Hey guys i need some help please.
I opened my phone up a few weeks ago to blow out some dust that got in behind the screen. But when I put it all back together again. The phone wouldn't boot, but somehow i got it going again. But since then, whilst using the phone the screen will randomly stop responding and then the phone itself will just crash,
Now, when I go to reboot (I have to take battery out and back in) HTC spalshscreen comes on then the screen just slowly goes off within 15 secs (my splash screen is usually on for about 20 secs and the miui splash comes on straight after when working).
I have to keep rebooting until the phone comes on and then it would work fine for 1-2 days before it plays up again.
If trawled through similar problem but still can find an answer. Please help me out guys, I need to get my phone working again as I can't afford a new one as good as this.
If it helps I have been running on miui xj for about 8 months

Hi i read the other day in the desire s threads and when u took the lcd screen off the digitizer (front of the phone) did u damage the tape glue around the edge that holds them both together? Because if u damage it even the slightest bit it and theres the tiniest gap, it will cause the screen to not work properly and give faulse/positive touchs and the phone to not work correct. Maybe this is not ur problem but i thought id say.

Well you theory does make sense, I didn't actually take the digitizer out but I did notice looking through the screen that theres a little gap there thats allowing all the dust to get in there. I have reinstalled ROMs a couple of times now but its still hit and miss. So you could be very right as I don't know what else the problem can be.

Nope im still having problems. I reinstall the the rom and itll be ok for a few weeks maybe then itll go on the blink again.
Im starting to wonder if there an issue with the software somewhere. But ive been using this rom for ages and not had a problem with it untill now
Hey.. I flashed cm12 unofficial ROM 2-3 months ago on my lg d855.. There weren't any major bugs.. But recently I noticed that sometimes when I press the power button to unlock it .. The touch screen seems to stop working.. This happens only on the lock screen... I Also tried holding the power button and try to tap the "power off / reboot" buttons.. It doesn't work too.. But.. The weird part is..when I sort of slap the screen it starts to work again .. My question is .. Is it a ROM bug? Or is it a hardware issue.. If its a software issue.. Then why does it start working when I slap it.. And if its a hardware issue.. Why does it only occur on the lock screen? Please help.. Thanks

Its not hardware issue for sure. Try to unlock with 3 fingers i think i saw this solution somewhere in the forum.

I haven't had this problem on the D851, but I would try updating your device to the newest version of Cyanogenmod.
Also, back when I had the G2 I went through this problem a lot and actually had about five of them because they were under warranty. The problem was that the seal for the screen would come undone, and it's hard to notice since the screen is literally the entire front of the phone. When this seal broke, water would seep in and cause chaos with the screen. Wouldn't work in certain parts and so much more. I haven't had this happen on the G3, but my seal has broken and I can see it, so it's only a matter of time before water gets in there (or until I get the screen replaced). I've always had this problem with LGs they're just so damn good that I live with it. I'd bet this is what's going on if it's not the hardware.

Absolutely... I can see... Whenever I press on the edges on any of the sides.. It sort of gets pushed in.. It looks like its not glued properly.. Its a bummer as the "screen" is the reason y I bought this.. From ur experience , does it stop working completely at some point?

If you can push it in then the seal is definitely broken.
On my G2, when in a moist and humid environment condensation would form on the inside of the device, but it was nothing too big and went away after a while. However, when too much fluid built up in the inside it began typing on its own. Furthermore, it got to the point where certain parts of the screen were unresponsive. This is why I had about five of them because over time it did get bad.
Although if there is water in the device rice usually absorbs it. Get a ziplock bag and fill it with rice. Take your battery, sim card, and sd card out, then place the phone in the bag full of rice. Seal it and shake it up a bit and let it sit over night. Keep the back cover off as well. If this is an option. I understand you might need your phone, but if you get a time where about eight hours are free I would highly recommend this. I have no idea how it works, but it takes the moisture out of the phone. I've done this with waterlogged phones, my G2, etc.
When I did that on the G2 it fixed my problems until moisture got back in there. I don't take care of my phones too well, so moisture got back in fast. Try this out and if it works just avoid keeping your phone in moist places (like playing music in shower, being on it while raining, etc.). If this fixes the problem it should hold you off until you can get the screen resealed or a new screen.
If it is with the hardware and its still under warranty I would get a replacement. I would revert to the stock ROM (if you made a backup) or find one and make sure it's updated. I would then do a full unroot, and attempt to make it so they cannot tell it was rooted. I would then attempt to get the replacement. Rooting voids the warranty, but if you unrooted I doubt they could tell. Furthermore, if you have insurance on the phone this could also work.
Edit: If you try the rice then try to replace the screen I would ensure that the current screen works properly after the rice. Make sure all the moisture is out before you replace the screen that way no moisture is trapped in there.

First of all.. Thank you soo much.. Thank you for the time.u put into these posts.. It has really helped me.out a lot.. I can totally see how the rice method could work.. But it has not got to the point where its un-usable.. As I said, its only in the lock screen.. It has never ever occurred during actually using it.. I haven't found any dead spots.. Nothing.. I'm asking this because I got this from abroad.. And it's not an international warranty. So there's no way I'm getting a warranty replacement .. So ive gotta make with what I have.. Well then I'd try to fix it before it does get unstable! Thing with the lock screen is you're swiping and the moisture defuses the area you're touching which could cause problems. Definitely try the rice! However, I wouldn't recommend gluing it yourself. I imagine it requires some sort of water and heat resistant glue to be effective, and on top of that a professional application. Hot glue definitely won't work! I imagine you want something that looks nice and I can only seeing that being messy and leaving residue. Furthermore, I'm not entirely sure on what lies beneath the screen and if disturbing that could cause further problems. However, I understand you're probably planning on it so please watch a guide such as: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcoEQVtUwYQ to see how it's done and what you need. There seems to be a lot more to it than just placing some glue on the screen and pressing it back down.

Sorry for breaking in, I have the same issue with 2000ftt, and I did tried "rice trick" but no luck. I think the screen is perfectly fitted in the case, when I press the edges, the feel is solid and no room for further pressing in.
My device is D855, I flashed many custom roms (resurrectionremix, CM12, Nameless ROM, CloudyG3 2.1), the mentioned issue happens to many of them but never happened in CloudyG3 & stock rom.
Any idea?

Yes, it is under warranty, I am going to restore stock ROM and take it to service center. But I don't know how to trigger the issue (touch screen no response at lock screen while using power button to wake up), in stock rom and cloudyG3, this problem never happen.

Thanks for reminding. I restored the phone to stock with the downloaded .TOT file, then go to service center.
I can't trigger the problem in front of the service guy, however, they ask me to left the phone for checking, one day later, they confirmed that my phone is working fine no need to do anything, nothing to be replaced.
CM12 is already good enough, its speed and battery friendly....
I wish developers of CM12 would somehow fix the problem in future updates, as I knew some D855 user (but not much) also having the same issue.

Hey guys,
I have this weird problem with my HTC Desire 816. When i put the phone for charging its showing the RED LED and the battery Symbol is shown in the screen but it never gets charged. I put the phone over night and still not a single % charge.
So i asked the owner , my cousin who gave me the phone about the problem and then he told me its because of water damage. he gave to the HTC people and they said it can't be fixed.
So now i'm with this good looking brick, not knowing what to do. Can it be fixed ? Has anyone had the same problem ?
When i put the phone for charging, the screen comes ON and shows the empty battery recharge Symbol and then gets OFF again shows battery Symbol, Kinda like Boot loop.
My mind saying i can bring back the phone to life. Can anyone help me some technical ideas which i can try ?

You can try unplugging the battery and plugging it back in. I think it's impossible to tell if the battery is bad or something else in the phone is bad without removing the battery. You can find replacement batteries on Ebay and other places on the net.
BTW you can find a video on how to open the back in the thread about replacing the digitizer and lcd. Basically you need plastic pry tools and you start @ the sim/sd card slots and go around popping the back off. The bottom half also has sticky tape holding the back.

So i guess its not an easy task. But i wont quit. I just need the right tools for the job.
should i remove LCD plug , Digitizer to take out the battery ? Lets hope unplugging the battery and plugging it back will fix. :fingers-crossed:

No, just remove battery. I used cut up credit card strips and whole credit card to help me get back cover off.

Using a CC made it easy opening the Back Cover , Unfortunately there's nothing i could do to bring back the phone to life.
Apparently the board is fried.
So that's it i guess. Goodbye to HTC.

I think most everything in a phone is modular to cut repair costs. You don't want to have to replace the main board if someone drops the phone and cracks the screen. Maybe you can sell the phone on Ebay "as is" for parts. It seems like the screen and digitizer still work and probably the battery too.
Hi, my apologies if my HTC is in the wrong forum, not sure where the Desire would fit, if anywhere.
Nonetheless this is a useful phone to me and worked fine till the day I had to jump in a lake to save my 5 year old boy from drowning. Naturally didn't have the time to remove the phone from my pocket before jumping in the lake. Kid was fine after swallowing some water but phone "swallowed" a lot of water. Let it dry in a bag of rice and baking soda for several days to fully dry. But when trying to turn it on, the screen just flickers non stop. However when connecting it to the computer using a USB cable, I get what appears to be a boot screen (see pic in address below). Phone was rooted and run CyanogenMod 7. Maybe someone that's familiar with the procedure could guide me? Tried a couple of the options shown but to no avail. Old but still decent phone, would like to get it working again. I've transferred the sim to another phone and I've saved the micro SD card. Just need to get the phone to boot again. PS: could the battery be toast? Maybe it got shorted when I first tried to turn the phone on while still wet?

I'd say leave it to dry naturally for a week or so and try again. If no joy then you could try a new screen but it's probably something really tiny and sensitive that cannot be replaced..

It's been 2 months. But I did make a crucial mistake: I tried to turn the phone on while still at the lake. This likely caused more damage than it needed.
However I suspect the issue is with the battery. It won't charge past 3.85 volts. And the display works just fine, once I press the key combo to enter the boot screen as seen in the pic above. Will try and track one down locally, hopefully a shop will be able to test it a battery in the phone before I buy it.
And yes, the boy was fine. But it was a close call. it is amazing how quickly something can go wrong. I neglected the lake rule of staying within arm's reach. Let this be a lesson to anyone with small ones: it only takes seconds for things to go badly wrong, even at a supposedly safe, man made lake intended for kids.
PS: 2 months prior an adult died on the same lake after falling off his boat. Another lesson: invest in swimming lessons. Scary stuff, indeed.
Right, i thought you were seeing that over usb via sdk or something.. You could always try opening it and inspecting for blown components. What damage can be done.. It's already useless.
I still think it's worth leaving it to dry naturally.

Hey guys,
So i flooded my phone, dried it, left in rice for 2 days and now when i connect it to my charger the screen goes up after a minute or so but its not charging. My screen shows battery icon with a bolt inside and a zero below, or battery with a cable inside and zero below. Any idea what can i do to fix this? I can boot to bootloarder mode, but when I'm trying to boot to recovery/other modes it goes back to 'charging screen'.

The battery is eeprom controlled so you probably damaged it when teaching the phone to swim. Flashing will do nothing for it.
Putting the phone in rice is a bad idea as it isn't as absorbent as you think. You should have left it over a radiator for a week or so to evaporate the water before even thinking about switching it on, but by then the damage was probably already done.
If it doesnt start working in week or so then expect it to be expensive to fix.

Not sure what eeprom is, but if its in the part below, then i could replace it myself with no problem. What are Your thougts? I know that more thing may be broken, but if it would go back to life i would be glad because I don't want to spend money on any new phone, maybe apart from S8/pixel but its expensive as hell.

If i couldn't repair this bad boy then I would probably go with 6s, but I'm not sure if I want to make the transition to iOS.
