My x-Box gamertag was not associated with my primary email address.
I used my primary email address on my phone as it is my Live Account sign in. When I did so, it created a generic player12345677 gamertag in the Xbox live tile.
I've had it this way for the six months or so since I've had my phone.
Recently I decided to transplant my actual Xbox gamertag over onto my phone. In order to do so, I had to "recover" the generic player1234456 onto my Xbox console and associate it with a slush email account to free up my primary email address and live account login to be associated with my actual Xbox gamertag. When I did this, The generic player 1234566 gamertag wouldn't remove from my phone. I tried several soft resets, but player12345667 stuck around.
I went ahead and hard reset the phone and my actual gamertag finally showed up, whew. But all was not well, as when I went to reinstall the apps, I was asked to pay for apps I already paid for. I checked in ZUNE and my entire purchase history was gone. UGH!!!
I did a backup restore of an old 7008 of my phone and my actual gamertag showed up and the apps are still lost in cyberspace...
I never changed the LIVE ID on my phone or the email address associated with it. All I can figure is that marketplace associated my purchases with my gamertage email address?!?! Wtf is up with that?
Any thoughts from the collective minds here on XDA?
this post deleted and combined with above post. xda app for the phone sucks at long posts. this is more frustrating concidering I have now bought it twice...
No one here can help you with billing issues, best to give Microsoft a call and explain what happened. I don't think your purchases are tied to your gamer tag, they should be tied to your Windows Live ID. So this is odd that simply changing your gamer tag would nullify all your purchases on the same Windows Live ID the purchases were made on.
http://www.zune.net/en-US/support/contactsupport.htm
Your purchases ARE associated only to your gamer tag (and what WLID your gamer tag is associated to). If you use your XBox to switch the gamer tag to another WLID, your new game tag on the old WLID *WILL NOT* have any of your history, as the history will migrate with your gamer tag to the new WLID.
After buying three more WP7 phones for my family, I created a new WLID and moved my gamer tag from my main WLID to a new one that all phones would use as their primary WLID. This worked great and all four phones (had to reset the original one to the new WLID) had access to purchased apps, my Zune Pass, etc, that was associated to my original WLID.
What I didn't realize is that by performing the above (which incidentally was what my App Hub account was using) completely hosed my App Hub account. I had to wait 30 days to switch my gamer tag back to my original WLID to access App Hub again and no-one (App Hub Support, XBoz Support, etc) could help me. For your App Hub account to work, the Game Tage and WLID must match the original combo, or it will error and your are toast.

XDA app is crap.. I cant believe I paid for it..
actually, this is how Live IDs work:
Your *actual* Live ID is a long text string of seemingly random letters and numbers. This is what makes your Live ID and this is what your content actually belongs to.
Your email adress and Gamertag are connected to that Live ID, in the background Live always uses your Live ID to identify you. When you change your gamertag or email, the Live ID string stays untouched.
Changing Gamertags costs money (800 Microsoft Points), changing email adress doesn't (IIRC).
What you did is change the email to both of your live accounts.
Now your "new" Live ID with your "good" Gamertag is associated to your proper email adress, when you connect your phone with that, you'll use your "new" Live ID. Your content is licensed to your "old" Live ID with the player12345 gamertag and now your slush email account.
AFAIK, MS can not or will not transfer licenses from one ID to another, but you can try calling their billing support if you want.
Alternatively, this is what you can do: revert your email adresses back, so your player12345677 GT now has your proper email adress. Buy 800 MSP to change your GT to a non-generic one (can't use your old one, though) and "start fresh". You should be able to re-download your content using this Live ID without problems.

For those who have WP7 and have it paired with a LIVE account, could you please confirm something for me please?
I have a LIVE account, ***account***@live.com
WP7 contacts have "Anniversary" field
When I login to hotmail using any web browser and go about creating a contact, I can't see the "Anniversary" field. So how/where will WP7 sync that information to?
Attached is the screenshot of what fields I see when I create a new contact in LIVE.
Am I missing something here?
No, you are not missing something. There are a lack of reciprocal fields on Live to that on the device. These fields do exist on Outlook though.
yea, use outlook live connector to get the full functionality of these fields, or pair them up with the appropriate facebook contacts and it will get populated from there.
I tried the outlook connector but it doesn't sync the Anniversary field from outlook to the live contacts, everything else does get synced.
did you remember to resync and make sure you're modifying the contact card that is on the live account?
You might also want to look at alternative methods for syncing Outlook back to your phone. Personally, I'm very anti Live for so many reasons. I've gone for a hosted exchange method for the time being so it's all Outlook back to the phone.
Remember though, that whatever method you choose, the phone doesn't have the same complement of fields as Outlook but it has more than Live

Most of my contacts are full of information and I have gone through with all my contacts to get the list of fields that I use, i.e. within Outlook.
Anniversary is the only field that I want is not there in live contacts, rest are all there. Doesn't matter where I sync it from, if I don't have a hosted exchange account mentioned below, I will not be able to get that field through live contacts.

I have 3 domains that are hosted and between them I have around 10-15 accounts and at the moment the email service is done free due to hosting service agreement. Exchange accounts are not cheap and I am not sure I can afford to move all of them to exchange. And many Exchange providers I have looked also changes extra for ActiveSync kinda functionality.
Anyone know if its possible to use different Live accounts for different purposes? You can add a second Live account for email/calendar/contacts - but what about the other functions? Right now, the primary account is used for marketplace/zune/xbox/office/skydrive/etc. Is it possible to use, say, a different account for xbox and office?

No, it is not. The primary Windows Live ID will always be used for Marketplace/Zune/Xbox/Office/SkyDrive/Contacts/Calendar.
The only option you can toggle would be Email for the primary account, and Email/Contacts/Calendar for any other Windows Live IDs.
I tried to have two accounts but every time i plugged my phone into my computer the Zune software would sync with one or the other. Got tired of manually switching it.
Works the same was as Android and Ovi. First account you put in is the one it uses... For everything.
Does the same apply if you set up an exchange account first and then a windows live? I would like the office hub to integrate with my work but keep Xbox live off of that account.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
You can only sync one live account on WP7.

It doesn't matter what order you create your e-mail/Exchange accounts on the phone, whichever Live ID you sign into first on the phone will be the primary one, whether you sync it when you first turn on your phone, or two weeks later after adding your Gmail/Exchange/Yahoo! sync accounts.
Hey
I was just wondering how many of you would like the ability to disable contact and calendar syncing from your main Windows Live account linked to your phone? When I first realized this was the case I immediately hard-reset my phone and made a new Windows Live account just for the phone so I would not have my 300 Live Messenger contacts in my People Hub however, this is not the case for everyone, and this solution has disabled my ability to find my phone from the internet if it is ever lost or stolen.
The point of this thread is sheer curiosity as too how many xda-dev members are affected by this poor choice of implementation.
What is your make-shift solution?
I read so much about all these extra contacts from Facebook e.a., but really don't experience it as a problem whatsoever. I have some 600+ contacts on Exchange, don't know how many on Facebook, and my Windows Live account pulls data from several sources including LinkedIn, totalling some 700.
I have yet to have a single instance where it's a problem. I mean, scrolling through the contact list would certainly be a pain, but there's search.
Before I even got a WP7 phone, I read that there wa sno way to disable contact sync from your Windows Live account so I just created a new one and using that for the time being. It would be nice to have the option to actually disable that part because I wouldn't mind using my normal Live account which is also linked up to my Xbox account, as I don't believe you can change the email on them?
I wish there was an option to do this
It doesn't bother at all. On the contrary that was the opportunity to get rid of all the rubbish contacts I had on Live Messenger and those that I kept I gave their proper ID, not some random childish name they've been using on Messenger. My contacts list actually looks like an adult list now.
There's no way I would create a new Live ID just for that reason as I've been using it for too many years and it's tied to my Xbox and Zune accounts.
I'm fine with the way it is.
By the way I cleaned up my Facebook contacts the same way. No points having hundreds of contacts I don't care about or barely know. My Facebook friends are actual friends and it's much better like that.

I think that the implementation is great. With calendar and contacts everything gets synced and you can always set the facebook account to only show data for those in your phone or live account.
About the Facebook settings, its great to have it set like I mentioned above and being able to search them at the same time even without them showing on the All section in the contact list.
I took he same approach as you and went to clean both my Live and Facebook accounts. I have everything synced and working flawlessly for my contacts.
I did the same as others and after realizing how many useless contacts I had in Live I just deleted a bunch. However, that should absolutely not be what Microsoft makes you do if you want to manage your Live contacts with WP7.
I really wish they just gave the same filtering option that Facebook's sync provides. Now I still have some 100 people extra that I want to keep but don't want to see on my phone that I am stuck with.
I assume they do this because of the way email works--if you hid the contacts in the People Hub then you may not be able to email those people using your phone.

yea but answer this, how many times have you emailed a friend for a NON-BUSINESS related subject as opposed to IM'ing them or posting on their facebook wall/inbox.
email is dead.
ME!! ME!!!
I don't want to sync ANYTHING from the live account but xbox live stuff and email. I don't want contacts, calendar, etc, etc.
I have an exchange account for that.
It's annoying to see two calendars listed even though I only use the one in my exchange account. It's also useless for me the photos, feeds, etc, etc.
I wish that every single account would let me pick what I actually want to sync.
I have a primary GMAIL account that is my main one that has all my contacts etc...
When making purchases in Market Place this is the account that the transactions usually take place on.
However, I recently purchased a game on another account (somehow it was logged into one of my other GMAIL accounts) and it's annoying having to switch accounts when trying to play that game.
Because if it's not on the account it was purchased on, the game icon would show up as not being installed on the phone.
Anyone know how to transfer purchases if it's even possible?
the new version of Android Market 3.3.0.0, lets you choose which account to purchase from
Correct, which I'm using.
The purchase has already been made on my other GMAIL account as oppose to my primary GMAIL account...
I'm wondering if there is away to transfer (authentication?) my purchase over form my secondary to primary GMAIL so I don't have to always switch to the secondary to play the game.
Otherwise, I have to keep switching back and forth and it's annoying.

The simple answer is no, they limit this to prevent piracy. You could pull the game from Root/Data/App and try to install it like any other app.
Hi everyone,
I tried adding other Gmail emails to my email app without adding accounts to the phone but no way even tried Microsoft outlook if you use other email addresses it is ok but if you try Gmail email apps you been diverted to google again to add an account to the phone. This awful google you already have info why trying to get synching everything on the second phone.
Another solution just listens the mr google and add an account for every email that you use and stop synching but I didn't like this because I read somewhere it keeps synching everything.
3rd party email like yahoo is ok but not really safe to me.
Here we go microsoft outlook if add from inside app at reader mode yes allow adding gmail.com emails.
so found my own solution.
inn outlook app hit top left and all the way down to wrench icon you ll see + add account (it is not adding google account just adding emails.
Great
Try the Nine email client - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ninefolders.hd3&hl=en
I use it for all my email addresses - Office 365, IMAP, and even an old POP address.
It costs $10 but good programs should cost money.

Try Aquamail. The first thing I always do is remove or disable Gmail and install another email app.
