So, today I was getting in the car right. My phone was battery back-less because I broke the old one and was waiting for a new. I live in south florida, and it's spring-time. The morning was a bit humid but I thought nothing of it. I turn my phone on and try to listen to some music right, but it wont let me open WM player. So I go and open something else and try to exit out. The X button won't work but the touchscreen does... weird. I then try to restart the phone. I keep holding the power button but no luck! So I'm worried and go to pull the battery out but to my surprise see a little condensation on the back of the phone. I pull the battery out and when it goes off I see CONDENSATION ON A RIGHT STRIP ON THE SCREEN. I go to turn it back on and try to do the same stuff. No buttons work, the X button and lock softkeys do not work, no hardware buttons do what their supposed to but they light up, turn the backlight on and everything!!!! I can't even do input with the touchscreen keyboard even though the screen works. Some programs I can and can't open. The phone was on for a MAXIMUM of 5-7 minutes, if that! I'm very surprised because It worked last night what leaves me to believe "Moister damage". Am I correct or is it a software problem. I cant hard reset because no way to type input. Haven't tried the sequence or mymobiler yet.... can someone tell me if the culprate to the death of my phone is moisture damage? I'm really angry now......

seems like sort of thing that could happen if moisture entered into your phone as that could cause electric shocks and considering the inner hardware and electrical components are very delicate even the slightest exposure to water vapors or moisture is a enough to damage them especially considering your scenario where you had no battery (and i am assuming you didn't have back cover either or you did?) but regardless as far as my understanding is this behavior seems in line with what you are thinking.
So no way to fix it.... I'm now phoneless. I'm so mad at myself right now....
I live in SWFL and unless you dropped the thing in a puddle I cant imagine the humidty down here doing that to your phone. Did you drop the thing in a puddle? The back cover is by no means air tight so I dont think NOT having a back cover did that too your phone.
Turn the phone on and plug it into your charger and see how long it stays on. There's a trick discussed here that talks about wrapping the phone up in paper towels and then putting it in a bowl of rice for 24 hours. That should suck any moisture you have in your phone out. Just do a search in the forum for "rice" or something.. I dont know.

I thought the SAME THING. That's why I thought nothing of it! I just did a hard reset on it the night before so no apps installed. I did go on Android but, I do that about 1-2 times a week. Only reason I think it's moisture is because of the "white smoke" I saw thinking it was condensation. It wasn't really taken care of for a few hours because I was in disney. When I got to the hotel I put it in paper towels. The touchscreen works, and I can open apps on the menu but not use them. Wont let input through. No hardkeys work either. I'm gonna try a hard reset.
I WAS WRONG! I just did a hard reset, and it fixed the problem! Had to do it the button sequence way but it worked! The last thing I did on it, the night before was go on Android. Everything functioned well their and had no problems. What I'm guessing is I got a bad boot or something that stopped some drivers from working. I figured this out by trying to download mymobiler on the phone so I could do a hard reset and it wouldn't let me open it because it wasn't signed with a trusted certificate. Whew.... this is A HUGE RELIEF.
ight just wanna ask everyone since the topic is mainly on "Moisture damage" i have a habit of using my phone as a shower radio...no i dont put it in the shower, i leave it on the sink farthest away from the shower stall, my question is....will this do any damage to my phone because of the moisture and heat!? because this is the 2nd time ive done it and i dont wanna continue until i get a word of approval from you guys

I wouldnt think it would damnage the phone. Unless you actually submerge the unit or dump water on it it should be able to withstand the humidity. It's not like its in the moisture for hours and hours just a few minutes while you shower. Keep your fan running while you shower and that should help even more; although the fan should be on while you shower anyway AND for at least 5 minutes after you shower (little known fact) to protect the drywall and structure of the bathroom.

Just let it do some thorough drying out. I had an old Kaiser i dropped completely in the toilet at work..lmfao You know i was pissed but..after some thorough drying and TLC, it just started wrking again like nothing ever happened. I let my father have the Tilt cuz i had already had a replacement one sent to me. Just told them i lost it. cuz u say water, they like warranty voided..lol Still wrks to this day, its his new toy till he get that new EVO 4g for sprint. he got the tilt to work with a prepaid sim card. im like dayumm..he showing something new..lol

Short Version: Phone worked, Sat for a month, doesnt get past cyanogen screen goes into protect mode.
Okay i bought an evo that had the screen replaced on it. The guy obviously didnt know what he was doing. So I dropped it one day and the digizer ripped off.( the flex cable ripped, The digitizer wasnt stuck down) So a month later, i finally got around to buying a brand new housing for the entire thing. I took the mobo out and put it in the new housing. It worked for about 5 minutes then gets stuck in a boot loop. I had it happen once, before i got the new housing, It took me 5 minutes to get it to work again. The phone would shut off randomly sometimes.
It worked fine before the screen broke off no major problems would shut itself off every 2 or 3 days. The board has sat in a bag on my table for a month and now it wont work.
Now i cant even get the phone to stay on at all. The cyanogen screen shows up it loads and then shuts right off (i have recovery) I have tried different kernels,roms, and radios. The phone goes into protect mode now. Can I hit with a heat gun and reflow the cpu like a ps3 or xbox? Is there anyway i can remove all hardware failure protection?

You have any insurance? Depending on how your morals are you could try to make a warranty claim on it (although after todays announcement I might feel bad considering theyre trying to help us out). Otherwise I would try flashing an RUU and if that doesnt work take whatever means necessary, although Im not sure why your mobo would be damaged after a month, have you tried cleaning it and blowing on it to get all the dust out?
My recommendation is to make sure you stretch first, then when you do throw the phone through the wall, that you make sure it's a wall that's going to be easy to repair.
Reading your post it looks like you bought a phone that was practically guaranteed to have problems.
You bought the phone equivalent of a lemon, so expect the same amount of effort into keeping this thing alive as if you were to buy a car lemon.

I've never looked into something that says "protect mode" for an EVO.
However, most electronic can do this if the thing is going to over-volt. If you think about car amplifiers, they do the same thing and go into protection mode which means that capacitor or something much more is bad.
I agree with the other guy and that you threw yourself into a bad deal from the start so it's as if you're going to be fixing something that's already inherited potential issues.
Have you considered that the replacement screen may be the culprit? Aside from the potential drop damage that could have broken something on the logic board, the another possibility is that the hardware you just installed could be defective and causing the EVO to do this protect mode.
In any event, the best solution would now be to work with a company to get a diagnosis of the problem. If you get a diagnosis only, you can buy your own parts and do it yourself if you're like a McGyver type-a-guy.
Find a credible cell phone repair shop and just get an diagnosis first.
So I was shopping for pants today, but I forgot I had my Desire in my pocket (front right one, if you want to know).
So, my phone fell on the ground and the battery and the cover flew off.
I quickly bought my pants and rushed out to see the damage...
IT WAS HORRIBLE!
The thing didn't want to boot, all it did was flash the red and green LED...
I (somehow) managed to get into bootloader to see the damage...
That was ALSO HORRIBLE!
The recovery kept restarting (4EXT, the loading screen that says 'preparing boot') and all I could do was take out the battery...
Thank god, Fastboot worked, so as soon as I came home I started running the RUU (from fastboot)...
Again, HORRIBLE!
when the RUU said the phone was gonna reboot into bootloader, it DIDN'T - the LEDs just kept flashing!
So I pressed power+vol- and that did the trick, but after the RUU finished ... again, flashy LEDs...
So, is this a software or hardware issue, and how to fix it (other than going to a guy and pay him to do it, which I'll do anyway if you people (god, no!) don't know the answer...)
I think I'll go to Fastboot next and clear all storage...
EDIT: Held the power button for a few secs, and the HTC boot logo shows up...
EDIT2: THE BOOTANIMATION!!! FINALLY!!!
Still, I'd like to know what the issue was, since it seems like it'll work normally from here on...?
Seems like all I've damaged are the LEDs and the camera Flash (the camera says it's too cold to use flash...)
I'll heat up the battery and report again

EDIT: Can't boot into 4EXT, no matter what... I tried CWM and it worked fine, but 4EXT won't...
And just today, I bought a new SDcard so I'd have more space and speed so I could partition it...
EDIT2: Also, the battery doesn't want to fill up... The second I take the charger out, it shuts down... Looks like I'm in need of a new battery... (curse my pants' pockets for being so big!)
It won't be bad to disassemble your phone and see if some connector disconnected.
How do I do that...? Is there like a hardware manual somewhere...? Because I'll need to know what screwdrivers I have to buy (I'm all out anyways...)
Yeah, it's probably the connector, since I can hear something shaking when I shake the phone (or it's something broken... hope it's the first thing)
Otherwise, there's a little power button glitch when turning the thing on... The LEDs flash and I can only boot if I hold the vol- button (can't do anything, not even bootloader!)

I found another glitch: The LEDs flash if charging even if the battery is 60 meters away... I don't believe that's a sign of a disconnected connector... Hope it is
EDIT: Installed SetCPU, and my battery has been at 0% for the last 12 hours (without charging)... And the phone works... It just won't turn on sometimes...

Is it possible for a connector to break? And if so, if one is broken in my phone, is it possible to replace it...? (haven't gotten the screwdrivers yet...)
If not, do I have to replace the whole cable, whole motherboard or only the component of the connector...? Or even the whole phone...?
I just popped it open... Now what? I disconnected and connected every single connector, reassembled it and the LEDs still glitch... And the phone won't go beyond the boot logo...
Could it be the battery? I saw a new scratch today, could I've damaged the battery and that is what's wrong...?

For any doubters, here's a story. My Captivate Glide decided to take a little swim in the toilet Friday night (don't ask how or why, because even I don't know), so I dried it off and all the works. I also decided to take part in that rice myth for waterlogged devices. I checked it the next morning, and it still didn't work. So later that afternoon, I was ready to go to the AT&T store and make an insurance claim, and to my extreme delight and surprise, it turned on. Only a couple keys on the keyboard are sticky, but I don't use the keyboard nearly enough to justify a $125 deductible.
So moral of the story is that
A.) the rice myth works
and
B.) the Captivate Glide is one resilient phone!
Keys are sticky? Try wiping them down with lens cleaner ive done that for sticky keys

Hopefully, at least, you took a picture with it, while you were down there.
(Before it died, that is. And auto-saved to sd card, of course.)
From speaking with people who specialize in remediating electronic devices (smoke, water), it seems the single most important thing is to get all forms of power away from the thing as soon as possible.
Including what would be the CMOS battery in a computer.
Apparently it's the (micro?) corrosion between power and water that kills it.
If I had done the dive, I'd be freaking out and ripping the case apart to get at any battery. Probably doing the case in in the process, in my panic.

Rice thing? Pack a dunked device in a bag of rice and leave it for a couple of days? Perhaps with a good fan going nearby? (When my basement flooded, even though only a couple of inches deep, they brought in some industrial fans for several days. Even if the water seems gone, the humidity is still way high, and that's gotta come down, too.)
A while back i used to "try" to root stuff. I sucked at it BAD. Anyway, I have a Galaxy Note 8.0 (GT-N5110) that I had rooted to a certain point (very superficial) and I just kept it the way it was, that way I could use Multi-window for any app. This morning I unplug my tab from the charger only to be disappointed that it will not turn on. Ive tried different power outlets, different cables, different base chargers, even the whole "power+vol_up+home" thing... nothing. I never updated the tab when Kitkat came through the pipeline. Im freaking out that a new major update automatically happened overnight or something. Im sorry to trouble you all, but does anyone have suggestions? Since it's rooted I can't take it to Samsung or Best Buy. Honestly if I could just get it back to stock, that would be awesome, but im more concerned about getting it to simply turn on. Any Ideas?
If your device is rooted you won't get an OTA update so that could not be the problem. You can try to unplug battery (mus open the device)"and see what happened. Maybe your battery is faulty or someting else.
K... I appreciate it Ill take a look. But, lets say I actually open it (without making things worse), how do I determine if the battery is in fact faulty? If it is, can I get a replacement? preferably an official samsung one.

The problem with this device is you cannot pull out the battery easily. Maybe after that steps it boots up again.
Battery removal wasn't bad... now I'm just waiting for a new one (ordered on ebay, crossing fingers hoping it was legit). What did you mean "after that steps it boots up agin."? Will the tablet boot up without the battery if it's plugged in or something?

Wow, that suck. sorry for you man. For now, try to plug the tablet to a computer and while device manager opened and see if there is change. If the change say "qhsusb" or something along that line and not your model number . . . changing battery wont do anything because it's already hard bricked. if not, finger cross.

No. But sometimes after this step and reconnecting the battery the device boots up. Also a battery calibration is done.
I tried plugging in the tablet to the computer with the old battery and then without any battery. Neither one prompted anything in the device manager. Today I got the new battery (assuming its legit and in good condition) in the mail. I plugged it in, and nothing. Plugged the tablet with the new battery to the wall charger, nothing. Plugged the tablet with the new battery to the computer while running device manager, nothing.
I'm going assume that the new battery is dead and let it stay connected to the wall charger for 8+ hrs, and see if there are any changes.
I just really don't understand what the deal is and why this would randomly happen. Ive never had problems with the firmware or anything. I have felt like there was an issue with the battery being that it doesn't seem to be keeping much of a charge... but for it to just Hard Brick like this seems so out of the blue. Can anyone provide me with additional suggestions please?

Is there any way to test if the batteries are food? That way I can at least determine if the tablet is in fact hard bricked or just bad batteries.
Might not be what you want to hear, but if different cables, chargers and batteries don't work, then maybe there was a power surge overnight while the device was plugged into the wall that took out the device (I once lost a computer that way and now I only use surge suppressors (note that not all power bars are proper surge protectors! See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surge_protector ) that are UL 1449 certified with a low clamping voltage and high energy absorption rating as a minimum; the fancier ones can even tell you if your wall outlet has a grounding problem). Or your tablet's USB port is broken, but that doesn't make sense based on what you've said thus far. Or you're just super-unlucky and all of your replacement parts are also faulty (it could happen). Either way, I've got my fingers crossed for you!
In the meantime, a multimeter would be able to tell if the batteries hold a charge, and whether or not power flows to the device when the battery is attached or the device is plugged into the wall or computer.
Just make sure you read up on how to use one first so you don't accidentally electrocute yourself:

Ill definitely be looking into this option in depth tomorrow, and deeply appreciate it. At least it's something. T_T I don't want my tablet going to electro grave. This sucks so bad. This has been a month from hell
First my printer decides its time to start printing crooked over a couple of months, getting so bad that it jams up a few weeks ago, requiring me to get a new printer, which has been a fiasco in and of itself that still hasnt been resolved. Ive gone through 4 printers in one week, all of them different model printers, all from HP, and each and every one of them defective.
Then my laptops video card tweaks out because of installing Splashtop Stream, which starts a domino effect requiring me to do a factory reset on the laptop.
Then my Tablet just decides to kill over.
Then my Microsoft Arc mouse decides it doesn't the want to wheel to work requiring me to purchase a new one, and when I receive it, the cover for the battery compartment is missing and the wheel click is defective. It took 2 and a half weeks to resolve
Then I get bronchitis.
all in less than a month.
Alright, ya... it's dead. Oh well. Here's me trying to make the most of it: are there any places that buy bricked tabs? I figure the parts have to have some sort of salvage value.... maybe.
You can't go to a Samsung service shop? They might not fix it under warranty, but I assume they'll have a look at it and give you an estimation? I feel for you, we all have had these awful weeks... I soft bricked my pad, my computer started to play up, my other computer decided it wanted to die after years of hard work and not skipping a beat, my son got the flu, the missus was on her monthly(grumpy wife..take cover), and when I took a break from it all on the toilet I found that we had run out of paper! To make matters worse, my favorite football team lost from a second division team.. This all happened in one single day! So chin up, it might take a week, but when all it's fixed again you'll experience deep appreciation for the things you have taken for granted.... (xda fixed my tablet, time fixed my wife)

K, So first off I took the tablet with extra battery to a tech place in the area that said the batteries are fine, but when they put a multimeter to the motherboard nothing came back. Basically its dead according to them. There's one more shop in the area I want to get a second opinion from. Next, does anyone know anything about an app called "Splashtop Stream"? I'm a fond user of Splashtop to control/view my computer straight my tablet, but when I installed "Splashtop Stream" to use the tablet as an extended screen (not just a cloned second screen), my tablet and both computers I tried it with did NOT like it. I immediately uninstalled it, but it dawned on me that it was just a matter of days later that my Tablet died. I hate to grasp at straws, but if an app like that is too resource intensive, I'm okay with seeing a connection that it fried my tablet. I can't just ask Splashtop "Hey, does your app fry motherboards", so I need a way of researching legitimate known problems. I can't afford a $400 tablet right now.
The reason why I'm using Samsung as a last resort is because it's outside my warranty time, and the moment they know that I did even the simple fast-mod on it, they'll slap it down and won't help. There no custom boot or Roms on it.
With all this said, any suggestions anyone?

Basically its dead according to them. There's one more shop in the area I want to get a second opinion from. Next, does anyone know anything about an app called "Splashtop Stream"? I'm a fond user of Splashtop to control/view my computer straight my tablet, but when I installed "Splashtop Stream" to use the tablet as an extended screen (not just a cloned second screen), my tablet and both computers I tried it with did NOT like it. I immediately uninstalled it, but it dawned on me that it was just a matter of days later that my Tablet died. I hate to grasp at straws, but if an app like that is too resource intensive, I'm okay with seeing a connection that it fried my tablet. I can't just ask Splashtop "Hey, does your app fry motherboards", so I need a way of researching legitimate known problems. I can't afford a $400 tablet right now.
The reason why I'm using Samsung as a last resort is because it's outside my warranty time, and the moment they know that I did even the simple fast-mod on it, they'll slap it down and won't help. There no custom boot or Roms on it.
With all this said, any suggestions anyone?

I randomly bumped here and I'm no expert, but if your tablet's motherboard is indeed dead, I believe there is absolutely no way they can tell that the device got rooted at some point. You did not "hard brick" it, that's a whole other thing, or at least so I've learned in my not-very-long experience. "Hard brick" should be the result of flashing a kernel made some other device, which definitely is not your case. Moreover, that does not kill the motherboard, it just makes anything unbootable: it's a software problem, so it can actually be detected. You had a hardware failure that most likely completely wiped any proof that you have ever modified your device, so the only problem that you might have, I think, is them telling you that they take no responsibility for what your power outlet has done to the device, but they shouldn't be able to detect any modification that you have made. In my opinion technical support is worth trying.

Just thought Id let everyone know that I managed to get Samsung to compromise on the matter since the Tablet is only 5 months past warranty (1yr 5mnths since purchase). So, not much longer and hopefully Ill have a tablet that works yet again.
