I was wondering if anyone knows how to safely completely remove the HTC HUB application from a ROM? I am using Baadnewz's "[ROM][01/08][STABLE][Sense2.1+3.0 GB]InsertCoin CM7 HBOOT/STOCK 1.0.9" and I usually get rid the unnecessary .apk files before flashing the rom by extracting the rom and deleting them and then packing them again into a flashable .zip. For HTC HUB I deleted MyHTC.apk and HtcHubSyncProvider.apk. After flashing the ROM everything works super smooth [gotta love Baadnewz], except for the fact that I still have the annoying HTC HUB app icon in the app drawer. Nothing happens when I tap on the icon, except that I get a white screen for a fraction of a second and then get sent back to the app drawer.
Can anybody tell me where I'm going wrong?
Am I deleting the wrong .apk files?
Or is there a way to simply remove the HTC HUB icon from the app drawer?
Thanks in advance.
You can remove system apps while booted up if you are S-OFF, using SystemAppRemover.

Anyone has the official appname listed for this one? I'm wondering too.
Thank you k3lcior
But is it not possible to remove HTC HUB completely before flasing the ROM from the ROM.zip file, as it is of no use to me whatsoever.
I am a S-ON
I know it's not ideal but I did the same as you (deleted as many apks as possible) before flashing and then froze Htc hub to get rid of the icon. I used AntTek app manager to freeze it.

has anyone got it working on the desire yet? i have been digging a little around, extracting the stock one, modding the Desire HD one, but nothing... it won't show in the "Inputmethod" dialog.
i have attached the HTC_IME.apk from the Desire hd, this is taken from Ownshere's port could you guys try and work your magic with it
EDIT: and i would just like to give a shout to the team that got the S-off working, so helpful in things like this
Settings > Keyboards then tick the box for it
But how did you even install it? Lol it has the same name as the stock one so cannot install it for me

i tried to delete the HTC_IME.apk, i tried to uninstall the original but that did not work and finally i tried to edit the xml files in the HD one, that did not work either :/
EDIT: Just tried editing it even more... now it can't install, it kicks my phone into a hot restart, then and adb just stops installing :/
Edit2: Creating a update.zip with the one directly extracted from the Desire HD rom, didn't work, nothing showing :/
Edit3: tried a update.zip with my own fail mod. I had to restore backsmali does not seem to decompile right...
I can install it ok using ROM manager, via clockworkmod
but it doesn't show in keyboard settings. I've used the keyboard on the Desire HD Rom, and the big improvement is the addition of cursor direction keys. Would nice to get this running on a more reliable Rom.

up? I'd love it on gingerbread!
I accidentally erased Facebook for HTC Sense. Now i can't sync my contacts with Facebook. I'm rooted with unrEvoked, and i guess i have stock kernel. Any suggestions how to download this again? Is there something better for syncing with Facebook.
Thanks
Go to the regular facebook page from your browser and there will be a link at the bottom of the facebook page to download to your Evo.
Stealthl: thanks, but that only downloads the one in Android Market. I need the one that came with the phone, so I can sync with my contacts. Anyone have that ROM for downloading?

uhh... they're the same app? Many roms I flash don't come with Facebook at all. I download it from the market, log in, and it gives me the option to sync contacts.
I also would love to get this, since made the same mistake. Side note they are not the same.
Extract it from the Rom your using (zip) and push it into your system it re-flash the Rom.

That seems to be the app from the market right.
The app we're looking for is the one that comes on the evo from sprint. It is called HTC Facebook for Sense.
I am having the same issue where I deleted the HTC Facebook app thinking it was the same as the market FB app when apparently it is now. And now my contact list will not synch with Facebook.
I also tried to create a facebook account under "accounts and synch" but it didn't work presumably because I no longer have HTC Facebook installed.
This is what comes on the phone.
They are not the same. That being said... the one in the market is definitely better. The only down side is it wont sync your facebook calendar. (if that matters to you) It SHOULD do contacts. What you have to do is go to the home screen, then choose menu, settings, sync contacts, then choose the appropriate choice. Note: it doesnt open to the home screen.
If you still couldn't get the Android Market Facebook work with syncing your contacts, or if you still just want the HTCFacebook.apk, then here it is. You need to copy it to /system/app, using Root Explorer, or use adb to push it to system/app. It won't work if you try to install it like a regular app.
Edit: I just noticed that the OP was from mid November!!! HAHAHA

I would really just suggest the one from the market... or reinstalling the rom (no need to wipe if its the same rom, just clear both catches.

Once you copy and paste it into system /app, long press htcfacebook.apk. choose permissions. Be sure that the top rows of the first two columns are checked.

A friend of me has a Desire HD with the App Transfer Data from HTC.

Is there a apk for this app somewhere?

You can't install it, you need to copy to system and fix permissions on it via ROOT explorer.
here is how i did,
transfered contacts from wm 6.5 to android using outlook
and transfered all sms using

Newer version
The old version here cannot receive the picture associated with the contact. I have attached the newer version that comes with HTC Sensation. I got it from the file "Stock Apps+ODEX.zip" at this thread: [APPS] T-Mobile Stock Apps & Stock Apps+ODEX Files
Also you may want to sign the application first. Then check the above replay by @maniacscorpio.

Running a Unrooted Galaxy S3 LTE. The app installs fine, I get a black screen for a few seconds, then it says "Unfortunately, Transfer has stopped."
Do I need root access?
Hey,
is there
any possibility to change bootanimation via root explorer? I wanted to put it in sysetem/media but there was a notice that I have no permissions for that.
I also wanted to use SDK Manager but when I installed it the Manager doesn't run. Just pops up the black window and immediately closes up.
Any suggestion for a dummy like me?
It's possible and very easy. You need to go into Root Manager's setting and allow it to have R/O access. Once that's done you can then navigate to /Data/local and place your bootanimation.zip in there.
Ok, thanks. I'll check it out.
And I was wondering with one more thing. If HTC app "People" can be used e.g. in CM7 ROM. I noticed several times that the answer was "no" in the forum. But, there is now possibility to backup it in Sense ROM with Titanium and then restore it on CM7 ROM?
Thanks
I have no idea about that. I've always known Sense based apps to need Sense UI to run.
Still no, no sense apps on aosp roms.

The reason why I ask is that I managed to backup News & Weather app from Sense and then restore it on CM7 and it works! but I do not have People app to try it out and I very miss this great app.
News and weather app is a android app not Sense. And it's included in CM7 anyway. Answer is still NO.
Hi every one.
I am new here. So I'm writing with all the details I can think of.
I'm using HTC desire x jelly bean in India. I've temp rooted the device. Now I run with a twrp touch screen edition revovery. I run the stock version (with odex) Rom. The only changes I made is removal of some bloatware.
The main reason I've rooted my device is to save space by pushing non movable and frequently used apps to system/app .
Since I only have temp root, The way I'm making user apps as system app is as follows
1. creating a backup Apk file either by manually copying from data/app or by clean master.
2 uninstall the app.
3 after entering the twrp recovery, I move the Apk files to system/app ( I don't create any odex files for the moved app)
4 reboot after wiping dalvik & cache.
Its a working method. But my problem is that several apps both that I frequently uses and high size are cannot converted into system apps. After making such apps as system apps, when I try to open them it force closes, crashes, or misbehaving (eg. Shows No internet connectivity even if I'm connected to web). I tried odexing the user Apk. But it not seems to be the problem. I like to know
1 why is this happening.
2 can I identify such apps before moving it to the /system/app
3 how/can I solve this isue ( I don't own a pc).
4 I am writing a list of apps that I've already tried and failed to convert as system apps. If there is no general methods can you suggest methods for the following apps
Quick pick
Mx player
BS player
Chrome
Adobe reader
Google plus
Opera mini
Opera
Google Maps
RAR
Mozilla Firefox
Freecharge
Advance download manager
Google search
Dolphin browser Jetpack
Chess free
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. I forgot to mention on my post that I run chmod_66 from recovery. I think that fixes the permission issues. Also I tried "fix permissions", but really don't know what it does.
Like I mentioned before I am a temp root user. Can't mess around with my ROM when the OS is up. The only option I have is the TWRP recovery.

I have temp root. The main thing I am sticking with it because I saw, when I set s-off the handset vibrates 7 times at start up, and there is no proper guide to set the s back on. I looked to permanent root my device because I want to merge the in built memory and app storage partition. But I'm not an expert in this area and need to play it safe. I didn't satisfied with any guide for turning security on again after s-off.
I can get my hands on to my friends pc on some holidays too. But I would prefer not using a pc if I can do the same with my handset.
My handset is
HTC desire x running jelly bean
With temp root and TWRP touch version for jb
Also run odexed stock Rom
Any one has s-off version of the same device as mine and can run any of the apps I listed in the question?

My device is an HTC handset
It has a unique feature that even after you unlock your bootloader and flash super user (which I did) it will be in still s-on mode. S stands for security I think. With s-on you can have root access, but can't alter your Rom while you are running your OS. That's why I'm using my custom recovery all the time. Doing an s-off comes with some bug that the device will vibrate 7 or 10 Times while I an booting. And removing the super user app won't do any good. You need to turn s back on for its to stop. And I don't have a clear picture about the "turning s back on" procedure.
And I think I can do almost everything with my temporary root. And moving Apk files to /system/app and giving it read write permission is very much possible with my recovery.
If you alter the Rom while running your OS with temp root, the device will restart and the changes that you made to the Rom will be disappear. So the instructions you are giving me is not going to work for me.

OK try system app installer which directly install the app to you system app and don't try to convert user app to system app because sometimes(some apps) its crashing so,I recommended you install app directly to your system

having full permanent root and moving your files while in your phones OS with superuser root permissions is the ***EASIEST*** way, what im telling you works on just about every android device, if not ALL of them, you are going around your ass for no reason, you haven't had any luck with the way you are trying, the way I told you WORKS without a doubt so what is your problem? its simple, full root, move what you want to move, unroot, then go back to your temp root setup and you'll be where you want to be,I'm done, you've been given advice on how to do it but you are a closed minded person that is looking for the answer that you WANT to hear instead of the answer that exists.

I can convert user apps to system apps without any help alright. You are just telling me to do what I've been doing. Its not an answer to my question. And incase you don't know what s-off and s-on is, you probably shouldn't understand what I am really asking. I don't want any help with converting user apps as system apps.
I assume that you have permanent root device. Please try to make the apps I have mentioned as system apps and write back if its working for you. Try mx player and terminal emulator first. And write back with your experience

I'm trying to tell you that your difficulty is coming from using temp root instead of full root, if you fully rooted your device then there would be no more s off or s on because that is a function of temp root, full root does NOT have that restriction, fully root your device and you will be able to do it, I realize you have the s-off and s-on and that the problem you are having is that you can't remember how to turn it of or on, if you were to become a full root user instead of a temp root user and got used to it then you'd see that it performs MUCH easier and isn't limited and you stop being a temp root user because if you can run then why wrap a rope around your ankles? Android is much easier and multi functional when it is a rooted device and is not limited in any way.
