Was playing around with the beta 2 mango, when the firmware update for my HD7 was made available. (note after mango upgrade never could sideload apps and windows device manager stopped working but the phone remained unlock). So I downgraded everything: Phone, Zune and the WP7 SDK back to the way I had it before mango. But now I can't sideload a thing, the Chevron tool doesn't even communicate with my phone anymore. I thank it is the version of .net I have installed. The SDK work but the WDM doesn't then when I update the .net so that the WDM can work the SDK stops working. HELP

Might be Zune. Try uninstalling Zune and reinstall.
Ok, thanks for the suggestion

Locking... Was it all Zune?
I was wondering, since Chevron was able to work only with Zune, and if you wish to install
a new update on your device, you must update the Zune first.
Is there a possibility that Zune is the one that makes all the problems?
Maybe they altered the ports that Zune uses to comunicate with WP7 device,
and since the chevron used HTTPS, they're not compatible any more,
and therefore, they can not comunicate.
I know it sounds like conspiracy theory, but i was checking protocols and have found some inconsistencies...
Maybe im wrong...
Your opinions?
NoDo doesn't require an extra Zune update, so no.

Unfortunately, pre-Nodo aksed for Zune to update...
At least it asked me to update it...
That's where my doubts come from
for me, when i couldn't get wp7 unlocked i noticed that either zune or windows was changing the host file just as chevron tried to connect... no matter what i did ie changed values , edit user rights, even tried system with read only rights ,... something kept changing the host file to "my ip.windowsdevelopers.com" now i use a win7 instalation in a virtual drive with no zune or windows updates at all. seems to work for me..
Interesting solution...
I have tried installing Zune on another computer and tried to run Chevron,
but no luck... All I'm getting is error, that Chev. can't make connection with device.
Current state of OS: Build 7008 (That's pre-Nodo right?)
Cheers!
yep 7008 is pre nodo... i unlocked with chevron with that os. used vmware workstation. clean install of win7 (no updates except windows phone 7 usb drivers) then zune. unlocked first time.
you may have to re set your phone?
Well i did hard reset my phone for a couple of times, but had no luck...
I shall wait now... I will probably try some more on other computers, but
if I don't succeed, I will play by MS rules and do the NoDo.
After that, the waiting for a jailbrake shall be waited upon
P.S. A question, bit off topic.
Is there any way to insert custom ringtone to a non-Cheved device?
I can't access My Ringtones folder via Windows Explorer, even though
i changed registry on my computer to be able to access the phone as
a regular usb device...
Tnx up front, for any info provided
not really.... even if you did put them in your music folder zune on your phone doesn't seem to read the id3 tags and calls them unknown without names.
try..... fresh install win7 then connect phone aand get drivers... then zune... then chevron,
Yep, that's the problem with ringtones, or music at all...
I will try that with Win7, because i curently have no other options
Anyway, many thanks for your help!

Well, first, thanks go out for Microsoft for releasing a support tool for Windows Phone yesterday. Inside that tool, were unreal hidden gems.
Basically they’ve created a managed wrapper over the whole update process for us, rather nice of them.
So I flashed my HTC Mozart back to RTM (7004) via a ROM update HTC ship and whipped up a little application to flash pre-NoDo (7008), NoDo (7355), NoDo update 1 (7389) & NoDo update 2 (7390) all in a single process. No I don’t care which carrier you are on, which phone you have, it’ll just update your phone accordingly.
We really have to commend Microsoft here for being able to split up the OS updates into differential packs, which saves users downloading 200+ MB updates, unlike the IFruit updates.
All you need to do is run the ChevronWP7.Updater.exe console app and follow the prompts.
Make sure you select the RIGHT language for your device. To double check what your default language is, go to Settings > Keyboard and if your selected language is displayed in the Console app, you’re good to select it. If it isn’t in the list, DON’T flash it just yet.
Now, download the following files.
x86 Operating System (32 bit)
Windows Phone Support Tools
http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/5/4/15427EAF-AD42-4E4A-8179-9A3C5483E366/WPSupportTool-x86.msi
ChevronWP7.Updater

x64 Operating System (64 bit)
Windows Phone Support Tools
http://download.microsoft.com/downl...E4A-8179-9A3C5483E366/WPSupportTool-amd64.msi
ChevronWP7.Updater
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=40MA6F02
Once you’ve installed the support tools and extracted the ChevronWP7.Updater.zip to the desktop, plug your phone in and wait 30 seconds.
Now start ChevronWP7.Updater.exe (this should kill Zune) and follow the prompts.
If you’re updating from Version 7004, you need to run the Updater TWICE, this needs the preUpdate before we can flash NoDo.
Again, if your language isn’t in the Chevron updater, DON’T attempt to update your phone. Some of the applications won’t work otherwise.
This “might” work for HD2 owners, haven’t tried it out just yet. If it does, report below and tell me .
There is NO revert process, again, flash at your own risk.

If I do so like you suggest with my HD2 (WP 7.0.7004.0), he still asks to update the february update..
And I did it twice like suggested...
Thanks anyway!
It doesn't work for me but I still have to install the February update. Does anyone know if there is already a new rom with this update included?
Thx!
Works for me, Samsung Focus AT+T and had to run it twice to get both updates.
Source
Where does this method pull the updates from? Is it the same update being tested by AT&T for the Focus?
Didn't work for me...tried 4 times and kept getting some error, then got booted from the program...not sure what the deal is. Samsung Focus, AT&T
Sent from my SGH-i917 using Board Express
Also not working for me- Samsung Focus on AT&T. Program runs, reboots phone, seems to update, but on examination I'm still at 7004.
Sadly I should've resisted. I did this on my AT&T Samsung Focus, everything is great except I have no marketplace and no Zune functionality..

Anyone has got updated Links or a mirror?

Ok, I installed the Debrander xap util and it debranded to 00-88. I then ran Zune and it showed update available. It upgrade phone to 7008 from 7004. But even after that running chevron update still fails.
Maybe it was pulled from the site due to unforeseen problems.
Btw, don't reinstall debrander over your original debrander as it loses the original carrier details no I cannot rebrand to at&t unless I do a reg hack *I think*

XAP's are a special zip file that contains the files for install. Also, WP7 doesn't allow native code. Apps have to be Silverlight or XNA coded dll's & are run through taskhost.exe. The only EXE's allowed are the MS built in EXE's. Only native code allowed is from OEM's/Carriers & those are DLL's, not EXE's.
thanks for your reply.Guess i need to use my tytn 2 back for the map.
out of topic. r u using hd7 with mango 7712? I thought of updating to 7712 with my unlock chevron with provxml-deploy0.0.1,custclear provxml, unlockme.cer on my 7392.My worries is that if i update officially from zune to 7712 i might not get to sideload all the xap file.1 question, does zune do any backup b4 it updates from 7004 to 7008 from 7008 to 7392 from 7392 to7712.

I have used Mango on my HD7 & unlocked via custclear as well as official developers unlock. I have a dreamspark account. I went back to NoDo though because MS blocked INTEROPSERVICES which is needed for homebrew register editors/file explorers.

thanks for reply. Guess i'll wait for the final mango released.
I've tried to register (to be able to deploy some apps) my friend's Dell Venue Pro with my computer.
The developer tool (Microsoft SDK 7.0) tells me it's unable to connect to the developer server.
I'm running WIN XP SP3 and I think SDK 7.0 is the newest SDK version you can have with the OS of my computer.
I succeeded to register my Dell Venue Pro and one of my friend's Dell Venue Pro in the beginning of this year and I still have one phone to registered (since the limit is 3 phones).
I haven't altered any of my development settings and when I connect my DVP to the developer tool, it says my phone is already registered.
But I cannot register my friend's phone. So my question is: has Microsoft stopped supporting SDK 7.0? I didn't find any information about it even though I tried to do some google search. So if the support for SDK 7.0 has stopped, how do I register phones (in the future) with my WIN XP SP3 if I cannot install newer version to my computer???
Any help is highly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance!

try right-clicking on the ruu.exe and go to properties, then on the Compatibility tab check the box to run in compatibility mode and try Win 7. I'd still run it as administrator though.
I've not actually restored my 10, but i did fire up the ruu once to make sure it downloaded properly and got the main screen. i'm on win10-1511 still

This is also common when you have an incomplete download. I suggest you re-download the file and try again.
I had the very same problem. The download was good. As soon as I installed the vcredist's the same download worked just fine.

Your question kept coming up as I searched for why RUUs won't run in Windows 10 64 bit.
Here's a link to the solution that fixed the issue for me:

Thanks to onthezone for the post.
I had to install all x86 and x64 vcredist files from Microsoft before it worked for me. Tip: save the vcredist_##.exe files in folders based on the version they target (i.e. 2005, 2008, 2010, 2012) since all the file names are the same. I ignored the link to GPE full conversion back to sense roms since that didn't apply to me.
Good luck!
Here's the content in case the link ever goes down:

Alright after tons of research and trial and error, I believe I found a fix to the installer crashing after accepting t&c. First make sure you have htc sync manager installed. Then install ALL of the c++ programs from here:
Download Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2012 Update 4 from Official Microsoft Download Center
Download Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) from Official Microsoft Download Center
Download Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64) from Official Microsoft Download Center
Download Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) from Official Microsoft Download Center
Download Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64) from Official Microsoft Download Center
Download Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) from Official Microsoft Download Center
Download Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64) from Official Microsoft Download Center
Then rerun the ruu file with admin and should work.
If your coming from GPE full conversion you will get a error 156 and have to convert back via this guide:
GPE full conversion back to sense roms
Then rerun the ruu file with admin again and should work.

You do not even need all of the vcredist packages, just one... I cannot remember which one however, I believe it was the 2008 x86 or the 2010 x86 one
