[Q] Proximity sensor broken? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
I've got a quite big problem...
I don't know exactly when, but I suspect after I replaced my broken digitizer by a new one, that my proximity sensor broke. At first it was only broken partly, and I could still answer calls if someone called me, BUT now I can't.
I've recently (yesterday ) installed MIUI-Xj on my desire, and when I dialled *#*#MIUI#*#*, there was a test for all the hardware. I thought, let's have some fun, and run this test. All went ok till the proximity sensor test. It showed a status of 1.00 (0.00 being lowest, when the sensor should be covered), and didn't change when I covered it, nor when I moved it next to a lamp. After I googled around a bit, I thought there might be some dust in/in front of the proximity sensor, so I opened up my desire, and vacuĆ¼m cleaned it. After this, I ran the same test again, and it returned 0.00!
This is really annoying, because when I get a call, the phone assumes I'm holding my phone against my ear, so the screen goes black. This way, I can't answer the call! Pressing the buttons doesn't work either
Is there some sort of way I can get my sensor to work again? or can I buy a replacement somewhere?
Kaico

yeah mate, sent it back to HTC, they repair it
off cource yif you -off you need to flash downgrader and run appropriate RUU 2.2froyo to return S-ON
and sent your phone to repair center with full desciprion of your problem

I don't think they'll repair it, at least not for free... (replaced the digitizer myself, and they probably notice )
So I'm thinking of buying a camera PCB off ebay, so I can place it myself (like I did with the digitizer). Just mailed them to ask if the proximity sensor is on it, because it was the flex cable and camera pcb...

Proximity Sensor busted?

i just wanna ask if my proximity sensor is messed up, i dropped it a few weeks ago and it hit the top part(Screen) part of the phone because i was texting with the KB out, well anyways i made calls involving using the headset, well i noticed when i leave my phone sitting there the screen like blinks off and on every couple of seconds and theres nothing blocking the sensor, itll just do it randomly, the sensor still turns off the screen when i put it next to my face or when i put my hand over the screen, but my question is, after i dropped my phone and that even happened, is my sensor messed up?
sounds like you're right, the proximity sensor might be a little off whack depending on how hard you dropped the phone, I think that the sensor is soldered onto the phone, so it couldnt be a loose flex cable, but I am also not an expert on rhodium hardware, so i would suggest looking online at the rhodium hardware layout to see if you could possibly fix it

well i mean tbh, when i just make initial short call it doesnt happen, it only happens when i get into long calls, which is a bit odd, like i said the proximity still senses my face or hand when i block it........
that is quite strange, but you said that this has only started since you started the phone?

need help - touchscreen fix

noticed that my touchscreen is becoming unresponsive lately so i thought that changing the multitouch might solve it. the thing is, after selecting 4 touch, touchscreen becomes totally unresponsive. i tried wipe and even flashing stock os but touchscreen is still the same.
did i screw up my touch screen? how will i know? any known repairs or fix.
thanks
Sounds like your digitalizer (the glass above the screen) is busted and needs replacement. If your phone is under warranty, claim it, if not - get a new digitalizer and if you can't change it yourself, take it to a repair shop.
Changed the digitizer but still no response
Got a headache? It's all in your head!!!
switch ROM
You said that you flashed back to stock, but how about flashing to another ROM, I mean one that has a completly diferent multitouch enabler... that might work.

i was able to flash stock and it means i have no root nor recovery. and adb debugging is not enabled. i am out of ideas how i will be able to solve this.
After flashing stock ROM do you face the same issue with a new Digitizer?
yes. doesnt respond to anything except volume and power. even the 4 touch buttons doesn't work. i was thinking that i have received a bad digitizer or it is a motherboard issue. with the latter i have no idea how to check

I had recently taken my Defy to a service center. I just wanted to change the earpiece and the side casing. While replacing the side casing (while removing the Digitizer) they damaged the digitizer. The main touch portion was working but the 4 soft keys were not. They replaced the digitizer and everything was fine again (had to pay for it )
If you can carefully handle the phone, you can open up the casing and try reconnecting the digitizer to the board. (Do not remove the digitizer from the casing only reconnect the cable).
Replacement is better done by a service center as it requires careful handing.
I did open the phone, removed and reconnected the cable, still the same. also tried 2 new digitizer still the same result. I guess it us the mother board . Any ideas where to get replacement board ?
Thanks
Got a headache? It's all in your head!!!
i have got the same problem like you and i have solved it.
Do compass calibration like spin the phone 3 times in flat condition (laying down face up), then have the phone standing up and rotate 3 times, then on one side, rotate 3 times and then move your defy in the shape of number "8" in the air. Re-open the screen. it is suppose to bring back your screen work like it was nothing happened.
only for my defy i've tried never did this for another but from what i see you have nothing to lose here
Tried the calibrating thing and also a new digitizer. doesn't work. So it is the motherboard.
Anyone knows where to get mother board
Got a headache? It's all in your head!!!
Getting a new board is like getting a new phone - new IMEI, price for the board should be very similar to the pricw for a new phone too. If you think about it, it IS the phone. What's there in the phone other than the board a screen and a digitizer...
Guess you're right.

[Q] htc one x problems after screen repair

hi, have searched and searched on the forum but no real answer to my problem.
i dropped my htc one x and the glass cracked, so i sent it away to a supposed reputable firm (i didnt realise htc repaired phones aswell otherwise i would have sent it there)
anyway the lcd display and brightness worked perfectly, the company have replaced the screen and now the backlight no longer works and flickers when touched or cpu is being used.
they have said it is the display IC, and coil etc,
they say that this was caused by the phone being dropped, and not by them and they have charged me (they take payment before sending phone back), they initially took the phone back, and 3 weeks later they have decided to wash there hands of it, have put the phone back together shodily tell me i have to put up with the phone as it is, and refuse me a refund.
they acknowledge that the ic was fine before they took it apart, but blame it on the nature of the phone design as to why it now doesn't work.
i would post link to another forum explainingg the possible issue (has no explanation of cause though) and pics of the phone has been returned to me, but i can't because im a noob
Basicly the question is,
Who is at fault?
And how could the ic get shorted out,
The backlight flickering is likely to be poor installation of the new screen.
Again this is an old example I'm referring to here. I used to replace the screens on the Nokia n95 quite regularly.
You get the screen assembly and the ribbon cable which attached to the motherboard.
If the ribbon cable was not seated 100% perfectly I would get the exact same symptoms you are describing.
No backlight. Pressing down on the screen would either get it to flicker or come on for a while.
It shows a poor connection. I took the screen back out and repositioned the cable back in. Reassembled and then it was fine after
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app

Hi mate did you managed to get this sorted I am having the exact trouble same issue with a company call Elite Phones and Computers.
They are saying that the IC shorted out and the only repair would have to be a replacement board.

Which sensors? Proximity? Light?
Ive bought some cheap knock off screens to repair my own phone and all the sensors are on the replacement piece. They must have missed a connector or given you a bad part.
On the knock-offs, i had a proximity sensor not work and the light sensors are not that great.

light sensor, proximity sensor,G-sensor(which causes motion launch),camera flashlight all are not working when htc service center changed my phone's display.
are the sensors available only on the display part?, then they replaced display with fake one nd took money about 8500 INR
they are giving me **** reasons that phone was rooted, i told them there is no relation between display, sensors and ROOT.. i have lodged case against them will see what happens, HTC services in india are very very bad..
Yeah, probably a knock off screen. The screens would cost me about $65usd. If the touch digitizer (the top glass) edges start popping up around the bottom edge, then it's definitely a knock-off screen because all of mine did that. Crazy glue helped with that.
I've never heard of a HTC service center that you can take your phone to. Usually you mail it to HTC.
The phone isn't very easy to take apart if you've never done it before. You must disassemble everything to replace the screen. You can google a youtube video to see how it's done. Not easy for a first timer.
My guess is they messed up or missed connections. I can't remember, but I don't think there is a separate connector for flash, so for the camera to work, but not the flash, is odd.
It is possible for you to disable some sensors with root, but not accidentally. You'd have to manually disable.
I'm not too sure where the g sensor is on the phone.

thanks for your reply, let forget the flashlight but what about light, proximity and G-sensor, even i had htc desire (old one) rooted from 6 years no sensor problem till
and this flagship phone one m8 giving problems :v
the Display material description is "FRU-SUB ASSY, LG DISPLAY,BLACK,LCD" which costs me for 8.5k i.e ($127.877) , even the phone i gave to htc service center which is authorised by HTC, i didnt tweaked phone it was S-ON, i didn't opened phone lol, i just told them to change display but now things are messed up, i did complaint and they took my phone for revision from last 2 weeks ,no phone calls from them nothing, all they telling are bull**** reasons and causes
can you please tell me where G-sensor is by searching or asking someone
even didnt tweaked any hardware part of my phone, the firmware was of HTC in my one m8 , what should be the problem ,? they really messed up with my phone.....i told them that i need replacement of phone(like apple do) , they are contradicting their statements too, they told me to change motherboard which costs around $245. what the hell
due to such poor service in india HTC need to improve their services or people will stop purchasing HTC in india
If they are authorized, call HTC directly. They can probably step in to help you

nope they dont know anything, they are technically illiterate man, i have called them thrice, they are telling that go to fastboot nd factory reset it, they are noob people,
i have lodged case against htc center, will see what happens tomorrow, they are not listening, its not time to talk and request them , its time to take action against them...
i actually fade up from 2-3 weeks for this phone, thanks for helping though
Hey man were you able to fix that problem? My phone has the same problem (sensors and flash) after I got the battery replaced. Funny thing is that they're also saying it's because of root ( of course it's not )

Hello folks, i think i solved this issue ... i have a htc m8, just like all of you .. I had a extra battery so i was like. okay its time to replace this one and use this "new" battery i have for this phone. I saw so many videos on internet about tearing it down ( i had exp opening stuff before) I did it without problems actually. When i finished, i found myself with no sensors at all... none of them .. after some hours of digging. I noticed that this problem came along "display replacement, and battery replacement" .. later i found that all the sensors are in the display itself.. Then i opened it again and swaped the old battery and make sure i did connect everything. When I finished, i find myself with the same problem.. and a new one.. my screen was blinking rapidly ... i was like, rlly bro ... so i opened it again for third time.. and this time i saw something i ignored before... every ribbon was protected with a special tape, which is metalic like in the upside, they lost its glue and became loose, so i glued with a soft glue them back in place, for what i know, they do a job, something with faraday cage .. after i secured every "Tape" of this... i closed back my phone and TADAHH... i recovered almost every sensor xD ... my gyroscope is kinda weird. takes sometime to respond.. but i will leave it like that. most important for me was the light sensor and proximity sensor which are working perfectly ... well guys, that was my experience with this phone.. for those who are brave enough to open this challenger phone.. pay attention to these details i said before, and maybe you will get your sensors back.... thanks for your time.. i just made an account to help with this issue

[COS13]Proximity sensor not working

i have a oneplus 8 pro that was running on OOS 11 like magic
then update it to COS 12 and the proximity sensor stopped working
yesterday COS 13 came and i thought it would fix the problem but no, the problem still there.
any fix for the proximity sensor one COS 13 please.
Mine is also not working at all since oos12. Im completely stock on oos13 now.
Sensor doesnt react at all.
Hi,
mine too stopped working a few days ago.
Im on OOS13 (eu) but it worked the hole time, suddently it stopped working, without any changes to the system.
I did a proximity sensor test (dialpad : #*899# ) and it does not react at all.
PS : Can anyone tell me where the sensor is located on the phone i cant find it.
riding the same boat
I tried to reset it with "Proximity Sensor Reset" app, but it didnt work so I think its a hardware problem...
Fortunately the hardware piece costs about 5-10 bucks, unfortunately phones today are so glued that I dont wanna hassle to open it just because of the little sensor..
Edit: I found out where the sensor is located somewhere in the right corner,
yesterday I coincidentally noticed that it sometime works when the top right corner comes in contact with my pants or any other fabric.
When I try it with my hands or head it doesn't react at all...

I was going to tell you that, I accidently discovered that proximity sensor is kind of working when in contact with my hoodie that is covering my ears.
but when phone is directly touching the skin it wont work.
Same here. I bought a used one in very good condition and figured out that the phone does not switch off the screen during calls. I can run the diagnostics and see that the sensor works properly when I use some fabric on it but has absolutely no effect when using the hand or the ear.
I wonder how that can be and if it's really an issue with the OS version or a hardware issue.
Also same here. Proximity sensor problems after oos13 update. Has anyone tried custom roms if problem are still occuring on those too?
