It could be a very very long wait seein as there are a bunch of new phones for them to pay attention to while ignoring the Dincs.
Go ahead and root, tons of us applied the update manually to 2.2 without issue.
I have a family member working for a Verizon as a DM, I try to get information out of him, all he told me is that the Inc is "supposed" to get 2.3, had no timetable when.
When the Evo 3D comes out and the source code gets released for Sense on 2.3 hopefully the guys over here can make it work on the DInc.
I agree with Ben. Root and get 2.3 now. Why wait for a buggy IT'S when we've been building and debugging the source already.

If VZW releases 2.3 for DInc, XDA ROM-ers will do loads of stuff with it anyway...

I caught wind that VZW is going to put out 2.3 OTA update soon, so here's my question.
If I'm rooted, but still on the stock Rom, which I have to put it back to, everything stock except for "root" and radio version, will the OTA update unroot my phone, or in any way mess anything up?
I will unroot it myself and put EVERYTHING back completely stock if I have to, but I'm not ready to give up the ability to WiFi tether my phone with my xbox to run xbox live.

Most likely the update will break root. Most do. But generally given a few days to a couple of weeks there is a new root method

Odds are someone will take the new OTA, add root, busybox, rom manager and other essentials. Make it flashable via Rom Manager the night it's released.
God forbid. A "I heard" thread. Where am I, androidforums?

It wasn't long at all after the 23NOV update started being pushed OTA that us rooted dummies had a very simple to follow set of instructions:
http://solo.dc3.com/dinc/
Will be the same when/if 2.3 hits.
I don't think there are any legit sense roms built 2.3 yet. So we are forced to wait
Does anybody else think that the 2.3 ota is gonna come with Sense 2.0?
Can't wait for 2.3! However, most surely we will have to reset all settings before can update.

I would enjoy sense 2.0 . Heres hoping!
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
i really hope so. that would be incredible.
I for one like the sense clock, but I don't like the launcher, hope they add more buttons to push, like putting all the most used stuff together, like contacts.phone.messaging.browser....all on the same line. Maybe not in that order though.

If you guys wanna try a great Sense 2.0 ROM I would suggest Warm Z TwoPointTwo. Been using the nightly 3/31 and its a fantastic ROM with great stability. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901822
I think I'm done with custom roms, not a single one I've tried has been stable so far, even though they say they're stable. I think it might actually be something with my phone that's causing instability with roms.

Sometimes u have to try different rom/kernel combos to figure out whats best for u. I have great luck with nils business z and re eng z, both using ziggys latest bfs w/o havs kernel. Im even overclocked and there both more stable than stock with fantastic battery. I wouldnt give up, your combo is out there.

Wouldn't there be some word from HTC if so? They did confirm the GB update in Q2 but didn't say anything about sense 2.0 in the emails I saw..

sense 2.0 is kind of old now because of sense 2.1 and sense 3.0 on the evo 3d. I hope it comes with 3.0 because of the carousel effect.

The problem is, we have to deodex and remove a bunch of stuff just to even get it to fit on our phones. 256mb of space isnt even close to the size of the roms most of these sense 2.0 and 2.1 phones are coming with.
Most of my sense 2.0 ports so far, i had to remove at least 200mb apps, odex files and extra Verizon stuff. Etc...
Im not sure Verizon would be ok with not being able to have any Extra's at all.
Im not sure they will uprade Sense simply because they wont be able to fit it.
I have asked HTC on twitter like 3 or 4 days ago if they can tell me anything about it. They are yet to respond.

Dear (my name here),
I understand how exciting it is to have the latest updates for your Incredible. Google has announced that most Android devices that were created in 2010 or later would receive the Gingerbread update. However, we do not have a time frame of when the update would become available. We will not know which features would be included or updated until the update if ready for release. When updates are announced, you can find the information at www.htc.com/us and www.twitter.com/htc.
To send a reply to this message or let me know I have successfully answered your question log in to our ContactUs site using your email address and your ticket number XXXXXXXXXXXXXX.

my thought is that it will probably be like the Eris 2.1 update. It will have most of the gingerbread goodness, and there will be a few sprinkles just to add some flavor, but the official "GingerSense" will probably not have all of the sugary goodness that we want in our Rom. How else will they generate upgrade eagerness in all of those who don't explore all the goodies that come with rooting and flashing the beautiful roms we find on XDA.
Personally, I'm rockin the WarmZtwopointtwo.
IMO, an official GingerSense update will need to be pretty nice to overcome all of the custom options we have available to us. (And really, waiting for that update to be torn apart, gutted of all the ridiculous bloatware, padded and polished with root app goodness, then zipped back up...is probably going to provide the best GingerSense Rom update that we can expect)
I'm willing to bet that we will not see Sense 2.0.

If its hacks an Roms you want? THe Dinc 2 is great!!!
The dinc 2 is a great phone with plenty of Roms to choose from. If I had an upgrade i would get the new $300 HTC smartphone (but thats just becuase of the specs).
If you get a dinc 2 it will be running android 2.3.4. THat version is not rooted yet.
but you can downgrade to android 2.3.3 using this

for Rooting Revolutionary gives permanent root for some devices , and for others it give root but not complete permanent root ( incredible 2 is in the second group i believe ) , go to thier website for more . still you can install do all rooted things
as for Roms , if you are using CDMA there is plenty of excellent Roms Sense 3.5 . if you want GSM very few Roms for that and the maximum is Sense 3 for a stable bug less GSM Rom
the phone is nice , and battery is Very good in my opinion
Got mine at Costco for $30.
Might be a good time to check eBay/CL for a used one...

I say go for it. Rooting was fairly straightforward and I have never used adb before that. I love it so far though. It gets way better battery life than the thunderbolt and has cynanogen mod as well as really good sense roms. Also the dev have a pretty decent ICS beta out so if you want that it probably it will be stable I a bit. Enjoy
Hi all,
I'm still on the fence about rooting my t989 and so I'm looking for advice. I got the 2.3.6 update and I really want ICS but I'm willing to wait for it though. Also, I'm pretty conservative when it comes to risks such as rooting due to warranties, bricking, and losing functionality. However, I'll be traveling for a while and tethering could be handy and titanium backup has always been attractive to me. But what happens if ICS comes out? I think I loose root if I update OTA, but I should be able to get root again. I'm not a big fan of real 3rd party software because I don't want to work with bugs so if I got a new ROM, it may only be CM9 or similar as reliability is important to me. And then I don't want a new ROM if it doesn't use the Linux Kernel since Ubuntu is developing that OS to share that Kernel. Do I even need a new ROM? I think touchwiz is fine. Pages of apps are better than scrolling through them IMO.
So any suggestions on what I should do? Thanks!
Root it unless you plan on running stock ics. Chances are the ota will be releases here before it hits your phone we have a couple really nice ics roms right now. Don't know what your waiting for lol

It's all good with me, at least I have my wifi calling and no delay or echo while taking my minibath.
Rooted mine several weeks ago. Tired of waiting for official ICS from T-Mobile and Samsung. Once the official version is released, the devs will have a rooted version available for flashing so you won't have to un-root.

+1. Its easy to unroot and return to stock if need be. Till then we have fully functional daily driver ics roms already so what are you waiting for? Take control of your device. That's why you went with android over iOS and wp7 in the first place anyway isnt it?

This is the thread i followed to root. Very simple instructions. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1311194 but yeah same method one has pics one dont.
Edit: Unrooting the phone is the same process as rooting except you flash a different file to the phone.
My suggestion is to root. But don't sweat CM9 it is pretty buggy right now because its still beta and isn't officially supported on our phones. But there are plenty of stable ICS roms now and even if u don't care for the few bugs that some may have, there are also some amazing GB rooms out there too.
Just my 2 cents.

But I don't NEED a new ROM do I? Doesn't it just change the GUI? Basically I just want tethering and freeze bloat apps and ads, but a battery life boost would be great. How much does it change under the hood to expand capability? From what I can tell, root apps are the only thing that expands features.
Root and install a rom... If you think your phone is good, with a rom you'll see your phone is just great
Sorry for all my questions but is the kernel held within the ROM? And whatever ROM I choose, I can just flash to different just like that huh? Like it's an easy process?
My brother has Juggernaut, it didn't look any different than touchwiz except for flashy little things like the screen turn off and stuff. I just need function, not flash.
Some roms com with their own kernels, like TDJ's ones... You can flash a rom and then change it for another, but you have to wipe your data for a clean install (there's always the option to backup your info)
