ive had my evo for about a week now and ive been getting 10 to 13 hours of battery life at 10 hours im usually at 30% but anyway i was wondering was that natural because ive seen some ppl complain about battery life

It all depends on how much you use your phone and what apps you use to try and extend battery life
Deck's + SZ + SuperCharger script + ViperMod script.
My roomate gets about 14-16 hours of good use out of his. Only thing really turned off besides no widgets is GPS. Texts atleast 100 a day, Internet, XDA, facebook a few calls. Stock also. My Nexus I get around 20-22 hours with everything on, maybe 100 text, XDA, Internet, no widgets.
So yes it does happen.

well when i got 10 hours i was stock no apps to help improve battery had my home screen full od widgets and live wallpaper
Thats normal for a non rooted phone.
that is my favorite screenshot ever
10 hours is good enough, I generally go wake to bed and charge at night which is around 15-16 hours with moderate use.
Thats normal...I got en extended battery because I use my phone a lot during the day. Now waiting on my otterbox defender to see if somehow I can make it fit with the extended battery
I usually average 1day 12hrs on my phone, I recently hit 3 days, and I was like

I have a friend there...I'll contract him out for some gummies.
But hopefully it works for you. Also, calibrate the battery after switching roms the first time [if you try it]:
-Charge evo to 100%
-Boot into recovery, wipe battery stats
-Let the evo die [so that it manually turns off]
-Charge back to 100%, then use as normal
got the calibration down, always have 3.3.7 sbc, but I can't underclock adw at all. On my phone I need to overclock to 1113 on interactive governor to get the lag out of the app drawer. trying vipermod tonight... tell your friend to stay put until I get a couple days out of this

I don't know if you'd be fine with switching launchers, but this is exactly why I refused to use ADW. Launcher Pro is close enough to being the same as ADW with zero lag. I was buttery smooth with zero lag while UNDERclocking at 768mhz when I ran launcher pro with salvagemod. Interactive governor as well. Try it out!

Fair enough. Also, I use the smartass governor and launcher pro, and I get zero lag; its worth a try.
I get about 3 hours, sometimes more. It's a recent development. Don't know why. Deck's ROM with included kernel. Haven't tried ViperBoy's scripts. I can watch the battery stats tumble. I even properly calibrated it. Good times!

GPS is a real battery killer, or at least it seems like it to me. Makes a big difference turning it off when i don't use it (90% of the time). Only thing i really miss out on is my weather location changing but it's a small price to pay

something is up with that. you either have a really bum battery or have some wake lock issues. Are you restoring anything with Titanium Backup?
Good times indeed, maybe try a different ROM or at least a different kernel
I only have Wifi and 3G on. GPS I rarely use because I usually know where I'm going.
My wakelocks are all pretty low so far. Maybe 46 seconds.
Last week, I was getting 14 hours of battery life. Could it be the new Google Apps?

I put the leaked 2.2 update onto my phone and it has been great. I have only had one issue with it thus far. Starting yesterday my battery life plummeted drastically out of the blue. It seems like it came out of thin air. There is no water damage or anything. I am avoiding doing a data reset. Does any one have any other suggestions?
Is your phone staying constantly awake? Is there an App causing it stay running? Are all of your apps up to date?
I've been on a 2.2 ROM for over a month and I have great battery life, even with my overclocked kernel.

I use Advanced Task Killer and my phone goes to sleep after 1 min. 2.2 Worked perfect with great bettery life for about 2 weeks. But last night everything went downhill. It maybe an App i downloaded? but i looked in my apps and things seemed to look normal.
Do you have the task killer automatically set to kill after a certain amount of time? If you do you may be killing processes only to have them be restarted right away by android system, then killed again, restarts...and so on. That will kill your battery like crazy! To be honest, try going 24 hours without your task killer and see what happens, I noticed an improvement. The way android manages it's processes there is no need for a 3rd party task killer. Also try the KingzKernel's they are fantastic with battery life.
Why Task Killers are not needed.http://geekfor.me/faq/you-shouldnt-be-using-a-task-killer-with-android/

I'm having the exact same issue. I just flashed SkyRaider 2.5.2 the other night and Radio 2.15.
The problem I'm having is that my charge is taking almost 4-5 hours to charge when it use to only take a couple hours. Also, my battery is draining QUICK.
I just clocked it and I went from 100% battery after a 12-hour charge to 93% in about five minutes.
PLEASE, someone help with this issue.
I never had any issues with the original 7/28 leak (or whatever the date was), and once having the bugs worked out, never bothered with the 8/1 leak. I did the 8/26 leak as soon as it came out and was plagued with charge times exceeding my 7-hour per day sleep schedule, and battery life that would drop drastically with the screen off. I literally went from 40% to 5% in a matter of two hours with my phone sitting on my desk, screen off. I used nandroid restore to go back to the 7/28 leak i had backed up. I'm not sure where the bug is, but I hope Verizon/HTC release this update soon, so the OTHER 95% of Incredible owners can start *****ing too. Then maybe something will get done.
I tried bump charging this morning and it made no difference whatsoever. Withing 2 hours I'm at 35%. No Facebook syncing or really anything syncing for that matter... Just a crappy battery issue. Tried different Kernels and no difference which leads me to believe it may be Froyo or the Rom I'm using which is the virtuous Rom but that doesn't make sense....
I'm surprised this has not been addressed on a much larger scale within the XDA community. There is no way anyone could enjoy their Dinc with that much battery drain.
I am using the 3500 mAh battery and with stock phone and no root I was able to charge my phone in about an hour and could get nearly 2 days with heavy usage. Now I'm not sure I can even get 12 hours, but I haven't fully tested that theory yet.
My plan today is to do a full charge (Which will be done in a matter of minutes) and then I am going to do some clocking to see exactly how long it takes to discharge.
Regardless, why is this not a major concern in the community? I only see a few posts relating to it.
Ok, so I think this has been brought up before.
When my phone is at a complete IDLE (89%), my CPU is rocking out at 900+MHz.... I think this is what is causing my severe battery drain. Can any developers respond to this or can someone else advise? My sister who uses her stock phone with no root, etc is idling between 245MHz and 320MHz.
My battery is dropping way to quick and this has to be the answer. Please help. Thanks!

Thing is...
If you're on this forum, you're probably a constant tweeker. The so called "battery issue" is all over the place depending on who you talk to. I wrote "Making Your Droid's Battery Incredible" over at my website, but essentially you need to figure this out yourself. Battery usage depends on so many things like the programs you run, the kernel you're using, and the battery you have (and the condition of said battery). If there were a uniform problem, it would be much easier to identify.
Oh, and if you're humming along at 900mhz while idle, try SetCPU.
Are you guys with GREAT battery using any Widgets, CPU Overclocking Apps, etc.? I'm trying to figure out how my EF02 battery life is so horrible (in 3 hours, I went from 70% to >10%). I love the stability of EF02 and Netflix, but I cannot stay on EF02 if my battery needs charge three times a day.

I just did CPU spy and it says I'm in 1000 Mhz 34% of the time. Why on earth is my phone running so quick?! It's draining my battery so fast lol. If you're using setCPU or CPU Master, let me know which governor you're using.
Mine runs fine on Deodexed EF02 w/ EF02 modem.
Have at least one widget on every page (out of 5 pages)
Killed all my services, using ADW launcher
That's pretty much it. No Juice Defender or no CPU changes or anything.
If you're in absolute dead zone, that will kill your battery. Does it to mine on EF02 still. But not that bad. Maybe like 4% loss in 30 minutes in a dead zone (this includes a couple of calls and texts)
If nothing works, try calibrating your battery.

Im just running the leak straight up getting the best battery savings I've ever had. Have all the stock stuff running too. I tried every EF02 thing as it came out and last night I put the simply blue lock theme on and my device didn't like it so I odin back to EF02(no root) and its been getting really good mileage so I left stock to see and I have been unplugged for 23hrs and there's still some juice left don't know how much because I didn't DL any monitors or widgets

I have noticed that sometimes battery life after a flash or odin is terrible. It usually takes a day to sort out. At first I had around the same cpu usage as you with ef02. sometimes a restart every morning helps a bunch.

I have the stock EF02 running with the EF10 Modem. I got over 1 day on the stock battery with almost 2 and a half hours of screen on time. I have autostarts killing most everything at startup (frankly it is amazing how many things want to be running) I have gmail set to push, Words with Friends is set to 5 minutes. I have the screen set to the lowest setting and it was on wifi for most of the day. I charged it at 7% battery left because of a phone call...would have lasted longer. Also, it could have lasted longer but I left Words with Friends running. You would not think it would use much while idle, but my phone was pretty warm when I picked it up. As far as widgets... I have Beautiful Widgets Superclock and Battery, Google Search, and Google Docs. I am using Zeam Launcher and Live Wallpaper. I am not using any CPU program

As a rule, I avoid all but two widgets: my task killer (manual kill only), and power control. I don't really need Netflix with my HBO GO app... but then again I don't really even use that haha. Watching movies on a 4 inch screen doesn't do it, that's what tablets are for, kinda. Until they allow TV-out and super-boost the battery, I'm sticking with my customized Froyo rom. Depending on usage, I can rock up to 4 days.
Have you tried Voltage Control?
Edit: Apparently SetCPU has been updated, so if you're not on the latest version, you can check out the new one.
So I have never been able to get more than 4 hours on screen time. And I would like to get to the bottom of this. If you have any suggestions for me to add to this list that would help us get to the bottom of this fiasco please don't hesitate to post.

I don't have a screenshot right now to post but I get 5+ hours of display time. This is what I can tell you about my setup.
TNZ Blendz ROM ICS Version 2.5.3 EL26
Stock Repack EL26 kernel and radio
Using Tegrak to under volt -75 on internal -100 on core voltage -50 on GPU
I do mostly reading and tweaking on my phone. I play games here and there but when I do its games like Asphault and Dead Space. Depending on if I'm playing games alot I can get anywhere from 4-7 hours of display time.
Also as a side note I removed all of the screen state and voltage scripts from system/etc/init.d since I use Tegrak to do that for me and so there isnt any conflict.
Also forgot to include I normally stay at around 10% brightness unless I'm outside or in direct sunlight. I try to keep my screen turned down as much as possible.

Ive done a 3G radio test with screen off that died at 6.5 hours just to put against that question lol. Decent 3G usage will kill a phone long before a screen will unless I did it wrong. Epic amounts of playtime listening to music on phone maybe pretty good over wifi?
Ive yet to get this much screen time without killing the phone in the same amount of time. I cant say running Calkulin's has made any tremendous difference in my battery life given I keep the screen at 25% which is probably brighter than the auto brightness would after he modified it. Im just an abuser on everything else and normally I like my screen much brighter but can get away with less since I am mostly indoors.
This is my typical daily usage.
Probably about half and half is done on 3G and Wifi
Browse Tapatalk quite often
Read several articles on Google Currents "sync at least once a day"
Checking Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ often
Reading Reddit several times a day.
Emails
Texting, this is do alot of
Google Talk, again this is do alot of
Phone calls, not so much, maybe five calls a day.
Check market daily for updates, sometimes more depending on if apps are updated.
Sync all accounts in PageOnce at least once a day, sometimes more.
I'm sure I missed a few things but that's about the average daily use for me. I spend about 60% of my day on my phone. This thing is a lifeline for me and acts as a hub for my communications if that gives ya an idea of how I use it.
Edit. I will post a screenshot once the day is out. I've been flashing back and forth between CM7 and TNZ and now that I'm back on TNZ with a fresh setup I'm calibrating my battery. Once I get that done I will post some screenshots that may help you see my usages.

But seriously, the power the display uses is based on brightness and, I am pretty sure, on what color is being displayed. those are the only ways to "under volt" the display.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
It can be undervolted at the kernel level as Glitch used to do that with his kernel for the mesmerize/fascinate. It helped a little but not tremendously. And you see absolutely correct as it requires more power to display say white vs black. That's why black wallpapers and inverted apps on amoled displays will help battery. This is the opposite for LCD. I find though that inverted apps like on Reddit and tapatalk make me turn up the brightness at times to be able to see easily which of course counters the savings on power. So I don't use them like that. It all depends on how one uses the phone. What I consider light usage may be heavy to you and so on. Everyone will have different results. But one thing that will always stay common is the display will use more juice than anything else on the phone normally.
First I like to point out that this is my first android phone, coming from Apple. So I'm fairly new to this phone moding thing.
Well as the tittle suggest, my phone feels kinda hot after
installing Faux's kernel. I when to sleep with the phone at about 90%~ And 45 mins on battery. Woke up 5 hrs later with battery at 24% and 4h 30 mins until empty. I know that I need to give it time for the system to rebuilt a cache for me to see true battery savings like many of you are posting.
Is this a common thing when switching from a stock kernel? Or will the phone always feels hot?
It shouldn't be running hot nor be draining that much idle, i'm assuming you have a rogue app. Look at your battery stats, your phone should only be awake while the screen is on, unless listening to music or something. If the awake bar is solid across that's no good. Means the phone is not entering sleep mode. Ironically mine just did this today lol, it happens from time to time. Try a simple reboot and then let the phone sit idle and see if it sleeps via the battery menu in settings. If it is, then good your set. If not, get better battery stats from the play store and it will tell you exactly what is running and keeping your phone awake.
Edit: here's a pic of my battery stats today where something went rogue and kept the phone awake, notice the solid awake bar until I rebooted and then it functioned properly where only awake with screen n, and a bit with the screen of as I was streaming pandora. This is what you do NOT want your battery stats to look like. Like I said, if it does, try a simple reboot

Edit 2: the bottom of the phone will feel a bit warm when being used, especially with high brightness, gps, downloading, games etc. This is normal as the cpu is located there. If it's hot or warm while idle, that's not the norm.

Well I was on the Faux's kernel, with the High on Android ROM. I reset everything back to stock ROM / stock kernal, facotry reset and the phone no longer feels hot. But my Play store is not connecting(guess when I flash the gapps it'll come back).
The ktoonz kernel was the first one i tried but it felt kinda laggy and was the reason why I switch to Faux's. Now I'm looking for another ICS ROM that is not all crazy(I liked how simple the High on Android was), and I guess I'll give Ktoonz a try.
What app is good to use with the Ktoonz kernel? Battery manage wise I like the GSM battery mod. I downloaded Better battery status but it never showed me anything on the screen(even after 15mins) like GSM did.
I used to run fauxs and my phone would run hot.. After a month there were no new updates and figure he stopped development.
Went to kt and couldn't be happier. Can oc more, under volt more my phone couldn't be faster and never overhears unless I'm playing a game for a whole.
Kt also is actively developing with a new release every 5-10 days and he is very active in troubleshooting

Not only was my phone overheating, but the battery was also draining like crazy. In about 30 mins of the phone just being idle I lost about 6-8% of the battery life.
So I switched to The Ariel ROM and the Ktoonz kernel. So far no problems. Going to see how battery life is on the default kernel settings before messing around with voltage. All I have changed so far is the I/O, the governor, and the screen off max mhz to 486

Don't be afraid to overclock or undervolt it either.. Kts kernel is legit.

Using the 9-23 build, LTE disabled on Bell JB leak LI3 (only options are GSM only or WCDMA only... I've tried both, both get me 2Mbps speed when LTE gets me 30Mbps in Kingston)..... my phone drains faster than it charges on a USB port, or in a car, and takes ALL night to get to get 100%.
I unplug, eat breakfast, and I'm down to 86% this morning with a piping hot phone. I can feel it through my work uniform.
Lame.
Very lame. Bell won't help. Samsung won't help.
Bell: Disable LTE, its a known issue.
Samsung: It has to do with Bells LTE towers. It's your provider, contact them.
I'm getting extremely frustrated.

I get these types of problems constantly with my S2 (Bell, completely stock). Recently I installed CPU Spy from the play store and low and behold the phone is not going to deep sleep. Sometimes the processor will lock at 1.2Ghz and pretty much burn a hole in my pocket. A reboot fixes it, temporarily.
I advise you to install CPU spy (free) and check out what the processor is doing over time. Could be a app causing the phone to do this as well

Hi everyone, for a long time i see ppl claiming their phone last longer due to a custom kernel.
Normally i read they saying "i could never make my phone lasting with 2hs screen on or lasting for 2 days".
Anyway, its obviously that this will depend 100% what ppl do with their phone accordingly to apps, widgets, syncing, etc.
For me, normally i have around 3 and a half hour screen on and around 1 day and a half to 2 days.
I do use WiFi and 3G alot... browsing, gaming, texting, etc.
My point is that i belive ppl have a placebo effect. Custom kernel will give you faster response, OC ability and other advantages.
What do you guys say?
Attached are some screenshot from my 100% stock phone.

I just believe some of the little tweaks devs do to a custom kernel do make a difference.
I bag 4h30m on my gnex regularly.
Yea I totally agree that stock performs just as well in the battery life department. All I care about is having root.

Your battery life won't really get better than that. I really agree that there's often a placebo effect in switching roms/kernels, i only use a different kernel for color settings volume boost via Francos app. Stick with stock though I'd say, but of course it's always nice to try out kernels, despite the placebo effect.
Speaking of which though, I'm performing a real life test seeing which governors on my kernel work best for battery life. I simply switch then lol at my screen on time and see if it's improved, I'm assuming hotplugx will win, so we'll see. Interactive is still a great balanced on though.

It made a difference for me personally, because I wasn't getting very good battery life at all with the stock kernel. The other tweaks were also a pretty good bonus.
You're getting pretty great battery life as is though, I wouldn't worry too much about changing to a custom kernel if you're consistently getting numbers like those.
Thanks everybody for the feedback. I guess we are all at the same page.
Cheers

Thank you for not just asking "what is best Kernal"

Battery life or not but performance of the phone definitely improves with custom kernels... Asphalt 7 use to lag a bit on stock JRO03C but after trying Franco kernel Milestone 6 no lag or reboots whatsoever..
In fact I have a placebo that custom kernels reduce battery life
Worth it for the small performance improvements alone but I do get a little better battery life.
Even a few percent better is better than nothing when you sit in a building with poor reception and your battery takes a hit from your phone having a low signal

Somehow i think the same! All my attemps with custom kernels drove me to less juice... but a hell of fastness..

Personally, I run trinity...
Mostly for it's colors but I did seem to go from 1 day to 2 days without charging after the switch (placebo...?)
My battery suddenly dropped from 15% to 0% on Milestone 6... Now I'm back on stock custom kernels are like 3rd party engine mods on a car..
I say Franco...

What mods have you done to your phone? I am running aokp build 4 with Franco kernel milestone 6 and I'm starting to see some good numbers too.

3+ hours screen on time, 12+ hours standby. I didn't think it was possible, my battery bad been draining pretty quickly. I think the key this time was that I was on WiFi all day.

no sync because i don't have the data to go syncing the whole day, auto brightness, 3g outside, wifi at home. Web browsing only, i don't play games on my phone, it's reserved for my computer.
Stock kernel, stock ROM. Turn off auto sync unless you are connected to a wifi hotspot. This will give you 3 hours screen on time and 12+ hours uptime. I have 3 email accounts set up, but they do not sync automatically. I manually check my email in the am, at lunch, and evening.
Stock kernel, unless you can't help but obsess about making your phone "fast". If you want fast, go into Development Options within Settings and turn off all animations, then install a launcher like Nova and turn animations to "faster than light".
I used to flash all kinds of mods on my phone and I realized that was ALL I did with my phone, tinker and troubleshoot it. I will only unlock and root my phone if we stop getting the latest OS updates. In the meantime, nothing is so wrong with the stock kernel and rom that should make you install Bob's OS. But you know, that's the beauty of Android. You can decide what you do with your phone. Hope my point of view makes you reconsider flashing any custom software.
