Hi I have a Branded Desire from T-Mobile and I need some help. I have been reading the forums but I am still confused.
I want to get the update Froyo onto my phone.
What do I need to do? Do I need to root it? Or flash it? Or just unlock it?
Thank you for your help
Raminder
Debrand it to a stock ROM and do OTA updates. Use the goldcard when doing updates though just to be safe (made during debrand process)

Guys, i'm not an Android newbie but never flashed ROM's etc - could I have a bit of help pls?
I've got a Vodafone ROM, going to debrand my Desire, using a Goldcard and then install the generic 2.1 sense ROM and then request OTA update. Got that whole process figured out etc
What I want to do is backup everything first. I'm not rooted and i'm going to use the 30 day trial of mybackup to backup data. I want to backup my apps too if possible - am i right in thinking Astro have a program to go this?
Will it all be fine to do backups to my SD first, create a goldcard on another SD, flash the other sense ROM, then update to froyo and then finally take out the goldcard, put the other SD back in and restore everything?
Any help would be appreciated pls!
After debranding you can sign in to the android market and download the apps again from the downloads option.

When you say debrand ... what is that? Rooting? or Unlocking? Sorry for the noobness!
Is there a reliable guide to debrand my Desire. Mine is also Vodafone locked:
HBOOT-0.80.0000
I don't know how to find my rom version. I really would like froyo soon, thanks!
Hi mine is branded to 02 only with the splash screen and unlocked, I found a Stock rom called
RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.3_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_121865
If i put this on and then checked for updates would this allow me to update to Froyo 2.2????
Any help would be greatfulllllllllllllll

Debranding is flashing the phone to a stock ROM which doesn't have any network branding. It doesn't unlock the phone to use on other networks. If your phone is locked to a network you could always buy a code from eBay to unlock it.

O2 branded
mine is O2 branded and the said that it may take a few weeks. A big NO on waiting.
i have found

Yes it should work. I use a WWE ROM as it has more languages and apps available for it. It also worked just fine for me on the OTA update.

Did you use the HTC sync app on windows to transfer the new rom, and did it go smooth??????
Tried both roms europe and wwe and kept getting error 131 customer id error any advice
I'm going down the de branding root now. I'm on a branded t-mobile desire in the UK.
Already created my goldcard, currently downloading RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.3_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_121865.exe
Has anyone got any newbie tips that i should be aware of.
Hopefully should be able to download the froyo OTA then.

Usually caused by dodgy goldcard

After you debrand, do you get any updates from your carrier that could mess it up, or do you just get them from HTC directly?

I've heard the Desire becomes simlocked after a debranded using a goldcard?
hi,
has anyone that used to be branded to t-mobile uk updated to 2.10.405.2 from 2.09.405.8 without any problems like wifi, loss of network or simlock? Update done with goldcard in of course
if all went okay please post below,
thanks
i debranded and unlocked my t-mob desire using goldcard for froyo update and now this latest OTA went fine no problems, goldcard inserted. Everything still works.
I have not unlocked will this cause problems?

You need your gold card in for ALL updates otherwise it fails to update correctly
I de-branded mine with RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe, made my sd card into a goldcard and then picked up the two OTA updates from HTC (2.09.405.8-1.21.405.2 & 2.10.405.2-2.09.405.8).
No problems so far.

I'm assuming I need to create a Goldcard, just wanted to check first.
I have a Desire HD from Three (3) UK, which has a custom boot animation with the 3 logo, and has some 3 branded apps that cannot be removed via deleting.
Am I right in thinking that I need to follow to GoldCard Route to downgrade and root before flashing another rom?
2.3.3
Build 2.36.771.14
Yes, you need a Goldcard because you have a branded D HD
you can try gingerbreak, but it may not work.
If it doesnt work, then YES you need a goldcard.
for downgrading you can use a few methods:

or

for the first thread, if you're having any issues, please refer to pages 28 and up for answers

The goldcard procedure or downgrading is needed if you attend to replace your Rom with a custom one.
You can use your phone with any sim you like but with the specific rom you haver right now.

yes, all you have is the simlock unlocked. a goldcard is required to load a stock PD98IMG with a different CID.
Hi.
I see that shipped-roms.com is shut down. is there an alternative site that i can get these original RUU's? I'm looking for Orange UK Bravo. I would say any UK one would do though.
Thanks.
orange didn't release any RUU's so no luck there. You'd need a goldcard and then use a WWE RUU
what about an alternative site to get O2, Vodafone, 3, or T-Mobile?

sorry, first time ive had to unroot and dont know anything about it.
are there any good guides available on how to do this? ive been searching google and youtube but can only find how to make a goldcard.
---------- Post added at 09:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:20 PM ----------
I would like to mention that i am not unrooting my phone to send it to Orange UK to be fixed or anything. I am unrooting it because i am selling it and the buyer doesnt want it rooted. In that case, can i use any carrier's original RUU?

What do you need an RUU for?
Y'all know HTC support warranty on the 2.3.3 GB release? Which is unbranded. This means you can flash this (if you don't get a CID error - for most of Europe) then it is warranty returnable without the need of a goldcard.

except the 2.3.3 comes with a bunch of bugs, and I've seen too many cases of people updating it and then the phone being stuck on the HTC logo... personally, I don't see the point of risking it.
what does it matter if its going for warranty repair whether it boots or not?

If you are S-off, you should be able to change CID to obtain Super CID, which basically SIM unlocks it. I've successfully done it here in USA without a problem; T-mobile phone working on AT&T network without requesting SIM unlock, just Super CID. Sorry I'm still a junior member here, so can't post links, but Google it, you should find info on how to Super CID.

I believe you misread my post. I said, IF you are S-off you can change CID to a Super CID (all 1's), which will allow you to use phone on all carriers, basically same as SIM unlock.

Once again. no. You are incorrect. Gaining S-Off does not allow you to use your phone with any carrier. You need to SIM unlock for that, and S-Off does not do that.

I'm sorry, sir, but you do seem to have trouble understanding my statements.
Just to set the record straight for everyone, please see this link, as it explains 3 ways to unlock SIM and explains Super CID a bit. Note, however, there is a warning out on XDA that the 3rd method listed on this site is not recommended as it caused issues on some devices.

We've not misunderstood your post at all. That guide is a temporary SIM-unlock method, if you ever set the phone back to S-ON it's SIM-locked again. The only permanent SIM-unlock is via a code
