Hi guys,
I want to share my solution for fixing the LAG. I tested it on 2 phones and you get rid of 80-90% of the LAG in some easy steps:
replace TwLauncher with LauncherPro
if you use Beautiful Widgets install latest update (3.23) - don't check 'Refresh on wake',
go to Settings->Applications and filter to select all running applications
go to Market and clear cache and after that Force Close (several times )
go to Market Updater and Force Close (several times )
go to Samsung Task Manager, RAM Manag and run a Level 2 RAM clear
My phone is running very smooth for a week now. I have 102 apps and counting. Just an occasional lag, but for a very very short time. Once a day at most.
Samsung Task Manager, sound like you are using Froyo.
Does it work on Eclair?

Its as useless lag solution as it gets. Nothing in this has anything to do with lag on our phones.

Agree, the steps above wont solve any lag issue even if its related to having low free mem, zero difference.. nothing.. zilch!
I'm using Eclair with Samsung task Manager from Samsung Apps.
My phone was lagging a lot. There were moments when I just [email protected]#[email protected]$#@ But this is how I got rid of most of the lag. My guess is that maybe it has something to do with the Market. I don't know, but definitely I'm not lying.
In my opinion the problem is not memory related. My wife's phone (just 20 apps installed) always has 100+ MB free memory and still had lag. With this "fix" the problem is almost gone.
You should not clear RAM.
It will empty your ram and clear all running program, so you will have a lot of free ram.
Lot of free ram means WASTED ram!
Linux systems are made to use all available ram and clear it when needed so if you empty it it will just be wasted.

No offence but this is complete rubbish
I know about RAM more than 90% of the persons on this forum. I just run that clear cache L2 ONCE.
If you think is rubbish, don't use it. My phone is running fine for a week with this stupid solution.

This is amusingly cute But this is not a "lag fix." It has been established hundreds of times that the "lag" is caused by Samsung's implementation of RFS. It is fixed by replacing the filesystem with something else. Nothing to do with free RAM.
Galaxy S has lots RAM so free RAM is generally not a problem. If it is, flashing one of the kernels with ~341MB of RAM will help notably (a lot better than this mucking around killing things).
Who said something about the RAM being the problem? I was just answering the angry guy who said that you shouldn't clear the RAM
I agree that the problem can be caused by the filesystem. I think that there are other causes too.
I'm not pretending that this is actually a FIX for the solution. I was just sharing my experience. My phone is running faster with these things that I've done. There'e a lot of people that are not willing to flash their phones to apply a lagfix. This can be a temporary solution for them.

Your thread title says otherwise. Anyways, like some other person has pointed out already this is rubbish.
Title changed. Probably it was not the most suitable title.
Anyway, don't like it, just ignore it. I don't understand why are people feeling so offended.

I'm trying to be nice here, so please bear with me. We are not offended by your contributions, it is just that what you have written is not substantiated by facts. There is simply no correlation between what you have done to the elimination of the lag in the SGS.
It may have worked for you, and I'm not doubting that. But then again, I'm using hardcore optimized kernel and also the modded twlauncher. Right now, I don't even need to apply any lagfixes. User experience has been very satisfying.
It's actually the TouchWiz adding the RFS and the programming design itself causing the lag, I found one here by replacing the Touchwiz with tweak touchwiz and everything really good, I did the Voodoo the rest is history no more lags... I am using Push emails, Feedback for Facebook and Twitter, Beautiful widgets and I am not freeing RAM. It's really the skinning(touchwiz) causing problems with lag issues. Trust me

Apologies if I sounded offended, I am not. However, you did come across as a bit pompous (claiming to know more about RAM etc) and at the same time offered a 'solution' which does nothing to fix the lag issue and is simply misleading at best. Even the changed thread title is still very arbitrary.
Users, especially new users, may stumble upon this 'solution' and it really won't help them (at least as far as the lag is concerned), so it helps to be accurate in providing possible solutions.

Nice. But the lag seems to occur with alternative launchers as well and within apps.
Wel i def agree with running LP over TouchWiz.. I found it very laggy on JPO.. LP on the otherhand...Smooth as silk
Ok. Apologies to everyone
The title was wrong. This wasn't intended as a solution, but more like and info sharing
IMO the root cause of the lag fix is not necessarily RFS, but stupid Samsung software.
as always: if you don't know what you're doing, don't post it as a "fix" or general truth...
I've said it before and i'll say it again:

No problem. And thanks for your suggestions.
I (still) love my Desire, unfortunately after two weeks of usage or so the screen starts annoying me! Any live wallpaper is unusable due choppy home screen scrolling and some menus like "All Apps" or "Customize" become very slow at the bottom. At first I thought it was problem of custom ROM, but this is happening even on stock ROM, so it's probably a HW problem (GPU maybe?).
Can someone help me?
Thanks.
HW problem? Don't think so. However, can be, but it's not likely.
I suggest to try a different kernel and if that not helps do a full wipe & reflash.
I see, that we use the same radio & kernel (except that I'm on LeeDroid) - but i never experienced that slowdowns.
Nah, coutts, CM, HTC, ziggy... All the same.
Try changing your governor
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Maybe a ram thing .... i use (i know not all think this is good but) a taskmanager with a auto close apps widget
with kind regards...Alex
Still the same and I have plenty of free RAM.
If your device can still play 3d intensive games without slow downs or errors then I doubt it's a hardware problem. So...Does it play games properly?
Recommend such game that is OK on your Desire, so we can compare.
Try nenamark (1.5 free in the market). I get 20.9 FPS with the stuff in my signature. So if you get more than 15 then I think it won't be a hardware problem.
Also I noticed the lag when something is installing. So can be the a2sd+ slowing down your phone.
It can't be due A2SD (read OP).
Btw, I got 18,6 FPS.
Hmm, then the gpu/cpu seems to be fine. Must be a software error.
But what SW? Every ROM and every kernel behave in the same way.
That's what I try to figure out. So if you do a full wipe & changing ROM - Lag remains.
Changing kernel - lag remains.
Seriously, I have no idea. Usually a full wipe & reflash helps (ROM+kernel).
Can't it be the radio?
Can't be, this problem started in virgin stock ROM (I have copyright on that ).
Have you tried aosp roms its probaly a HTC sense issue
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
AOSP ROMs have the same issue.
maybe your NAND got corrupted in some way?
maybe after you install new ROM try not to restore your previous apps or system setting with neither titanium backup or mybackup, whichever you use.
however,i would assume you tried that already.
also you could try going back to stock ROM and or even HD rom which fits on NAND and try booting without SD card which maybe trying to read something and it cant.
so was your phone branded?
and when did you noticed this performance issue?
Unbraded. And I noticed it during using stock ROM.
Don't know if its just imagination but i think my desire has also gotten more laggy lately.
My phone has definitely slowed down LWPs are pretty much unusable & Sense always slows right down at the bottom of some menus, including the app drawer.
Hi guys,
I have a problem with CM7 on my Kindle Fire. I have done the searching but since I found no one has raised the same issue, hence I post it.
My Kindle Fire was successfully rooted with the CM7. The version is 7-2-0-blaze-KANG
I'm now encountering with the video player.
At the beginning after I rooted and run my very beginning steps on using this device under CM7 ROM cook, it's very fine. It can run very smoothly with MX Video Player.
But after I installed several simple applications (It's "several" 'cause the number of applications only reach the page 3) such as Advanced Task Killer, Facebook, Gmail, Alkido,... (I haven't installed any games), the video is not as smooth as usual.
I don't know what to do right now, 'cause the applications that I installed are simple and necessary for any Android user, I reckon. They appear in every Android device. I couldn't uninstall them.
I wonder that might be a problem with CM7 version that I'm using, 'cause perhaps it's not a fully developed. Do you have any suggestions for me?
1. Install a new ROM (CM9 or another version)
2. Or Go back to the Stock ROM
3. Or This problem cannot be sorted out. I have to suffer (
Any of your help would be highly appreciated
1. Get Advanced Task Killer off of there, you don't need it.
2. Check the decoding settings on mx player, you should probably have it set to software decoding, if not try that.
3. It's probably not something with your rom, but if you want, try hellfire's cm7 rom. It's what I use. I have no trouble with video.
I like mx player, but you can also try bsplayer which I really like, probably even more. Just make sure to go into the settings and use software decoding. Otherwise it can have trouble depending on the filetype/codec you are trying to play. This could be your problem.
Also: Try using FBreader instead of Aldiko, I think it's much better and it has a syncing app you can dl. It's awesome.
Thank you so much for your response since I don't see it much here
1. I install Advanced Task Killer since sometimes it might be easy for me to log out an application rather than keep pressing "back" button. However, I uninstalled it but the video is still unsmooth.
2. I've checked it, and everything is fine. I think it can not be this problem, as at the beginning everything is smooth (I told in the first post). But after I installed several apps, it wasn't working well
3. I think it is the ROM. I now realize that it's unable to play HD youtube on this ROM as well (Vevo is always infeasible). Imma try Gede ICS Rom 1.35 since I received a lot of great compliments for this, having said that there are still minor bugs here.
Thanks for your suggestion on new applications
Introduction.
In P350, we have little RAM, and everybody knows that. I'm constructing this thread to try maximize the performance on ICS.
The First Tip -> Gapps.
As we all know, in each version of Android, Gapps size is increased. In Froyo, Gapps like Google Maps and others really slowed the phone to the point of hacking it to improve performance. In Gingerbread, in most of ROM's, it wasn't a BIG problem. But in Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean, Gapps are landing direct hits on performance overall, because of 3 reasons:
It's size is now very BIG;
It has some unknown background apps that eats RAM;
Now the Gapps are consuming memory, CPU and GPU.
As a effect, some Devs and p350 users are searching a way to improve performance. But some problems occur in the way, like low memory RAM, discussions on thread and some others. So I'm giving the first TIP.
DO NOT USE FLASH GAPPS.
You are now asking yourself : "What the Hell are you saying Dark?"
I answer, it's very simple. Most of the Android Users (Yes, not only P350) do not use half of the installed apks. Saying by other words, Android users flash and don't use 50% or more of Gapps, so unknown apps are installed and are kept in phone. And most of the users only flash Gapps because they want them installed for nothing, without knowing what these apps are doing in background. To finish, a big part of New Android users only use Google Play. So, how we clear this?
DOWNLOAD THE DESIRED GAPPS FROM GOOGLE PLAY.
If you use some Gapps to work or any other reason, like Google Mail and Youtube, you might consider downloading then instead of flashing. But now you are asking yourself: "What is the difference?". I answer why downloading is better thant flashing them:
A great part of ROM's (if not all), do not need Gapps to work, so you can only download Google Play, setting your account on phone and start hunting the apps you use;
Because of this, you has an Greater control of deciding what app you need and want to install;
Unknown apps will not be installed on your phone;
No background apps active -> More RAM -> Better performance!
Now you have a better performance than before.
The Second Tip -> Uninstall what you don't use.
Yes, in every version of ICS the most worry of users is : "RAM is good on this ROM?", because little RAM, poor performance. In some versions, like ConnectMod betas, the RAM is very poor, according to dodo1255 . How to solve this problem?
UNINSTALL SYSTEM APPS.
Some ROM's come with unnecessary apps, and they consume your memory, both internal and RAM. To Advanced users:
Extract ROM, go to system/apps and delete manually the undesired apps.
To basic users, do this:
Download Root Uninstaller or Root Uninstaller Pro;
Open it and Search some apps that you don't use and uninstall them.
Attention: Before making anything make a Backup first! And, do not try this if you are New on Android world. If you want to do this, first search on net about this and what apps you can uninstall.
I'm not responsible for bricked devices, suicide, getting fired at your work because alarm app failed, or your mama kamikazing herself instead of jumping parachute because you didn't call her and tell what airplane to catch on airport. You decided of making these modifications. If you point your finger at me, I'll laugh of you.
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Some people just do this and get an improved performance, but if you want to go further.
The Third Tip -> Overclock and Swap.
Yep, it's a basic tip this one. But be aware of the limit of the overclocking in the respective kernel, and what's the most stable frequency on that ROM. And if you're planning Swap your ROM, do not use apps like Swapper, they do not help because they runs in background. Search and you'll find good tips on how to do it.
The Fourth Tip -> Download some optimizer apps.
Yes, i'm recomending because of other things that they can do. But do not install:
Apps that kills other apps, like task managers. They do not improve performance and really increase the number of Force Closes on your phone;
Apps that creates a big amount of cache;
You can install apps like:
Auto Memory Manager and RAM Manager Pro - Can help on improving performance;
AnTuTu CPU Master Pro - With some settings it helps on performance and battery;
Zdbox or other that cleans cache - Cleans your phone to a better level of performance.
The Fifth Tip -> Smoothing your phone in a easy manner.
This tip was suggested by gogyly.
This app, Seeder, was created by lambgx02 to reduce lags and to improve even better Any Rom. In the thread you can find more specifications.
I tested and works flawlessy, it's very good, a must-have app for us now.
Seeder
The Sixty Tip ->A GREAT Replacement for Google Play.
This tip is for those that only use Google Play when flash gapps. It's a custom market called 1Mobile Market. It's UI is like Google Play, feature the hottest apps for free (I found GTA Vice City to download here), you can log in with your google account and has a really amount of apps. I'm current using and is very good.
Link for download -> 1Mobile Market
Doubt of every ICS user ->Why my phone is having low battery fast?.
It's because of tweaks. Yeah, TWEAKS MAKE THE BATTERY LAST A FEW HOURS. I concluded this when i moved myself of ICS from my Genesis. They are almost equal on performance (with over my one reaches close , going to 2203 and ICS with stock freq. 2230). And, ironically, the two wastes battery even when i'm not using it. Result -> 1 day battery. Froyo, the more slow ROM, do not wastes battery when i'm not using it, even with overclock. Result -> 3+ day battery.
And 1 thing: Devs, do not put 2 or tweak packages on your ROM's, because some scripts was already used on other packages, making the system run 2 or more times the same script, wasting battery.
You can help on this list by suggesting some improvements that I do not listed here. If I help, press thanks.
So for Accounts syncing, Flash Gapps is not really needed? Only a account-related app, such as Gmail? Interesting... But how do I get Play Store without flashing Gapps?
dbarrera, account sync app come in some ICS roms. If not, you can download gapps and put this application on system/apps of the ROM. You can get Play Store apk file in XDA, or in others websites. If you cannot found, i have the .apk file so i can upload for you =D.
For instance, I'm testing JellyME ROM... It has Account & Sync app, but even with Gmail and Play Store (3.7.11 from a June dump, I dunno if its the latest) app installed, I can't add my Google account for it to sync Contact and Calendar data... Ideas?
Yes. Go to Settings -> Account & Sync -> Add Account, and do the step guide. First check your internet connection because it will be loggin to verify and associate your account to that phone and you're done. After all tap your account to find the options to Sync Contacts and Calendar. Hope i helped you. =D
Or use blackmart.

Hi. I think u should try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33999592
I've used this app on kamesh ICS, and it helps reduce lag. I didn'nt test it much on ICS (rolled back to MIUI), but on MIUI GB, realy reduces lag on minimum. I'm curently on powersaving governor and all is still buttery smooth. Check out and give your opinion. Cheers!!!
Sent from my LG-P350 using xda premium
Okay I'll try using it on my new ROM and soon i'll post results =D
Had to flash Gapps (tiny-gapps) for Google related data (Contacts and Calendar) sync...
I just hope that these tiny-gapps does not come with unnecessary apps. But you can do this step: Extract gapps and extract rom. Put the desired apps on system/apps of the ROM and make a .zip file with contents. That should do the trick next time =D
Just the APKs? In the tiny-gapps also comes some libs and stuff... Probably dependencies?
Maybe ... But here in my phone it wasn't a problem. Maybe these libs modifies system and allow unknown apps or other things to run in background.
Being that the case, GoogleBackupTransport (I guess this one keeps data backed up with Google), Google[Calendar | Contacts]SyncAdapter (I guess the name says it all), GoogleLoginService (Need to login into Mothership somehow), MarketUpdater, Phonesky (Play Store), Talk (Yes, I'm guilty of using it) should be the only ones to load directly into the ROM's /system/app folder?
Yes, theorically talking. But soon some ROM's will implant the useful Gapps, so we will not have to do this work =D
If the JellyMe developer includes Google Login without Gapps (and fixes the bugs already posted on his thread), I'm sold!
And how about any tips for battery life? I've tried some ICS ROMs, they were quite smooth,all good but I didn't like the battery life, that's why I'm still using CM7. Anybody running ICS can post some battery stats? On CM7, it takes 3%/8 hours with airplane mode, but with ICS 40%!! Did I do something wrong(I mean bad kernel or flashing gapps) or is it normal with ICS? Thanks
ICS is a really battery eater because more apps are running in background. And it goes fast. You can download different battery savers and check what's the best for you.
Well that's shame,because I'd really like to use ICS(CM9),it has some good functions(killing with back button,smoother and faster than CM7). The weirdest thing is it drains the battery even in deep sleep?!

I don't want to be rude, because I know that there's a lot of hard, long and sometimes annoying work. I'm happy I can even flash ICS. I've just asked if there's any way to improve battery life (especially when phone is not used). I don't think that low battery life is a "functionality" which I should adapt to.
I have had been rooting my s2 since i have gotten over a year ago, and have not had lag issues with too much RAM being used. Now the other day my phone started using 600+ mb of RAM. I was on rooted 4.1.2 With GB27 modem. I thought resetting phone completely would work, but no hope. I wiped everything, and 5 min after powering up it still uses 600+ mb of RAm
I flashed multiple JB Roms to my phone with no avail. I am currently running SenseWiz 2.0 on 4.1.2 GB27 (followed steps in the Roms thread 100% to flash this btw). It still uses no less than 500+ mb of ram. This phone has never lagged on me before and it really irritates me. Something as simple as pulling down notification bar even lags.
Please let me know what I need to do to fix this.
Also not sure if this is right forum section, but sounded like a noob question to me lol.:crying:

Hi. Someone can give you a better answer, but something to check first is what's using it. I don't have this phone, but I think the location is:
Settings -> ________ (a tab) -> Applications -> then "swipe right" to show Running Apps. Since I don't think most people have this issue, it might be an app you installed that's just bogging down the phone. It should show as running, and maybe several processes. What app(s) do you install after flashing the ROM? (For example I install Yahoo Mail, Netflix, etc.) Or maybe some apps got in their with some crazy default app settings that make them stay awake and work all the time.
Use the Greenify app. It's amazing - puts to sleep the stuff you do not need until you open that app. For example, you don't need Angry Birds up in your business unless you want to play it, lol... that can clear RAM too...
G'luck. :good:
