[Q] (HELP) Fix for Desire no signal, sound or USB connection. - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Help!
I have been a owner of the Desire for a year, rooted it, (no s-off) but no problems at all till now. I'm on T-Mobile.
About 3 weeks ago I noticed that I had no signal. At first this wasn't a surprise because of where I live can be described as 'countryside' so I don't really get much signal. However, after travelling to a different place I found that I still had no signal. Later on that day, I was relieved to find I had signal again, albeit for 10 minutes as it went rather soon. After this I found I had no sound or USB connection. I left it off for a considerable amount of time, about 12 days yet I turned it on today: still no signal! I suspect it is a hardware problem but still have tried a couple of ROMS but found no difference.
So I have a few questions. Has anyone had this or found a fix? Even as I've rooted (yes I know I've lost warranty) can I send it in? (I also have phone insurance).
Thanks in advance!

Flash back the orignal desire ruu and you can send it back to where you got it from for a replacement or fix. So long as you are still under warranty or have a very understanding insurance.

Thanks for your reply!
I don't think I'd be able to flash the RUU since I can't connect via USB :/
what do you mean warranty? You lose it when you root. And also, what will the phone insurance do?

Try the usb brick fix, which can be found here on xda.
Swyped from Oxygen with Transparent XDA App

I don't actually think it would help? And is it dangerous? It charges on USB and on mains:/
I've also noticed that when I try to play a song white noise softly comes out of the speaker:/
Many thanks for help

Anyone? thanks for the help, I suck at software stuff

yeah you only loose warranty when you root if they know about it.. when you restore your phone with RUU there is no way to tell and it looks like a stock phone - and your warranty is "restored".
and I'd try the same (USB Brick fix guide), then run RUU

I really hate it when people ask for help, get an answer and then they say "I do not think it would help!" without any good reason.

Okay I see your point but I thought the USB brick fix was for a completely other thing? But thanks for the advice, I shall try that. Is it difficult, and dangerous? For my last question if worse turns to worse should I get the stock rom still with root and try to wing it?
Cheers for all your help!

If you ask the me, the the guide for fixing usb brick is not too difficult. It's not dangerous at all, make sure you follow the instructions carefully. When finished, flash ruu and use your warranty for your speaker problem.

Fix!
Yes!!
I was going to wait till the weekend to try the USB brick fix, so I could have time to take it slowly.
So I got up today and got my phone from where I stored it... And It had service!
Im charging it atm so after I will check sound & USB connection
Thank you all so much

if you still ever have problems with signal, type this into the dialer *#*#4636#*#*
go to phone information, and play around with the preferred network type, as there might not be certain networks types available in your area (i.e. no 3g, just 2g etc.)

i had the same issues, i could not connect to the network, or if it did.. it was low signal and not as it normally was.
so here is what u do... go to your settings menu. click on wireless and networks. and next.. turn on Airplane mode... (This will disable all your wireless connections.) now while the phone is on, and airplane mode enabled. take the Battery out.. Wait 30 second or so.. put the battery back in..... and turn on your phone as usual... and it will still be in airplane mode... again go to the settings menu.. wireless and networks, and now turn off the airplane mode. and now your phone should work as it did.. This reconnects it to the towers, or carrier... I had this work for me.. simple...

Show of hands; How many have a fried radio stack?

So I've been trying to revive my 838pro for a few weeks now, It's got the NO GSM, boots to OS fine issue which seems to plague many people.
I'm just wondering how many of you out there have the same or similar (GSM/Radio ceased functioning) problem, I know it's lots but I've made a poll here so we can tabulate some figures. Surely if it's a large enough problem we can do something about it legally? Or at least get some assistance/guidance from HTC?
I know alot of people have been spending alot of their spare time on this and I'm not trying to belittle or disregard your threads by starting a new one, but this is really the thread for people who have tried EVERYTHING! (I even dissassembled the unit, desoldered the backup battery and soaked it in some soapy water for awhile!)
So, if you've tried all the radio upgrades/downgrades, hardware/software/voodoo tricks and still come up with zilch, vote yes.
Oops sorry, I'm more tired than ever at the moment, could a mod move this into 'Upgrading' ?
you should add "how many have bricked a hermes radio". i've had mine warranty replaced twice in 12 months.
I bought a phone with a trashed radio rom but with hundreds of flashes to my current phone haven't had a problem yet.. all I can say is these three things: charged battery, stable computer, and don't touch the damn phone or cable while its flashing!

This doesn't explain why so many people are experiencing call drop-outs and other GSM failures that continue to get worse until it just dies and won't be revived, even people who've never upgraded the ROM.
Count me in.
Surely we can at least narrow down the faulty component?

ENOUGH SAID u can be a flashaholic make sure u take the olipro steps and flash away dont f*ck with that usb cable
Better yet, put down the USB cable, step away from activestink and grab your SD card.
Were you flashing your phone at the point when your radio went out defroster?
nope, gradual radio death, once it was approaching unusable i tried flashing and the radio area just won't flash, even if it's in the fridge upside-down and coated in sacrificial lamb's blood.
my radio is dying
i can still flash my phone but the radio gets disconnected specially when i'm trying to make a call. if i'm out of the coverage area for too long, my phone won't reconnect to the network when all the other phones reconnected without problems! and i get a very low signal too. 709sc gets 3 bars while my phone get 1 or 2 bars only T_T Lately, it won't connect to the softbank network even if i turn on/off the radio.
did any experienced this? maybe i should just brick this damn phone and ask for a replacement? i tried to get it repaired but since its already sim unlocked, HTC refuses to repair it.
ok I give up, i've put the piece of crap on eBay! with a detailed desription of course.

[Q] Weird battery+rebooting issue

Hi all,
First off I'd like to say that I've really learned a lot since first getting my Desire 7 months ago - Mostly from XDA 9hence the low post count... Reading usually does the trick).
Problem is, 2 days ago something happened to which I can't quite find a solution to..
So the story goes as follows:
I was playing around with my Desire as I usually do, using JuiceDefender with a regular 30 minute pause between syncing mobile data (which is the profile I've been using more or less since I got the phone). I also have been using SetCPU with the smartass governor with a 1133mhz processing speed, which has never given me problems before.
Now, suddenly the machine rebooted, for no apparent reason, and the processor (at least that's what I think the bottom part of the phone is, on the back side) was really hot.
Naturally I turned it back on, and thought it was a regular reboot, but it happened again, after another 20 minutes or so of regular use.
I then decided to let it cool down a bit, and see what then. No difference. Then I tried turning off mobile data, which seems to give a partial result - I can make long calls, but can't surf the net and use my phone with moderate use for over 15 minutes or so.
I also tried doing a full wipe and a cache wipe, then restoring the data, but to receive the same result.
My question is - What should I do now? Send it to get it repaired? Is it most likely a motherboard issue which needs replacing? And do I need to unroot my phone? If so, how do I go about doing that?
Many thanks,
Rafi
bump..
anyone? an idea...? thanks
I already see this issue before.
The only option is to send it for repair, htc will change your motherboard and everything works fine again.
bump again.. any other ideas? or any other options on what i should do re. unrooting?

This thread should help with unrooting:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
and this one with the branded ruu you will need to flash for return for warranty:

hope it helps!
I'm with everyone on this issue.
Don't waste your time testing and trying to figure out whats wrong.
Flash the RUU, take it back. I had the same problem with my phone (Random rebooting). I wasted a month of experimenting and testing. I eventually gave in and took it back.
well, i sent it off without unrooting and without flashing the RUU, i didn't have the time. what happens if they find out it's been rooted? will they refuse to deal with my phone? or will it simply cost money to replace a motherboard..? how much should it cost in the case they don't give the warranty..?

rooting voids your warranty. Why didn't you unroot? It takes around 15-20 minutes.

Many problems with my One X recently

Hey guys,
I have always been very satisfied with my One X, but it's starting to piss me right off.
Since the last update (1.29.401.11) the GPS isn't working with my phone anymore. In addition I have a yellow spot on my display which doesn't disappear.
Today I returned from my holiday abroad and I wanted to connect to my wifi network at home, but it just doesn't work. If I click "connect" nothing happens.
Seems like my formerly perfect working One X has turned into the most horrible one with every problem you could think of.
I did try a hard reset earlier, but it didn't fix the issues. Can I expect the problems to be fixed with the next update (4.04 or 4.1), or is it definitely a hardware fault?
Does anyone have any experience how long it approximately takes HTC to repair the phone? This is important, as I am planning to move to Germany soon and I am not sure if I should send the phone to HTC in Germany or the UK. I didn't unlock or root my phone, so I guess the warranty claim should be no problem at all. Do you think I can expect to receive a new phone instead of having mine repaired? as far as I know they will have to replace the display and the mainboard because of my problems, right? So a new phone would be the easier choice for them or am I wrong?
Thanks in advance for your help!
You could try to flash the latest RUU, some who had WiFi problems now say they are fixed.
Won't hurt to try.
RUU can be installed on stock locked devices, so maybe something to look into?
You can get the RUU from my Dropbox link.
http://db.tt/eYSlILnf
Enter fastboot on phone,
Plug in usb cable to phone from PC
Should now say fastboot USB on phone
Double click RUU on PC to install

Since your on 1.29.401.11 you can flash the 2.17.401.2 RUU which is the latest from htc. You dont have to be htc dev unlocked to flash it. It might fix the radio issues that you are having. If not it might be a hardware problem so you would have to send it to htc. I have never sent any of my htc phones back for a fix (touch wood) so i cant comment on that.
You can find the RUU In this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1543604 The thread does have mirrors for the RUU if you dont have a file factory account.
Hope it helps :cyclops:
Thank you so far! I just flashed the new RUU, but it didn't fix any of my problems.
The worst about this is, that I didn't know that a factory reset is performed during the process, I thought it's just like installing the automatic updates, so I didn't do a backup of my latest data. I don't blame you for that, I should have thought of that before flashing the new RUU version.
Anyways, I guess I will have to send my phone to HTC to fix the problems.
HTC say their max turn around time is 1-2 weeks I'd give it 3 just to be safe and plan from that.
Another problem I have now after the RUU update: My phone is always saying "Damaged phone storage" and it is asking me to format the sd card. If I click cancel nothing happens, but I can't access the storage at all. If I connect the phone to the PC it doesn't give me the option to choose "Disk Drive", there is just "Charge only", "USB Tethering" and "Internet Pass through".
As I have some important data on the storage, I need to access my phone storage before sending my phone to HTC or formatting it.
Any ideas how to resolve this?
EDIT:
I just tried to connect to my Media Link HD and it works perfectly, still I cannot connect to my home wifi network. This is a bit weird, as the Media Link HD connects to the phone via wifi as well, doesn't it?

Sounds like the antenna connection hardware fault that also can affect the GPS antenna. See the start of this thread for info. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688538
Flashing ROMs is not going to fix it, it is a known hardware fault. I'm wondering if your phone has run hot or has been stressed/bent, for example in your pocket, this potentially causes the broken antenna connections and might also have caused the yellow spot.
Regards
Phil
After another hard reset the wifi is working again, still having the GPS problems and the yellow spot though.
I actually don't think I ever bent the phone, of course I carry it around in my pocket, but that's what a phone should be made for, right? However, if it was bent in any way will this cause any problems with a warranty claim? The yellow spot doesn't really bother me as it is barely visible, but I have purchased Navigon a while ago and I would like to use it with my One X now, so I wanted to send the phone to HTC sooner or later to get it fixed.
The other day I tried to use Navigon on a short trip (around 20 miles) without expecting a GPS signal at all.
After like 5 Minutes it suddenly picked up a GPS signal and Navigon worked fine for approximately 10 miles. Then it suddenly just stopped again.
Is this really a hardware issue? Any ideas how to probably get it fixed without sending it to HTC?
If a flash of new ROM and hard reset doesnt fix your problems, its most likely hardware issue. Like everyone said, just send it back to HTC.
One x is a crap phone. Worst HTC device ever

[Q] The WiFi issues.

Hi all, I have had the WiFi issue since day one, and can not be bothered to send my phone for repair, I probably should but that means being without the beats for a couple of weeks, which is not good at all as it is vital for work and home life for me.
I have a question, I know I have the WiFi issue, but my question is this, will it deteriate over time? and become much worse. And if so can it deteriate to the point where the WiFi will not function at all?
I ask this because I am now ready to root my HOX, but I know rooting it loses warranty, and therefor I loose the chance of it being repaired altogether, but if it doesn't get worse or break over time, then Ima root.
What would your suggestion be? Send it for repair and then root, root it anyway or any other suggestions?
Thanks !
I would get it repaired first. Personally I only found out that I had the WiFi problem after I unlocked my boot loader and voided my warranty and it can be a pain in the arse sometimes when you lose signal. So far I haven't experienced any deterioration of WiFi signals, always has been bad.

The well known WiFi issue that most HOX's have, where you lose signal when your hand is over the antenna (only sometimes its not too extreme in my case) and I've never done the squeeze test properly, but my signal is always fine, it just drops connection if I hold it in the wrong place.
Surely you know the WiFi issue (dont mean to be nasty)
My HOX came back from screen repair with the wifi fault which it didn't have before. Don't want to send it away again so I'm going to try the tinfoil fix in the next few days, seems easy enough.

Mind dropping me a PM when you've done it and let me know how you get on?
And thats exactly why I don't want to send mine, I've seen it before and its happened first hand. You send it for one fault, they fix that but send it back with another.
Sorry to hear that mate :/

p600 wifi turning off on of on off on....

Ok this started last night, tablet has been working flawlessly for the last 6 months or more.
What happened was, I wasn't able to use the Internet. Just wasn't working. And every 20 seconds or so it would flash up at the bottom of the screen "connected to (my router)".
So I turned wifi off and on, which usually fixed connection issues, but didn't help. I also restarted router, even though my computer and my phone isn't having any issues.
So then I went to the wifi settings screen to see if there was any way to reset networks. What I saw was this:
If i turn wifi toggle on and watch the screen, it would scan for networks, find the list... Couple seconds pass... Then the toggle would switch itself off and back on! And then it would start looking and finding networks again, and then off and on, and etc etc.
I have tried a factory reset and cache reset.
I have also downloaded the 4.4.2 stock rom and installed using odin for a totally new install.
Still does it.
Any suggestions? Seems very strange. It's under warranty but it seems like an odd hardware fault, seems more like software but I dunno.
Help me xda, you're my only hope.
I've been searching the Internet all day trying to find someone else havin this problem... But I seem to be the only one. And noone seems to have any suggestions.
At the moment I'm having to consider a warranty dispute, but that means however many days/weeks without the tablet which I use on a daily basis.
Not ideal Samsung.

Hey. I had the EXACT same problem. Even made a video of it and showed it to the service point personell. Turning on off on again and again, it also displays in the settings the switch just switches itself without any action of mine. It was a hardware defect. send it in and get a new one, better than being annoyed by it. Mine did it on a 5-10sec interval length...

Yeh mines probably every 5-10 seconds...
So this is definitly a hardware fault? In which case I'll have to get in touch with john lewis and hope they will do an exchange in store. If it involves having to send it off to samsung and waiting for it..
Anyway thanks for replying to the question, shame it wasn't better news haha!

yeah sorry to be the one to tell you this is a faulty device but it seems like this unit ain't free of errors and there quality control is somewhat sketchy.
Which android version are you running? I am asking because I run kitkat and also have relatively ****ty battery life. I use it for university so I have the screen on and write notes during lectures. Usually it lasted 7-8hours but for about a week or two it now only lasts 4-5 hours of screen time which is really ****ty.
I read somewhere that this might be a motherboard issue and if it is it might be somewhat corellated to our wifi problem. In my case they replaced the wifi module and gave me back my "old" device but this is having bad battery life so I am thinking about sending it in (again). I did however root so I would have to make use of the warranty provided by the seller, not samsung itself, since my knox is tripped.
(in Germany the sellers also must provide 6months - 2 years of warranty and there was a judgement in Europe that rooting must not have any influence on wether your device still is under warranty or not. sadly this only applies to the warranty provided by the seller, not the manufacturer)
Is your BT on and are you connected to a 2.4 GHZ network?
If so, turn off BT
I get random WiFi disconnects and reconnects from 2.4 GHZ networks when BT is on but not connected. Though, Ive never noticed the wifi switch going off and on.
I am running 4.4.2 or whatever, kitkat anyway.
Bluetooth is off, I never use it on my tablet. I dunno what network type I'm running, might be N or might be B/G, but whatever it is it what it has been for months as I havent changed any router settings lately.
I have restarted the router twice already in case this was a network problem, but the network wouldn't cause the wifi to toggle off and on, it would just cause disconnects etc. Least I assume so. I may try this just in case but like I said the network type hasn't changed lately
John Lewis are saying they won't exchange it, it will have to be sent off to Samsung for "repair". Meaning I'll probably get sent back a refurbished second hand one with a dodgy light bleed screen, as I expect they have hundreds of those lying around now.
Oh and it'll be up to 28 days. For a premium and expensive device that's less than 6 months old this just isn't good enough.

I had mine replaced as well but dont remember wether I got a new one or just my old one repaired... should have written down the IMEI I guess :-/
you're from Bristol, don't the EU rights apply there? If so your retailer should be obliged to replace or repair the device.

Anyways my replacement was done through Samsung and it took 6 days. But then again idk differences between UK and Germany...
