So I used ROM Manger to go to recovery, then wiped. then install update.zip, which was cynanogen 7. then it installed only for some 20 secs. then my phone now keeps on boot looping only until motorola logo.
I removed battery, pressed volume down and power, then the phone went to triangle with exclamation mark and android, then here is the problem, i tried to press volume up and volume down: 1) at once quickly, 2) together hold 3) one at time, but no luck, a nothing happened, still stuck with the triangle.
looking for your advises, thanks in advance.
for got to mention, when i try "volume up + power" it goes boot load and as i have mention above when i press "volume down + power" it goes to triagle with android,
so im sure the three buttons are working.
is there a special speed on pressing the volume up and volume down button?
thanks.
i dont think theres a speed/time for pressing the buttons, so thats not the problem. do you have clockworkmod or any custom recovery on your phone, or just the stock?
Sent from my superfast CM7 Defy.
it is stock rom 2.1, but i have it rooted and installed ROM Manger and the Clockwork Mod for Defy installed. On the clockwork i chose "normal boot"
what other boot options do you have?
Sent from my superfast CM7 Defy.
before there I had three options, 1) Recevery boot 2) Normal Boot 3) off to boot
but now i cannot change this anymore, as the phone is stuck in the motoral log or that triangle thing...

If you are on 2.1, to access the stock boot menu you press the bottom right corner of the screen. From 2.2 up they changed it to pressing volume up/down at the same time (basically, pressing in the middle of the volume button).

yea, it because he did the wrong way. I have done it several times, I'm on miui right now with 2nd init installed, and when I reboot to stock recovery, I got green robot with triangle like him, BUT (still in that mode) I press the volume up and down at the same time (it's like pressing in the middle of volume button between up and down) for a few second. Then you will enter stock recovery. Try it
"1) at once quickly, 2) together hold" he tried everything, it's in the first post!
Thq...
its WORKs..

Exactly, press the screen!

no one could ever explain this better. thanks!

I had several android phones before
all of them had standard recovery which look like this one:
http://www.omappedia.org/images/b/b3/2011-03-22_19-27-25_273-II.jpg
but when I try to enter recovery mode with the GN I only get android lying (link in operation) with red triangle and exclamation mark.
there is no wipe or other options to choose from.
also the only thing I can do in this state is to pull out the battery.
SO...
where is the stock recovery?

It's right before you. You just need to hit a key combo to get past the warning screen. Perhaps the same one you used to get to the recovery.
if you just leave it, it will reboot by itself eventually

There is no combination to enter recovery directly.
I entered fastboot mode
and selected recovery.

I'd go ahead and try either volume down / volume up / or both at the same time to see if u get into the stock recovery once your at the exclamation screen

Yeah, that is pretty much what I meant by my post. there is only 3 keys.
so it's either:
up vol + power
down vol + power
up and down vol + power
I think it is the last one, since I think that is what takes you to fastboot. I don't have my Gnex just yet. so can't check.
I just tried again all the combination
still nothing
Press the middle of the volume rocker after you are in the fastboot menu and the top selection will scroll the boot options including recovery. Hit power when the desired option is displayed.
Thats what I did to get to the red triangle
I found out what the next combo is
first hold power then add volume up
Thank you
Thanks guys
Spent ages messing found ODIN mode and others then one search and up pops the ansa.
Wow lots of weird answers in this thread.....
In recovery, if you see the android with the exclamation point, press the power key and while holding it press volume up. This will reveal the recovery UI.

I am having a hard time booting into CWM, what is the right key combination? If I hold volume down and power, the Samsung sign comes on, and then the screen goes black and the phone vibrates every few seconds. I'm able to get into CWM just fine in ROM manager reboot and also with Juggernauts reboot, but it could become necessary to do it manually at some point. Thanks.
CWM boot
Need to hold volume up &down plus power keys when U see Samsung sing let power go holding up&down key till U see CWM
Working perfect, thank you!
Does anyone know the hard button press to get into TWRP, I used to do vol up/down for cmw but that no longer works, not sure if there is a different way to get into recovery in case of a bad flash. I went on their website with no luck and I know many people use this now.
Thanks Rob
The combo is vol up + home. Reboot phone, hold those two until you see the blue text in the upper left corner, then release. Holding the buttons until recovery is booted is unnecessary.

So I downloaded the Stock Recovery from Mr Hofs Collection of Stock Recovery thread in General Section.
I flashed stock recovery, all went well. I attach picture of command prompt to show.
After I flashed it though and went to recovery it just gave me a black screen with a little phone in the middle, in the middle of the little phone was a red triangle with an upside exclamation mark. It was stuck like that for the better part of half an hour(pressed volume down with power, held power alone for minutes on end) nothing. No writing on it nothing.
Luckly as I was busy starting this thread now it just rebooted on its own and went back into the system. Is it totally fixed now or will it give me problems when I go into recovery? Should I go into recovery again?
How do I check if stock recovery is fine now or if there are any problems? I don't want it to hang and/or brick now.
Please if I made a mistake somewhere, tell me what I did wrong for future reference, I don't think I did anything wrong with commands
You can see at bottom of command prompt to, I even tried fastboot devices / adb devices to see if it picks anything up because I get the sound the computer makes when it's connected to USB so the computer at least picked up something.
Should I sell the phone now? lol
Boot again into recovery using the method you described. Once you see the android with red triangle image press and hold the volume up key and then press the power button while keeping the up button pressed. You'll enter the stock recovery.
This is the normal way of booting into stock recovery. You are fine!

I tried going back into recovery, got to the screen with the triangle and and pressed volume up and power button like you said. Instead of then taking me into stock recovery, it just vibrates and then reboots the phone.

hmm...i am running TWRP on GPE so i am not able to test this directly. Let's try one more time, but this time follow these steps:
- go back to recovery and wait for the red triangle screen
- wait for 5 - 10 seconds (don't think this is necessary, but try it anyways)
- this time press both volume up and down keys, and while holding them down press the power button
hopefully this will work. Otherwise i can try on a friends phone in the morning and give you the right combo.

Same thing, just vibrates and then reboots
What are you hoping for? You have stock recovery installed now. You seem to have discovered why there are custom ones.

With no recovery options, is that right though? It doesn't show me anything written on the screen and when I press "up volume and power" this should take you to some options, it gives nothing, it just reboots.
Not right then? Or will it still work fine just as it is now for OTAs?
P.S I have tried all methods given by umsheikh, I downloaded quickboot to try it, I did an adb reboot recovery to see if I can go through there, did it manually, shut off, wait a bit, turn back on go to recovery press power, wait 10secs press up and power, nothing, all of them just reboots the phone. It's bugging me lol
If you say it's right though and there is no need for me to actually see the options that it gives and I'll still receive my OTAs etc then fine, I'll leave it then, but I don't think it's right, is it?
Getting into the options is fiddly, but it sounds right. Try fastboot erase cache

hold down home, volume up and power button, screen will go off, then come back on with buttons flashing then screen will go off again, then when it comes back on press all three buttons again but dont hold them.
Or another alternative would be pressing both up volume button and power button at the same time up until the first LG logo appears. After which release both buttons. The screen will darken and butons will light up. Another indication you have successfully invoked the powers of cwm would be when you se the "Secure boot error" message at the top part when you see the lg logo.
