[Q] my defy is alive! problem... - Defy General

hi, sorry if i dont speak english correctly.
im from brazil and a have the defy that came from the factory with froyo 2.2 (march 2011)
he had red lens and motoblur (not rooted)
my problem is that the defy is opening and calling automatic
when i lock the screen and put in the pocket of the pants he calls to my wife or open the menu of the carrier(claro) with a lot of options chosed.
can someone help me with this case? is this the touchscreen problem? or is the froyo version problem?
thx for the attention
edit: he called one time to police, i only discovered when i pickup the phone and viewed the latest calls!

I would think your phone is being hijack... Or some king of malicious codes resides notoriously in your phone system..
Try to reflash or update it to see if it work.

I assume you put it in the side pockets of your pants, face the touch screen away from your thighs, sometimes the unlock button on top is being pressed and since it has a capacitive touch screen your skin can operate it randomly, that happens a lot for me before, but when I put a pattern lock on it, it stopped operating by itself

Well it is a defy, defying its owner. try both suggestions above, but before you reflash, try factory reset first then update.
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App

more information
in fact, i have always used the pattern lock, and i think that is not a malicious code, because the defy is not rooted and i do not install suspects apps...
*edit: its a new defy, 2 months
another detail i forget: when it happens, the phone is frying (+40º) without overclock (not rooted), i think theres a link between the actions and the temp.
temp high = actions (even with the pattern lock)
i want to know if anyone have this problem too..
thx for the replies....

you dont have to worry 40celsius is fine if your doing high preformance tasks on the phone like watching video, playing games, recording video, benchmarking and even while charging the phone you can easily get up to 38-40 celsius however high tempeture means less battery juice

the phone archieves the 40º+ -in the side pocket- without any high performance tasks running. (and not charging)
this happens 1-3 times a week, not every day and hour.

Another step which I always practice in mind.
Use task manager (App) to auto kill any app you don't want them to run when your phone is in idle or sleeping mode. I use the dafault Task Manager (gingerbread has it) and this task manager will auto kill my selected apps after 2min when the phone in idle mode. Next I also use DroidWall to block my selected apps from trying accessing the internet. For your infor. Some apps are constantly neeed or trying to access the internet, thus might draining your battery quicker and make your device hot, these apps normally running silently in the background.
Lastly I use AVGpro to protect my device in real time(scanning & monitoring) from being infected... Just don't want my Defy catching cold or fever...

Try and install watchdog. You can see which app is misbehaving
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App

i already used the advanced task killer
i think i already know what is, the widgets.....
but now i have another problemSSS.
i rooted with superoneclick 2.1(ok) i overclocked with setvsel(ok) i installed defy 2ndinit (camera stopped, unistalled 2ndinit its come back) try lg camera (ok) try lg camcoder (fail to record video in every know config, even with 2nd init unnistaled)
copied the 720p playback and full screen recording file with root explorer(camera unnistaled, i dont know how)
applied the 720p playback and fullscreen recording patch via recovery (camera installed but dont open, lg camcoder still not recording nothing, installed again 2ndinit)
my widget of weather and news disapeared (i think thats the patch above ^)
deleted the camera.apk odex
unistalled again the 2ndinit (camera and camcoder not opening, lg camera ok, lg camcoder still same error)
quality of photo (with lg camera) is bad after paste the mot_ise_image_cfg to the system/etc...
i dont have the stock rom of my carrier for reflash.
system version

help me pls

You're messing things and making it complicated yourself.
Check your camera module. Some patch are only for red lens and only applicable to gingerbread rom. Make sure you get the right files for your froyo. Instal 2nd-init and set boot normal for the lgcamera 720p to work properly.
I would recommend you flash gingerbread rom if you're looking for stable 720p recording.

yes, im messing because i want to play one thing, and everything stopped working, im just trying one thing by one thing, but nothing worked.
i have already set the bootloader to normal by defalut, but nothing changed
the files are for 2.2 froyo and red lens (its my defy).
i want to go back because im still in the warranty period, but if theres nothing i can do, i will put the GB rom.
thx

Just flash . Look in the defy dev for the sbf. Read tutorials first
And before you do anything, make back up first. It is easier that way

hey guys...
i post other thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15898418#post15898418
things got very complicated....
but i have much experience from other phones and systems.
i found the solution, restored my camera, all the apps still working and i think this should help others...
thinking of flashing i discovered this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=945035 and i get the tools pack from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14801445#post14801445
i downloaded the sbf of my brand (claro 2.2.1) at http://and-developers.com/sbf:defy
i depacked the sbf and repacked only with the CG34.smg (boot) but not worked
so i thinked the system file CG39.smg will work (because when my windows fails i just reinstall the system files from cd and it works with all files and programs)
i repacked again with CG39 and CG34 (just for precaution) and the problems was solved (the camera and the boot loop).
all my programs are back, camera, games, everything, without flashing (the whole sbf) and without wipeing the data.....
i will post in the other thread too.
i thanks every reply!!!

is rooting worth??

well ive rooted my prev phone n caused it to brick n i cant think of any reasons to root dhd
app2sd - 2.2 already have them
roms - same as any app launcher in market(?)
getting 2.3 etc ealier - id rather wait fr official since i like htc sense anyway.
higher cpu - the phone is way fast enough for me... the 2.2.1 update improved the lag by alot.. i did not get any lag since update.
access to apps like screencast - maybe
removing apps that cannot be removed - i dont want to remove em
improved camera etc in roms - yet again 2.2.1 basically fixed every problem on this phone like low volume, bad camera, lag etc

I recently also moved from HD2 to Desire HD and also don't see the reason for rooting.
I messed around with HD2 because I didn't like WM and I wanted Android.
Now that I have Android as a native OS I also really don't see the need for rooting. I belive that official updates are always way better than the unofficial ones (this ment with all due respect to all of the chefs out there that are trying their best) because unofficial ones have testing cycle that are way smaller and so new versions with fixes tend to come out at least once in a couple of days.
Maybe I'm not seeing the whole picture. If you think I'm also wrong, please say so.
If you're happy with your phone now then by all means leave it as it is. But as long as you follow instructions to the word, you're not going to brick your device.

I would have to say that the ROMs I have used (ARHD many versions and CM7 Rc1) that the testing cycle might be smaller but support is generally a lot better than with the official updates.
But in answer to your question is Rooting worth it, well that all depends on what you want from your phone tbh. If you want a customised ROM or the ability to move ALL apps in their entirety to your SD (this is a root only feature) a heavily improved battery life (in some circles) or stock android experience etc, then yea Root that bad boy and enjoy.
If however you are a standard user then it really is not worth it. I rooted mine as i wanted to eek out some extra battery and performance. It was worth it.
I'm new to rooting & flashing roms this week, had my dhd since oct last year & kept it legit until now.
Everything's gone fine for me - downgraded from official ota 2.2.1 (1.72.xxx.x) to 2.2 (1.32.xxx.x - PD98IMG.zip file) so i could root (didn't need goldcard, phone unlocked & unbranded from new)
I got a RUU just in case though.
Did the s-off & radio off thing (couldn't be any easier), put revolution rom on first, but didn't think much of it, so now i'm on CM7... loving it, but it's early days.
Still got to work out how to get the market back (google apps file needed i think).
Originally rooted so i could get my bluetooth keyboard working with my dhd, revolution made no difference, CM7 is looking promising.

Hi!
Is root worth it?
Well. I can only speak for my self of course. Where I live, Google has not yet opened up for paid apps. It is possible to circumvent but, for me, the easiest solution requires root.
If I want to clarify a problem or a solution, e.g. at xda, it is nice to be able to add a screen dump. This is possible through Android SDK, but i haven't, as of yet, figured out how to do this. Anyway you need to be hooked up to a computer to do this which kind of negates the idea of posting from the phone. There's an app to do this as well but again, this requires root.
Living in a small arctic town the weather app hasn't got my location in the database. It is possible and quite easy to remedy this issue but - u guessed it - requires root.
I guess it comes down to personal preferences which, at least for me, has got a lot to do with where I live.
Can you get by without root? Good for you, best of luck etc.
I can't.
Regards Elo.

Like it was pointed out, the main advantage are the custom ROMs or kernels. The apache 13 kernels have great performance.
If you don't plan on using them root isn't that needed though. On the other hand rooting is almost risk free with the new one click tools.
If you have to ask. Then no.
Personally, I'm not much for sense and I love to play around with different Roms, kernels, overclocking and all that.
I can only think of one thing worth rooting for if you're not going to flash, overclock and so on. And that is the fact one can remove those bloody ads with Adfree.

Bottom Point: HUGE BATTERY LIFE IMPROVEMENT!!
You decide.
im in a urban area so i dont need root to unlock app market and hidden apps and paid apps.. im have 16 hrs a day n my phone is usually connected to the pc... so charging is not a problem fr me... n 2.2.1 did improve the battery by alot... i did nt touch the phone fr 7 hours and the battery only went down by 2%

DISCONTINUED - [ROM][02-june-11][patch update] A7Comb (Honeycomb 3.0) v0.2a

The adaption of the newly released VegaComb / honeycomb 3.0 for our tegra2 brothers (advent vega and Adam) and is getting to a state where its usable and the latest alpha4 release for Vega is working quite well on Folio100 as well. with a few modifications of course...
I cannot take full credits for the intensive work done on this honeycomb 3.0 , that is primarily done by NotionInk Adam and Advent Vega developers , which are: MrGuy , newbe5 , corvus , HomerSp I added some kernel changes and image adjustments to support A7.
Download A7Comb 0.2a patch update here
installs like any other "Update.zip", rename the downloaded file to Update.zip
Download A7Comb 0.2 full image update here
installs like any other "Update.zip" (extract the Update.zip from this downloaded zip file) and make sure you "wipe" / factory reset.
Alternate kernel, with original softkeys enabled can be downloaded here
this is also used when you change density setting to 130, so you get the "gingerbread" launcher running instead.
Rename this download to Update.zip and copy directly to sdcard. no unpacking for this is required.
So what is status on a7 port.
- Wifi works, you need to reboot the first you enable it, and it will scan correctly.
- touchscreen seems 100% ok. (did not test multitouch apps)
- Adobe Flashplayer blank (just keep pressing upper left corner like normal to get fullscreen and it works)
- too many apps in the apps list makes them go outside screen.. one solution might be to change density. see build.prop and maybe try 110 instead of the current 120.
You can write whatever status or reported finding, but please check, its not already in the advent/vega issue list, as it share alot with their image.
I will do what is possible to bring it to a better state, but i cannot promise anything and maybe patches from vega/adam might actually work on A7 depending on what they change. (if its a patch)
v0.2a
- Increased 2d/3d performance
- polaris office fixes
- brightness control fix
v0.2 updates
- using newest updates from VegaComb (Gmail and other googleapps now shows correctly)
- Market can now be used for login with an Googleaccount.
reserved for me
I did get bigrushdog to take a look into making us a kernel he is the one who has been working on them for the xoom.
And its online.
Thanks for HC dexter I am testing it now...
Been playing with it for a few hours. touch on the screen is hit or miss at best. Market is a non-starter. Titanium Backup is crashing every other app install. Unable to load Amazon App Store anymore (just stuck in a non-ending registering cycle) But on a good note looks great in landscape, Portrait not so much. Wifi started right up after restart and found my network just fine. Will play a little bit more.
Google Apps working now!!
Ill post the new image later on.. and "Books" now stays (was automatically removed before)
Had to revert back to 1.42, no soft key work. Will wait for new update..

softkeys disabled.. Honeycomb do not use them anymore
Look at the bottom left, thats your control buttons.. thats pretty much what as example "motorola xoom with honeycomb 3.0" looks like now.. so its no error , i disabled those on purpose..
problem is that you got half the screen size of a "certified" tablet, so not much room for pressing buttons and resolutions very low.. so you're missing alot due to the lack of space.. and thats pretty much why A7 is never getting a proper honeycomb when minimum requirements are 1280x800
Soft keys were removed If I had read correctly due to the fact HC has them and dex seen no reason to have two of them. I like the idea of not having them means you don't have to worry about hitting them on accident

no, i used StreamTVNetwork's released source from their website..
you cannot use other devices unless you once again try to adapt the drivers to the kernel, which is a big one, since no one did, you can imagine how much work it takes..
you modifiy the existing kernel you got for your device, which the git changes where possible into your existing code, and update where it requiress it.
So we could maybe get the 1.5Ghz update, but im not sure if i can extract and diff it so we can implement into the a7 kernel.
I wasn't meaning did you use that kernel. I guess I could have been a bit clearer. What I meant was seeing how that kernel is adapted to be used with HC could that be off benefit to a dev for our a7. Using it as a guide to some degree
This may be a silly question but...with a dedicated gpu could not the ROM resolution actually be resized to fit the A7? I mean this is not a case of trying to increase resolution (at its native resolution you can't get more than it can reproduce) but down converting it. In other words (This may be a bad example) a standard 720p television that can receive a 1080p signal but down-converts it to 720p.

with the next update, im uploading in some hours you can use Market, then download the "Density" app, which can change density (not resoluion) but everything becomes smaller and its harder to hit the soft buttons in lower left side, so you know (as i tried it)

no, basically a7 is stuck on in 2.2. a 2.3 release still require a formal 2.6.36. kernel which vendors do not adapt drivers for, so if any 2.3 arrive, it will be like this one, using a 2.6.32.9 kernel. maybe with a few patches upto 2.6.32.34 or so, but still using the old drivers vendors delivered..
the guys found out several "libs" of 40MB+ were not needed at all, so i removed them as well..
Weird, Upon first install i recived " Installation aborted" Due to some E:Can't find entry for META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary. Any ideas? Trying install again from fresh download.

[Q] reason to move to cm7

hello everybody
I am totally a noob as you say. i have a defy officialy updated to 2.2.2; since then i have some lag and reboot. in the french forum i have been advised to move to cm7 to avoid such pb. they give me links and tutorials, but it seems very hard to me to go ahead, i roughly succed in recording apk in the sd cards.
they try to help me nicely, but i feel totaly lost moreover with this strange vocabulary you use
this is why i am wondering if it is a good thing for me and the use i have of the defy to try to upgrade it.
basically, i read my emails, skype friends, facebook, read ebooks and take pictures and video of my sons i don't feel any probs with motoblur, don't play game or video or other stuffs like that.
even now, i am writing with my laptop .
i am pissed off when it reboot but it isn't not the end of the world.
what cm7 could bring to sb like me ?
thanks for your help
I do not use the Defy, but it sounds like you are happy with your phone. CM7 streamlines a lot of
unwanted and imo unneeded apps (and lots more really) from your phone. If you are satisfied with your phone's performance I see no need to do anything. I do however use CM7 and love the less is more feel and MUCH better performance.
Read the forums to decide what is best for your own needs.

Hmmm...if y you are new to rooting, flashing and using recovery and is not adventurous, then I suggest to stay with froyo as of now especially if you don't have the time or a spare phone. But if you really want a faster (case to case), good on battery( case to case), beingconstantly updated phone, then change to cm7.

This is really a nice qn
I have used official eclair froyo miui cm7
cm7 is not so gud in customizations.
They give some hardware acceleration and you will not find much of lags on that gingerbread UI.
For looks, i recommend u to use Launcher pro . I am using it with cm7 and the combination is perfect.
U can definitely move to cm7 latest nightly. If u want good camera then u can move to milestone 2 rom.
On the contrary, CM7 is heavy customizable. Lots of features. I suggest you read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065798 and the CM7 thread for the latest Google Apps and Cm7. It's not that hard to install, actually it's really easy if you follow their steps.
You can use ADW/ Launcher pro or GO launcher. I personally use Go Launcher and i like it, doesn't crash, loads fast.
You can PM me if you want help in upgrading. Why keep your smartphone on 2.2 when you can unleash it's full potential with 2.3.4. Another reason is apps support, everything works on Gingerbread but not everything on Froyo, Hardware is much more faster ( download Quadrant Standard from the market) i get 2200-2400 . Browsing, doc reading/editing is much smoother. Better battery and the list could go on.
Oh, andf Nightlies are for testing... RC0/RC1 are stable versions to use.

Had cm7 on my SGS got my defy and knew it had 200mhz less processor but otbwas very laggy needed restarting loads lots of force close. Opening Google maps was a joke.
Installed cm7 all better now and it removed the 800mhz underclock so now rocking a 1ghz and it works better then my SGS. Did some quick boot tests, opened a few apps defy was quicker then the SGS and the iPhone 3gs

thanks,
after an attentive look at it, it seems that most probs are on camera and as it is a main use of my defy i will stay with official froyo.
thanks guys
I had some reboots and issues too after updating to official froyo. They were all gone after doing a complete wipe.
If you have many apps installed and stuff on your phone, root your phone using SuperOneClick (is really, REALLY easy.. click, click rooted) and install Titanium Backup. Save all your apps and do a complete Wipe.
After that, your phone should be working perfectly. To do this wipe, with the phone turned off, hold Volume Down and turn it on (while still holding V. Down) at the triangle screen press at the same time Vol up and Vol Down. There you will see the options to Clear Cache and Delete User data.
You could also try only wiping cache, it wont delete any information on your phone, but might fix issues (No rooting or anything special needed for this)
Hope it helps~
Zephyrot' s post speaks true. See if you can't fix the issues with a factory reset / cache clear
For the first few months I didn't want to really root my phone or flash it as I was expecting ear piece problem. When I finally took the plunge I wanted a rom that removed motoblur, it's launcher and almost everything else so I could configure it myself from market apps and always have the latest versions.
This lead me not to CM7 - which is also rather bloated and still rather buggy when i last tried the nightlies it 2 weeks ago - but Barebones: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=977989
I installed 1.5.1 after flashing the nordic 2.2.2. I have never been happier.
I have now updated to 1.5.6 + the update.zip for market fixes - used Titanium backup *root* to transfer my apps and settings. I replaced the zoom launcher with launcherPro, milestone overclock to 1100 at 65vsel (after some testing with lower / higher settings).
Finally it was a blurless, bare rom that has the pure minimum as a base and all else can be added via the market afterwards.
Advantages :
its 2.3.4
highly customizable
gr8 performance
lots of options under cyanogenmod settings
mobile will be fully flexible
rest all feature u will come to know only when u try it
all the best

New here! Installed CM7 2.3.5 recently...got some gripes. Maybe better options?

Hey y'all!
Phone runs damn fast now...2500 with 1.1Ghz /75. Even got as high as 2900 with 1.2ghz BUT... some simple improvements that can be made.
1) Lack of Task Manager that came with the stock 2.2.1 ROM which had auto-end feature. I installed Process Killer app, but maybe one out there that's better? It will kill apps at time intervals, but not prevent from opening again. For example Maps opens up A LOT without me running it (among several others). Eventually, this PK app uses 20% of battery to end these apps.
I tried to install 2.2.1 ROM task manager on CM7 and didn't work. maybe there's another method???
2) I miss the Swipe feature and stock keyboard. Anyway I can transfer these over? I forgot to back them up before CM7.
3) the dialer sucks. No speed dial and doesn't bring up contacts as you type them in the dialer
4) no battery saver mode. i had to download an app. forgot the name.
5) Wasn't connected to 3G at first, but found the answer here and simply is not faster than the stock 2.2.1 ROM. I was easily pulling well over 3Mbps downloads and not uncommon to get 4,5 and even 6mbps on Tmobile 3G. But on CM7 i barely get over 3, if I get there at all. Maybe Tmo throttled back my download speeds? I have been messing with the phone for 2 weeks trying to sort everything out.
Thanks!
1) Android system itself has good memory management, i.e, it automatically closes unwanted apps to free up memory if it really needs. Using task killer apps really do have much effect (at least nothing outright). So there's really no need to have one.
2) you can get swype here : http://beta.swype.com/
3) you can try 'go dialer' or any such dialer apps from market
4) Whats battery saver mode?
5) Have you changed the baseband to your region/provider?
1 & 3 Try the Go apps option,
GoLauncherEX gives a nice launcher very similar to ADW Launcher that comes with CM7 but does add a Running Tab to your app drawer if you wish to close apps down. Although this is not really needed, as mentioned above, Android shuts down apps not needed when needed.
GoDialer/GoContacts as a dialer replacement, themeable, good options, worth a try.
5 Look in the Apps for Defy Baseband and make sure you choose the one best for you. That might help with your 3G problem
Im no expert and still a bit of a novice but switching from Stock to CM7 was one of the best things I did so stick with it and CM7 will shine through
hey guys!
i was trying to figure out if there is any clean, fast rom (gingerbread) for the motorola defy!
i've tried the cm7 2.3.7 but it felt like there was something holding the phone back, plus battery was heating up like crazy.
quad score 2200
tried miui-looks fancy, like quite a few of the options they have like pop up message and the easy customization but not that great for me because theres no app drawer.
quad score 1990
used walter's ms2ginger,like it but not that much. its the fastest of all of these.
so now what i want to know is if theres a rom for the defy that would make me go gaga over my phone all over again!
quad score 1600
not sure if this is the right place for this so apologise my noob-ness
oh and since the defy+ is out, is there a way to get a nandroid of it to install on the older defy???? (since its the same thing except for the 1ghz processor clock speed) :S
Weird, I tried ms2ginger and it's more like a faster defy stock rom with the same random lags.
I haven't tried miui, but cm7 is faster than ms2ginger and (sure) stock rom and almost never lags. If you do not need call recording and you don't care about 720p recording/playback, cm7 is the best of them.
(720p playback in cm7 is not bad, just ms2ginger is better a little)
but the camera app on the ms2 ginger is the best! lol its so much nicer looking and functioning then the cm7! :O
Thanks guys! I actually have 2.3.7 CM7, not 2.3.5

4) I have battery defender app. I shuts off the antenna after 5 min when the screen goes off. It's very similar how T mobile motoblur was on the Defy. They allowed you to set the phone on 3 different performance levels. Now that I have some of the stuff sorted out, the phone will last 2 days no problems (avg/below avg use).
5) There are 3 choices for baseband. They are (not sure of the whole name) XXXX.4, xxxx.9 and 6.0. My phone only works on the xxxx.4 choice. However, one thing i do notice on CM7 is that an 'H' shows up by the bars, whereas 2.2.1 rom just said 3G. This is something that if I had known earlier I would have checked my phone before going to CM7.
Does the APN count for anything?? I did have to enter some values for that.

I wonder if the themes for GoLauncher will take care of the dialer issue?

check your email settings if you set that up. Mine got real hot and battery drained like crazy because it was set to retrieve every 15 minutes and I was in a place with sh*tty reception. Put those 2 together and your battery won't last long. I set my email for every hour. I also don't have any social sites setup on the phone as I don't use them (T, FB). Also try battery defender app.

OKP milestone 6 on HTC Wildfire (Buzz) - gps/radio problem

Hey guys... I flshed OKP milestone 6 on my Wildfire, and i have to say that it wotrks pretty fine, considering Wildifre is a low-end phone, there are a few glitches, but most of it works. So far i noticed that stock camera and allery apps do not work (as mentioned in some thread here). i simply replaced the stock apps with some custom ones from the market. but....
GPS also does not work. and i can't fix it. i followed these instructions : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574504 But i still can't make a gps fix. I tried installing Gps status as a monitoring app, and left it for an hour or so, but it still didn't make a fix. i use Copilot for navigation, and all it says that it found a gps signal, but can't make a fix....
Please, i really need GPS, and i usuall use it extensively... can any body help in any way?

Yeh, i know. i had this problem on both CM6 and CM7 i used to have before AOKP. usually, flashing radio with a downloaded zip file helped, but now for some reason, clockwork does not allow me to flash radio, and i don't know why
EDIT: i will try both of the suggestions above mentioned in a few hours, got to go outsinde now, have some work to do, and will let you both know how did it go...

hey, i just tried that tutorial (method 2 from the instructions), using no-ssl patch. i had to copy/paste the files using root explorer because clockworkmod aborted the instalation of both of these two files (anybody knows why?)
anyway, my phone is currently outside, on the balcony, and has been there for about 10 minutes, but Copilot still can't find fix... Also, it may be of importance, although gps is turned on, i do not see the gps icon in the notification bar...
any other ideas?
EDIT: So far i tried the tutorial i used to flash radio when on CM (http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/35540-gps-does-not-work-with-any-cyanogen/), but it still wont work. however i had to downgrade clockworkmod via rom manager, and that might be a problem, since, after a restart, clockwork reverts to a newer version, so, the flash of radio might have not occured at all..
Guys, help! puuhh-leeese!
You know all the information you need is here, Google is your friend.......
This is a very common bug that has happened to just about every cm user and i'd say there a hundreds of threads about it.
Downgrade to the 19.25 radio, reboot and then upgrade to the 20.10 again and the gps should work...
If it doesn't the alternative method is take a backup and flash a sense based Rom, turn on gps open g maps and wait for a fix. Give it a few minutes to get a good position. Then boot into recovery and restore your backup or do a fresh install. Fresh install is best imo....
The reason cwm reverts back is because the old version you flashed is temporary, its not broken and did work as it should.
The agps patch is not a fix for a broken radio but more a change in how and where the gps information comes from.

additionally to scratch's answer and suggestions I'd like to mention that sometimes it's mandatory to follow the suggested solutions with a good portion of accuracy (unless you buy 3 or 4 Android books and try to get a few years experience) - so have you also tried a 3rd radio as suggested in the CM forum or did you just try the 13.53.55.24H_3.35.19.25? What radio did you have before you tried to solve the prob? (just in case... could also be possible that you already had the older one, flashing just the same radio most likely won't help).
to answer some of the previous quedtions - i do not know what radio version was before i started meddling with it, and now it probably doeen't matter, because i tried several different flashes, methods etc coming from various sources.
although, i have to correct myself - the last method (the one with fixing the radio after flashing CM) DID work. it seems that the temporary downgrade of clockwork worked, and i managed to flash radio with the 3.35.19.25 version. i know it because it was the last thing i did yesterday before i gave up and went to sleep. the gps does make a fix with it! the first thing i noticed is the gps icon in the notification bar, and the second was, of course, the fix itself and finding the satellites. guess i was just too tired yesterday to figure that out. and maybe i wasn't exactly at the good spot to make a fix.
so, anyways, it works now, and thank you all for the help and suggestions!
EDIT: however, i do have another question.... i noticed that when my phone is locked and not in use, when sb calls me, the phone lags heavily: the ringtone starts to play, and i have to press the off button, unlock the phone, and then get the option on the screen to answer the phone, and after i chose to answer, the ringtone continues to play for a 2-3 seconds until the call is truly established.... it happened to me on CM 6 and 7, but not to this extent. this is truly slow and painstaking, and we're speaking about the very basic function of a phone. is there any way to fix that or speed that up?

What performance settings do you have? (overclocked?, governor?) - if you didn't tweak anything you probably should have a good read(s) here in the forums what settings others use etc.
Each Wildfire is a bit individual regarding performance (plus it depends heavily on the apps you use, active services etc.). I've rooted my Willy explicitely for the reason to get control over that.
It depends on you how fast and responsive your phone will be as you have total control over everything
For unlocking on calls explicitely: I have a min CPU setting of 264MHz which works reliable but as mentioned above YMMV.

set the processor to have min CPU 352 MHz and max CPU 768 MHz. the scaling governor is set to interactive, i even installed the v6 supercharger script from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1126940 so that i don't have to deal with app killers from google play that never really proved their worth.... as for active services (is that the running apps from the apps manager?), i have facebook, go weather (just the widget), clock, dsp manager and android keyboard. total of 7 processes and 9 services... what do you make of that?
p.s. wouldn't a smaller min CPU setting mean a grater possibility of a phone lag?
EDIT (i always seem to edit my posts ): i got an idea to browse to /system/app, and to delete some apps that i think i might not need in hope that that might speed up my phone. however there are some that i don't now if i should delete them. so here's the list of those and please tell me if there is soem app that i shouldn't delete:
AOKtips.apk - i suppose that this is the introductory tips on controling the rom and launcher. i don't think i need this
Apollo.apk - this is stock music player. i use another one
ApplicationsProvider.apk - ??? do i need it?
Broser.apk i use opera next mini an it's much faster
ChromeBookmarksSyncAdapter.apk - chrome bookmarks sync? i don't sync my bookmarks, neither do i use chrome on my phone
DownloadProvider.apk
DownloadProviderUI.apk - is this one, and the one before that used for OS update? if so, i might not need them because, i usually don't update system, i am prone to make a full wipe in clockwork and install a fresh, updated system
DSPManager.apk - ??? do i need it?
Email.apk - generic email app, i use gmail, and if not, i would rather enter an address and log into via opera
Exchange.apk - ???? don't know what this one is, but it has the same icon as Email.apk
GalleryGoogle.apk - it has the same icon as stock gallery, which doesn't work anyways, and i use an other app for that
GenieWidget.apk - this looks to be a news widget, and i don't really need it
GoogleFeedback.apk - ??? do i need it?
GooglePartnerSetup.apk - ??? do i need it?
GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk - is this the search widget that appears in the upper part of the screen? if so, i don't need it, i disabled it anyways since it takes away precious screen space
HoloSpiralWallpaper.apk - live wallpaper? don't need it
KeyChain.apk - ??? do i need it?
Launcher2.apk - don't now if i need it if i have nova launcher that comes with the rom?
SetupWizard.apk - ??? do i need it?
UserDictiponaryProvider.apk - is this for predictive text when typing? if so, i don't use predictive text nor anything similar. i type my own texts
VoiceDialer.apk - don't use it
VoiceSearch.apk - don't use it
VpnDialogs.apk - ??? do i need it?
WAPPushManager.apk - ??? do i need it?
would removing these or only part of these speed up the phone? especially when receiving calls, since this seems to be the time when the phone lags the most....
sorry guys for such a long post, and i know that it would take time to read all this, but bear with me, please, my knowledge about android is quite superficial, i still think i know only the basics, and what i've picked up from other people and from googling

doesn't look you have some memory wasters there (besides Facebook lol - nags me every day). I've dropped V6 for several reasons (too long to explain here and now) and use an app from the playstore (autostarts) to find out and cut automatic startups (one of the few apps to be worth to pay for, if you're used to compile you can get it on Github, too - open source).

yes, but like I said: min 264MHz works fine for me most of the time. Plus I'm using setCPU to explicitly set the screen off value.

unfortunately you have to do some work yourself :silly: because I'm either short on time and - even more important - it's not always yes or no if you can delete it (depends on your setup, prefs and likes) - but you could read the approximately 20-30 posts from here in the LeWa thread where slymobi and me are discussing almost all CM7 system apps (including our keep/delete lists)
My personal major finding was AutoKiller Memory Optimizer (which you might know from the V6 thread). In fact I knew about the app for a long time but always missed testing it. When I did my phone already felt fast and snappy - no lags at all - but that really gave it a remarkable additional boost... (in your case most settings are done by V6 Supercharger - but to be honest I never had the same feeling with that script - but: ymmv).

i just uninstalled v6 supercharger and removed some of the system apps by taking a look at the links you've provided me, and as well as taking a look at tables and lists from these links: http://www.vmroms.com/index.php?topic=35.0 and http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Barebones....
right after root explorer finished with moving the apps from /system/app/ (i moved the apps to sd-card for backup), the system restarted automatically, and i got the AOKP flash animation. i nearly **** my pants, as i thought "that's it, broke my phone" , but, once the system got up again, the difference is amazing!! the phone literary flashes through menus and options etc... i will try out autokiller memory optimizer and autostarts to see if i can squeeze some more perfomance.
will update you on the results, as for now i still didn't receive any calls, so i can't comment on that.
oh, and, p.s. the apps that i removed from /system/app/ are:
AOKTips.apk
Apollo.apk
ApplicationsProvider.apk
Browser.apk
Camera.apk
ChromeBookmarksSyncAdapter.apk
DSPManager.apk
Email.apk
Exchange.apk
GalleryGoogle.apk
GenieWidget.apk
GoogleFeedback.apk.
Launcher2.apk
HoloSpiralWallpaper.apk
MagicSmokeWallpaper.apk
PhaseBeam.apk
PicoTts.apk
UnicornPorn.apk
UserDictionaryProvider.apk
VideoEditor.apk
VisualizationWallpapers.apk
VoiceDialer.apk
VoiceSearch.apk
VpnDialogs.apk
and just for the fun of it, i downloaded latest stable cm7 rom and extracted camera.apk and gallery.apk from it, and pasted it into /system/app/ since, well the stock camera and gallery in AOKP m6 don't work, but, after a restart, the phone didn't show them at all, does anybody know why is that? these apps worked quite fine on CM 7, i thought they might work here as well
and BTW, i still can't figure out how do i make an incoming phone cal wake up my phone?when sb calls me i can hear the ringtone, but the screen if off and i have to press the on/off key, unlock the phone and only THEN i get the option to answer/reject the call. it's an idiotic glitch that i can't seem to solve....
