Not sure if this should be posted in the development section, but I figured its more of a question than anything development related
Does anyone know if it would be possible to port over the new edition of motoblur? And before we all freak out, watch the videos of the new Droid X
(here: http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/15/exclusive-motorola-droid-x-preview/)
Judging by the specs I've seen...
Some of the listed specs include:
4.4-inch, FWVGA 854 x 480-resolution screen
Android 2.1 with "some new sort of Motoblur"
8-megapixel camera
Ability to record 720p video
Multitouch keyboard
1GHz ARMv7 processor
8GB of storage space

...The processor is identical; that should help, no? It doesn't seem like too much of a stretch, but I'm no developer.
I just really like the clean, vanilla look of the new motoblur, SenseUI has always seemed a little boring to me. Any thoughts/ideas?
The processors currently both run at 1 ghz, but they are FAR from the same processor. Evo sports a snapdragon from qualcomm while the Droid x has an omap from Texas instruments.
It's a bit premature but I have a feeling that processor is a better candidate for overclocking. Hopefully all those leaked quadrant tests we saw of this phone really were on froyo.
That processor is about the only thing I want from that phone.
Motoblur? No thanks. Not even with a cool name like "ninjablur".
I still say Evo all the way

Yes the Droid X is using ninjablur, a more "adult" version of motoblur. as for a port, i dont even think the old motoblur was ported to anything besides the G1, its bad. Sense > moto/ninjablur by far. ADW or Launcher Pro > blur also

Shows you how much I know, thanks for clearing that up for me. I was under the impression that since they were both "1Ghz ARMv7" processors they were more similar than that.
Don't get me wrong, my point to this post was not to talk down the Evo, it is by far the best device I have ever used, and I find the X to be bulbous and not as clean cut as my Evo. But as much as I love my Evo, I despise SenseUI. Maybe if it was called NINJAUI I would feel differently
I guess I'll just have to wait for a nice AOSP or Froyo ROM.

LOL I'm not one to bite people's head off for "questioning the Evo". It's so early into our Evo ownership that we have every right to question our purchase (especially within the 30 day window). As for me I have no questions about the Evo, I haven't had any of the hardware defects lots of other ppl have been reporting.
My only issue with my decision is Sprint's data speeds. Some people get great speeds and I am uber jealous. Indianapolis is the 11th biggest city in the US and my data speeds here blow. I routinely get 150kbps downstream on 3G. With a "premium data" add on you tell me how you would feel paying extra and getting stuck with those speeds....
gah shame on my double posting self.

Didn't notice you were from Indy as well, we are in need of some 4G lovin. I'm not home enough to report on my 3G speeds there but I can tell you it can't be much worse than the 1x I get while at school in Bloomington
I've been lucky as well, I have a little bit of the screen rise but not enough to make a fuss about it yet. I just hate that damn Sense, I stumbled upon Avalaunch's EVOlution ROM, that'll hold me over until a proper 2.2 can be released..then I'll never look back
I'll run some speed tests this weekend when I'm home and let you know how mine looks. I'm up on the NE side.
EDIT: that probably confused you, didn't realize I was logged in on my other account :/
I still am very interested in seeing a motoblur brought to the EVO; im actually trying to work on that but i have no real time
My brother agreed to give me the upgrade on his line if I gave him my inc. So i would also have another upgrade in June 2012 so should I upgrade to the thunderbolt or keep my dinc? I'm looking for some advise as to what I should do.

I say wait...there are a lot of new phones coming out. The thunderbolt wouldn't be worth it to me.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I agree. The Thunderbolt is not dual-core. Plus Verizon will be getting the Xperia Play and other great phones. Including some great dual-core phones.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
If it was me I would probably wait for a dual core phone with LTE. My girlfriend has the Thunderbolt and it is not much better than my Incredible other that has the big screen that I like.
I say wait too for something with dual core, 3d cam?, and something with a battery that last longer than 3 hours
Seems as though everybody would rather wait. Lol. Seems like an easy enough decision.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I would hold out although for you it's probably easier said than done. Hard to resist I'm sure!
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
I too would wait.
I have to ask, what is the big deal about dual core processors? I mean, what are we expecting these new phones to be able to perform that our Droid Incredible can't?
I just picked up a DInc for the wife, and we now have a TBolt sitting around playing Pandora in the kitchen.
She hated it, ( TB ) but being that it was the 2nd phone she got ( she returned the iPhone ) she's stuck with it. She tried to tell me that she would give me the TB for my DInc, but I really like mine and an not willing to part with it just yet.
Long short I traded my old Eris + a ridiculously small amount of cash for what appears to be a almost new DInc and she seems to be happy with it...
For now...
So, I'd wait
Watch this video. Both of these are dual-core. Super fast compared to the incredible.
m.youtube.com/#/watch?desktop_uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dh6JZ3Aykr2k&v=h6JZ3Aykr2k&gl=US
Thank me if I help.
i say wait. thunderbolt looks nice but it's not a major upgrade, especially if you're not in a LTE coverage area.
i'm holding my upgrade for the bionic or for the next HTC LTE phone, whichever come first.
The new Sense 3.0 ROMS are keeping me pretty busy that last few days and also has made it a lot easier to not want a new phone right away. Its almost like getting a new one!
I craved the Thunderbolt. I watched forums on it daily during the whole Thundergate release date situation. I finally got tired of waiting. Ended up spending the $700 on a set of recliners instead (I was going to pay full price for the TB).
Then I started sniffing around the DINC2. Same specs as TB only 4" display and no LTE. Not too shabby. Only problem I've been hearing, locked bootloader? Ugh.
i own a new Thunderbolt, and even thought the specs don't look like an improvement they really are. And even though dual core is out there, the test beween dual and single aren't that far off from each other.
Quadrant scores (which is yes invaild technically) at 1.4 oc 2690, but mostly at 2100-2300
Positives
-more ram (768 mb), which makes a insane difference, almost never lags.
-The cpu is 1 ghz but can safely over clock to 1.4 (because qualcomm has stated it is stable clock from 800mhz-1.41 ghz) and i even got it stable at 1.8
-comes preloaded with 32 gb card, nice plus. and even thought it says 8 emmc, it only has 2.8 GB or something to work with, what is still a good amount.
-screen is gorilla glass, so its tough and durable.
-camera 720p recording (rumors of 1080p with new sense roms)
-if u want to video chat then yes this phone has a front camera thats always nice.
-Even though the screen is big, it doesn't feel it. because got some width instead of just length like droid x it looks smaller.
-And o yea LTE which is insane, almost as good as Wifi N in some areas.
Negatives
-Battery Battery Battery Battery Battery SUCKS. But i upgraded to ginersense 2.1/3.0 mods and my battery life is insanely good all of a sudden.
-$250 for a phone is expensive, But Samsung LTE Charge is 300 and tech specs are same if not worse in some aspects.
-Stock comes with 2.2 but with root gingerbread is easily available.
But with any phone you got to buy it for your needs, so if you need battery throughout the day, dont even bother, but if you can lug around batteries or chargers, its a must upgrade.
Wait for sure.

yea definitely would wait. i have a feeling this summer we will get some sweet dual core phones, and there isnt any point in getting anything less than the best out there.
+1 for waiting. I'm perfectly happy with my Dinc until something with better hardware comes along.
Oh yeah, just wait. It's what I'd do if I had the option.

My brother has a Thunderbolt, it's pretty nice. As long as you root it, and do a few tweaks with lower voltages the battery life is pretty good (better than my incredible), but once you turn 4G on it'll be significantly worse.
I'd still say wait, unless you really want to jump into a new phone. Who knows when another comparable phone will come out.
The Thunderbolt is pretty large too, some people like that since it'll be easier to do things on- but personally I find it just more of a hassle to carry around.
Do you wish you had 4G? Do you like the size? Anyone still debating between the Incredible 2 and the Thunderbolt?
My dad has the thunderbolt and I have the incredible 2. I dont think 4g is that big of a deal, though I am usually in range of wifi. The thunderbolt is borderline too big, the incredible 2 is the perfect size and naturally we both would like better battery life. I think I'll buy an extended battery for my Incredible 2 even though I rooted and am running CM7.
Yeah I currently have the Thunderbolt but am looking to swap to an Incredible when I can, it doesn't fit in my hands the greatest so I think the Incredible is the ticket.
Best android phone I have touched. I wouldn't even think about getting 4g instead of this beast.
Love it. Wifi at home and work. Not much of a need for LTE. Perfect size.

Just trying to make me jealous eh? If that's the case well played sir! Hopefully I can find someone on Swappa who wants to trade.
My honest opinion:
I wish I had 4G, but I'll take slower data speeds over terrible battery life. Disabling 4G on a Tbolt really just makes it a bloated Inc2, so I am happy with my Inc2.
If what you are really wanting to ask is if I regret the purchase, then my answer is no.
I have both a Thunderbolt and an Incredible 2, and to be perfectly honest, I can't choose between them. I've burnt through 3 LTE SIMs in just a few weeks swapping back and forth. The Thunderbolt is almost the exact phone I've wanted to come to VZW for months: The Desire HD. However, there's something about the Incredible 2 that makes me adore is so much. It's more pocketable, the battery life is head and shoulders above that of the Thunderbolt(If I'm going to be out all day with the T-Bolt, I bring my spare battery), and everything just seems smoother to me. It rekindles everything I loved about the original Incredible, but does it even better. It all comes down to whether or not you live in a 4G area. I will undoubtedly be using the Thunderbolt every day once LTE goes live here and the Incredible 2 will be cast away into a drawer somewhere until I travel out of the country and need a stellar global phone, sadly. If you don't live in a 4G area or 4G really doesn't matter to you, the Incredible 2 is hands down the best bet. It's an amazing little phone that does almost everything right. I definitely don't regret picking one up.

Ha ha, thanks a heap for that mouth watering tease. I'll be picking one up as soon as I can find someone who will be willing to part with theirs for my Thunderbolt ha ha.
oddly enough, I still miss my old HD2. I dropped that thing so many times and even got pissed while I was driving and threw it. it bounced off the dash and severly cracked/damaged my windshield and the phone was still just fine. one day though I accidentally spilled a few drops of water on it and game over. r.i.p.
as for this damn Incredible 2.... I originally had a Thunderbolt but because of how terrible the battery was(even with extended) I took it back and got this. mind you I did want to get the Droid Charge instead(because they were supposed to be out at the same time) but since it was delayed and my 30 days was, nearly up, I settled for this.
I miss thr bigger screen on the Thunderbolt and the faster downloads.

With the new radio the battery life has improved quite a bit, not to mention CM7 battery life is pretty damn good too, or one of Chingy51o's sense based roms. Mine gets me through a whole day, I never had problems with battery life. Just want the smaller size I have girl hands sadly lol.
in italy we don't have 4g (maybe next year) and for me the dinc2 is the best phone i can buy nowaday....
fast, stable, great display, right size, right feeling in my hand.....
now , after s-off and great roms coming out it will be the best choise for me ... ;-D

I love the incredible 2. The extra RAM is ignored by the reviewers for some reason but it really helps. The battery puts it over the thunderbolt in my opinion.
Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk
Love mine. 4G isn't a big deal for me, and I was never really impressed with any of the 4G phones that were out at the time I bought my Inc2.
I've had the thunderbolt since it was released in march and ultimately the battery life did it in. Great phone no doubt and I loved traveling to spots with 4g coverage and using it to tether (when it was free) but since my area of northern Los Angeles is 4g free I just don't want to deal with the battery issues when I can't utilize the battery draining network. I'm literally ten miles from the edge of 4g so I doubt they will expand up just a little bit anytime soon so that was it for the bolt.
I had the original incredible and outside of the original Droid it was my favorite Android phone. So when I decided to dump the thunderbolt I gave the Droid 3 a shot first. Wasn't a fan. Way too brick like in the pocket and I am not a fan of how the phone feels. So I returned it and went Inc2 and I couldn't be happier. Essentially the same as the thunderbolt from a performance standpoint (in 3g mode) in a smaller lighter and battery sipping 3g package. So no complaints at all and I will stick with this until I actually get 4g in my area.
I had a Charge, since I switched from T-Mobile solely for LTE. However, after about a month of it pissing battery, consistently failing to get me through a work day let alone anything afterwards, and after a couple of replacement units (hoping to find the good battery life I had heard so many people claim), and after trying to patch up all the problems in the phone, I finally had enough and traded down to the Inc2. Turns out it's an amazing phone. I like it so much I left it stock, and even took the root-blocking Gingerbread OTA. The GPS is unbelievably strong, the battery can go for days, Sense is really feature-rich and polished. On top of all of that, the hardware feels sturdy, exudes class, and disappears into your pocket. This phone is amazing.

how does it get you through a whole day? just browsing the web for about an hour & a half(with brightness turned all the way down) kills about 30% of the battery.. that and if i watch a movie on it it kills about 40%.
so i take it you aren't constantly using the phone though?

There isn't a phone out there with any carrier that I would trade my Dinc2 for right now, except maybe the EVO 4G. I love the EVO a bunch too but the Dinc2 is just a very solid handset in every category and now that we have root the sky is the limit.

Had 3d, returned, went with Photon
So I had an EVO 4g for several months before the 3d came out. I LOVE Sense. Got the 3d, hated it. Sense was sluggish to say the least, battery life was about half a day, connection problems... 3d was cool but gave me a headache after a while.
So I returned it, got a nexus s right before the price drop, had it for 3 weeks, HATED IT.
So I returned it and got the Photon on Sunday and I'm not looking back. I'm what I would consider a heavy user (though we don't have 4g where I'm at so that's NEVER turned on). I have WIFI, Bluetooth, and GPS on 24/7. I can make it from the time I wake up (mind you it's only been 2 full days that I've had it, today is my 3rd day), until I go to bed before I need to plug it in and charge it. With the 3d, I'd have to charge it around 1pm everyday! (I had the 3d for a week mind you).
Beyond that, it's fast, motoblur is kept to a minimum, I can remove most all of the bloatware (thou I haven't yet), and to me, the coolest feature is the webtop. I bought the HD dock, plug it into my TV via HDMI, my wireless keyboard and mouse are plugged into the back of the dock, and now my phone is the computer running on my tv. And it IS AWESOME!
After having both, the 3d is a disappointment. HTC messed up. A 1.2 dual-core feels like a 1.0 single-core. I liked my EVO 4g better!

I would have to disagree with the kickstand being my reason for the photon, but I would still go with the photon. I hate motoblur but the extra battery stock means even more extra battery life when rooted. Also I know this next question is off topic, but is the kickstand really that important to a lot of people here ? I hate the damn kickstand. I wish it was never on the EVO. Mine is so damn loose already and I have never even used it. I know not many people have that problem, but I do and it's annoying. It just swings out everytime I pick up my phone and it's extremely irritating. I'm considering getting some bolt cutters and cutting that thing as far down as I can.

i don't think so
I think the 3d is by far the best phone on sprint. The og evo was nice and i did love it but its just outdated compared to the 3d. It loads up everything so much quicker. I can watch youtube videos now that i use to blame sprint for messing up. I can every app in my phone and it breezes through it. My og evo couldnt handle it. Dont get me wrong, ive talked 4 of my family members into getting the og evo but if they had the money it would be evo3d hands down in every category.
In all honesty I wouldn't go for the evo 3d. The signal of it is better then some (the Galaxy S II being one of them) but the phone itself is gimicky. You will like the speed of it over the og evo, and the 3d capability is cool but that's it. The pictures it takes are more holographic then anything and give you a headace, and the movies look good but won't stream to a 3d tv. I see a lot of them with scren and software issue that aren't rooted at all. If you are going to upgrade now I would deffinetly go with the motorola photon. It has the best signal strength out of any phone, and you still get the speeds you need to do stuff without lagging. You won't be able to to customize it like you can with the evo just yet, but it does an amazing job keeping you happy. The GSII is nice and all but the signal drops the quality of it so much. If you're only looking to go to the 3d save your time and money and wait for another phone. I still have an original evo and I wouldn't go to a 3d if you paid me (and you can get the 3d free from sprint as an exchange if yours is messed up and I still won't)
3d is like heated seats in a car. If u dont like it, dont use it. Your still left with leather seats. In all of my tests with signal the photon and evo3d are the same. My evos avg 200kb less on avg and never peak as high. As for the sg2 and nexus, thwy are made by sammy and they have never made a decent radio in my opinion. Its not just speed on the 3d. Its the battery life, screen resolution, 4gbs internal memoy, newer sense, and a soon to be ics update that makes it the choice over the og evo.
Off topic, why does a evo give error code 63 in some places? Over time ive owned about 8 (no problems) But they all give the same error when i go to north carolina to certain spots. It will still work but i have to hit cancel ever few secs.

The 3D is faster and has another core, it's a little nicer... it's not a LOT nicer though..
I had a company buy me one, so I'm happy with it.. have my OG as a backup WiFi home phone.
