I just got my Sprint Arrive today, and have been working on getting it set up. I'm having a problem with Marketplace.
I am in the US, and have a Windows Live account, based on a Hotmail email address that is from 12 or 14 years ago, probably. That Windows Live account is linked to my MSDN account, and I have never had any problem. Marketplace works within the Zune software on the computer, but when I attempt to use it in the phone, it tells me that "Marketplace is not yet available in your country/region."
I have not been able to find a setting that says what country I'm in, and I haven't found a way to remove the Live account from the phone, so I can try re"installing" it.
I just created a Live account for my wife today, and Marketplace works fine on her Arrive.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Go to https://billing.microsoft.com/viewpersonalinfo.aspx, what do you see under Country/Region?
Under Personal Information, it says United States. Also of note, I have a credit card on file, and have made purchases through Marketplace using my WinMo 6.5, 5.0, and 4.0 devices, as well as having a soon to be depricated "lifetime" MSN Direct account for my Garmin Nuvi. I'm puzzled.
There is also an XBox Live account that I didn't know I had. The phone must have created it??? It says United States, too.
What about https://account.live.com/?
That one says United States as well. I appreciate the tips, though!
Oh, now this is getting ridiculous......... I uninstalled the facebook app that I put on earlier, and now when I try to put it back, it says I already purchased it. It doesn't give me a way to reinstall it. Microsoft is really ticking me off with this phone, and I've been looking forward to it since last May.
And I still haven't gotten the marketplace on the phone to work - only through the computer. I'm about ready to throw this thing.
When it says you already purchased, it should allow u to install
Not sure what going on...
Well, for the moment, I'm stuck with Marketplace in Zune. Could be that the Install button is available in the phone Marketplace, but I don't see one in Zune. I have a ticket in with Sprint advanced tech support, and they are supposed to get back to me, but of course, this is day 3 of Sprint having this OS.
yeah... it's down for me as well. i'll use Zune if anything.
Well, the Sprint rep never called me back last night, so on the off-chance that it would work, I reset my phone. Now it works.
Thanks for the tips, guys.
A word of warning. The new Shazam has appeared today in the marketplace as well as Shazam Encore. When you read the description it says you won't lose functions if you bought the app before May 18th, that's a lie!
You see, you can't update the old free app because it doesn't exist anymore, only 2.0 exists now. 1.0 doesn't even show up in your purchase history!
If for a reason you have to reinstall it, 2.0 will count as a new purchase and you will lose unlimited tagging. You will keep unlimited tagging only if you never ever have to reinstall the app. When you reset or buy that shiny Nokia phone in 6 months, you will only get Shazam 2.0, not the one you first got for free.
I have 1.0 installed on my phone, (I guess it's 1.0, there is no about menu for it anywhere, but it's been there for over a month and I have unlimited tagging. no update shows up in marketplace.
Are you saying that if I remove the 1.0 from my phone, I can then only install 2.0 and it will have limited tags?
Once Bing handles song tags, it won't matter much, but I have Shazam installed in my restore file, so I guess I can never really "lose" it.
What if the 1.0 xap was floating around and it was installed, wouldn't it too have the unlimited tagging?
True. It's not an update.
Just wait for Mango to have bing audio, music, whatever (;

Yes, if you remove it from your phone or buy a new phone it will not be the same version. It's not going to show up in your purchase history either even though you had it before they changed it to 2.0.
it's too bad they went that route. They'll lose customers for sure, and as Bing will do it for free, they really should be trying to build as large a loyalty base now as they can. Seems like a silly decision to me, but it's their app, their company, their choice...
I contacted Shazam, at least they were fast to answer. Hopefully he didn't get this confused with the update that went live today:
Daniel Van Damn, May-26 14:23 (BST):
Hi there
Sincere apologies for any issues caused by our recent update.
The issue has been identified and resolved, and the updated application has been submitted to the Marketplace for final approval. You'll be notified within the Windows Phone Marketplace as soon as it's available for download, this should take place within the next couple of days. If you've previously had unlimited tagging within your application, this will remain unaffected post-update, and will for all future updates. If your app is being stored in an incorrect location eg. the xbox gaming hub, it will be returned to the correct location.
Again, we're very sorry for this issue, and for any inconvenience it may have caused. Please feel free to get back in touch with any further questions or concerns you may have.
Kind regards,
Daniel Van Damn

sounds like they are talking about the previous issues and the update submitted to the marketplace is the one we're looking at now
Right. It sounds like we all need to email them to let them know that the current "fix" doesn't fix anything, and see what they can do about it.
My guess is that they won't be able to do anything. There are problems with the marketplace. I've already had one other app get lost due to a marketplace fluke, where instead of getting submitted as an update, it was submitted as a new app, forever breaking the update path for existing users. The developer apologized, but was unable to get Microsoft to transfer the purchase history from the old version to the new one.
So apparently Shazam is dead. Because I'm not going to spend $6 for a service that will be free in the OS in a few months.
Yeah we could try that.
email is: [email protected]
OK. Email sent. We'll see what happens.

Yeah came back yesterday. The issue is this version makes you lose unlimited tagging even if you bought the app before May 18th.
Great news! After a few exchanged emails with Shazam support they asked me to find my Device ID (there's a free app for that) and did some magic tricks within their database. I reinstalled the app and now I have unlimited tagging back!
Cool! Just curious, did you try installing the update before their database tweak? And if so, did you encounter the 5 tag limit? I only ask because I had to hard reset my Focus a few days ago to install a new SD card, and since I reinstalled Shazam 2.0, I have not seen the limit. I've done about 20 tags, and everything has worked fine.
Also, if their database is device id based, shouldn't your device have already been there?
And on another note, if the database IS device id based, that means anyone who upgrades to a new phone will lose their unlimited tagging, which makes me . It should be based on your Live ID, which (I think) follows you from phone to phone.
I tried to update but the marketplace wouldn't let me as Shazam 1.0 doesn't exist anymore. I had to uninstall it and install Shazam 2.0 and that's where I was hit with the tag limit.
I agree that their database should be done with Live IDs, just makes sense.

Interesting. Yeah, when I said "update" I should have been clearer. I meant did you install the 2.0 version that showed up. The reason I asked is because that is what I did after my hard reset, but I never got hit with the limit. Maybe my device id was still correct in their database, but somehow yours got lost.

Peew971, Im still with Shazam 1.0 as I don't want to lose the unlimited tags.
Is it worth updating to Shazam 2.0 ?
Thanks
It's basically the same app really, not sure if the YouTube feature is in 1.0 but I never use it. I'd say 2.0 will guarantee you get future updates but as long as yours is working there's no need to update right now.
If you do update to 2.0 and get a tag limit, do contact Shazam support, they'll fix it for you.

Hi there.
Yesterday I Chevronunlocked my HTC 7 Mozart (T-Mobile branded).
I used this xap to prevent it from re-locking, then updated to NoDo (7.0.7392)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1009974
After that my WP7 was still unlocked - so far so good. Today I noticed that I can not use any Twitter app on my phone anymore. All - including the official twitter app (rowi, motweet, beeez, birdsong etc.) tell me they can't authenticate. I retried multiple times with my username and email address, all to no avail. I made sure my password is correct, and I can sign in fine on the Twitter website (regular site from my PC and mobile site from my WP7).
Does anyone know what might be wrong? Or how I can fix it (without re-formating my phone)?
thanks in advance

Birdsong & Rowi have both been updated through the marketplace to fix this issue, Beezz won't work anymore unless its updated, and not sure if the official app got updated... Twitter changed its permission settings last week which broke a lot of third party apps, they all need to have a method to reauthenticate now

Actually, the only thing that was changed is Direct Messages. So if an app wasn't updated to support the new Direct Messages API, it would no longer be able to access DMs, but everything else is still the same as always and should continue to work as normal. Both rowi and Birdsong were updated to access DMs with the updated API.
I don't even see any development or updates from Beezz at all, so I completely ignore its existence.
If none of your Twitter apps are working, there could be something wrong with your setup of your phone or your installation of Windows Phone 7 is broken. Which means you may have to hard reset.
Thanks for the replies.
Yeah, I feared that a hard reset is the only way... so i'll just unbrand it while I am at it, a hard reset will relock the device, wont it? So I have to fully reflash anyways.
Thanks again, even though I have some work to do now
Not true, Rowi had many more issues pop up due to the dm permission change... I'm not sure why, but they made it clear on their twitter... I use the app, my live tile even stopped behaving properly, it wouldn't reset, just kept adding to the previous number until I got that update

Hey guys,
Just received my HTC 7 Pro today.
So far i am liking the device and the OS, but one thing is annoying me:
- The first Windows Live ID you configure will sync all your contacts etc.
All of the Windows live contacts are added to the phone's contact list (which is rediculous because i talk to people on Windows Live which i have never even met IRL.....).
Is there any way to exclude the contacts from my list and still keep the Windows Live ID account? (of course i do want to keep the marketplace features etc).
I read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=847139
But that didn't really solve the problem either.
The deeper problem is that i have a Windows mobile 6 phone which i want to sync up with this one. But if all contacts would be in 1 list i would end up with around 300 contacts......
Have many people here bit the bullet and finetuned their real-life phone contact list with Windows Live / Facebook?
If so, what was the easiest way to sort it all out?
Thanks in advance.
PS.
I think if MS would have just used the contact groups/categories settings (which you can set in Windows live messenger) all would have been fine.
An option to hide or always 'fold' and show certain groups at the bottom would have solved this entire issue (which a lot of ppl seem to have).

I already used my Windows Live account to organize all my contacts and emails and such before I got my windows Phone, so this was not an issue for me.
Unfortunately you cannot disable contact sync'ing from Windows Live, but you can filter your contact list in the People hub. So you can hide them, but they'll still be sync'd in the background.
The only real workaround if you don't to hide your Windows Live contacts would be to actually go and organize your Windows Live contacts so that they are useful.... or delete them all. XD
Hmm, i might be able to live with the hide option but can't seem to find it anywhere. Is it a mango beta feature?

I am on Mango, but I'm pretty sure you could always filter out contacts since the beginning of Windows Phone. Though to be honest, i don't know if you could filter out Windows Live contacts before Mango.
Look in Settings > People, then there should be an option titled 'filter my contact list' or something similar. If its not there, then i guess its a Mango-only thing.
I had similar experience like this when I was using windows mobile and synced it with my hotmail... It synced all my email addresses I ever sent an email to, to my phonebook... I knew something like this could happen again with windows phone again... So I created a new live id just for my phone with no contacts and anything . I only use Google contacts and calendar and my live id is only for SkyDrive ...

All i see when i go to Settings > People is:
- Sort names by
- Display names by
- Accounts
So, how hard is it to obtain the latest Mango update?
Also, is there an easy way to import old text messages from WM 6 to WP7?

Yeah looks like this is a Mango only feature. That check mark for Facebook contacts that's currently in the NoDo release of Windows Phone 7 turns into a button that lets you filter contacts from multiple sources (Twitter, Facebook, Windows Live, etc.). So I guess you aren't gonna see that feature till Mango. Sorry.
Text messages cannot be imported to Windows Phone 7, and they cannot be exported from Windows Phone at all.
If you are a dev, you can get Mango very easily. But if you aren't, there are some methods around here on XDA you can use. Only problem it, when the real Mango comes out this fall, you have to go back to your current version of Windows Phone (which is gonna a couple months old backup by the time Mango comes out) before you can update to the final release of Mango. Just part of the fact that this is beta and really not meant for daily use (even though it far exceeds the quality of a typical beta product).
Thanks for the info man.
So, if i wait for mango i wouldnt have the roll-back issues, since right before the update the phones state will be backed up?
One more small question:
Does Windows Phone even read/handle SIM contacts (haven't had a SIM in the phone yet)?
If not i'll just update my Windows Live contact list till its current and start using it (untill Mango comes out and i can filter/hide the contacts i don't wish to see).

Yes, if you wait for the official release, then you will only need to update your phone once Mango officially comes out. All your settings will be retained and your phone will be backed up as part of the update process.
Windows Phone 7 can import your SIM contacts from the settings > people menu (you should see a button to import SIM contacts). But it does not display any contacts stored from your SIM. Once you import your SIM contacts, they get copied to your Windows Live account.
yup
import from sim option
Hmmm, i put in my SIM card etc. The network is working fine, but the option to "add SIM contacts" is greyed out and i can't select it.
Any ideas?

If the option is greyed out, its because your SIM has no contacts to import. Or maybe they are in some foreign format from some unknown device? Not sure. I have some junk SIM contacts that T-Mobile put into my phone, and they import fine when I press the button.
You sure the SIM card has contacts?
Hey,
I am positive the SIM has contact information since my other phone (HTC Touch Pro / WM 6.1) recognises them.
There are around 60 contacts on there or so...

Not sure then. If the option is greyed out, it means Windows Phone does not see any contacts on the SIM card. In which case, I cannot help you with that. Maybe plug the SIM into a different non-WP7 device, and try to clear out the SIM and then re-copy your contacts to the SIM? Not sure if that'll help.
u can't prevent sync of contacts in the primary live account on pre mango wp7, this is why I created a new live account, imported my contacts to it and then added that new live id first when I got my windows phone so if u hadn't really done anything important id recommend performing a hard reset then re-sync with the new live account. or install the mango beta.
I think i might have a solution here:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...-phone-7/9a27ca98-45ac-423e-ba42-0682e001676a
It will mean i'll have to sort out my double contacts for a while (but mehhh...)
Since I forced update to 8773 in my Omnia W (Brazilian version, SGH-i677), I can't receive all facebook messages when I'm online using message hub. Is anyone having this problem? How to fix it?
Same issue, same cause. Probably that's the reason why we're not getting the damn update officially. Haha
haha damn!! I'm trying to restore to original firmware, but don't know how... Any ideas? I've opened a thread, but no replies so far...

Not sure about the Omnia W... I'm on a Lumia 710, so I can re-flash it through Nokia Care Suite (not going to, though. BTW that pretty much confirms it's not device-update-specific, but the update as a whole).
Samsung has ODIN for Android, doesn't it have any similar tools for WP?
This bug,
HTC camera modes bug,
Lumia connectivity bug,
etc...
Probably all these bugs that we take upon ourselves are indicating to us that "STOP, force updating your phones". Most likely we don't have the updates officially because there are things not done well.
I had official update on my Titan and everything is happy as a rainbow.
Nothing at Samsung site... ANy ideas of how to restore to Mango, or even NoDo????? Please!!!
Does anybody speak portuguese? I have found this blog, will try it later:

*Just followed the steps and it worked perfectly! Now I'm at 7720! Awesome!

How did you get Tango on your Focus? I have tried forcing it through Zune to no avail.
Same issues on my Lumia 800 with OS 7.10.8773.98 and FW 1750.0805.8773.12220
Not all messages are forwarded to the phone. I forced the tango update too with the cab sender method.
People are writing in the comments here that they are seeing this on Mango too.

I posted a thread about it. Changed my region code to ROG-CA and did the update trick.
I have no problems with 8107 or Tango
I had this problem, fixed using this method:
1. Remove your Facebook account from your WP
2. Cancel the connection between your Windows Live and Facebook accounts
3. Remove Microsoft of your Facebook account and every data related
4. Reconnect you Windows Live with Facebook
5. Reconnect your WP with your Facebook with your new @facebook.com email
Worked for me atleast.
i flashed my lumia 800 with tango and since then having the problem , but flashing it to mango again didn't helped either !
Tried it too. Apparently my Facebook account was removed from the Hotmail Integration by itself... just re-connected it and now it kinda works like before.
Tried the method above, using facebook email, did not worked. I started a conversation with a friend and only saw the reply via browser or facebook app...
Bought the WP7 for the social network integration, and it does not work...
