I'm guessing they will put back the online directories tab (globe icon) at the bottom on the contacts screen.

Its something to do with gingerbread. It deleted gallery for me, then messaging and today it deleted the clock. I took it to Verizon and they are sending me a new one. Hoping it has Froyo on it. May be something you could look into if you want froyo possibly.
You have to do a factory reset from the bootloader to get it to come back i think. Thats what did it for me.

It has nothing to do with Gingerbread, but rather the Gingerbread update. Most likely, it has everything to do with Sense and an update HTC did to it.
Good luck getting Froyo on it too.
Just ran the update. I had already done a factory reset and my clock was still working by tapping the widget prior to this update. After the update my clock still works but I still don't have the clock app in my app drawer. So I still either have to tap the clock widget or search for the clock app to get to it. Haven't noticed anything different yet.

Yes you have to factory reset the phone after the GB OTA update. My market disappeared and gmail after the OTA. Factory Reset fixed everything except for alarm clock. One can do it through the settings>sd and phone storage.
The alarm and clock app will most likely be broken until HTC fixes it. They know of this issue. Factory reset will not fix this.
Update is rolling out now. Check and you'll have it.
I assume those running a rooted GB Ginger Sense ROM for example should avoid updating ?

As mentioned above you could try removing htclockscreen.apk, however it might be broken. Maybe try to flash one of the fixes from 2.1 and see what happens? Just nand. And yes, maybe themes/apps is the best spot for this.
Yes you can just remove the htclockscreen.apk... I did it last night after I flashed the new ava rom.

So do u have the vanilla lock screen now that u removed the htc one
I just removed my htclockscreen.apk and rebooted to test it out and I now have the vanilla lock screen. hth
One thing when you do this but...
Only thing about removing the htc lock screen is when you do this and you set your alarm you wont be able to shut it off. In 2.1 anyway. I dont know about 2.2. Can someone try this and see if it still holds true?

Should have known it was too good to be true. I tested the alarm and was unable to turn it off. Thanks for the heads up.
You have to set the alarm using the stock clock. I am looking for a vanilla 2.2 DeskClock.apk. Does anyone know where to get this?
I also tried flashing the vanilla lockscreen/clock from my previous fresh1.01 install but the clock app is a little messed up. Alarm works but there it force closes somethimes and has gibberish where some sort of info should display instead. Probably do to the tweaks to the apk's in fresh not working right in stock roms.

Does it seem to work properly in terms of sliding it to unlock? I'm not sure, but I think on 2.1 you still had to pull it down to unlock instead of sliding it to the right, which resulted in a weird animation problem.
Edit: Really, I wish I could just theme the Sense lockscreen to look like vanilla. I love the ability to pause music, manage calendar reminders, and use the Sense clock for alarms.

Astro isn't that great for modifying files in /system/. Try installing Root Explorer, there's a button mount /system/ in read/write mode (aptly lableled "Mount R/W").
If you don't want to spend the money, you could use ADB to get rid of it. The command would be something like
"C:\android-sdk-path\tools\adb.exe del /system/app/HTCLockscreen.apk"
Be sure I have the right path to the apk file because I'd hate to mess things up for you. Also, if there's an .odex file, get rid of that too.
Anyone using the vanilla lockscreen, does it look like it should?

Yeah, that's actually the page that I got that image from. I wasn't really clear in my post. I'm only asking if the vanilla lockscreen in Froyo still suffers from that same problem it had in Eclair. I was just curious because I don't have access to my phone right now. From people's responses, I assume it works just fine (apart from the alarm issue, of course).
When I get a text message I get this notification in my drop down bar that when i tap on just takes me to handcent, but it won't go away without me hitting clear in the drop down bar. it isn't the handcent notifier either. i don't think it is the regular messaging.app notification either as it wouldn't open handcent and it'd go away when I tap it. Yeah when I first installed. I can't even find the messaging app in my app drawer now. This has to be some sort of other notification because like I said it sends me to handcent and will not go away without tapping clear.
I'm really hoping someone here will be able to help me with this. It is annoying beyond belief I even had to disable my handcent notifications to stop the double notifications. I can't even check the default messaging app because it seems to not be here anymore, i don't even see it in system/app(s)
thanks guys
Edit: Incase you have signatures off I am running Cyanogen 6.1
Edit 2: Found messaging. Forgot I had it hidden with launcher pro. Notifications are definitely disabled on it too.
Update on this: I've went through every recently installed program and can find NOTHING that indicates some sort of notification. This is *really* bothering me because if I just reinstall CM6 I can't do a full system + data restore with titanium pro because i'll just be in the same boat.
I had this same issue with Handcent, and uninstalled it. Never knew why it would do that, so I turned to chompSMS. No issue since.

So I restored to the 21st (2 days before it started happening) and picked just a select few apps to restore, without data and solve it. I guess my only option now is going to be to do a wipe and fresh install, but I just don't feel like doing that right now. Really wish someone would figure out an easier way to do this
Edit: Guess i'm going to go ahead and wipe and reflash. Will let you know the results.

Ah okay. I don't think it was an app honestly. My belief is that it was some sort of corrupted data file. After I wiped and did a fresh install and redownloaded all of my apps from the market it works just fine.
Has anyone experienced this bug? I've seen it about 3-4x already. I can't pinpoint what's causing it. I think it might be due to the use of live wallpapers but I'll update if I can find the cause.
Anyway, what happens is when I wake up the phone, there will be ZERO icons or widgets on my home screens. There is absolutely nothing!
Also, when I open up the app drawer, there are no icons in there as well!
There are 2 ways to get it back to normal again. I can open up the task manager and open an existing app that way and then go back to the home screen. Or, I can reboot the phone.
Anyone else seeing this?

If you're still on stock and haven't unlocked your phone, I'd suggest taking it back to the store for an exchange... Without rooting, the only answer I might be able to provide would be temporary at best. Besides, if this is happening out-of-the-box (i.e. nothing done to it by the user), then you've been sold a defective product. What you're describing is not normal behavior for this device by any means.
Terminators run on Android...
This happens when a game or app uses alot of RAM (Deadspace, Shadowgun etc) but it should redraw I'd it doesn't its odd.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Just came in to say something similar happens to me, but its only temporary, and only one icon. I started a thread about it back in December, but didn't get any responses.
It usually happens on my phone when:
a) I install a new app from the market
b) I exit an app and go back to the homescreen
Scrolling to a different home screen will make it reappear.
This is the only 'bug' I've noticed on my phone, and I believe it is related to software. I'm not returning my phone because of it, I'm just waiting for 4.03 and hoping it gets fixed...
BTW, I'm on Stock 4.02 rooted (LTE)
same issue with a tablet
I'm having the same issue that you have described with an ASUS Transformer tablet TF101. The only way to recover is as you have described. I'm downloaded Beautiful Widgets (none active) and will remove, but as you've noted that it didn't resolve your issue, I'm not hopeful that it will resolve mine.
BTW, I ran honeycomb on this tablet since October and NEVER had this issue. I received ICS as an OTA firmware upgrade three days ago, and have had this problem repeatedly since.

Yeah ive seen this too, happens anytime a large ram heavy task just ocurred. I think google needs to tweak in an update.
So anyway, I was using Aviate launcher for a time. Then the latest MIUI Express launcher, then back to Aviate. Then I decided to go back to the native launcher. When I did, the Smart Notice widget appeared as pictured. Removing and putting the widget back does nothing. How do I fix it? Or can I fix it? Is this a known issue?
If this info helps, my ROM is the latest SkyDragon. I doubt a launcher switch (well, two) can do this, but I could be wrong...

Hmm...never got a notification on this reply. Sorry. But no, the DPI was unchanged.
Actually, I came back to this post to let you all know that I solved the problem by dirty flashing SkyDragon. That fixed it. My theory is that MIUI Express somehow screwed it up. Two reasons for that theory: 1) I used Aviate before with no issues (as a launcher shouldn't affect that sort of thing, anyway). And 2) Miui Express is not only a launcher, it also affects the dialer and other things, which may have caused a glitch with system files (being that ME is pretty all encompassing). I have yet to test this by reinstalling it. It's a small inconvenience to dirty flash again and then flash MoAB again on top of it. But that's my theory right now. It's kind of a long shot, I gotta admit.
Anyway, thanks everyone, for trying.

If you go in to system updates through the settings and check for the update, you have 3 options, No Thanks, Download Later, and Download Now.
If you click No Thanks, the alert goes away. It will even state in the system update app that the last update (on June 30th, 2105) failed.
Download later allows you to choose a time that better suits you.
And of course Download Now, starts the process right now.
Hope this helps.

From Droid-Life:
An update is rolling out for the LG G4 on Verizon, bringing a few features to owners, but nothing all that special. The software version is labeled as VS98611A.
Included is an enhanced Folio display while a call is taking place, an updated consistency for displaying contacts and non-contacts in the Dialer app, and an enhanced Advanced Calling feature. That’s it.
