Ok so here is my problem, I had an epic and it was rooted fine, could load themes kernels everything without any kind of problems, that phone ended up getting broken so I replaced it and got another epic, the phone rooted fine, runs wireless tether and other programs fine without issue, but it seems like anytime I try to load any themes change kernels it says its installed but goes back to the way it was , no changes... any ideas? Im running stock everything, ec05....

I believe you need to be on a deodexed ROM to install themes. The EC05 plus ROM is deodexed and is basically modified and optimized stock if you want to try that.

hi all, been following the Epic forums for sometime, finally decided to start getting involved
Im experiencing an issue with EB13. when it first came out I Odined EB13, everything worked great. Since then I have ran into the same issue every time I switch ROMS. I will flash the new rom, about half the time it works great. The other half I get no connectivity at all, and the UI is sluggish. Going into about phone, I see that my baseband is unknown, and my hardware version is unknown.
I can usually get it to connect after re-flashing and re-flashing the rom a few times.
Also, noticed that once I get it to actually connect and I get "bars", I will of course then do a fresh Nandroid, after a full nand backup the issue reappears.
Anyone know what this could be? weird thing is just that its so random. I can get it to work most of the time, just have trouble when switching roms.
Set up:
CWM3.0.0.6/EXT4
Just flashed SyndicateROM today.
EB13 (sometimes)
FIXED
FIXED. all the computers in my home are Macs so odining the modem again is not a quick fix option.
Booted into CWM3 and Fixed Permissions.
Booted up and connected.
Interesting stuff
I've been experiencing the exact same problem as the OP, but for me, running fix permissions in CWM (2.5.1.0) doesn't (always) solve the issue.
It seems to happen anytime I flash a zip from CWM, and goes away randomly (usually after sever flash attempts and modem restores with Odin).
Really hoping someone has an idea what's causing this issue, because it makes flashing things very tedious knowing half the time I'm gonna be stuck with a useless phone until I can get the modem working again.
I'm wondering if it's somehow a hardware issue, since it doesn't seem to affect everybody.
If it helps, I have the stock deodexed EB13 ROM with the Genocide 0.3a kernel.
I'm definately thinking its a cwm issue.. ill even just do a nandroid backup for kicks, reboot and it will do it sometimes.. eventually I might odin back to eb13 and reflash cwm and custom rom and see if I can get it to go away

Let me know if that works for you, because it happens to me all the time, and it's really annoying.
There also doesn't seem to be a simple way of fixing it.
Seems to just randomly go away as suddenly as it comes on.
Okay, so I just odined back to stock EB13 and I still have modem issues.
Currently going all the way back to DI18 to see if that fixes things, but is it safe to assume it's a hardware issue if even Odin doesn't fix it?
Okay, so the unknown baseband issue is back for me, and I seem to have made some headway on what causes it.
I had just tried to initiate a ROM backup in ROM Manager, but it hung while rebooting into CWM (on the Samsung Boot Logo).
I think I might have been doing something with ROM Manager last time it happened as well.
Can anyone who knows more about this stuff than I do think of a reason it'd happen when using ROM Manager?
I'd very much like to nip this issue for good, because it's making it hard to justify using CWM/root if I'm gonna keep losing the phone part of my phone.
Can I bump this? My battery died, and when I turned it back on, I have the unknown baseband, unknown hardware problem. I've been googling all night, and haven't found a solution.
I have been running ERA Legendary v3 on the EI22 Modem for a few weeks with ACS Recovery that I've had installed since it came out.
Any help would be awesome.

And I've tried flashing modems/roms and odining modems/roms. Even Heimdalling modems/roms. No luck. I've mainly tried ec05 and up. I will try older ones right now, if I can find them.
Currently im trying to run the stock 3.70 deodeoxed. For some reason every sense rom i try to run I get wifi error when i try to turn the wifi on. AOSP roms work fine. Kinda wanted to get this fixed so I can sell it. Possiable evo3d in future. Thanks all.
That is very strange. Did wifi work for you before you rooted the device? If it did, when did you initially notice that wifi was not working properly? If it works for AOSP roms, it should work for Sense-based roms, as well. If you haven't done so, use amon_RA as your recovery, wipe EVERYTHING in the wipe menu Except the card and then flash the stock "odexed" rom from HERE.

Ill give it a try and let you know.Wifi works like a dream on cm7
i just received the newer evo with hardware 4 and gingerbread installed on it, i rooted the phone using the new root method and installed mikfroyo 4.62, the wifi is not connecting right or wont connect, ive tried at home, school, and a friends house, is there something i can change like wimax, NV, Pri, radios...just throwing stuff out there, but you know what i mean, anything like that, that i can change so wifi will work again??
Have you tried reflashing the rom? Did you install on a clean install?
Did you flash a custom kernel? Sometimes an incompatible kernel will mess with your wifi.

I have a similar issue that just occurred, I've had it working all until last week now any ROM I flash/restore will connect to wifi then immediately disconnect.
Any other thoughts?
same here then I wiped everything two times and flashed synergy RLS1 + godmode 3.0 rom and now its back. So maybe try that and let me know if it works for you or if it just worked for me.
sorry i thought i hit submit message like a weeks back lol, yeah i got it to work, i flashed a different rom and kernal then went back to the rom i like and it worked, weird, something must have not flashed write
I've been running ICS for about two weeks without a problem. I just flashed the 5/4/12 ICS build today and it also seemed to work fine. I noticed that I still could not access the phone via USB. To determine whether it was a phone or PC problem I restored the DINC from my last Gingerbread backup. When I cleared the phone and restored my current ICS backup the phone boots to the splashscreen and freezes. I tried a fresh install of the ICS build, but it still freezes at the splashscreen. Any ideas or suggestions? I'm currently running my last Gingerbread backup for now, but really want to get back to ICS.

I have seen a variety of posts in various threads about people not being able to get GPS connections and blaming the ROM they were on the for the problem - I imagine that sometimes that could be the reason but something happened to me recently that makes me wonder...
I am a flashaholic - often going back and forth between various ROMS via Nandroid back ups - all was good - then recently I noticed my GPS wasn't working. I thouht it was the rom - but no matter what I did I could not fix it. I tried installing other roms - totally clean install - I tried flashing back to rooted stock and no matter what I tried, GPS did not work.
I don't know where I saw it, but I finally saw a post from someone who suggested fixing it by going back to stock via odin - I tried that and it didnt work either - digging a little deeper someone suggested using odin to going back to pure stock then go into settings and do a factory restore.
I tried it - and it worked - took me virtually all day to figure it out - but it is working better than ever now - I wish I knew what caused it in the first place - but at least I found a somewhat reasonable solution.
If you have lost your GPS and can't get it working again - give it a shot -
Does anyone else have any other suggestiions that might work?
This is correct. I had this exact same issue and this worked for me as well.

Do you know why it happend in the first place? Was it the result of a specific Rom or just flashing in general?
Thats what i found that worked for me too. It only worked after i went into settings and reset the phone after odin.

I recently lost my GPS after flashing a Sprint-based ROM. Unfortunately, ODIN back to stock and factory reset from the Settings menu (and from recovery) did not bring back my GPS.
However, I followed a suggestion from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1923067
I used ODIN to go back to a rooted stock ROM, installed CWM, installed the Sprint-based ROM that seemed to have been the source of the trouble. My GPS started working again. I then used CWM to restore a stock nandroid backup I had from earlier and GPS continued to work thereafter in any ROM I flashed.
There may be a simpler process, but that's what worked for me.

Now that I thnk of it, I also had flashed a Sprint Based rom - that must have triggered my original issue - I explained what I did to restore my GPS at the start of this thread _ and it is similar to what you described - execept I did not odin to a SPRINT rom - I used ODIN to bak to pure stock - then did a factory restore - (and this second step is what seemed to do the trick) then I re-rooted and went backto my happy days of flashing roms - I haven't had an issue since.

Well...that may not be the cause but it's a common denominator. I did and I had to flash back to stock and factory wipe to get mine back.

It definitely seems to be a common element to most of these GPS issues. I'm not sure why, in some cases, all it takes is a factory reset in stock to fix it, while others have to re-install the Sprint ROM first. Either way, though, it seems like in most cases, it's user-fixable.
Got the GPS death syndrome today. Flashed a ton of stock ICS nandroid backups without any luck. Finally fixed it after flashing a Sprint JB ROM nandroid then back to ICS. Such a werid issue.
Why flash a Sprint ROM on an ATT phone though?

Because its the only official US Jelly Bean released at the moment.
It was one of the many backups I had. Don't know why it fixed it but it did.
I have the same issue. Now to flash a stock rom using Odin, do you have to use the toolkit? Also where can I download a Rogers stock rom from?
finally after losing gps and reading thread after thread got it to work , thank you to the guys that personally try to help , dont know why it struck this time but it did , now i will try to bring it back to stock , again thanks , by the way the rom i was using to bring it back was serenity 1.1 which i use before but wouldn't stick...:good:

If your problem started after installing a Sprint-based ROM, then root your phone, install CWM and then install that same Sprint ROM. Your GPS will probably work after that. You can then restore a Nandroid backup of another ROM. That's how a lot of us were able to fix our GPS.
