Synergy kernel - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I have been on cm7 for quite awhile and just wanted to play around with something new for a bit. What is the best kernel to use with the synergy rom and why do you feel that way?
Sent from XDA premium Supersonic... CM7/GoDmOdE rules

The only kernel is the stock kernel until a dev cooks something up since the source was just released today. Why would you post this in the dev section as a new thread? You should have posted in the synergy thread.

Messing around at work and was not thinking..... Sry everyone should not have placed it here

I think myn cooked godmode into the new synergy! Go check it out!

This question will probably be asked a billion times over once the kernels start dropping so this answer goes for everybody who is going to ask the same question.
When kernels do drop you will have to test each kernel to see which one fits your phone. No two phones are alike so the kernel (when they do drop) that I flash may be better for my phone than it is for your phone. Your phone may play nicer with a kernel (when they do drop) that isn't so great with my phone.
Basically it all depends on how you use your phone. Just flash each one (when they do drop) and see which is good with your phone.

I will be patient and wait..... Just want to be able to overclock and undervolt as I choose .... Good things come to those who wait..... By far and away the best sense rom I have come accross

Looking for ROM recommendations...

Hello all,
I am looking to move to a different ROM. I am currently on Cyanogenmod 7 Nightlies and have been for at least 4 months. Prior to this, I was on Myn's TwoPointTwo, but development seams to have stopped on that, although it was not bad when I was on it.
I would like a ROM that is mostly Gingerbread AOSP without a lot of mods. CM7 is nice, but I can't stand the WyContacts dialer/contacts/history app. I like them separate. I do like ADWLauncher, so that cooked in is fine.
I don't know if this is a CM7 problem or not, but WiFi Hotspot interferes with Bluetooth. Causes my calls to cut in and out like crazy.
Any suggestions would be great.
Deck. It's like CM without the extra bloat. Great battery life and blazing fast. Wrong forum, but no big deal.

My 2 cents is deck 1.2.1 with tiamat 4.0.6 with sbc. Blazing fast with regards to overclocking, not to mention a lot if free internal memory and available RAM. Battery drains quickly overclocked. Capable and stable at 1.226ghz (i think that's the setting) using Android overclock from the market. Also has built in advanced settings, similar to cm7's. A lot of nice tweaks in there. Just my experience. Hope it helps.

Thanks! I've just flashed to Deck.
However, the first thing I noticed is that it still uses WyContacts. Any way to go back to Gingerbread dialer/contacts/history apps?

If You Live In A 4G Area I Would Recommend Any Rom With 4G (its an essential for me). I would recommend synergy, mikg, or cyanogen. If not in 4g area or dont care about it get new miui. Looks awesome.

+1: the gingerbread-evo-deck has been my favorite AOSP ROM since it was released; currently at 1.2.1. I like the Go Launcher and Go Contacts so I've switched to them. Added Link2SD to utilize my Ext3 partition for apps, and that's about it. Throw all my apps on there, everything works and works great!
If you're interested, also works great with custom kernels by Savaged-Zen and Tiamat (currently using SZ 2.2.1). There are many great options, but IMHO you can only get different, not better.
Good luck, and thank you for your time.

Your post count is over 100 and you've been here for a year, and you could have just skipped over this thread completely after reading the title. So, the only reason that you opened this thread at all was to chastise the OP. So as you question why he committed the mortal sin of posting in the wrong area, you should also be asking yourself why it was so important for you to slam him with obscenities for it.
Personally, I'm far more annoyed when someone posts, "What's the battery life like?" in a thread with 500 responses including 60 responses to that same question that has already been asked 10-times in the same thread.
Yes, this was posted in the wrong area, but in my observation you get much better responses to such a question here than you will in Q&A because many users, myself included, rarely if ever go into the Q&A area. I'm not supporting posting in the wrong area, but I do understand why a question like this was posted here.
Thank you for your time.
this post removed, since thread was moved out of development.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. First of all, I didn't mean to put it in Development, but when you're in that forum looking for ROMs, the first reaction is to just click POST NEW THREAD. Thanks for moving me.
I have been on gingerbread-deck for almost 24 hours now. It is definitely fast.
That said, it still uses WyContacts. Do nearly all AOSP ROMs use that? Does Gingerbread not have it's own dialer and contacts apps?
If a ROM doesn't have ADW Launcher built-in, is the standalone version the only option or is there a way to kind of integrate it with Gingerbread? Any advantages to this?

[Q] Sooo... Any update on ACS 1.3?

It's been a few months and 1.2 is STILL the best ROM in my opinion. Just... any new news on the development for 1.3?
John did mention a new kernel would be included with 1.3 but that it wouldn't be Vision Kernel as was expected a while back. Other than that, rjmjr69 (leader of ACS) hinted that 1.3 would be "coming soon" in the 1.2 thread not to long ago, so we shouldn't be waiting much longer. My GUESS (which should be taken with a grain if salt) would be that it's in its testing stages and being prepped for release, hopefully before Oct? We'll see what happens tho, someone on the inside is bound to tip us off with a teaser or something soon.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
LOL ... yep , when rjmjr69 posted that , I got my phone ready , but still waiting ... LOL
Yeah, when they are trying to add a new kernel, new tweaks, Hotspot hack, etc it can get tricky. Especially the kernel part. You have to test so many configurations to confirm stability. For all I know, the kernel may not make it in. I will contact some people to try and get more details

It will be based on froyo, iirc, which would mean it'l be outdated at release. They may have considered that...

Thanks, Ceelos! That's what I needed to hear! In my opinion, I think ACS should just "strongly" suggest a good kernel for us to include instead of making one. But, I'm happy with 1.2 at the moment.
I tried the Hurricane ROM and the volume was waaay too loud. I reverted back to ACS 1.2 and I'm happy as a clam.

Usually teams seem to recommend a fellow team, member's or friend's kernel but the one that is the most current is Genocide 2.0 that has Voodoo 10. Maybe I will go through all of the kernels and test for battery life, speed, and whatever anyone asks

Since it is so easy to flash a kernel, and they dont normally change anything else in my setup, I tend to have as many as possible on my SD to cycle through until I find the one that works the best on my setup

Just hearing the part about you knowing 2 devs that are working on kernels is a breath of fresh air to me. I've been wondering when new kernels would start to roll out again. I was hoping for an update to Vision and Genocide kernels, especially after the efficiency keyboard patch was released by mkasick. Hope to see some updated, and possibly new, kernels.

They should not include a custom kernel. One of the best thing in 1.2 was the stock kernel. Custom kernels sometimes make apps to FC. I had issues, random reboots, FCs with custom kernel. That why I choose 1.2 because it have a stock kernel, no issues since first install(well in my wife Epic it lost the root).

1.2 did not have a kernel it keeps whatever kernel you had before. Im sure it lost root on your wife's epic cause it was probably stock and root is usually baked in the kernel

POLL: What is your favorite rom thus far

Just wondering what everyone else likes for a rom. Feel free to tell us your likes or dislikes with your current rom. With the choices we have available to us on this device, I'm sure some are wondering which rom is right for them.... this poll should give people some kind of direction.
EDIT: I must apologize. I must of been tired to miss putting viperROM on the poll list. Don't suppose there is a way to edit that poll is there?
I'm loving Starburst and glad I finally budged out of my curmudgeonly ways off of stock as I wait for CM. It's very full featured and allows tweaking without turning into a theme-fest. I was very surprised with it.
Though I am also preparing my phone to try out some other ROMs today....I'm a big fan of Calkulins work so I'm pretty eager to try that out.
Calkulin FTW
Although to be fair I haven't tried starburst yet. Didnt boot when I tried it but it was my first attempt at a custom ROM on this phone so I am sure I did something wrong

If you want stable I'd go for this AOSP mod

To be honest, and maybe this means I'm a ****, but when I read about people having all kinds of problems with a rom or a kernel or a mod or anything my first thought is automatically "they probably fncked something up."
A vast majority of the times this is, in fact, the problem. I'm on my 8th? 9th? Android device. I hack 'em up to pieces. I try to be a good boy and read everything thoroughly...but I don't. I skim for the important bits. If I screw something up it's usually pretty obvious, then I fix it, then it works. I have never actually had a ROM that has destroyed my battery life (I have with experimental kernels, but, to be expected), I have never lost 3G function, I have never gotten unfixable bootloops, I have never killed my wifi or 4G to where a full wipe and reflash didn't bring it back...never. For years now I have been hearing some wild problems from people and never actually experienced any of them for myself in a way that wasn't fixable, by myself.
I have gotten better battery life, faster internet, working youtube, faster wifi (the 'wifi n' mod on Evo4G), etc etc etc.
I don't know, I'm always skeptical of people claiming a rom or kernel are screwing things up when there are other people with no problems at all.
Alpha and Beta roms notwithstanding, lol
viper for some reason not on here..
but anyway, my vote is for viper. Need to try Calkulin more though
yeah.. where's viper? I think the rom is quiet good.. and nobody 's seems to complain much on his thread..

I am also not sure how to approach this. There are only a few roms that don't support wimax.. I suggest calkulins. It's my go to rom. I've heard starburst is pretty good too.. But in the future, please try to read a bit. maybe look at the roms that have a lot of view and/or comments. The OP of each thread will tell you just about everything you need to know.
IMO, there is no more stable custom ROM right now then UnNamed. If I wasn't so flash happy, I would stay with that but I'm changing ROMs every 2-3 days now...
But anyway, yeah UnNamed is the best ROM as far as stability is concerned.

MJHawaii is right.. UnNamed is a hell of a rom especially with a few tweaks added in. I am quite sure you will not find anyone unhappy with it. Also like mentioned before there is a whole development section of great roms. Just make sure when you try them all you do not restore data and flash all of them cleanly and not on top of each other.
For battery life on this phone may I recommend 200-800 since your phone can clearly handle it...
no offence, but either dont flash and stay on stock or there is always the good ol flip phones!

blazer is my daily driver.
i have not tried a single rom that has just flat out been unstable or unusable though; i steer clear of early/experimental builds, bust most of the roms in the dev section for this phone are pretty complete and comprehensive.
this is my first android device and initially i had trouble just rooting the thing, but thanks to xda's dev section my first flash was a piece of cake and i've had no issues or major complaints in 3 months of jumping rom to rom.
Just an observation. But your avatar shows you have at&t, shouldn't you be in a different section? This forum is for the Samsung epic 4g touch. Maybe thats why the roms aren't working. Unless you just havent updated your profile. (Im guilty of that as well)

I been through the entire forum, read threads on performance comparisons with arc s ROMs and I've had a personal experience with over 15+ ROMs. Still, only a week or so passes n then I get the urge to flash a new one. Sometimes I even reason that changing ROMs has evolved into an addiction.

My arc s hardware is perfect, now it's the ROM that's gotta compete to reach that 'perfection' level.

I feel you. It's become an addiction for me too. Or rather an obsession. I started missing lectures, sleeping in class, staying up all night, flashing a rom near 20 times trying to get everything right. You forgot about kernel bro. Kernel is just as important as the ROM. Try jader's ultimate hd. Check out my signature. Or even jelly sandwich by maxio. Or even the old aokp ics final release and also cm9 by fxp. Optimax is good too. If your looking for gb roms try arconium 8 if I'm not mistaken. Just search for it. Or x-gamer. Haven't tried atomic gb you're welcome to try it. If for jb roms. CAMP by zackconsole has everything. It's totally pimp. Or aokp jb or cm10. I don't recommend jb although it has lots more features. I still don't trust it because it's still not stable yet.
Just flash all of it to see which one you like. Then only your obsession will be cured
Or. You could learn how to make your own rom and kernel which I plan to do after my exams.

There is no "best" ROM...
Each ROM is different in so many ways
You have my ROM which is super light and fast but it has a 2.3.4 sony look (quite basic) which you can customize to your needs.
Hahaha another one! Well don't worry as that addiction tends to slow down! At least with me it did. Now I can hold a rom for a week or more!
About the rom...well keep trying until you're truly happy with it. There's no best rom as for example I love women (please associate female cat word) and some dudes love men (please associate another word for rooster here)!
