Im reading about a fair few people who can't upgrade their unbranded handsets today.
Ive also heared a few noises that the update may have been suspended !
Yesterday was fine, I posted a walkthrough and link to a useful guide for debranding over on the android forum and most people were reporting back with success however today, two or three have mentioned that after debranding and installing a generic Rom they are getting the 'no update available, your handset is up to date' message when checking for the 2.2 update
Combine that with the thread on here about no update for unbranded T-Mobile and im beginning to wonder if somethings going on.
Most unbranded handsets will have most likely been updated by now so it will be interested to see if any more people who haven't yet done so are still offered the update.
don't know, but maybe they want to fix the issues before they roll out to more users.
Issues I have: GPS and WIFI don't work anymore. Pretty major, so I hope they push out a fix fast!
Today I should guide a friend to the OTA update. But she got same issue says device is up to date.
And she is unbranded no root stock 2.1 ROM. so sure something is going on in the HTC lab.
Exactly the same here - debranded a Vodafone UK Desire today and no update available :'(
Although if GPS + WiFi don't work for some people this is a pretty unstable release

No problem for me! Sorry for you.
It's wierd , I have an unbranded Desire with a Virgin sim in it. when I tried the check for software via mobile internet, nothing, said I was up to date, when I tried it via wifi, it updated seamlessly... No issues with wifi or GPS so far either. Best of luck to you though..
Yeah I had the option to upgrade yesterday and now it's gone, so +1 for the silently pulled theory.
I'm confused is the 2.2 update rolling out at the moment in the UK? I cant seem to get it on orange?
the funny thing is, wifi worked directly after the update (Sunday) but stopped working yesterday.
I tested GPS since I read other people had trouble with it, and indeed, no location fix for me.
I sent a mail to HTC support, hope they fix it soon.
they may have stopped it, but today isn't the first day I've tried it...
it didn't work on Saturday, Sunday, Monday or Tuesday either...
Pauly (op t-mobile thread)
someone over in t-mobile thread says you can't force the update through the check for updates button anyway, you need to wait for a service message?
Perhaps they are only sending the message out intermittently and I've been unlucky enough to be out of signal each time?

I got the update by manually checking on Sunday.

hmmm, thats that theory done then... contradicts HTC tech support apparently, but I'm not surprised by that
Thanks
P.
if it is unbranded, try occasionally. it worked for me.
Maybe they did pull it. It updated last night by checking manually on my de-branded T-Mobile desire. I've had nothing but problems with froyo. Switching home screens seems laggier, as does the browser. Also, my biggest problem is the battery life seems to have gone terrible for me. I unplugged at 8:30am, its now 6pm, and I'm on 50% and I haven't used it at all as I've been in work. With 2.1 I'd have 80+% left.

not pulled..i just checked and the update URL is still working

i hope this kills the rumour for good
I manually checked for upgrades on my unrooted and unbranded Desire on Sunday and it suggested Froyo. I hesitated to update cause I wanted to be able to root at a later time, and cancelled. When I manually checked for upgrades today, it claimed there weren't any. To me that also suggests that they pulled it.

Yep, I reckon so.
It certainly explains why people following my walkthrough for debranding over on the android forum haven't been ale to update to FroYo today yet yesterday and maybe even early this morning things were fine.
can't seem to update today either via 3G or WIFI
htc '2.2 was to a small number of devices to test it' :O

I think if you cancel an update Desire will no longer ask for it. (I think I read about a similar case in a Bulgarian forum which happened on the day of the update)
I just can't find the latest firmware neither in support site not via Firmware update section in Settings.
Just a thought, maybe HTC cooking something.

If you want the full ROM for an unbranded Desire then click the one in my signature. It's the latest one, 2.29.405.2
I also try to make an update through OTA and nothing appears.. any news why?
And 1 more @ EddyOS:
If I download this rom from your signature link how will then install it ? Thanks!

Is your device branded somehow? If it is, don't try to apply any update. You'll just have to wait...

No it's not branded.
Well maybe its for the better. Only thing that i got from this OTA are problems.. Battery temp is higher then before, and there is problem with installing apps from market( maybe its not related but it started to happen after upgrade)
No root
Hi, the same with my Desire... I got the update offered once, I canceled that and from that time never offered.
I assume I should wait if I don't want to root right?
It seems that HTC removed the update. It isn´t even listed on their website anymore.
It might have a reason that they did so, but i didn´t find any information about it yet.
(I too got the update available-message which i also cancelled. 2 days later (3 days ago) i tried a manual search and i found nothing, even with friends phone on stock rom)).
C'mon guys, the update was obviously pulled for a reason. Do you really think HTC is denying it to your for s**ts and giggles? There's obviously something wrong with it and you don't want it on your phone.
Whenever I tried to do an OTA update it would download and then tell me the update is corrupted and couldn't be installed. I was running a stock euro ROM at the time.
In the end I gave up and installed a generic WWE ROM which included the latest update. Everything works just fine for me. The battery life seems much improved although I don't notice this as much as others may as coincidentally I've started leaving Bluetooth on for use with my car kit.

Guys be glad if you didn't updated your phones yet. The update only gave me troubles. Reception is worse the before, the phone feels more sluggish, I encouter more bugs...wished I didn't update my Desire...
You're an unlucky one, I've had no issues whatsoever using it
Agree... this update was great... it solved at least 4 problems to me:
1. the drop to 90% when removed from the charger
2. bluetooth connection to my headset greatly improved
3. when opening the first SMS on top of the message list it sometimes was opening the last one, not really a big problem but annoying
4. when writing long sms it sometimes would start an endless of conversion of "sms-to-mms" and "mms-to-sms" over and over again...
and so far have not seen any drawback.

I also had this problems! Really annoying..
I am also getting a lot of process failures..
So updating
EDIT: Damn, having problems -> here.
On screen keyboards look different I *think* - slightly bigger keys - (I was just messing on an iPod so may be mistaken!)...not noticed anything else.
I managed to snag this update via OTA. I'm on 2.2, unbranded, un-rooted. All is as HTC/Google intended.
Since installing this update I've noticed slightly better battery consumption, but I'm having a few FC issues. Downloading from the Market, browsing pictures, sending an SMS, using Twitter for Android will all drop an FC on me every one in fifteen times I'd estimate. This is up from never prior to the update.
I can only guess this is an issue related to this update as I never had this problem before hand, and I have more free memory on the Desire now than ever before after having a spring clean to find the space to install the update.
May not be this update, but it's the only system aspect which has changed since it began.
I havent had any problems updating to this.

Hi. I received an OTA notification yesterday (14/12/10) that a software update was available to download. I have successfully updated my unbranded sim-free HTC desire to 2.29.405.2. So far I have not noticed any changes to my device nor any adverse problems since the update.
Kind regards
Scott
Looks like it was either a server crash their end of just a staggered release...only thing really of note is a few app updates and smaller bug fixes
Just received the GN a couple of days ago from Google play store. Did the OTA update to 4.4.1 and then unlocked the bootloader following these instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529058
Did not root yet... thought unlocking was enough excitement for the day...
Never checked if flash worked before I unlocked, I don't think that would have affected it.
Anyway, camera flash or using TeslaLed doesn't work. I decided to do a factory reset and it worked for about 3 flashes... I thought it was fixed. But tried it again later and didn't work.
I'm thinking this is a hardware issue, but the weird thing is that the camera isn't listed in Settings>Apps>All... although the camera works minus the flash.
Also, If I were to send the phone back, can I do a return and replace through Google since it is within their 15 day return policy or would I have to go through Samsung's warranty?
Thanks!
Anyone have a clue as to why a stock ROM GS3 (after the latest update) would be randomly shutting itself off? (Ithought this issue was to have been fixed in the latest ROM?)
I have LTE disabled, and only a few apps on there...

I had mine exchanged for this very reason, I was still in the trial period and received a new unit.
I'm having the same problem with mine every 3 days or so.. I also had the sms code 98.. But a simple phone call to sprint fixed that.. I should of said something about the restarts but I figured nothing would fix it besides an exchange which I plan on doing maybe next week..
Wait, so your saying this problem started happening AFTER you did the OTA LG8 Update...or its been happening since you purchased the phone? If its been happening since you purchased the phone, I would strongly advise exchanging it or wreaking hell on earth in a sprint store if they refuse. When you pay $500.00+ for a piece of hardware, there is absolutely no excuse for it not to work for years. I have not experienced this problem with my phone, however, I would strongly advise installing BlazerROM or StrongSteves Blue ROM. It could be that the OTA update you did was a bad flash. Find a stock tar around here, ODIN back to stock, and do the OTA updates again...or install a custom ROM like I advised earlier.
Yes, it started shutting down (not restarting) AFTER I did the OTA LG8 Update.
I spoke with Samsung last night and they offered to pay shipping both ways if I send it in to have it fixed.
Also, they suggested a hard reset, which I did, so I will see how it goes today.
I have only had the phone for two days so far...and I may have Sprint replace it if the issue persists.
So I realize this isn't on the cutting edge of development, but I come here for info from the experts, and I didn't see any info posted about this OTA push.
So I'm still running stock ROM, rooted for tethering with CWM recovery installed, and I was trying to find some feedback on this update that was pushed OTA. I see vassosman started a topic the other day, but it was quickly closed.
Let me say that I was HATING my phone because scrolling would hang the phone for minutes at random times in the day with random apps and it was maddening! Several times I had to stop myself from throwing it up against a wall.
This OTA update completely fixed it! No need to re-root it either. I love my GS2 again!
So if you were skeptical of the update (I was because one of the listed fixes was "security enhancements" which sometimes means unrooting) I can say that my experience was very positive. I'm sure I probably should have connected to Kies and installed this update long ago. Life happens. I'm behind. I'm posting for others that are behind as well.
Does the LI4 update provide even more worthy fixes? Will I have problems with CWM installed?

Nope, as you stated it mostly had security improvements, but I doubt it affected rooting methods. People have reported that the normal methods to root the old firmwares still work on this one. So overall it wouldn't harm CWM or TWRP while using it, though you have to obviously reflash it

Im on stock li4, rooted using supersu and twrp 2.4. The same old rooting methods apply, no rules changed. Happy flashing!

I figured I would just add my experience in this thread.
My wife's completely stock GS2 had OTA updated to LI4 2 days ago and last night the phone shut off while in the middle of a call and will not power back on. No odin, no recovery. Nothing. Had to warranty exchange.
It doesn't seem widespread as I have not seen this reported elsewhere, but my wife is a mild user and was only using the most basic of apps. I think she was using Google Talk and Messaging and the Phone app at the time.
