Ok, so I want to flash up to myns 5 but I hear you need to update radios. I also read a thread where someone did the flashing in the wrong order and bricked themselves. I need help, do the radios nedd to be flashed first or the rom?

Full wipe, then Flash the rom first then the radio and then flash the rest one buy one.
Would it cause a problem if I flashed them all at once?

Flash then all before leaving recovery. Also when flashing radios make sure you let them flash if it looks like your phone is stuck just leave it alone for half an hour. When flaking then you will see an android with adb arrow or a box with an arrow coming out of it this is normal DO NOT PULL BATTERY you will brick your phone.

So basically it will stay there for awhile and disappear?

how old is your evo? when was it purchased .. when was it built?
did you check if you radios need to be updated??
this maybe unnecessary.
radio update.. is your biggest concern... once started.. you must let it finish... even if it looks like it is locked.. if you have to leave it run for 1hr.. let it run till it finishes.. till it boots back up to recovery!!!! make sure you have a full charge on battery!!!!
if you interfere with it.. the radio can be crapped.. and the phone has a high chance of being bricked.
I'm just worried about the brick part. I know if I flash a different kernel I won't need radio update, it's that correct?

i am a little worried on that question.. not sure if read it right...
are you asking?
if you can change the kernel.. INSTEAD of upgrading the radio?
answer = NO; they are totoally different things. Radio is way lower in the phone.. and is done deep down... that is why it can Brick your phone.
the radio needs to be updated.. once..
it will work with everything else...
unless a new radio is released.. but they do not change them very often.
then..
kernels and ROMs can be changed as often as you wish...
What I mean is stock on myns 5 requires a radio update however ziggy or another kernel does not. Is this true? The stock kernel needs the radio update or the rom?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
it is required for all new ROMs... and all new Kernels.
you need to do it.. if you dont already have it.
have you even checked if you have the new radios? how old is your phone?
boot into amon ra recovery. If you have clockwork recovery use rom manager to flash amon ra recovery.
Download myns's rls5 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485
download the latest radio combo update here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485
Place both files on the root of your sdcard
1.Backup apps via titanium or or some other method.
2. Wipe data , cache, dalvik cache 3x each.
3. Choose install zip from sdcard.
4. Flash latest radio update combo.
5. Follow all prompts. Be patient the radio flash takes a few minutes. DO NOT PULL BATTERY! Let it finish. It will go back to recovery when done.
6. Reboot device after radio flash complete. Then go to menu--> settings-->system updates--> update profile.
you have now flashed radio combo
Then reboot into recovery. Wipe data/cache/dalvix 3x each again.
Choose install zip from sdcard.
choose myn's rls5 and flash
enjoy
tim
I have some questions about what you just said. wipe 3 times, what's the basis? Also I'm not familiar with amon. One more thing I am confused about, didn't Myn post in his thread to flash the rom first?

the stock kernel need radios updated a custom kernel will not just flash the rom then before leaving recovery flash the custom kernel
So flash a different kernel before leaving recovery so I don't have to get a new radio?

Well I'm using warmsR5 and haven't update radios and its working great, I was scared as you, didn't want to brick my phone so what i did was,....download R5 and a custom kernel, save them in my memory card then...
I went in to recovery, wipe all, data, cache etc, flash R5, and before rebooting, wipe just the cache and dalvik, and flash the custom kernel, sbc 4.1.9.1 I think , it went great!
I think you only need to update radios if your planning to keep the stock kernel, let me knorr if this works for you.

You CAN use setcpu with a HAVS kernel, but doing so would be counter productive, as the HAVS basically has a built in setcpu. I still have it on my phone, just disable at the moment.

I am running sydicate frozen 1.2 w genocide kernel ec05. When I first rooted and installed my new rom n junk, I could flash any ec05 nocid noproblem but now I keep gettng FCs after flashin between a couple themes. Even if I clear both caches, hard reset, reinstall ROM, etc and try a fresh install w a theme. Everything I tried will still result in FCs now. I tried everything but reflash stock ROM and reflash SRF but I don't see how reflashing stock ROM then SRf would be any different. Any idea what gives?
Any help is appreciated.

You have data corruption. You will have to wipe everything and start over on a fresh Rom. Use the .zip in the SFR thread to turn on journaling once you have the new rom flashed.

Install your ROM, reboot, then CIQ, then Themes... Sometimes doing them all in the same CWM session junks'em up. =)

I'm running a ROM w nociq. I prefer nociq. I only do 1 flash per cwm boot. Unless its a boot screen or something that won't interfer.
Should I be running CIQ to prevent this? If so, is that even possible without flashing a ciq rom?

Dont know if this has been covered before... sorry if it has im very new to rooting, and also careful and don't wanna brick so i do read instructions I have an epic 4g touch and im running sfhubs fd26 rooted ics rom, my question is how do i apply some ofthese different themes for example tiffs twist of honey theme and i know its not safe to flash roms from ics so what is the best way to get a custom rom such as blazer rom what steps wld i take to go from fd26 to blazer rom?? I know that was two questions sorry I wanna start trying new roms and i didnt know if u go about applying themes the same way u wld flash a rom i use regular odin on pc.... THANKS IN ADVANCE I WANNA ALSO SAY I LOVE THIS FORUM AND CANT WAIT TO LEARN ALL I CAN AS THEIR ARE SOME VERY TALENTED DEVS ON HERE THANK YOU... Do i just go back to gingerbread and flash the same way i got to ics to begin with and if so is it el29 i hould go bck to?
Sent from my K1 using xda premium
For both applying themes or going to a different rom, you will want to Odin the el26 kernel. If applying a theme for an ics rom, remember to flash a ics kernel before rebooting.

Im on an ics rom right now i watched a qb king video that said u sould go bck to gingerbread before flashing anything... are u sure all i have to do is flash the el 26 kernel and why? Im on fd26 ics right now i have fd26 everything modem, etc... ##confused## : (
Sent from my K1 using xda premium
If you are wanting to flash a theme on the ics rom, then all you need to do is odin the el26 kernel, which is a gb kernel. El26 kernel has been shown to be the safer kernel to flash anything when you are on ics. After you odin the kernel, go into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik and then flash your theme. After you've flashed the theme, make sure you flash an ics kernel, as the el26 kernel will not work properly on ics. If you want to go back to a gb rom, again odin the el26 kernel, boot into recovery, wipe data, cache, and dalvik, and flash the gb rom and reboot.

ok I've rooted and installed clockwork recovery as per the instructions in the how to. Still each time I go to flash a rom I get nothing but the galaxy sII logo and it hangs there indefinitely. Did I miss a step in these instructions ? I'm on EL29 baseband if that helps.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7pWjmKCsoc
those are the instructions I used. and I don't think I've missed a step. I've reverted back to stock and re rooted my phone and installed clockwork. How do I get roms to actually flash?
Depends, what are you trying to flash?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
I see the link in your video is just for rooting, but you can get into CWM? did you try the auto root EL29+CWM? Also, if you are following to Devs instructions on how to flash the ROM you should be good to go. have you tried wiping everything first or just installing it over the previous ROM? i suggest downloading Calkulin's Format All zip. flash it before you flash a ROM.
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527041 its at the bottom of the 1st post.
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728
is this what you used for CWM?
yeah those are the things I used actually to get clockwork. It'll let me use clockwork, wipe everything install whatever but when I go to reboot to start it up it hangs at the galaxy s2 screen. I let it go for 2 hours last night. Any rom honestly would be fine at this point. I'm pretty familure with twrp, cwm, and 4ext from the evo 3d but nothing works with this phone.
Would the steps for flashing a rom say blazer for example be
Wipe data, dalvik, and chache.
flash zip from sd reboot? like normal or am I missing a step with another kernel or something?
it would be the same. but I use the Calkulin's Format All zip to do it for me. I know you do get a longer boot then normal because its building delvik cache but not two hours. have you tried downloading the ROM to your computer and then transfering it over to your phone? I had an issue a few days ago because of a bad download(good thing I had my nandriod). What CWM do you have? 5.0.2.7?
yeah thats the only way I do it actually. D/l from the laptop and copy it to sd. then use calkulins to wipe everything and it still just sits.
I just googled "flash ROM boot loop" it came up with something. What is your default launcher? Some people have had problems if they use for say go launcher or another launcher and not have one set as default. On calkulins ROM.

I am still on the stock rom. only thing I can do is root it with odin and and add clockwork mod with e4gtauto prog. I still have no idea whats going on.
So your on stock TW launcher?
Try flashing a different kernel. Like rogue, that is another recovery based off of CWM. That's what I use, well I use both and haven't had a problem. Another thing is get an MD5 checksum program for your laptop and check the file sum for integrity. Sorry it took me awhile to respond, finally have a day off.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
I actually tried flashing one wth mobile odin that I found on the cyanogenmod page. It booted to the android text logo and that was it. so thats a step in the right direction. Should I just flash it through clockwork after I flash the rom like normal?
That's your problem. If your flashing a GB ROM you need a GB kernel. If your flashing an ICS ROM you need preferably EL26 kernel then use CWM to flash the ROM and kernel. flash the rogue kernel in the kernel repository then try flashing a GB ROM. After that then you should be good to go.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
I appreciate the help so much dude. so When I get home I should flash the kernel through odin then boot into recovery n flash the rom n I should be good? or do I just boot into recovery n flash the rom then the kernel? sorry about so many q's.
No problem. That's what the forum is for. let me know how it works out for ya.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
And yes flash it through Odin and boot into recovery and flash your ROM. you can also flash the ROM in CWM and then flash the kernel right after you flash the ROM. It seems to be easier in CWM then Odin.

Get yourself back to stock with cwm. Pick a ROM and follow the directions in the op for that specific ROM. If anything seems unclear watch one of qbking77's videos on how to install that ROM. Qb has NEVER steered me wrong.

thats kinda what I've been doing. I got cyanogen to boot with the rogue et recovery fb27 and cm9 but market won't actually work. so I went back to stock. I actually used qbking's videos to start with and followed them and it still just hangs. This is the process I'm using.
flash kernel/recovery through odin.
calkulins wipe all
flash rom
flash gapps if needed for said rom
reboot.
I've also tried without the 1st step.
I've tried flashing the el26 kernel that everyone seems to say is safe through odin and that boots me into the recovery and I try to wipe then flash and it still does nothing. am I just flashing the wrong intitial kernel to begin with? I can't figure out why Im having this problem now since I've had multiple rooted phones in the past with no issues.
But now I'm back on stock gingerbread again completely just rooted and then the did the e4gtauto to get a recovery.
I rooted my sister's E4GT last year and she's still running Calkulin's E4GT ROM v2.6 and her current kernel is 2.6.35.7-SPH-D710.EL13-CL806482
She's still on Gingerbread, and I want her to enjoy the ICS experience or JB if there's any stable JB ROMs.
My phone is an EVO so I am not comfortable/familiar with the Samsung pitfalls. I don't want to brick my sister's phone.
On my phone I'd download the zip, and in recovery factory reset, wipe data, cache, dalvik, system, and then flash the ROM, but I've read that could lead to a brick on the E4GT.
What's the safest way for me to flash some ICS/JB ROMs for her to try out?

Just look at ICS roms and first few post to see how they perform. Flash away.
The safest recovery to use is el 26 cwm
http://chris41g.devphone.org/EpicTouch/Stock Repack/EL26/StockCWM-EL26.tar.md5 For Odin or Mobile Odin if you have that.
You can just flash just about anything once you are in that recovery. The only major difference for you to know is that once you flash the rom, the kernel that is packed into the rom will also change the recovery. Also I do not really think there is a need to use a wipe all zip just unnecessary and usually causes error's when installing certain roms.
Most of the newer rom's do come with a safe recovery, but if you are unsure and have not read much and verified that the included recovery in the rom is safe I would recommend using el26cwm.
You can also use this recovery, this one will boot straight to recovery
