I just got my Sprint Arrive today, and have been working on getting it set up. I'm having a problem with Marketplace.
I am in the US, and have a Windows Live account, based on a Hotmail email address that is from 12 or 14 years ago, probably. That Windows Live account is linked to my MSDN account, and I have never had any problem. Marketplace works within the Zune software on the computer, but when I attempt to use it in the phone, it tells me that "Marketplace is not yet available in your country/region."
I have not been able to find a setting that says what country I'm in, and I haven't found a way to remove the Live account from the phone, so I can try re"installing" it.
I just created a Live account for my wife today, and Marketplace works fine on her Arrive.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Go to https://billing.microsoft.com/viewpersonalinfo.aspx, what do you see under Country/Region?
Under Personal Information, it says United States. Also of note, I have a credit card on file, and have made purchases through Marketplace using my WinMo 6.5, 5.0, and 4.0 devices, as well as having a soon to be depricated "lifetime" MSN Direct account for my Garmin Nuvi. I'm puzzled.
There is also an XBox Live account that I didn't know I had. The phone must have created it??? It says United States, too.
What about https://account.live.com/?
That one says United States as well. I appreciate the tips, though!
Oh, now this is getting ridiculous......... I uninstalled the facebook app that I put on earlier, and now when I try to put it back, it says I already purchased it. It doesn't give me a way to reinstall it. Microsoft is really ticking me off with this phone, and I've been looking forward to it since last May.
And I still haven't gotten the marketplace on the phone to work - only through the computer. I'm about ready to throw this thing.
When it says you already purchased, it should allow u to install
Not sure what going on...
Well, for the moment, I'm stuck with Marketplace in Zune. Could be that the Install button is available in the phone Marketplace, but I don't see one in Zune. I have a ticket in with Sprint advanced tech support, and they are supposed to get back to me, but of course, this is day 3 of Sprint having this OS.
yeah... it's down for me as well. i'll use Zune if anything.
Well, the Sprint rep never called me back last night, so on the off-chance that it would work, I reset my phone. Now it works.
Thanks for the tips, guys.
In our company every employee has a certain trusted certificate which automatically signs every single e-mail. NoDo never had any issues with these kind of messages, everything was displayed just fine. With pre_mango now it seems no longer supported even though I reinstalled that cert on my device. Still all the e-mails say "Windows Phone does currently not support that type of messages". What the heck is wrong? oO Hopefully they'll provide a fix for that as I need that to be working.

Honestly, people who rely on their phones for business probably shouldn't be installing Mango, developer or not... It still isn't close to completion

I was thinking the same thing. I am surprised at how many people appear to be using the Mango beta for their day-to-day use. I'm pretty sure that isn't what Microsoft had in mind when they distributed it.
But the chinese input method is very very important for me. I cant imagine rolling back to NODO.
@FiyaFleye and @RoboDad
You're right, the both of you. But due to the lack of more than just one WP7 device, it's kinda hard to make a choice here. First of all, it's my private device which I mostly use for private things. I even develop for and on it, even though none of the apps I write will ever hit the marketplace. On top of that, I use it for daily business. Like company e-mails, tasks, calender and such. Most features introduced with Mango now make it way more comfortable to use than with NoDo. It's a hard decision that I will have to make whether I roll back so I can read our internal e-mails again (which I still can do by using IE and OWA) but won't then be able to use all those new features.
Hey guys,
Just received my HTC 7 Pro today.
So far i am liking the device and the OS, but one thing is annoying me:
- The first Windows Live ID you configure will sync all your contacts etc.
All of the Windows live contacts are added to the phone's contact list (which is rediculous because i talk to people on Windows Live which i have never even met IRL.....).
Is there any way to exclude the contacts from my list and still keep the Windows Live ID account? (of course i do want to keep the marketplace features etc).
I read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=847139
But that didn't really solve the problem either.
The deeper problem is that i have a Windows mobile 6 phone which i want to sync up with this one. But if all contacts would be in 1 list i would end up with around 300 contacts......
Have many people here bit the bullet and finetuned their real-life phone contact list with Windows Live / Facebook?
If so, what was the easiest way to sort it all out?
Thanks in advance.
PS.
I think if MS would have just used the contact groups/categories settings (which you can set in Windows live messenger) all would have been fine.
An option to hide or always 'fold' and show certain groups at the bottom would have solved this entire issue (which a lot of ppl seem to have).

I already used my Windows Live account to organize all my contacts and emails and such before I got my windows Phone, so this was not an issue for me.
Unfortunately you cannot disable contact sync'ing from Windows Live, but you can filter your contact list in the People hub. So you can hide them, but they'll still be sync'd in the background.
The only real workaround if you don't to hide your Windows Live contacts would be to actually go and organize your Windows Live contacts so that they are useful.... or delete them all. XD
Hmm, i might be able to live with the hide option but can't seem to find it anywhere. Is it a mango beta feature?

I am on Mango, but I'm pretty sure you could always filter out contacts since the beginning of Windows Phone. Though to be honest, i don't know if you could filter out Windows Live contacts before Mango.
Look in Settings > People, then there should be an option titled 'filter my contact list' or something similar. If its not there, then i guess its a Mango-only thing.
I had similar experience like this when I was using windows mobile and synced it with my hotmail... It synced all my email addresses I ever sent an email to, to my phonebook... I knew something like this could happen again with windows phone again... So I created a new live id just for my phone with no contacts and anything . I only use Google contacts and calendar and my live id is only for SkyDrive ...

All i see when i go to Settings > People is:
- Sort names by
- Display names by
- Accounts
So, how hard is it to obtain the latest Mango update?
Also, is there an easy way to import old text messages from WM 6 to WP7?

Yeah looks like this is a Mango only feature. That check mark for Facebook contacts that's currently in the NoDo release of Windows Phone 7 turns into a button that lets you filter contacts from multiple sources (Twitter, Facebook, Windows Live, etc.). So I guess you aren't gonna see that feature till Mango. Sorry.
Text messages cannot be imported to Windows Phone 7, and they cannot be exported from Windows Phone at all.
If you are a dev, you can get Mango very easily. But if you aren't, there are some methods around here on XDA you can use. Only problem it, when the real Mango comes out this fall, you have to go back to your current version of Windows Phone (which is gonna a couple months old backup by the time Mango comes out) before you can update to the final release of Mango. Just part of the fact that this is beta and really not meant for daily use (even though it far exceeds the quality of a typical beta product).
Thanks for the info man.
So, if i wait for mango i wouldnt have the roll-back issues, since right before the update the phones state will be backed up?
One more small question:
Does Windows Phone even read/handle SIM contacts (haven't had a SIM in the phone yet)?
If not i'll just update my Windows Live contact list till its current and start using it (untill Mango comes out and i can filter/hide the contacts i don't wish to see).

Yes, if you wait for the official release, then you will only need to update your phone once Mango officially comes out. All your settings will be retained and your phone will be backed up as part of the update process.
Windows Phone 7 can import your SIM contacts from the settings > people menu (you should see a button to import SIM contacts). But it does not display any contacts stored from your SIM. Once you import your SIM contacts, they get copied to your Windows Live account.
yup
import from sim option
Hmmm, i put in my SIM card etc. The network is working fine, but the option to "add SIM contacts" is greyed out and i can't select it.
Any ideas?

If the option is greyed out, its because your SIM has no contacts to import. Or maybe they are in some foreign format from some unknown device? Not sure. I have some junk SIM contacts that T-Mobile put into my phone, and they import fine when I press the button.
You sure the SIM card has contacts?
Hey,
I am positive the SIM has contact information since my other phone (HTC Touch Pro / WM 6.1) recognises them.
There are around 60 contacts on there or so...

Not sure then. If the option is greyed out, it means Windows Phone does not see any contacts on the SIM card. In which case, I cannot help you with that. Maybe plug the SIM into a different non-WP7 device, and try to clear out the SIM and then re-copy your contacts to the SIM? Not sure if that'll help.
u can't prevent sync of contacts in the primary live account on pre mango wp7, this is why I created a new live account, imported my contacts to it and then added that new live id first when I got my windows phone so if u hadn't really done anything important id recommend performing a hard reset then re-sync with the new live account. or install the mango beta.
I think i might have a solution here:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...-phone-7/9a27ca98-45ac-423e-ba42-0682e001676a
It will mean i'll have to sort out my double contacts for a while (but mehhh...)
On T-Mobile USA.
Visual Voicemail won't work. It is enabled on my account.
Can't find the new version of "Attentive Phone" in the marketplace. I was hoping for the "settings" integration. I can view it in Zune, but there's no option to download it.
Visual Voicemail worked fine under the Mango beta. I have it enabled on my account. I rolled back to NoDo at one point, then to the Mango RTM.
Any ideas here?
Just wait for the official release.
I had to manually search for attentive phone in the market place. Hope that helps.
Sent from my T7575 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Found it by following a link. Says it isn't available for my device/in my region.
In America on a a T-Mobile HD7.
Just got the RTM. Still having these problems.
Give it a day guys, the Facebook integration was also a wait and check later affair with the Mango beta so maybe they are doing something on their end.
Greetings
after I hard resetted my Lumia 650 I can no longer download the MS Facebook app with contact sync (People App --> News is the important one for me) . It worked before.
Maybe it updated to a new insider build which removed the functionality?
When I try to install an old MS Facebook APPX Package (Microsoft.MSFacebook_10.3.2.0.AppxBundle) it works but it only shows contact pictures. If I click on "News" or "Recent updates" it shows nothing
Any help ? Thanks!
Robin
The MS FB app just doesn't work anymore. Facebook removed access from all older & 3rd party apps. So, you're stuck with FB's latest version... I know "Boo", right?
If you sideload the MS version of Facebook (the Appx is in the forums, search for a thread with my username), you will get connect back. ONLY if your OS build is prior to Creators Update. I don't know if the 650 was eligible for the CU, hopefully its not, because the CU will remove even that possibility. MSFT killing off every good feature one by one.
I still have FB connect working on my Lumia 1520, but it went away on my HP Elitex3 after Creators. I did do a factory reset on my HP, restored it to my Lumua 1520 restore point...I had FB Connect for a few hours, but once Creators Update kicked it, it was gone. Perhaps, if you find a way to prevent windows mobile from updating, you could prevent CU from kicking in.
good luck. I was upset about this too!
