Download a stock rom, it is in flashable zip format. You will retain root & s-off.

Thank you

You can not flash a non-official ROM without rooting and adding a custom Recovery. S-OFF can remained unchanged.

Froyo root, recovery and Cyanogen

Hi..
The howto for permissions root on froyo, recovery and Cyanogen?
thanks
firstly answer these questions.
1)how old is your handset?
i need to know this becuase i doubt you remember what hboot version it was before you updated to the fro-yo update.
2)you will need to downgrade. using this method regardless.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=750852
once you have flashed PB99IMG.zip and if you get a picture then you dont need to continue with the procedure. if you do not get a picture, you continue with instructions.
once you have done that you will need to root.
root using unrevoked method. www.unrevoked.com.
if you have a SLCD screen the link in 2) will be have full instructions on this.
once you have flashed unrevoked and are in the custom recovery you can flash any zip.
so you can put cyanogen port for desire onto the SD card and flash that in the recovery screen.
thanks.. but I lose the guarantee???

you will lose warranty if you flash anything unofficial to you're phone.
again can you answer the questions above
also what network you are on and things like that. because you may be able to flash OFFICIAL RUU of your network back on after running cyanogen to get back to factory setting

recovery remains stock.

[Q] DHD Radio Flashing

I've just flashed my DHD using this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11557769
But didnt flash my radio, If i decied to do it later do i have to do the entire flash software again? I.e the eng s off etc?
Also now ive flashed it, if i want another custom rom on do i need to do the full above flash or can i use the rom manager app?
I'm new to this so sorry about the questions if there easy
Thanks
If you done everything correctly there's no need to to everything again before flashing the radio. Just follow this guide. Root, S-Off and such will stay after flashing a custom rom.
When you flash another rom you just have to do a full wipe.

[Q] Custom ROM with S-OFF rooted to Custom ROM with S-ON Unrooted possible?

Hi there,
did some searching and red a lot about going from a rooted s-off device to completely stock (s-on, unrooted, ruu). But i want to know if it is possible to go from: s-off, rooted, custom rom to: s-on; unrooted; custom rom ?
Why? you ask. Because i use my old Desire for work (bring your own device (BYOD)). And byod uses MobileIron which detects s-off and root. Company policy is no rooted etc. phones allowed. So i thought, i can s-on en unroot but with a much better Mildwild GB rom.
Is it as easy as to flash the rom.zip and unroot ? or is there more ?
Why would you ever want to do that?

edited fist post. Because of company policy.
To remove s-off you would need to flash an ruu. Then you would have to unlock the phone via HTC dev in order to flash a custom recovery. After that you could flash whatever rom you want through the recovery, however most roms (including milwilds) come rooted. You could try removing the supersu/superuser apk as well as the su binary located inside of the rom zip, which may work, but it also may cause other issues.

[Q] back to stock

Yes i read threads over going back to stock but my question is a little bit different
I got a dutch T-mobile branded M8 after i did my first root i made a a backup from my phone with TWRP.
i can't get S-OFF, so my phone is still S-ON!
Now i got the problem that my HBOOT isn't updated since, this is giving me problems with newer versions of TWRP and so for CM12.
My thoughts were:
- flash my backup to my phone
- ? 1
- ? 2
- update it regulary via ota updates (guess my phone is updated to the latest hboot)
- Root my phone
- install any new rom
Frist my questons are for the questionmarks in my steps:
? 1: Should i un-root and relock my bootloader?
? 2: Anythinge else i missed?
Thanks in advance

You can't s-off, since sunshine says your phone is not supported? Or you don't want to pay for sunshine?

1) No need to unroot or relock bootloader. But no system files can be modified in order to OTA. If you made the nandroid right after installing TWRP and root, without any other mods, you should be OK.
2) You also need to flash stock recovery to install OTA

Don't want to pay for sunshine, don't see the importance, just want to **** around with custom roms, never has been a great difference for me.

If you want s-off, pay for it. Otherwise, don't. And I agree that if the goal is merely to update firmware, you don't need s-off in your case. As for the importance, s-off allows a number of things, including being able to flash radios, modified hboots, and unlock SIM. These may not be relevant or needed by you.
But to say you can't s-off is not correct. You just don't want to. When asking for help, its best to provide the most complete and correct information.

Download the stock recovery corresponding to your stock software number from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376

Going back to Stock - S-ON

Hello Guys,
Today I decided to install CyanogenMod 13 on my HTC One M8. Here is what I did:
- Unlocked the bootloader;
- Flashed TWRP Recovery;
- In recovery, I wiped everything I could;
- Installed CM13 and Gapps.
Now, the phone works good, but in case I want to go back to stock, what should I do? I still have S-ON.
Thanks for the help!
(also, info about where to download the stock ROM is welcome)
You should have made a nandroid backup right after flashing TWRP.
Oh and there are 2 threads with backups. 1 here in the Q&A and 1 in the general. Can't be missed !

So, I didn't do the backup. But my question is: is it possible to install stock ROM now?
Everyone says I have to use S-OFF to be able to install Stock again. Why is that?

Because they are incorrect.
You can go back to stock by flashing a stock TWRP backup and stock recovery, but you can't set the flag to "locked" from "unlocked" without S-Off. You can only set it to "relocked".
But you can go back to the stock ROM and recovery easily.

I don't need to make exactly like before. All I need to know is if there is a way back to stock, and custom ROMs after that.
I'm not sure if this is correct, but some people said I can't install custom ROMs with S-ON and I can't make it S-OFF without stock ROM because SunShine requires it. That's it. Thanks for help!

You don't need S-Off to install custom ROMs. You do need it to convert to GPE, if that's what you mean. The M8 and M8 GPe are different models with different partition locations and sizes.
You do need to be on a stock or close to stock ROM to gain S-Off.
ViperOneM8 works, and has been suggested by the developers of Sunshine S-Off.
MaximusHD is also known to work, and is what I usually suggest even though I work with Team Venom.
It's always worked because it is very near stock.
I imagine that it works with ViperOneM8 on a fresh install, before flashing the modifications that are available, or going through the Tweaks.

Great info, thanks a lot.
Any idea if Android Revolution HD by Mike will do?
Anyway, if the Official CM recovery will be able to install CM13+ updates when they release them, I am totally fine with how the phone is right now.
