Right now am so stressed, pissed n confused cuz I haven't found that one ROM that tickles my fancy.
I been through the entire forum, read threads on performance comparisons with arc s ROMs and I've had a personal experience with over 15+ ROMs. Still, only a week or so passes n then I get the urge to flash a new one. Sometimes I even reason that changing ROMs has evolved into an addiction.
I need help here, I thought I should start this thread so that least I can get to know roughly which ROM in particular is common for ya'll geeks out there
My arc s hardware is perfect, now it's the ROM that's gotta compete to reach that 'perfection' level.

I feel you. It's become an addiction for me too. Or rather an obsession. I started missing lectures, sleeping in class, staying up all night, flashing a rom near 20 times trying to get everything right. You forgot about kernel bro. Kernel is just as important as the ROM. Try jader's ultimate hd. Check out my signature. Or even jelly sandwich by maxio. Or even the old aokp ics final release and also cm9 by fxp. Optimax is good too. If your looking for gb roms try arconium 8 if I'm not mistaken. Just search for it. Or x-gamer. Haven't tried atomic gb you're welcome to try it. If for jb roms. CAMP by zackconsole has everything. It's totally pimp. Or aokp jb or cm10. I don't recommend jb although it has lots more features. I still don't trust it because it's still not stable yet.
Just flash all of it to see which one you like. Then only your obsession will be cured
Or. You could learn how to make your own rom and kernel which I plan to do after my exams.

N I thought I was alone in this, thanks for the tips. I've tried all the ROMS u suggested, besides the optimax one....at least with kernels it's not so hard finding a suitable one in comparison to ROMS. Right now am using ThilinaC ics pureness build 14, with the small apps functionality I've lasted 2 wks with it ...
Right now I'm learning the basics f making a ROM hope that's my answer

So.... We have another flashaholic on board. Join the club! Lmao.
I was once like that, even flashed two to three roms a day. Then did the same thing the following day. After I tried xperia pureness, I stopped flashing roms. Didnt want to waste any more time.

There is no "best" ROM...
Each ROM is different in so many ways
You have my ROM which is super light and fast but it has a 2.3.4 sony look (quite basic) which you can customize to your needs.
Hahaha another one! Well don't worry as that addiction tends to slow down! At least with me it did. Now I can hold a rom for a week or more!
About the rom...well keep trying until you're truly happy with it. There's no best rom as for example I love women (please associate female cat word) and some dudes love men (please associate another word for rooster here)!

Just wondering what everyone else likes for a rom. Feel free to tell us your likes or dislikes with your current rom. With the choices we have available to us on this device, I'm sure some are wondering which rom is right for them.... this poll should give people some kind of direction.
EDIT: I must apologize. I must of been tired to miss putting viperROM on the poll list. Don't suppose there is a way to edit that poll is there?
I'm loving Starburst and glad I finally budged out of my curmudgeonly ways off of stock as I wait for CM. It's very full featured and allows tweaking without turning into a theme-fest. I was very surprised with it.
Though I am also preparing my phone to try out some other ROMs today....I'm a big fan of Calkulins work so I'm pretty eager to try that out.
Calkulin FTW
Although to be fair I haven't tried starburst yet. Didnt boot when I tried it but it was my first attempt at a custom ROM on this phone so I am sure I did something wrong

But my phones set up o-soo perfect right now idk what to do. After j see screenies and some themes for caulkin anhd hear good things about battery and smoothness I'm going to hold tight
If you want stable I'd go for this AOSP mod

I cringe when I see other people having problems on other roms, ranging from battery life to stability issues. I'll only leave this for ICS.

No doubt caulkulins roms is the best
Much smoother and faster than starburst or viper

To be honest, and maybe this means I'm a ****, but when I read about people having all kinds of problems with a rom or a kernel or a mod or anything my first thought is automatically "they probably fncked something up."
A vast majority of the times this is, in fact, the problem. I'm on my 8th? 9th? Android device. I hack 'em up to pieces. I try to be a good boy and read everything thoroughly...but I don't. I skim for the important bits. If I screw something up it's usually pretty obvious, then I fix it, then it works. I have never actually had a ROM that has destroyed my battery life (I have with experimental kernels, but, to be expected), I have never lost 3G function, I have never gotten unfixable bootloops, I have never killed my wifi or 4G to where a full wipe and reflash didn't bring it back...never. For years now I have been hearing some wild problems from people and never actually experienced any of them for myself in a way that wasn't fixable, by myself.
I have gotten better battery life, faster internet, working youtube, faster wifi (the 'wifi n' mod on Evo4G), etc etc etc.
I don't know, I'm always skeptical of people claiming a rom or kernel are screwing things up when there are other people with no problems at all.
Alpha and Beta roms notwithstanding, lol
viper for some reason not on here..
but anyway, my vote is for viper. Need to try Calkulin more though
yeah.. where's viper? I think the rom is quiet good.. and nobody 's seems to complain much on his thread..

I'm looking to upgrade my dads phone. He has a custom GB ROM I already put on there months ago but since sprint finally rolling out ICS I was wondering what was best...cm9? F18 leak? He just wants ROM that is stable and has hacked hotspot.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Well if he want a stable rom with Hotspot hack i recommend getting Phantom Blazer 4.1 Rom. But if he wants ICS roms CM9 will do.
I'm running M'ICS v 1.1. stable, good battery life and has sprint hotspot.
Let's be honest here, there are probably a dozen of these threads out here and I am quite sure a few quite recently. You could get a million different answers since it all really depends on the user themselves. There is so much that goes into deciding whats best for you I never get asking others. I mean opinions are great but personal experience is the best.
If you are just going to do if for every day use then flash the stock FF18, throw a recovery on it and flash the hotspot hack in themes and apps voila! you're done!
Sorry was not trying to flame I understand what you are asking just don't think a dozen people giving you different answers helps you. All the roms in development are great but all come with a little kwirk here or there.

Stability is one aspect, battery life is another. Best suggestion is to read through the threads of the roms that interest you and what style you like and test the battery life on it.
I personally like Wicked 1.5 and have 3 1/2 to 4 hrs on screen time. But that may not be the case for you. Based on what you run, how you run...
Browse away and give 'em a try but take head to flashing responsibly and read, read, read so you don't brick your phone.

I completely get it. It is alot to absorb.
There are 2 posts that I know of which are polling people about the roms in use but its all a matter of taste.
Besides the fact that some may be partial to a particular team, dev, etc.
Its just a hard question to answer.
Best solution is to try if you're willing. But there are safe kernals now and great people to give you advise if you get stuck.

Thanks...but I'm not an ICS virgin by any means...my ASUS TF tablet has been running it for a while now. Just thought it was time to take the leap for my phone finally.
First off I hate my s2 now, it feels like I have no reliability, it really stinks to be honest. I know the capabilities of this phone and it seems like ever since I upgraded to the ICS from the kies update (before root) the wifi stinks and has no where NEAR the strength of the previous gingerbread rom, (stock as well on gingy) so I decided maybe a root and a custom rom would help? no. This is only making things worse. I need this phone as I rely on it for all sorts of buisness. I need a solution for day-to-day use with no glitches. And this may be on t-mobiles end, but sometimes I don't recieve calls and for sure don't recieve even half of my texts people send. If I have to go back to stock gingy, so be it, I love ICS but if it means all of these glitchy processes are included, I hate it. Right now I rooted using galaxys2root.com's method and then right now I am on darkside rom v7. Is there a better root/unroot or factory reset? I just need a more stable process and I am COMPLETELY willing to start all over. Any help would be mightly appreciated. Thanks!:fingers-crossed::cyclops:
I'm not 100% sure about rooting from ics but once u have that figured out......the most stable rom I have had on this phone might have been beastmod5.0. You can find that on rootzwiki.com. it is however a gingerbread rom and u will not have ics features....but if u want the closest to stable I think I would go there....maybe somebody who has tried other Roms can further recommend some.

Yes yes yes yes! I BEASTMOD ROM IS THE ROM TO HAVE. sorry about the capitals lol but honestly beastMOD rom is the sickest rom I've ever had on my s2. It's the way I met Melvin, lol. Its so debatable to find one perfect Rom, too many choices and too many pros and cons in all of them. Best i can say is try them ALL until you find something that you can use without issues. Or even if it had bugs, they could be the ones you could live with. None are perfect by far, their extremely close to perfect but none are. Don't forget what your doing here. I might open a site called Flashers Anonymous. It how ii roll!!! If i find something i really cant deal with in a Rom I just try another one. Since June I have tried 5 Roms and absolutely have stopped in Infamous for a while. Dev support is fast ad reliable. And to be something made for free by the guys that create them I won't complain nay one bit until my phone melts in my hands..
With that said, best of luck and happy flashings.... until the next time im oof:.....
Tuesday Blu Ray Rom is probably the most stable ROM or any gingerbread rom.... I personally dont have any major issues with the aokp biulds im content with the 7/15 build
I purchased one v last summer and my experience with the phone has been mostly frustration and grief. The original Sense ROM is sluggish and buggy, so I got rid of it as soon as I had rooted the phone. In fact I found it slower than my old Nexus One coupled with MIUI. It is shocking that two years old phone overperforms a relatively recent although budget handset .Anyhow, since rooting I've tried a bunch of different roms, but none of them are satisfactory. Sluggishness, showstopper bugs or ugly user interface. At this point I got tired of trying out different ROMs and reconfiguring the phone from scratch. I just want something that would work well enough.
I like MIUI a lot, but all the recent builds have been plagued by various bugs. As if each new build fixes some of the problems, while introducing a handful of new bugs. I am sure it will become better at some point, but I would like to have something decent now.
So my question goes, what ROM/Kernel combo do you find the most usable? Something that would just work and would not need to reinstall/tweak every week or so.
Cheers!

Well, I think the stock Rom is somehow the best, with the least bugs, cause it's come from the original company and with a lot of tests! I have used many Roms, I found "My One V RC4+" better, I didn't see any special bugs, however I am using stock currently!

Believe me I try all and kernel Kiss thx to maxwen with myONEv RC0.5 FX ROM thx to ckpv5 running smooth and fast with no battery drain!!!
If you wanna have smooth camera or video recording features, stable, no-bugs & still can run faster, you can go for myONEv RC5.0 FX from ckpv5. But if you don't really need camera & video recording for your daily activity, then you can go for CM10 from Lloir.
And last but not least, you can also flash latest Titanium-KISS kernel from maxwen. :good:
And for gaming which one is better?! I am using My One V with kiss kernel, its fast, but is there any other faster than it?

for better gaming experience, i guess it's almost the same because it depends on your GPU.
Because of the controversy and arguments they inevitably generate, "best ROM" threads are prohibited on XDA. Thread closed.
So just want to know what ROM have ya been running for the longest. Maybe this can help noobs choose what ROM would suit them best. Maybe this can clean up some threads too. Who knows it can maybe cure flashaholicism!
So if you can just post your ROM, amounts of time spent on it, and if you have run into any problems.

Been running slimrom since the early days. I tried a few others before I discovered slimrom, but since then, the thought has not once crossed my mind to try any other roms. I'm sold on my rock solid decision of this rom and furthermore all of my future phone purchases will revolve around the fact of whether or not they are supported by slimrom.
