Boost your 3G speed/signal significantly with foil.(pix included) - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/jzgrrJHrg6I2HhLtuLldh8Vu4B2B_5EkNzojvlGzvRw?feat=directlink
Mine increased its speed and signal 1.5~2 times than without the foil.

By doing that your connecting the wifi, gps and radio antennas together with the tin foil. Bound to cause some problems in the long run.

Runs good. Guess you are wrong.

Looks like the wifi and 3g antennas are bridged but the gps has been gone around (the one at the top).

hmm.. wanting to try this but also not. even if not now, it does seem very possible that connecting the wifi and the 3G antenna should/will cause a problem.

Normally both radios wouldn't be running at the same time. But what would happen when running wifi tether?

Stole my thread bro. But that's an interesting way you did it.

I would avoid it. The radio engineers did it their way for a reason.

Another Chinese mod... Not the smartest move in the long run especially with health and safety standards. The phones are designed to take in only so much information and data at a time. Doing this is like overclocking your processor and in time comes with a price. Use at own discretion.

The antenna next to the camera is GPS. GPS uses a loop. If you'll notice, the gold strip covers both contacts to form a complete loop.
The mobile antenna is on the bottom with the long strip.
Bridging all of the antennas is bound to cause some problems. If you have both radios on, but leave wifi disconnected, it will stay mostly off as it periodically polls for access points.
The mobile radio works similarly. While not on a call and not using data, it isn't maintaining a constant connection. It periodically polls for updates and connectivity.
In the end, not all of the radios will be firing at once.
With minor testing you might not notice any problems. Keep in mind the problem that plagued the iPhone was exposed antennas for different radios being bridged causing dropped calls.
I'd be interested in seeing some real world testing and not quick benchmarks. Try some google maps navigation and see how reliable it is. Make a phone call while connected to wifi. Try some wifi tethering. Wifi tether while browsing google maps on your device to activate all 3 of the radios affected. I'm genuinely curious what the results would be.

Yeah this isnt a good idea. For whatever reason it might run fine now, but there is something called SWR (standing wave ratio) which is reflected power back to the transmitter. If you have a high SWR due to unmatched load (antenna) then you will eventually degrade the RF front end of the transmitting radios in addition to inefficient radiation of the signal.
As it was mentioned before, great received signal and data download, but poor upload...this to me is a direct indication that the transmit side is mis-matched and most of the power is being reflected back to the transmitter. The great received signal is really irrelevant because cell base stations transmit high power...around 20 watts while our handsets are on the order of 0.3 watts or less so overall receive performance is going to be good regardless of a properly matched antenna.
Bottom line, I wouldn't recommend this.

Time without signal?

I'm getting a semi high time without signal. Is it my area or a bug?
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA Premium App
Mines low. Might be the area?
Sent from my Dinc2.
There was a bug in older phones, especially running 2.1. I had it with my Eris. I considered it a visual-only bug...meaning it didn't affect my battery life at all. You could tell if you had it because the Time without Signal would sit at exactly 50%.
From my limited use of my new DINC2, I don't believe it has this issue. So unfortunately it may be your coverage area.
To correct the TWS display, there was a fix involving airplane mode. This would drop the TWS number down after using the phone for awhile. As I said, I'm fairly certain it was inaccurate, as in my city I'm hardly ever without even a 3G signal. If yours is showing something other than 50%, then this bug is likely not the cause.
Mine is 1%.

Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA Premium App
Yeah what above said. I get 2 bars avg in my house and get about 800kbps, 4 bars I get 1mbps, They may be working on the towers out there also
Any chance you might have given them reason to throttle you data connection down?
I also experience dramatic drops in data speeds at peak times and it is location specific where I live. At 2300 in my neighborhood I get great speeds, but at the same time at work (which is full of people still awake and likely using their network) I get really bogged down.
Either a possible factor?
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA Premium App
I think the reason why people get horrible speeds at work is because there is probably too much electronic interference.
But then again, when someone says "work" I imagine someone sitting in a cubicle.

besides the "3G hack" is there anyway to prevent from being throttled on a non rooted 2.3.3 dinc2?
I was under the impression that even with the hack you can get throttled
But I also understand you need to be using GBs/month to make that happen. Most people would have a hard time getting there.
I stream Pandora ALL the time, and I usually get between 1 and 2 GBs of useage. I'm also using my phone for most of my internet browsing.

There's a lot of things that will influence your throughput. Signal strength is only one of a few. Signal quality and available bandwidth will also influence it. A strong signal with a bit of noise will cause problems.
Try *228 option 2, then reboot, and see if it helps.

Verizon is cracking the whip on "free" tethering. I read in an article that it can be tracked if your phone is on gingerbread. I'm not sure, maybe one of the devs could weigh in, but I read there was code written into GB to help them track it. If I can find the article, I'll link it.

I am currently having an issue where I almost always have 1x. When I used to.always have 3g. Verizon said there are no outages, and i am having this issue in about a 50 mile radius. So its not just 1 tower. If I start to use data. The signal on the top of my phone will.flip back and forth from 1x to 3g constantly once a second.. but it.won't show any data moving. I can only use data from WiFi. This is happening on.newts incredible sensation ( previously worked ) and the incredible hd sense 3.5 ROM. I have tried 228 option 1 and 2. I dunno...I fired up Google Earth on my lunch break sitting in my truck at work. I tapped "my location" and it flew in and was only off by 1 parking spot. I'd say that's pretty accurate.
So far as the radio strength I'd have to agree...usually it works fine for me, but some times I can't get a signal with it on my center console but if I put it in the door-handle pocket it works fine. I think that might be software tweakable...
You can try gps aid from the market. I used it on my epic and it helped but this phone works a lot better than my epic.

All my other phones put me withing a few feet of my location, nor more than a few yards off in most situations. This has constantly had me at least a half of a mile off. I has me in an adjacent neighborhood at home and a half mile out in the river at work. i have tried all the settings. I am leaving work early today and going to Sprint for a possible exchange to another Touch. I already anticipate the run around but if they cant get me at least in the sprint parking lot, I am demanding a new phone. Its to the point where I cant use my GPS because it is totally inaccurate.

How long does it take you guys to get a GPS lock... Sometimes it take 5 minutes...
For me, I have never seen longer then 30 seconds. Usually less then 10 seconds.
I was goofing around with QPST the other day and noticed that there are Unpopulayed GPSone settings. Does this phone support GPSone? I populated the entries with data from my old phone. I don't think it made a difference, I just did it in the name of experimentation. What's the worse that could happen, I just have to reload my saved NV settings.

Personally I like having a second phone to quickly and easily show off something cool on the new phone via video. I had a d2g that had a bad esn (I thought I could use it in Europe, but was locked out there too) and I used it a lot for that.
Also I use it when going abroad, as it will work in Europe and the states.
Also, I love using my old phones as alarm clocks. You'd be amazed how many days an old BB Curve will last with all the radios turned off. I'm guessing a Dinc2 would be good that way too.

really on all these ideas. I still have my Eris (though the trackball still scrolls left) as an emergency backup, mp3/Pandora player for in-house and garage (anywhere WiFi reaches), and white noise machine for sleeping baby.
Sometimes wish it didn't have that trackball issue so I could use it more efficiantly, so a fully operational DInc2 laying around would be an awesome thing to have.

Yea, I used up all the paper in the house. It only lasts for a short while now, but it does work for a little (usually). I even replaced the trackball with a blackberry one. I was thinking about trying just caking the area around the trackball/circuit board with JB weld to prevent flex which I think is causing the intermittent contact issue caused by the location of the charging port in relation to the trackball.
Ah well, either way it is extra and it wont be the end of the workl if I destroy it!

htc/Verizon asks that you place your inc2 on end of barrel of a 12 gauge, insert 3in slug, make it rain incredible flakes. now your inc2 has been officially updated by Verizon
Like someone else mentioned, the phone could be used as a VOIP home phone. All it requires is a Google Voice account and an app called GrooveIP (there's a free version, but the $5 full-featured version is definitely worth the money in my opinion). I also take it with me when I travel, since most airports and lots of hotels offer free WiFi, which allows me to make as many phone calls as I like without running up my minutes. I've been using my Inc2 for this purpose for awhile now, and it's very nice to have. I keep the phone in a dock and also use it for streaming music when I'm home as well as for my alarm clock. Just because the phone isn't activated on a wireless plan shouldn't mean that it can't serve a purpose.
Only other piece of advice; I would steer clear of ICS/JB based Roms if using it as a VOIP phone. I had nothing but trouble with the audio settings on GrooveIP. But the stock Rom, or any GB-based Rom should work fine. I use MROM (which is CM7 based) and it works exactly as expected.
