I'm assuming I need to create a Goldcard, just wanted to check first.
I have a Desire HD from Three (3) UK, which has a custom boot animation with the 3 logo, and has some 3 branded apps that cannot be removed via deleting.
Am I right in thinking that I need to follow to GoldCard Route to downgrade and root before flashing another rom?
2.3.3
Build 2.36.771.14
Yes, you need a Goldcard because you have a branded D HD
you can try gingerbreak, but it may not work.
If it doesnt work, then YES you need a goldcard.
for downgrading you can use a few methods:

or

for the first thread, if you're having any issues, please refer to pages 28 and up for answers

The goldcard procedure or downgrading is needed if you attend to replace your Rom with a custom one.
You can use your phone with any sim you like but with the specific rom you haver right now.

yes, all you have is the simlock unlocked. a goldcard is required to load a stock PD98IMG with a different CID.

Just wondered something. I have created a goldcard and flashed a new ROM successfully. I was looking at using A2SD but obviously I need to format my SD card. If I do this, will I lose the ability to flash a different ROM? Would I need to do the goldcard thing all over again?
Thanks
Liam
Hi,
I use a different SD card in my phone to the one i made as a goldcard, and can still flash any custom rom so you should be fine.
Shweet. Thanks dude!!
Goldcard is used to allow the user to flash mis-matched CID images. For example flash an Orange UK ROM to T-Mobile G2 (My understanding).
A goldcard is used to bypass the CID check so you can flash an "unlocked" bootloader which allows u to flash unsigned/mis-matching CID ROMS
If I'm wrong, please could someone correct me.
I used a goldcard so i could downgrade to root my phone. It the most recent roms from htc they patched the exploit which flashrec uses to root your phone to install custom roms.
Unfortunate
Yes, I also noticed that. I've created a goldcard but the CID still failed :-s Dunno really what to do to get over this. My problem was that I bought a phone but it was from indonesia and I wanted to install a European or a WorldWideEnglish version but the CID check failed so I had to use custom ROM... not too happy about it though.
If someone could find another way of bypassing this CID check please let us know.
Thanks in advance.
you only need 1 card!! when u format th goldcard it becomes an SD card once again,no need to have 2 diff cards

try using another card. it took seven cards to get mine working. i used a nokia 5800 8gb stock card.
be sure you are following the instructions correctly.
I successfully made a goldcard which I used on both my Hero (TMob) and another Hero (H3G) and flashed generic ROM's to them.
I've subsequently put the latest ROM's from the HTC website (for respective models) on them but can no longer use the Goldcard method! I tried using the card again, re-made it, tried 2 more cards with the same result..
Thought it may be of some interest
i juz bought an HTC Desire with Orange logo on rear battery cover....but its workin w any sim...so is it a locked version.....

the question: is my HTC Desire is locked version cuz it has the orange logo on the back side ?
My Desire is also Orange UK branded (black one, with the logo on the battery cover...) and it was locked. But I unlocked it and installed generic WWE ROM.

how 2 unlock ....n do i need 2 do that cuz my phone is working w any sim now...
If it works with any SIM already, then it's unlocked (mine was locked, so I had to unlock it).
In that case, your Desire is only branded. You see the orange logo when it boots up, right? If that doesn't bother you, then keep it. If it bothers you, then install generic ROM (you can find them in the Desire Android Development forum).

you will still need a goldcard to install generic rom
i also got my phone unlocked through htcunlock website. now it just the branded one with orange. so this means that i need a goldcard to intall any rom on it? say for example i want to install Pays Desire ROM, i need goldcard to do so?
please help as i seriously want to install rom
thanks
The way I understand it, since you own branded phone, you still need to pass CID (sd card ID) check in order to install new rom, and you can do it with goldcard
Yes, I had to use goldcard on my branded desire to install a generic ROM.
tried with goldcard but after 45 attempts i gave up completely
You must be doing something wrong.
Would you share with us at what step you get stuck? Maybe someone can help...

yep, he forgot to root it first
no i didnt forgot to root. i tried each and every step over and over again, as told here in the forums and also at modaco... but wasnt able to. can someone please post a guide for doing the same? an easy one.... step by step guide with links to the required files.
you need to provide step by step details - what did you do, and where it stucked
I'd also like to put a generic HTC ROM on my Orange Desire.... I found flashing winmo phones easy... but I cant find any Andriod noob guides that really explain how to do it easily enough.... I dont even know what rooting is to be honest!
Try to follow this guide:

As title says really , have a locked branded phone om T-Mobile UK , have paid for an unlock code and unlocked it to any network , does this still need a goldcard for rooting now ?
or would it be classed as an unlocked phone
Thanks
It is an unlocked phone, but it is still carrier branded due to the ROM, so yes you will need a gold card.
Regards,
Dave
Thanks for the quick reply Dave
So once flashed using gold card and unbranded will it still need goldcard then ?

yes the branding is hardcoded, once you have debranded you can flash custom roms from recovery with no need for a goldcard, but you will always need one to flash an official stock rom
Many Thanks
Hi guys,
I've got a buddy with an HTC Desire SLCD and HBOOT 0.93 with T-Mobile (DE / Germany) branding as far as I know. He'd rooted his phone with unrevoked3.
Now his phone stops booting while loading the bootloader. He still can enter recovery-mode, adb and bootloader but it will not boot.
We tried to flash back the default RUU but it always says that our Version is outdated. But there is no newer one out there. He also got a GoldCard (well.. I think so. We've created it with the Tool and after that had no effect I did it the old way with the Hex-Editor. I don't know how to check if its a valid GoldCard).
We already tried this: http://android.modaco.com/content/h...o-com/321558/solved-desire-slcd-bricked-help/
and many other things like flashing another rom or someting.
Hope one of you can help us cause he's really sad about it.
Thanks a lot,
AndroidChromeOS
Just go over to everything you desire is here find the original ruu for your device and run it, It should get you back to stock froyo.
Then run the unrevoked tool and your done.
Yeah but I can't find my default ruu.. I don't know where to get it could you help me?
If you've got a goldcard, you could try this ruu:
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.exe
Okay I'll try that but how can I see if I got a valid goldcard.. could it be, that it hadn't worked?
Just try the ruu, you'll get a CID error if the goldcard hasn't been created successfully.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
All right thanks I'll try that tomorrow when I get the device again. Thanks in advance.
Haha it worked
Man he is so lucky about it.. Thanks guys.

Hi,
a gold card is a customized sd-card. Search for the GoldcardTool. That's a tool to create the goldcard easily. Then just download mikep99's RUU and start it.

I have an unbranded DHD with Android 2.2.1 running on stock rom for India, today i tried to downgrade to 1.32.405.6 using the RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.32.405.6_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155891_signed.exe but it keeps giving me customer id error, I also downloaded the PD98IMG for the above rom and when i try to update it says CID incorrect, after searching I found that I need to create a gold card. My question is why do i need it, is creating a gold card the only solution. I have an unbranded DHD. Can anyone pls help me downgrade so that i can install a custom rom for my unbranded indian DHD

You tried this description, and followed it word for word?
And to my knowledge you should not need to create a goldcard when you have an unbranded device.

Sorry but the same customer id error even when after following the guide u mentioned

I had the exact problem. I created a goldcard, and everthing worked out fine. Not sure why a goldcard is required even when our device is apparently unbranded, but anyways, goldcard does the work.
Try following this guide:

Thank you so much for replying. I have yet to try out the guide you have mentioned in the link, however, I do need to ask one or two questions:
1. If I create a goldcard, will I be able to ever upgrade to the Official Gingerbread ROM, when it is released for India.
2. Can I switch between ROMs (stock/non-stock) seamlessly, without any complains.
I would really appreciate if you would really help me out here.

I had the same problem with downgrading to 1.3 as of the PD98IMG.zip. tried for 2 days and i kept getting the CID incorrect error. finally it came to me..i wasnt running the command prompt as administrator. it worked like a charm for me. that might be the reason why you're getting the CID incorrect error.

For your first question, no. And it has nothing to do with goldcard. I you are rooted and use some custom rom, you will not receive any official updates. Although you can at anytime go back to stock to get them.
But beleive me, when you start using custom roms, you do not need the official updates. I too am from India, and was waiting for the official 2.3.3, but finally a few days back decided to root and go for custom rom (RCMixHD Kingdom). And i am loving it..
So go ahead, make your goldcard.
And yeah, for your second, yes you can. Although, i dont think you will ever..
