write protection is mostly a physical latch/switch on the card itself
look around on the card and see if there is a slide that slides up or down depending on which position it says "lock"

which carrier? I'm sure you can find an adapter for a few bucks online or you could return it and tell your carrier that it doesn't function and ask for an exchange or something

How do you know it's write protection? The card might either have been damaged so it cannot be written to or DRM protection kicked in (especially if you used it in Windows 7 phone).
In the former case I'd suggest to get a new card. In the latter, you may try to resuscitate it using a Symbian-based Nokia.
Everytime I try to make a photo phone says 'memory card write protected. Cannot edit files' and it was never used in any phone other than my x10.

Micro SD is write protected. Lock switch is off!
Micro SDHC:
I don't know what happened but my micro SD card is showing write-protection. Was using it on my phone. Now I can't format it. The lock switch is off, and neither adapter nor card reader can help. I can only access files(read & copy) on computer. I have scoured the web but to no avail. Tried Windows,Ubuntu,Panasonic and HP formatter. Phone does not detect it either.
Possible culprit:
Sandisk Memory Zone(Android). Tried backing up my apps to Dropbox, but got interrupted due to network failure.
Any idea on how to format it?

Has anyone any experience of these. I am about to start a course whereby I will be using lots of different computers and I would like to be able to make my MDAIII completely compatable.
Most of the time I will be able to use a pen drive between my PC and the new computers but if I have worked on the MDA in the meantime it would be brilliant to be able to transfer work immediately.
I have found some SD card readers in the form of Pen Drives which look like they would do the job. Presumably if I kept it with me and wanted to take files from computers (say work I had done in a school/college) or wanted to put stuff to the PC, I would just take out the SD card and pop it in the oen drive reader and hey presto.
I would really like some feedback from anyone using one or anyone that knows about them.
thanks so much
Catherine
I've been using the Iogear mini-SD pen drive reader for about a month now with a SanDisk 2GB mni-SD that I use on my Wizard. It works just like a regular pen drive -- no problems so far.
They do make a SD-friendly version, too; here in the states, they run about $10, so figure on paying about 5 pounds.
thanks
Thanks so much - I feel a little more confident that it may work now. I am so excited ( I know it is sad but it will give me total flexibility).
i have a sandisk cruzer sd read which is kinda as small as a pendrive as you can them
i also have another noname one which does as good a job
why don't you use your mda as a mass store drive, there is a programme that tels the pc you mda is a mass store drive.
maybe because you'd need to carry a disc around with you and install that program to every computer you want to get data from
I might be missing the point here but bare with me.
You have a MDAIII, it has a SD Slot, you are looking for a way to use the MDAIII as mass storage and are talking about a pen drive.
Well as you are carrying the MDAIII, why not put a SD card in it and use that in a USB slot as mass storage.

No need for a SD card reader or the like with this model

No...there's a utility that you install on the PPC.
Edit: See here: http://www.softick.com/pocket-pc/cardexport2/
Basically what it does is give you an icon to tap which switches the PPC between ActiveSync and Mass Storage. Tap the icon before connecting then it identifies itself to the host PC as you have chosen.

I already use an SD card but my aim is to be able to easily transfer data between my MDAIII and other people's computers - without the need for any leads or cables or installing any software onto their computers. I am not talking about pendrives containing memory - just ones that look like pen drives but are actually card readers with usb bits.
You are right in that one of those would do the job - but as the Pendrive readers cost less than £5.00 (sterling) and give me the flexibility to use any SD card that I own or may own in the future it is a more flexible option. I will keep an eye out for these if I see them though - I hadn't realised they existed. They are a bit expensive at the moment at $70.
This is the kind of thing : http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Item(1220)-SDDR-103-SanDisk_MobileMate_SD_Plus5in1_Reader.aspx and this is the type I am getting

I think the best solution for you will be high capacity SD card ( 2 maybe 4 GB) + freeware soft to change your MDA II into "The Most Expensive Card Reader". You have to upgrade OS in MDAIII to WM5.0 too.So you need a sync&charge cable.
Actual newest version of the soft is attached here

This won't do anymore for me than the oendrive reader I have just bought? I can now succesfully transfer files from my device to any PC I want with no software. What I can't yet do is save to teh SD via the card reader which I should be able to do (I thought)
Hey guys, I've searched and tried a bunch of different suggestions found in other threads, but this issue keeps recurring.
At this point I am wondering if this is a virus my AV is unable to recognize, or if maybe the card is corrupted somehow. See the screenshot I attached...After using a card reader to transfer all of my files onto my Team 64g SDXC last night, I verified that the card was not write protected, and went through all of the folders to verify this renaming issue did not occur. Everything was fine.
This morning when I started to flash the new MOAR, i started a backup with TWRP, and it says it cannot create the folder because the card is write protected. >_< So I backed up to the internal instead. Flash went fine, no problems. So then plug my S3 into my comp, I went to move some files to it, and just out of curiosity, decided to check several folders. Boom! Folders have been renamed again!
Ok so wtf is going on here? Has anyone seen this before? Possible virus? If this is corruption, why was it not showing up when I copied all the file last night?
*Edit: I should mention that the files/folders that have been corrupted cannot be deleted. Windows says they are write protected, but when you view properties, read-only is not checked. I can rename them, but not delete them... Argh!
Open to any suggestions here. I have tried guiformat, the HP format tool, the Partition Wizzard program, and the SD3 tool. Issue still recurs.
* Added another screenshot of files which have been corrupted. *
Sounds like your card got corrupted or a bad download of some kind. Have you tried ZARecovery? I used it once to at least get my files off the card, then transfer files to new card.
sent from somewhere
Thanks for the reply! Does that add up tho? Like I said, the files were fine last night, it's only this morning that the corruption in the files shows up. Also, it is only when the card is inserted in the S3 that I have trouble writing to it.

Yeah, sandisk admitted that some of their cards were faulty.
You can try reformatting your sdcard to see if that fixes it (copy everything that you need to your computer). If not, i would try to file a claim with sandisk.

Hey, I also have been getting the same issue. It seems that the more I flash or reflash a new rom, the more I keep getting my sd card read as damaged or it doesn't even mount. It also happens a lot when I do a Hot Boot, and also when I reboot into my TWRP recovery, and my sd card won't mount in recovery, and if do a full wipe before install, then I end up with no files since internal sd gets wiped, so I store all my roms and zips on ext sd and if it doesn't mount or read I'm stuck with a full wipe and nothing to flash. It used to happen once in a while like once or twice a month, but like a mentioned, it gets worse and worse with every flash, and not it happens almost evey time, especially, I am not sure if its all the roms or just some of them, but when my screen times out and goes to sleep, after I wake it, it will rescan sd card, and its a hit or miss, sometimes it scans and all is good, and sometimes is scans and says either sd card damaged or sd card not mounted. And only pulling battery and rebooting gets it to work again!
Unfortunately, I don't know why, I thought maybe it's my sd card because I bought a 2 pack of 32gb each and when I had my first Note 2 N7100 my first 32gb also started not reading properly and then with a few weeks of use it just stopped working and I lost all my data and it no longer reads at all, not in phone nor pc.
So when I started having this issue with my second sd card, now that I have my second Note 2 SPH L900, I thought it was that the sd cards were faulty, but since you have similar issues, maybe it's the phone, or the roms...? If you find a fix please PM me and let me know.
Thanks

Hmm, I was thinking it might be my SD card too. It's a lexar 32gb class 10. Might change it to a different one and see if it's the issue.
Since no one is responding with over 400 views on this thread, I'm assuming it might just be a faulty SD card in both our cases. Since I'm usually using popular roms and it seemed to happened to any rom I use from what I can tell (or remember) . Will definitely let you know.

Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
The rom I used were JellyBomb v16, 18, & 19; Lab Rats v2.3 & 2.4.5; CM10.1 Nightlies, Carbon Rom Nightlies, Swamp Monstah v2.2; Back To Goodness, and I think some other one I can't think of. I was thinking at first maybe it is a kernel problem because yesterday after I flash the Saber v25 kernel it completely killed my SD that not even my pc reads it anymore! But then I have noticed that it seems that everyone using a 32GB sd card despite the manufacturer has had this issue so maybe its just something with 32GB sd cards. But then I also googled the issue and people using Samsung Galaxy S3 and S4 are having same issues after flashing roms, so it might be a Samsung issue, though I don't recall having this issue with my last phone, the Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G, and when I sent SanDisk a heated message since in the last 4 months I have had both the 32 GB Class 4 SanDisk Micro SD Cards that I bought in a pack die completely losing all my data, I noticed in the FAQs that they claim its a bug with Android 4.x OS thats causing sd cards to die, but I've had several 8GB ones that I've used from Android 2.x all the way to 4.2.2 and they have been completely fine!
So I personally am as stumped as all of you, and would like some sort of definitive explanation before I end up losing another sd card!
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
Thanks for that post. Can you let me know, for how long should I place my sd card on something around 100°? I really don't want to damage the out of card because I emailed Sandisk and they might replace my card if I still have warranty, so it would suck if they agree to, but then decline because they found out I melted the card or something, but same time I really need to get the data off of it...

In my Galaxy S4 mini's whole lifetime only twice has a micro sim been inserted. The first time I inserted a SIM card inside there, it worked immediatelly without any problems as soon as I powered on the phone (the sim card was cut from a normal one manually by me).
Then I left the phone unused without a SIM inside it for about 2 weeks and just today I tried to put back the same SIM card and the phone always displays "No SIM". Tried taking it on and off like a thousand times but still no effect.
The card is working on another phone but with an adapter as I don't have another phone that uses only Micro-SIM so I can't really test.
Any ideas?
EDIT:
Here is an image of what the SIM looks like and how it is inserted. I would greatly appreciate if someone from here checks the exact form and placement of theirs and compare it to this image:

Problem is, all of my friends use normal SIM.
I just watched a video how a person types a hidden code into the dialer which takes him to an advanced service mode and from there after choosing some options, the "No SIM" error immediatelly disappears even without the need of a reboot. I believe he reset the modem or something.
I thought it was a firmware related issue but that might not be the case also as I flashed two different firmwares (both for my region) with Odin and it's still the same.
Is it normal that the center pin is a bit down than the left and right one?
There was previously a user who broke one of the sim card reader clips. It could be possible?

Yep it turned out that was the case, no firmware issues or anything of the sort. Luckaly mine wasn't actually broken but it just somehow went into the bottom too much. I used a small needle and tweaked it a bit hoping to push it back up and achieved it without breaking it.
Now it reads my cut Micro SIM just fine. :victory:

I've just had the same problem on my mom's S4 mini: central pin lower than the other two. Bending it up a bit solved the problem.
In fact on other S4 minis the three pins are level.

I saw some photos of the G3 without the back on a Tmo version. The article mentioned that as a micro sd, but the card in the slot was Tmo branded and looked more like a sim card (there was no other slot). The last model did not have a micro sd slot for most regions, so would seem a surprise if this had one.
Not seen an LG spec mentioning a micro sd slot for specific regions.

Pretty sure the SD card and SIM will be "stacked", like in the S5. The SIM on bottom and the SD on top, less area taken up this way.
