XAP's are a special zip file that contains the files for install. Also, WP7 doesn't allow native code. Apps have to be Silverlight or XNA coded dll's & are run through taskhost.exe. The only EXE's allowed are the MS built in EXE's. Only native code allowed is from OEM's/Carriers & those are DLL's, not EXE's.

thanks for your reply.Guess i need to use my tytn 2 back for the map.

out of topic. r u using hd7 with mango 7712? I thought of updating to 7712 with my unlock chevron with provxml-deploy0.0.1,custclear provxml, unlockme.cer on my 7392.My worries is that if i update officially from zune to 7712 i might not get to sideload all the xap file.1 question, does zune do any backup b4 it updates from 7004 to 7008 from 7008 to 7392 from 7392 to7712.

I have used Mango on my HD7 & unlocked via custclear as well as official developers unlock. I have a dreamspark account. I went back to NoDo though because MS blocked INTEROPSERVICES which is needed for homebrew register editors/file explorers.

NODO jailbreaking,100% sure。

I'M A CHINESE.I hope my experience can help all WP7 fans. If this thread help you,It's my pleasure.
detail steps:
1. MAKE sure your phone has a 7004 or 7008 rom, than used chevronWP7.cer and chevronWP7.EXE to unlock your WP7. (this is step you can find in this forum)
2. After UNLOCK! prevent relocked. (belows is the easy way to edit your registry)
for HTC download xap in http://dl.dbank.com/c0u5q3xic8 and sideload it to your phone and run it ,press the green button.
for Samsung devices, see post #17 in this thread.
3. Update to NoDo via zune and your device still in unlocked state! (for some people cannot get nodo from zune, see below method,100% successful rate.)
methods to get zune nodo. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1012189 !!!!
Download USAIP.pbk open it and connect to EUROIP PPTP Hungary with
USERNAME: demo
PASSWORD: demo
Connect your phone to the PC
Disable WIFI in your phone but be sure not to open FLIGHT MODE
OPEN "Use cellular data connection to check for updates" in SETTINGS-UPDATE, AND KEEP YOUR PHONE IN THIS SCREEN
Start Zune and keep it running all the time
Manually search for an update within Zune (setting-phone-update)
After a few seconds (about 20-25 seconds for me) disable "Use cellular data connection to check for updates on your phone" --> WAIT FOR 20-30S,The update shows up! and enjoy it!
I MANAGED TO GET UPDATE BY USING THIS METHOD!!!
HAVE fune!
the update should go via zune. it should be official update。
If it works that's good news.. But is it that easy? I would thing that the update edits the registry...
If you update to 7008 the unlock still works that I know.. Are you sure that's not what happaned.. And you just got the Pre-NoDo update...?

the vision is 7390.after 7008,unlock,then prevent unlock, then connect to zune, if you can find update, then you success。many chinese succeed, the only problem is MS,it promise everyone can update, but only very few people receive the notice of update through zune。
March thanks for XDA-DEVELOPERS(xboxmod)!
But I am still waiting the Nodo Version in Hong Kong, if it is true, it is a great job for the user!!!
I am a user of HD2 with wp7 two days ago.but now I have to switch to Android again as the wp7 is not fully developed,I think.anyway...thanks for sharing the good news...謝謝!
It seems to work based on user replies. However, it requires HTC-ProvXml-Deploy to work. What about us non-htc users?
as it was already said, we need to know if it works on non HTC devices?
Can anyone post the xap here?
Registered and downloaded the xap. It's attached as a zip, just change the file extension from .zip to .xap.
Wondering if this will truly be our way to update to NoDo and still keep our devices unlocked...

The whole prevent-relock thing essentially does this:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DeviceReg]
"PortalUrlProd"=""
"PortalUrlInt"=""
On Samsung devices you can use the TouchXplorer Registry Editor to do this. Though it has limited access on Samsung devices. It will show an "Access Denied" when you open the DeviceReg registry-key. But it will still allow you to create new values there and overwrite the old values. So, open the DeviceReg-key and create the "portalUrlProd" and "PortalUrlInt" values as empty strings. That will prevent your Samsung from relocking. And as it seems, that tweak will even survive the NoDo-update.
is that only for htc device?

[Q] .net framework sideload stopped

Was playing around with the beta 2 mango, when the firmware update for my HD7 was made available. (note after mango upgrade never could sideload apps and windows device manager stopped working but the phone remained unlock). So I downgraded everything: Phone, Zune and the WP7 SDK back to the way I had it before mango. But now I can't sideload a thing, the Chevron tool doesn't even communicate with my phone anymore. I thank it is the version of .net I have installed. The SDK work but the WDM doesn't then when I update the .net so that the WDM can work the SDK stops working. HELP

Build 7720 - keeping chevron and how to add more languages - discontinued support

I am not supporting this thread anymore, as mango updates is widely available now
Here is the RTM 7720 Mango for your wp7, download link at bottom of this post
UPDATE 15.08.2011:
Please read post #2 to see how I keep chevron unlock and add my native language to RTM 7720
1. THIS IS NOT A GUIDE ON HOW TO KEEP CHEVRON UNLOCK, THAT IS NOW COVERED (ON A HD7) IN POST #2 IN THIS THREAD. THIS GUIDE IN POST#1 IS JUST A TRANSLATED/EDITED INSTRUCTION FROM THE GERMAN ONE IN THE RAR FILE.
2. THIS UPDATE IS NOT DESIGNED TO BE DEVICE SPESIFIC, SO BUGS BECAUSE OF OUTDATED DRIVERS ETC CAN BE PRESENT. AND YOU MIGHT NOT GET DEVICE SPESIFIC SOFTWARE TO RUN PROPERLY ETC ETC.
3. ITS FINAL MANGO FROM MICROSOFT, BUT CARRIERS/OEM'S NEED TO ADD THEIR "MAGIC" FOR IT TO BE AT IT'S PRIME
4. IF YOU DON'T KNOW THE BASIC OF HOW TO FLASH, THEN YOU NEED TO RETHINK WHAT YOUR DOING, AND READ UP IN THE DEV SECTION OF WP7
I'm quite sure that DFT will soon release a unlocked and ready to flash for all, so there is also the possibility to wait for their release
I just reuploaded and repost here, the file comes from longshot442. Original thread here
I take no responsibility for whatever happens to your device.
You can't update to 7720 when coming from DFT 7713 or 7714
After flashing to my HTC HD7:

My edit of the instruction file:
Caution: Do this at your own risk, no one is to blame if your update fails
Prerequisites:
-Phone with Nodo (7392), Mango 7661 (Beta) or Mango 7712 (Developer Beta)
-Micro-USB cable
-PC with at least 20 GB of free disk space on C: (Only needed if you want to backup your device)
-external hard drive or USB flash drive with up to 16 GB of free space (for the backup)
-1.5 - 2 hours available to flash from start, perhaps more if something go wrong, or if you accidentally make a mistake less if flashing from 7712
-Instructions might not work for you, perhaps you need to alter something? I'm sure you can figure something out ....and if you do, please post the sollution so others can benefit of you findings.
UPDATE 18.08.11:
Make backup of your 3'd party apps, visit this thread all questions regarding that app, ask them there
Instructions:
1. All contents must be extracted to a local disk, not a backup/external disk. I can recommend to put all contents of the extracted Mango folder directly to C:/ (If you got enough available space)
1a. C:/NoDoToRC
1b. C:/RCToRTM
1c. C:/Zune
2. Install the zune beta client version 4.8.2134.0 (comes with the downloaded file)
3. If necessary (usualy is), run the flashing tool "updatewp" from the folder "update tool" install right version for your system, 32 or 64-bit
4. Connect Device via USB to the PC
5. Close Zune software if it opens when connecting
5a. ----If your device is allready using 7661 or 7712, go to Step 16
5b. You can also follow Ansars instructions on keeping Chevron unlock here
6. Open the "NoDoToRC" folder and run the file "ISV_Provisioning_Live.exe" with admin rights (right click on the file..)
7. The tool will now create a backup of the phone. This takes quite some time, depending on how much you have installed on your device.
8. The phone will reboot and are starting communication with a "special" update server. If necessary, enter PIN code if activated on your device
9. Please dont close the update tool until it say its finished.
10. In the directory "C: \ Users \ <user> \ AppData \ Local \ Microsoft \ Windows Mobile Update,"there should be the newly created backup folder with a cryptic name. Please feel free to copy the folder to a secure location (external hard disk, etc.) and keep safe!
Repeat to yourself many times: "Yes, I have copied my backup to a secure location"
11. Now start the Zune client (with your phone connected) and it will begin looking for updates.
12. Build 7403 will now be found found and installed.
13. After 7403 has finished updating, the update is moving seamless to 7712 - the public developer beta.
14. If everything is done properly: Congratulations, the phone is in now running build 7712
15. Close/exit Zune.
Now please pay attention:
16. Copy the "RCToRTM" folder to "c:\" and only there.
17. In the RCToRTM folder, locate the "ISVTo7720.bat" and run as admin /still right click on file...)
18. Several updates will be installed, and the phone might reboot a few times. If applicable, please enter the PIN code.
19. If everything went smoothly: Congratulations, the phone is now on RTM 7720
20. Show of your RTM to your friends..or w/e
READ THE INSTRUCTIONS PLEASE, IF YOU FAIL SOMEHOW..READ THEM AGAIN AND AGAIN

My way!!!
My way to unlocked HTC HD7 with Mango RTM 7720 with my native language Norwegian. This guide can, and probably must be, adapted for other devices. But I wont do that here. This is just the way I did it with my HD7
This small guide requires that you come from a NoDo rom Chevron unlocked (I came from HD7 rom RUU_HD7_HTC_Europe_1.69.401.01_Radio_5.54.09. 21_22.33b.50.10U by ansar
Thx to the following ppl for the info I have collected/copied to make this guide:
Ansar
jemaho
Budniu
longshot442
Cotulla/DFT
and possibly more.
1. Download the package at the bottom of this post.
Included in the package is (Listing the things you need in there):
-Zune 4.7 / StartZuneLocal.exe
-WPSupportTool-x86.msi
-WPSupportTool-amd64.msi
-WP7 Deploy - Great tool to sideload, just drag a .xap file to the wp7-deploy.exe shortcut and it will deploy to your device.
-RegistryEditor 1.1.0.0.xap
-TouchXplorer.xap
-Unlock_Mango_XBMODDeployer.xap
-Update_Mango_XBMODDeployer.xap
Install to your PC in this order:
-StartZuneLocal.exe (If not allready on zune 4.7)
-WPSupportTool-x86.msi or WPSupportTool-amd64.msi depending on your system.
Optional:
Install theese if you don't allready have them (Not sure if required, but they wont do harm)
-dotNetFx40_Full_setup.exe
-vm_web.exe
-Win32OpenSSL_Light-1_0_0c.exe
-WP7AdsSDK.msi
2. If not done so, download the 7720 package from post 1 in this thread. That contains Zune 4.8 and other tools, and ofcourse the RTM 7720.
3. Be sure to have the latest chevron unlocked NoDo rom on your device.
a. If you don't have chevron NoDo rom, please follow ansars guide here. I won't cover that.
4. Connect to Zune 4.7 (4.8 might work also, but some have reported that it don't..there is sollution to that, but I wont cover it here)
5. Deploy these tools to your device using the WP7 deployment tool:
a. RegistryEditor, TouchXplorer and Unlock_Mango_XBMODDeployer.xap
6. This is how to add more languages then the default 5 languages that comes with the 7720 build:
a. Find you language code here if you don't know what your's is. Mine is Norwegian 0414, other examples is Japanes 0411, Netherlands 0413 and Russian 0419.
b. On your device, find and open the registryeditor you deployed in #5
c. Now enter HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\MUI\Available and add a new string. Now enter your locale, I used 0414
Name: 0414
Then enter you languages name in
Value: Norsk
If it was English/WWE then it would ofcourse look like this:
Name: 0409
Value: English
d. Exit the editor.
e. Next step in adding your language will not be done before after updating to 7403 (That is where I did it)
f. If you have added a language that Mango don't support, then the update to 7403 will fail. Or if you have done it incorrect/spelled wrong etc, then the update to Mango will also fail
7. How to keep chevron unlock when moving on from (in my case) 7392 to Beta 7403
a. If you don't allready have this: Run Marketplace, select HTC Apps and select and install HTC ConnectionSetup
b. Start XBMOD.Files.Deployer (Installed in #5) on your device, it will install a file called CustClear.provxml. Remember to uninstall XBMOD.Files.Deployer after its done.
c. Run TouchXplorer and copy CustClear.provxml from My Documents\My Ringtones\ to \Windows, then exit Touchxplorer.
d. DO NOT RUN CONNECTION SETUP NOW, IF YOU DO, YOU WILL LOOSE UNLOCK IN 7403.
e. Connect to Zune, and if it do not promt you to update to 7403, then check for update using settings in Zune.
f. Ofcourse....update your device to 7403.
g. Now on your device, go to settings/Region and language. If you have followed my guide correct, you should now see your language available, choose it and reboot.
8. Now that you should have your native language, we can move on to keeping chevron unlock after updating from 7403 to 7712.
a. Move to the 7720 package you have downloaded, and locate the Zune folder. In there is StartZuneLocal.exe, please run it to update to Zune 4.8.
b. After Zune have updated, locate the folder called UpdateTool (also in the 7720 zune folder) and choose the correct tool for your system and install it.
c. Connect your device to zune, and make sure its in sync mode, not guest mode.
d. If zune promts you a update, do not start it, just skip it.
e. Run Connection Setup.
f. Deploy Update_Mango.XBMODDeployer.xap to your device using the WP7 deployment tool. Remember to uninstall XBMOD.Files.Deployer after its done.
g. Run TouchXplorer and copy CustClear.provxml from My Documents\My Ringtones\ to \Windows, then exit Touchxplorer.
h. Now run Connection Setup again.
i. Deploy Unlock_Mango_XBMODDeployer.xap to your device using the WP7 deployment tool. Remember to uninstall XBMOD.Files.Deployer after its done.
j. Run TouchXplorer and copy CustClear.provxml from My Documents\My Ringtones\ to \Windows, then exit Touchxplorer.
k. DO NOT RUN CONNECTION SETUP NOW, IF YOU DO, YOU WILL LOOSE UNLOCK IN 7712.
l. Check for the 7712 update in Zune and update your device. (This takes long time)
m. When updated to 7712, Run Connection Setup on your device. Check that its still unlocked by opening TouchXplorer.
9. We can now move on to keeping chevron unlock after updating from 7712 to 7720.
a. Deploy Update_Mango.XBMODDeployer.xap to your device using the WP7 deployment tool. Remember to uninstall XBMOD.Files.Deployer after its done.
b. Run TouchXplorer and copy CustClear.provxml from My Documents\My Ringtones\ to \Windows, then exit Touchxplorer.
c. Now run Connection Setup again.
d. Deploy Unlock_Mango_XBMODDeployer.xap to your device using the WP7 deployment tool. Remember to uninstall XBMOD.Files.Deployer after its done.
e. Run TouchXplorer and copy CustClear.provxml from My Documents\My Ringtones\ to \Windows, then exit Touchxplorer.
f. DO NOT RUN CONNECTION SETUP NOW, IF YOU DO, YOU WILL LOOSE UNLOCK IN 7720.
10. Now the final chapter in the update saga; Moving on to RTM 7720 with chevron unlock (and ofcourse with your native language)
a. Connect your device, but close Zune if it's running.
b. Copy the "RCToRTM" folder located in the 7720 folder to "c:\" and only there.
c. In the RCToRTM folder, locate the "ISVTo7720.bat" and run as admin (right click on file...)
d. If all is done correctly, then your phone should begin updating to 7720.
e. After update is finished, you must run Connection Setup to keep the unlock.
f. Open TouchXplorer to confirm if the device still is unlocked. (If not, you will get a message that it has been revoked)
UPDATE: If running into the problem that the ISVTo7720.bat is closing, you can try open taskmanager (ctrl+alt+del) locate any process with the zune name running, and close them. Now run ISVTo7720.bat again to see if that worked.
If you run into problems using this guide, many of them have allready been covered allready. So please search the thread for the issues you might face to see if there is a sollution for you.
I am sure that this guide could be better in this or that way. But this is the way it worked for me
DOWNLOAD
I'll just update this thread with what I had in the other once since this will be the main one.
Before updating, I uninstalled the Zune Beta and re-installed the retail copy prior to running the 7720 bat file from the package. (It had given me an error about the version of tools not matching my zune, so I figured that would fix it... and it did).
After installing Zune, I ran the bat file and now the phone is up and running with 7720. This was a pretty legit install. All previous data has been retained and i DID NOT have to revert to NoDo (just as the instructions say you can proceed from where you are).
Also, after installing, Zune prompted me to update my HTC HD7 with the official HTC update that came out not too long ago.
So i'd say this is fully functional 7720 release. Hope that helps.
What keyboard layout and dictionaries does this release have?
i am updating frm nodo....does it jump to 7720 right away?
or need the previous betas??
According to the instructions, it will bring you through the steps to go all the way to 7712 then to 7720. So from reading, it'll take you through the updates through the mango beta into 7720.

thas gonna take pretty long like a tortoise reaching the finishing line
ive just updatet but no hidden wifi on my trophy
And before I head home, always nice to see my phone boot and not say "NotFor Resale" in the bottom corner anymore is always a plus.
Anyway that this can be used for a port to the HD2?
I can't even get it to install, it just pops up a command prompt and closes extremely fast.
Edit: Problem was that the Zune software was seeing my phone as a "Guest"
Instructions have been rewritten in post 1
So far from the other thread we've seen theses devices confirmed to work:
HTC 7 Pro
HTC Arrive
HTC HD7
HTC Mozart
HTC Trophy
Samsung Focus v1.3
Any others?
Will we still have to ability to side load apps, or does this break the chevron unlock / jailbreak?
This may be a silly question given that itje has posted those instructions but, is there anyway to go to RTM without having to go through 7712? MS never fixed the problem Quantum users had in that the Mango Beta would never flash successfully, leaving us stuck with NoDo unless we didn't mind losing all data. If there's no way, then I'll have to wait for the official.
nevermind!!!!!!
I love xda!
All my dreams have come true!
I will be doing this when I get home later tonight.

I am on 7712, but seeing the way to upgrade to 7720 I believe that LG will have to come out with a firmware upgrade for Quantum users before the OS can be upgraded to be able to pass that cold boot hurdle. With that said, I think even if I upgrade to 7720 now I probably have to start from NoDo to obtain the firmware upgrade (maybe it's smart enough to only upgrade the firmware when it comes along, we'll see).

thank you
Under Mango it will install under Settings (both apps).
there is no straight forward way to uninstall the newly installed apps from the settings page. I successfully uninstalled with XAPDeployX. Sideload the xap again and check "force uninstall if application is already installed". Then click deploy. The program will uninstall the existing one on the device first and report this in the deploy tool with a success message. Right then you unplug the phone from the USB. Voila - it is now uninstalled and gone from settings.
Somebody else posted that you can install an older version (e.g. v1.3) that will show up in apps. Then you uninstall and it normally and it will be removed from settings as well.
just in case it doesn't work for you and you want to remove it...
thanks
edit1: Cool, I can confirm that adding new themes works fine now on LG Quantum. With v1.3 only an existing one could be changed (there is a little bug that it multipies the colors within the program when you go back and forth, but luckily it doesn't stick in settings). When the app first opens I get an "UnauthorizedAccessException" message, but it continues to run.
I honestly have no clue, never installed a "Settings App" before. I'm not even on Mango yet. Waiting for the official update. I installed them on NoDo so I'll be ready & they show up as apps.

M$ and developer account does not support homebrew applications that edit system.
Has anyone been able to manage the sounds with advanced config tool?
I was able to deploy and run the app on DFT Freedom ROM 7720 but when I go to the sound category, everything is listed as "None". Setting a ringtone for certain events (I tried email and SMS), will disable the ringtone alltogether.

It would appear that the error message can be overcome using the ProvXML method to edit the Registry in Mango. Do the following Registry Edit;
-Allow max number of unsignd apps
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DeviceReg\Install]
"MaxUnsignedApp"=dword:7fffffff

By using provXML means going back to NODO first? thanx

If you have TouchXplorer installed & are already unlocked, than, no. You'll also need HTC Connection Setup for HTC's or the Samsung GPRS tool. There's thread all about how to apply ProvXML registry changes.

hmm.. yes, I don't have touchxplorer installed, and I cannot install it on mango, so NODO is the only way to go... anyway, I will do it when the official mango roll out is on, since I have to go back to NODO anyway. Thanx for your help
I like schaps stuff and use it a lot on NoDo and glad to see Mango. I am still on NoDo and waiting official Mango and then will definitely install.
woow..thx.. very nice
I succesfully deployed the ADv Config app to settings, but when I open it, it just flips and closes. How do I get it to stay open? Add it to the Provxml folder?

I put my phone in airplane mode then open advance configuration, that seems to prevent it from closing. can't remember where i got that from though
That worked!
For anyone who having the error 81030120 with the final SDK Kit, try to install the Beta Tool Kit , i mean the SDK Beta 1, or Beta 2, you can google for Offline install.
This is the direct link for Offline Installer, Full ISO of SDK Beta 1 7.1:
http://download.microsoft.com/downl...6-4272-93D8-C4D98F0567AE/WPDT_v2_Beta_en1.iso
from:
http://www.windowsvalley.com/windows-phone-developer-tools-7-1-beta-now-available/
I read an article from WPCentre a few mins ago and they said the Beta tool kit doesn't prevent user from Installing XAP that change the System File. So let's hope this work.
PS: DOn't even bother. Tried. And doesn't work.
I'm pleased that I found this app! I was bummed that Mango had such limited color choices for the tiles. Now I've got my dark blue back!!!
Works Perfect!
Installs and works perfectly on my HD2 running official Mango with the XBmod-Yuki rom.

Directions Please - Unlock/Backups/ROM/FLASH/MANGO/NODO/7004/Zune versions

Can someone please simplify all this for me?
The information on this site is so convoluded in terms of methods, some expired , some still valid, and guesses that are plain wrong, and irrelevancies.
I have been reading, installing, and uninstalling for hours into days.
Samsung Focus
1. Can Mango unlock be achieved with unlock from 7004?
2.I was on NoDo unlock and followed some instructions for the Focus that did not work. It went right to Mango LOCKED (as many others have reported).
I made a nice little back up of my NoDo unlock but can't get back to it using any version of Zune or any method, they all result in restore errors.
My back up might as well be on the north pole because I can't get to it.
3.I flashed back to 7004 and couldn't get chevron to unlock again like I used to be able to on XP or WIN 7 with various zune versions back to 4.7.
I'm wondering if the newer Zunes corrupted that somehow because last time it worked was on a fresh zune install on windows 7.
And besides that, they all ask to be upgraded before they do a back up, usually.
4.But even if it is unlocked at ROM 7004, zune updates (if chosen) will send it back to mango and locks it agian right? That's what happened last time , it just kept updating the phone for hours and then it was back to mango.
5.It appears my only option now is Mango locked or 7004 flash Rom with possible unlock.
Hopefully answers here will help others as well.
A few answers, though not compreheensive:
1) You don't have to let WP7 install each update, if you wanted to stop at, for example, NoDo 7392, you could. Just wait untilt he update gets that far, then pull the plug and/or hit Ccancel in Zune. Left to itsself, it will install all available updates.
2) The phone automatically dev-relocks whenever a major update is installed - this happens even to people with legitimate develop-unlock (and it's annoying!) For Samsung, I believe the technique for preserving unlock is the same one used to get interop-unlock on Mango: place an unlock provxml file in \provxml\ on the phone's filesystem (you can either use Heathcliff74's WP7 Root Tools to do this, or you can just install his interop-unlock XAP) and make sure you have a working version of the Samsung Diag app (should allow you to process provxml files). Once you have that, you can install all the way up to the Mango update safely, I think (I don't have a Samsung, but it should work) and use the Diag app to process your provxml file, which will both dev-unlock and interop-unlock the phone.
Not sure what's up with your backups; I can't really help you there without more information. What error do you get? What version of Zune are you using (you probably should use the latest version, 4.8.whatever)? How big is the backup (it's in %localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update\)?
As for what guides to follow, starting with the stickies is always a good idea.
Hello,
I have a HTC Mozart device wich is momentarily running on unlocked NoDo.
I have followed various guides from xda but I end up running a locked Mango (most of the guides require after Mango update to run HTC Connection Setup to unlock... which I am unable to run (black scren) and all other apps tell me revoked by Microsoft).
is there any latest guide a little more foolproof?
It seems that after 18th October something happened with Zune which prevents Mango unlock...

After you install the interop-unlock xap while on nodo then goto mango you reinstall the diag app and in the Diagnosis app dial: *#9908#.. Select "Heathcliff74 Interop Unlock"
then tap Save, tap Close and exit the Diagnosis app
@lucasryan: Those are the instructions for a Samsung phone. They don't work at all on an HTC phone.
@Gyuritzy: Currently, Microsoft is pushing the Mango update and an HTC update together. The HTC update blocks the unlock path used with Mango. If your phone gets that update - which means if it gets Mango through the retail update path - there's no current way to interop-unlock it.
If you can get Mango through an atypical upgrade path (I came from the beta, which worked), or if you use a custom ROM (be *very careful* of the bootloader version if you try this!!), you can get interoop-unlocked Mango on HTC. It's not easy, though.
Ahh i see that i quoted his post now. as alan93 has focus
What solution do I have to load Mango without HTC update? Should I try with RCT2RTM type of packagge?
@GoodDayToDie
#1 - ahh ok, but I'm sure watching the update tentativley is required right? For like an hour and a half.
#2 - now see, there you go again, this is only for dev-unlock people which , i'm not even sure what that is..what? you pay $100 to MS to get it? It needs to be stated more clearly where ever that solution is posted AT THE VERY TOP like this "IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A DEV UNLOCK ....
@ lucasryan - That can't be right, -->"installing interop unlock on NoDo then go to Mango"...STOP RIGHT THERE. when you go to Mango it wipes everything out and you have no more access...unless of course ..YOU ALREADY HAVE A DEV UNLOCK...what ever that is.
I did try the diagnosis trick on update to mango after putting that file on there but the diagnosis version would not go higher than 908 or what ever. Couldn't get 1112 or what ever the one that is needed.
Please, just say there is no way to unlock Mango unless you have a dev unlock and that is low percentage as it is...then I won't expect so much.
Thanks for the replies.
Here is the zune error I get on trying to restore to my NoDo unlock.
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...-restore/3ec7091d-d79d-422c-9995-cfe186e0155b
As you can see nobody is dying to answer it.
I think the code number means "this goon is trying to restore to an unlocked version, don't answer him".
@alan93: Developer Unlock is the term used for the change to your phone made by the Windows Phone Registration Tool (if you have a marketplace developer account), ChevronWP7 Unlocker (possible on pre-NoDo), ChevronWP7 Labs (coming soon), or changing the DeveloperUnlockState registry value located at HKLM\Comm\Security\LVMod to 1 (possible with the LG registry editor, or by using the Samsung diag app or HTC Connection Setup app to process to provxml file). The registry change is actually what matters; the other methods are simply ways to achieve it.
Dev unlock allows you to install XAP files - a renamed ZIP file with some manifest XML files, one or more managed (.NET-based) DLL files, and possibly other files needed by the application. Due to a bug in the application installer, you can also use a XAP to put arbitrary files almost anywhere in the filesystem (the installer can't write to the \Windows\ directory).
One of those manifst files specifies capabilities that the app has, which controls permissions of the app (for example, ID_CAP_ISV_CAMERA allows access to the public camera APIs). As of Mango, including beta versions, it is no longer possible to install apps with the ID_CAP_INTEROPSERVICES capability unless the MaxUnsignedApp registry value (located in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\DeviceReg\Install) is set to at least 300 (the default value is either 10 or 3, depending on the unlock method used). ID_CAP_INTEROPSERVICES is required for interfacing with drivers, a way for applications to run at high permissions (for example, to write to the registry). Each time you install a major upgrade, such as Mango, this value is reset to its default. An app with ID_CAP_INTEROPSERVICES therefore can't be installed (or run, if it was installed before upgrading to Mango) until this MaxUnsignedApp registry value is changed, a process referred to as Interop-unlock (term coined by Heathcliff74 on this forum). Marketplace-installed apps are exempt from this restriction, which is why things like Connection Setup (which has ID_CAP_INTEROPSERVICES) can be used.
For what it's worth, I got my dev-unlock by purchasing a marketplace developer account ($100 from MS). One day I may even submit an app to the marketplace, but so far all the apps I've written use homebrew and wouldn't be acceptable for the marketplace, so I just publish them here.
Thanks great explanation.
I intend to write my own too, I wrote one and have a few more great ideas but didn't want to pay until i made sure I was able to write them completely and testing on the simulator sux. And last I heard, the media player doesn't work with it.
I just think the fee and lockout just hurts development thereby limiting the success of WP7.
If it was $50 or less I would probably pay it.
I mean for crying out loud I'm a certified MCP/MCAD, they should give me a break here.
