes on and off instantly every 5 seconds. Power + Volume Up works, it shows the HTC screen and says it's going into recovery, but then it just loops in boot again.
Is there any fix/hope for my phone?
Press power + vol up, and as soon as the screen goes black, press and hold power + vol down. You will boot into the bootloader. from here you can flash an RUU to go back to stock

So I tried doing this, but nothing happened.
I did however, fix my problem, by holding down Power + Volume Up until it showed the initial "Booting into recovery" screen (which was failing), but kept holding Power + Volume Up until the Battery Charging screen showed up (I had it plugged into my PC). Once I let go, it rebooted the phone normally, and started up Cyanogenmod. Now the phone works, so I am going to back up my data, and switch to a non-nightlies version (or just never update).
Thank you!
Next time if you are in a bootloop, just holding vol down during the next restart cycle will get you to bootloader.
If the buttom combo (Power+vol up to force a restart, then just hold vol down to go to bootloader) doesn't work, its virtually always due to getting the timing wrong (either not pressing vol down soon enough, or letting go too early). And the fact it was looping makes the timing tricky. But holding vol down during a bootloop (restart) will always get you to bootloader.

I already tried that, it would automatically go back into a bootloop. And I tried your second option, which also didnt work. The only way I personally was able to fix it was having it plugged in, holding Volume Up + Power through the bootloader screen (which would crash) until the battery icon with the red disclaimer text showed up. Then it would reboot without going to bootloader (Pretty sure the Cyanogenmod tried to get it to this and failed).
Still cant get it to update without crashing so im just going to flash a new rom.
