Thanks mate! Greatly appreciated. Time to get my phone sent off for blue-tick upgrade and wanted to flash stock ROM just in case.

Telstra Moto Defy's were originally marketed as Blue Tick compliant handsets which means Telstra's testing has shown that they offer superior coverage in rural areas. Basically, between the time Telstra did this testing and graded the phone as blue tick, and the time the phone actually went on sale, Moto changed the hardware spec of the phone slightly. This hardware change resulted in the Defy falling just below Blue Tick standards. Telstra was initially unaware of the hardware change and continued to market Defy as a blue tick handset. Telstra then discovered the issue and basically offered customers who had purchased a Defy up to that time to send their phone back to Motorola to have their hardware changed back to that original spec that was blue tick complaint.
So the Blue Tick upgrade improves the coverage of the Defy slightly.
Clear as mud?

Yes, correct.
In addition to this I want to add that I spoke to Motorola to get my Blue Tick upgrade, the rep told me that there is a misconception that the Blue Tick issue can be corrected with the 2.2 update, which is NOT true, as it is a Hardware issue.
He also told me that the hardware component that needs replacing to fix this issue, is also the same component responsible for the Speaker issue (which could potentially affect all Defy's sooner or later if does not have the hardware fix). So by getting the Blue Tick upgrade you are killing two birds with one stone to get better reception and prevent the Speaker issue.
Will this work on the Telstra Atrix?
I returned my defy because of severe screen locking and other strange behavior (worse after blue tick upgrade and froyo update) but the reception on the blue tick atrix is consistently 10 to 20dBm worse than the defy was....any one else had that?

It you flashed using a full SBF rather than a Fixed SBF+nandroid, then I don't think that it is not possible to go fully back to stock at the moment. You will need to wait until Telstra have an official 2.3.4 ROM for the Defy (if ever) or the Bootloader is unlocked.

I will be able to downgrade?
Hi! I have my Defy with the original ROM that comes with it (34.4.709.MB525.Movistar.en.01 - 3.4.2-107_JDNL-9) and it come with Froyo 2.2.1, I have made a Nandroid backup, and now, I want to flash my phone with this Froyo 2.2.2 ROM, but I have read that if I install non-fixed ROM's (like this one) I DON'T WILL BE ABLE TO DOWNGRADE AGAIN.
So, my question is: If I flash my Defy with this ROM (Froyo 2.2.2), I'll be able to downgrade to Froyo 2.2.1 without troubles? (for warranty purposes).
Thank you so much for reply!
And sorry if I have grammatical errors, my native language is Spanish. Bye!
Any chance someone could repost this somewhere? I have a Telstra phone, but did a one-way upgrade to T-Mob Froyo, and now can't get it to upgrade to the official Telstra Froyo. 'twould be most helpful.
Cheers.

mediafire is a little faster today. so here it is:

Thanks mate. Really appreciate it.
Thanks !! for the ROM!
Sorry guys, I didn't realise that the link went dead. If it happens again (since all the file sharing sites are dropping off since MU went down) send me a PM and I will reupload.
I have been informed that the repost is dead too. Can anyone suggest a host for XDA ROMs since all the Megaupload-like sites are dropping out? If I made a torrent, I don't have a machine running 24/7 that can seed it out.
If anyone needs it urgently before I new host becomes clear send me a PM and I will find a way to send it to you. Same applies if you are willing to host it.

I recommend Dropbox. You get 2 GB for signing up. If you sign up through the link in my sig, you'll get 2.25 and then there are some tweeks to extend it more.
P.S. I can host it too, as my Dropbox is 28GB

i have just bought one 2nd-hand excalibur. It seemed normal at first but then when I got home, I access communication but I cant not turn on the wifi at any mean since there is no wifi icon on the screen. That's so helpless. Also, something weird that although i have the brand name of T-mobile but my rom is dopod c720 and it appear chinese word on the greeting screen everytime i boot up. I wondered that it is a fault rom, or it is because of my hardware. If it is cuz of my rom, can you guys show me how to modify or doing any mean to change to another rom. I am really annoyed with that chinese rom. Though i tried many way of flashing another rom but it always gives out the message of invalid model. Any help then. plz plz plz you guys. Really urgent. I am a bit regret of buying this "smart phone".
is it no way to help my belove c720. Or am I being fooled by buying the fake stuff
You might want to try to Hard Reset your device and see if the Wifi would be fixed..
How to Hard Reset?
Start - Accessories (Expert) - Clear Storage - Enter 1234
Hard Reset will wipe out all your data residing on the phone memory, so better backup first before proceeding. Data on the the Storage Card will remain intact and safe with a Hard Reset.
the hard reset was also tried out ages ago. But it seems not work
Just my 2 cent. in China they have no Wi-Fi version of Excalibur sold everythere. It appears that your device has been flashed with Chinese version . You shoud consider flashing your handset to firmware with known WI-FI support in it. I hope it helps.
P.S. Lets hope that your device didn't come from China and has no Wi-Fi chip in it at all. What is the model number of your handest? You can locate this information under the battery.
Good luck!
so i have to remove the battery first then look at the back of my excalibur. Then, which signal give me the information that it come from China or not. Does it have stuff like made in china or sthing like that. By the way, thx you guys very much for devotedly ansewred my questions. I'm newbie here so I need lots of help from u guys

Hello djlinh, I don't know if this helps you or not, but I bought my dopod C720W, (new) in Thailand and it comes with two languages that you can switch between, (English and Chinese). Just check your "SPACE" key to see if it has some Chinese letters, (in blue) on it. That's the way mine came. In any case my Wi-Fi worked fine with the original dopod WM5 ROM. I have since switched to the Russia, (WM6) ROM it working just as well, if not better. By the way I would recommend the Russia ROM . I've been using the Russia ROM for awhile now and to tell you the truth, I could care less if dopod comes out with an WM6 upgrade or not. I can't see it being any better than the Russia one. If you do go for the Russia ROM upgrade. I would suggest you read the various threads of this very helpful site and make some notes first. It will make things go a lot smoother for you. Cheers and good luck!
so can you guys get me a valid rom to flash. I tried to flash many of them but it became a failure. Can you do me a favor that give me a link work for my excalibur.

I own a Dopod C720 which is the version without WLAN. I know that the C720W has WLAN. Is it really a matter of the chip or could it just be based on the firmware whether WLAN is enabled or not?
In addition, I wish to flash the C720 to an all English version. The current version on my C720 is the Chinese/English version. A limited number of applications still only appear in Chinese characters in the English setting. Can someone tell me which version I need and where to get it from(send it)? I downloaded some RUUs but it seems that does not do the trick. e.g. there is still the Chinese operator logo which I do not like.
Thanks
Joscha

What are the benefits of this software update for my phone?
The software upgrade for your HTC Touch Diamond improves performance, stability and battery life.
How do I download the latest software update?
Before you upgrade to the latest version of ROM software, please ensure that:
you have backed up all of your personal data
while performing the ROM Update, all of your data and settings will be erased from your phone. It is necessary to back up all of your personal data (contacts, appointments, tasks) using Active Sync.
it is suggested that you save content such as music, ringtones, pictures onto you laptop or memory card.
your PC is running Windows® 98, 2000, XP or vista. Your battery has 50% or more charge.
Note: be aware that you cannot use your phone during the installation and you will not be connected to the network.
You will need to reconfigure your E mail settings once updated.
Windows installation instructions:
connect the device to your PC using your USB cable. An activesync pop up should indicate that you are connected. Do not remove this cable during the installation process.
click on the ROM link below and choose to save the file to your PC
Once download is complete double-click the file and follow all instructions in the installation wizard that will appear on screen. If the current and new ROM are the same version you can still re-install, this can often cures problems.
you can save the ROM to a file on your PC for reinstalling later or to upgrade several phones from one download.
once the installation begins you will see the install shield and integrity testing complete before the upgrade starts
when the ROM upgrade begins your phone will display a red,
green and blue (bootloader) screen, a progression bar will appear on
your PC and the phone will show progress towards 100%.
once installed your phone will install the ROM and restart.
Anyone tested this version yet?

I put this version on my phone from htc with hardspl and I have had no problems at all
Do you know if this update will reset the hard spl and radio versions?
Or is it just the rom update. If so, how would I restore my original SPL so that Orange wouldn't know I've tinkered with it?!
My phone has a fault you see and I think I will need to have it replaced.
Thanks
PS, I've installed the Orange ROM. There are no orange customisations at all.
It's like a very basic version of the unofficial 1.93 roms doing the rounds here.
It's good for those that have an old Oraneg rom and don't wanna risk a cooked rom on here, but if you've already got a new rom such as swiftbl or dutty etc, I wouldn't bother with the orange rom.
In fact I'm gonna install a new rom from here and not bother with the boring Orange one!
Thanks for that dude,
However i must say, i have been waiting for this rom from orange for about 2 months now, and all thy can do is supply a rom which has been on this fourm for over a month now. 1.93.405.1. what happend to orange TV and other things...
well all i can say is "shame on you ORANGE UK"
No complants here, this ROM is fast as hell and has no Orange customisation. Just what I wanted.
Happy days.
Battery Life?
Is it any better? Does the phone still heat up like a griddle when its used?

WWE = World Wide English (?), means about as much as "global release". A version of a ROM which is released to one could say "unbranded" devices coming from HTC directly, intended for worldwide use. No G2, no Vodafone, just pure HTC.
RUU = Rom Update Utility, a Windows OS executable file which flashes a ROM onto your device, partially or fully. A so called "official RUU" is usually a ROM updater coming from HTC, still in it's untouched state, unmodified, means no root pre-included, no locks removed, no traps defused, just pure HTC.
TMOUS = T-Mobile USA. Questions?
I look at that list and barely have a clue what I should be flashing if I want the latest

Technically quite incorret but it will do as an explanation: we all have the same devices, they are just distinguishable by the software put on them. Since the hardware is the same, all devices worldwide will run every "Vision" ROM there is. So basically, as normal in IT, take the one with the highest number and youre good to go 1.34 is older than 1.72 is older than 1.84 is older than (...). The stuff after 1.34.xxx is for the "release/sales region" a ROM is intended for. 405 for example is more or less western europe, so ROMs released for the german/austrian/swiss/whatever market are 1.xx.405.z ROMs.
what belongs to what provider etc.

Doesn't matter, a Vision is a Vision. A "provider ROM" just means it will have some provider specific junk loaded as opposed to a "clean" HTC ROM. Exception: G2 vs DesireZ. G2 is "pure" Android (with T-Mo junk) where as DesireZ get Sense from HTC.
Also if your s off aren't there quite a few of these that if you flash you will semi brick?

Semi brick? If you got a semi brick unbrick it by flasing something which works. Beauty of flashing HTC devices. Ever heard of locked Motorola bootloaders? A pain in the hole, and very much at that...
...and if its safe to flash with s off and eng bootloader?

S-OFF and ENG Bootloader means your device is basically (very stupid things to do excluded) bomb proof. In this combination there is almost always a way to get it back to a working state. One thing I would consider: I'd take a modified, pre-rooted ROM, an "official" ROM might close a loophole used to root and crack and hack the device.

You'd need a custom recovery for that. And without ROOT you can't load a custom recovery. Hmm... you could temp-root, put recovery on, factory reset (wipe temp root stuff off device), pull a backup, and then perm-root. This way you'd get a quite clean backup. Anyone disagree?
I'm not able to download a single file, either download never starts or it just stops randomly at any point during the download have not been able to download more than 50mb

Desire Z - with XDA Premium
Thank you, ok so what is XDA premium?
Hi guys,
I love my Desire HD, I really do. Great phone. I get asked all the time what make it is... very nice owning it... BUT I hate Orange UK and their pesky interfering with the ROM. Some things just plain don't work.
So (and I have looked) there are lots of ROMs out there that I can Flash, but it's all very confusing to me.
What I need clear guidance on is:
1. Can I get a nice clean Genuine HTC Rom on it (with Sense)?
2. Will that give me OTA updates to Gingerbread or any future upgrades?
Sorry, but I seem to only find Mod guidance on here, but Im one of those people who like to put things back the way they were designed to be... (Im that sad...)
Ta for any help you can offer

Yes, if you just want stock rom you can root your UK branded Rom (if its base 1.72 you have to downgrade first check this guide, thats what i used and there's also a link to a downgrade guide in it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=964996) get S-OFF and install the official RUU (R om U pdate U tility) from 2.3.3. Or when you have root and S-OFF you can flash Clockworkmod recovery (the thing you need to flash any custom made stuff) and from there any custom rom you like. This is recommended because with it you can backup your current branded Rom in case you need to have it repaired and still want to be under warranty.
2. With official RUU you will get future OTA updates directly from HTC, but when you install 2.3.3 RUU you're already up do date. When you have a Custom Rom you will get updates from your rom Chef that you download over wifi/3g directly to your phone and flash it through Clockworkmod recovery

This is stock rom with improvements. Look at the features list, it will convince you I'd say its the most popular custom rom and a good point to start.
btw Orange is the best provider in terms of Data plans in my country. You get most out of your money. But the branding and support is horrible They have absolutely no clue what their talking about. When i asked them if my DHD was branded when i bought it the sales assistant didnt even know what that is... She had to ask someone else first. If thats the same in UK you're on a good way with installing the Rom YOU want. You'll get support here from guys that do even better than the guys from HTC. Believe me.
I've only ever met one sales assistant who knew what I was talking about, I felt strangely attracted to her...
I've tried a few roms and settled on cm7 for now, best thing to do is junk the stock rom and get flashing, the improvements in battery life should be enough to convince you lol

Thanks guys, this is really helpful....
The thing that tipped me over the edge was a trip to my local Orange Shop, where I went to get some answers as to why the Hot Spot feature wasn't working on the phone. I then had to spend 10 minutes explaining to the girl what the hotspot feature was, then DEMONSTRATE it to HER!
Orange guys must have been tinkering with the rom. Tethering and hotspot options worked out of the box for me but you better switch to a custom rom to get those features back and other goodies. Besides, it's funny .
Yep, like all the others recommended custom rom is the way forward. I was in your position before I started the flashing madness, I can promise you, you wouldn't regret it.. And we are so lucky to have such an active development section...

Yep if you follow all the instructions it is nigh on impossible for anything to go wrong. Even if it does however, due to the active forums, you will get an answer in no time!
Don't do it, once you start you can't stop flashing save yourself and run away while you can
On a serious note, the battery life improvement and virtual 24hr help with this forum are good enough reasons on there own to do it, you won't regret it...
Ok Guys.... I'm gonna give you a laugh.
I've had my DHD since March (from Orange) and like all of you I am now not happy with (what you state is Stock ROM)
At the very tender age of 53yrs and now burnt our with computing and the like I rarely understand all the lingo/terms used Etc ;((
After calling on a phone 'expert' shop yesterday and was willing to shed cash if they could root & flash (presumably after de-branding) I saw the blank expression on their face.... "Nope... we don't know what your talking about"
Hmmm (I thought) So now I am determined to scare myself to death and ATTEMPT to get my phone to where it should be! But I am SOOoo lost on all the termanology used.
I am on 2.2.1
Kernal 2.6.32.21-g46445e7
Build 1.84.61.2
At the present time I am running on SPB 3D and have Laucher Pro installed as I was exerimenting with home page mods.
Still awaiting Ginger and can't see me getting it from Orange (UK) for any time yet. Phone does som curios things at times and seems to be getting buggy.
Phone calls drop, incomming second caller now boots me from my original call, icons vannish Etc.
Oh... Not keen on all this Facebook lark which the stock Orange thing has installed.
So.. ok, Not now happy with my DHD, but don't know where to start in geriatric terms.
Love this forum tho'
Hi
I am sending you a PM with a full guide and all the tools you require
I have spent a few hours reading the forums and getting understand things, but one never knows if one really understand things until one summarizes it themselves and asks others to confirm it. So, my situation and summary are below. Do I understand???
I live in South Korea and got the MB525. I like it very much, but I have SK Mobile. The last straw came when they installed even more stuff on my phone (like Korean social network programmes) without my permission, using some form of auto-update even though I had that disabled, and now will not even let me turn off auto update on those programmes. Also had a problem on a trip to Malaysia where the Korean emergency number (119) was the customer service number for Maxis - hence calling customer service got me the fire department!! I am just tired of having so many junk programmes on my phone and not having real control over the phone.
The phone runs 2.1-update1 and I would like to instal a generic version of 2.2 or 2.3 (that is cy7, an unofficial version of 2.3 right). I would like a version that is not country specific, but in English. By doing all this I hope to be able to have complete control over my phone, not have troubles using it internationally (sim is already unlocked but things like emergency numbers being programmed in), and be able to install and uninstall any programmes. I hope that by doing this SK Mobile will not be able to install any of their own software and that I can uninstall anything I do not like. I do not think I need moto-blur (do I???), so a version without that is better, I think.
While new to phone technology, I am good with computers and have my own web site, so I think I have the ability to do the upgrade per the 'All in one Defy Beginners guide' (Serious thanks for that). I'm sure I can figure out how to flash it properly, so no worries there.
My first question is what version/package would others recommend so that I have an English version that works internationally / meets my requirements. My second question is do I understand thing right above and am I on track, and my third question is what am I not thinking of?
Thanks a lot, and sorry for such a long post but too much is new all at once.

haha... yes CM7.1/MIUI or pretty much the other roms wont give you any trouble using it internationally, and yes if you install cm7.1 they(SK mobile) wont be able to 'update' your phone... and yes just follow the guides carefully and your good to go... Good Luck
Since your phone is for SK, then I'm sure that most of the ROMs in here won't have no problem with your Defy.
I suggest CM7 for the function, and MIUI for the theme lovers.
DeBlur is absolutely, since that function just make troubles instead of goodies. Emergency Calling ? Um... not tried editting yet.
OK, thanks for the help above
But, next question. My phone runs 2.1 - update 1, but is I think Eclair version. I bought it in Dec, 2010. I have decided my first step is to upgrade to 2.2 and see how that goes.
But from the how to guide the bit below is very confusing:
CG Version 2: SBF 2.21 / 2.34 / Chinese (Éclair)
CG Version 3: SBF 2.51 (Éclair)
CG Version 4: SBF 3.4.2 (Froyo)
CG Version 5: SBF 4.5.0 / 4.5.1 (Gingerbread)
How do I relate version numbers listed on my phone (2.1) to the list above? I assume I want 3.4.2 but how can I understand version numbers so i do not make a mistake?
As my goal is to upgrade to a version that I can downgrade to 2.1 if needed for warranty reasons, I need a fixed SBF for Froyo. Can anyone give me a specific link to such a SBF version?
Thanks and sorry for all the questions. The learning curve is a bit steep.

Why don't you upgrade from official site.....
can you provide link to the guide you mentioned...
Root your phone (using superoneclick), install 2nd init, after that just flash CM7.1, no need to worry about sbf for CM7, although there is a recommended base ROM, im using it just fine flashing it over my original rom... dont know about others though...
