[Q] Multiple LiveIDs? - Windows Phone 7 General

Anyone know if its possible to use different Live accounts for different purposes? You can add a second Live account for email/calendar/contacts - but what about the other functions? Right now, the primary account is used for marketplace/zune/xbox/office/skydrive/etc. Is it possible to use, say, a different account for xbox and office?

No, it is not. The primary Windows Live ID will always be used for Marketplace/Zune/Xbox/Office/SkyDrive/Contacts/Calendar.
The only option you can toggle would be Email for the primary account, and Email/Contacts/Calendar for any other Windows Live IDs.

I tried to have two accounts but every time i plugged my phone into my computer the Zune software would sync with one or the other. Got tired of manually switching it.

Works the same was as Android and Ovi. First account you put in is the one it uses... For everything.

Does the same apply if you set up an exchange account first and then a windows live? I would like the office hub to integrate with my work but keep Xbox live off of that account.

You can only sync one live account on WP7.

It doesn't matter what order you create your e-mail/Exchange accounts on the phone, whichever Live ID you sign into first on the phone will be the primary one, whether you sync it when you first turn on your phone, or two weeks later after adding your Gmail/Exchange/Yahoo! sync accounts.

It should be added to "NOT WORKING IN THIS BUILD:" as part of the build route....
Thanks to all developers making things work here.

Okay.
One hour to install this stupid software.
And it's still not done.
Seriously, how can someone use this damn windows os ?!?
If you are talking about HTC Sync software. Your PC may be overloaded restart pc and reinstall software it should not take more that 5 -10 minutes.

Import/Export of a C.S.V file is VERY easy between google/outlook.
you are all talking cross transfer I want to transfer direct not using Advert supported Gmail which I already use.! I want to sync Outlook direct. No way I would be slave to google for my email and other services. It is a commercial dive!
Sorry guys get your priority right. I am already using Google but I will not let them put Advert in my Email... No thank you!
Free or slave!

Am I missing something here? I don't get advertisements "in my Email." However, I do get advertisements surrounding my emails in a browser. Does that make me a slave to Google?
I take it you don't search using the major search engines like Google, Yahoo, or Bing either?
Check what is Google is planning they have right to include ads in your email as they wish. Since they have not implemented yet. Once they decide every email can include keyword base ads in delivery. if you mention Laptop you will get ads by Dell or Toshiba! So GMail will never be my main email for that reason only.... I always believe there are no free lunches! by Corporate.

But will it sync with Outlook?

Hi All,
I've searched on this topic but can't find a full answer.
Seems it is possible to sync but not automatically as with WinMo.
Does anyone have the definitive answer?
Yes it will provided your company doesn't have any additional security demands.
I work for a company that imposes certain security rules that the Android Exchange sync doesn't support like forcing the device to have PIN to unlock the phone. Its to protect the email on the device in the event of lost or theft. It'll also permanently lock the device if 10 failed attempts are made. It can only be unlocked via our corporate mail server. So the thief or finder would have to re-flash the device in which case the corporate data would be gone from it and be safe.
If you company uses such security rules, you won't be able to use the integrated exchange sync. You can purchase the Exchange Sync app by Touchdown and it will work regardless of your security policies.
Yes it should by using HTC Sync ...my wife's Hero has no problems. However, she typically syncs Outlook with her Google account and the phone is automatically kept synced with that.
i think the desire has more advanced exchange intergration, check out the product description on htc's website
Your work email, calendar appointments, and contacts, are right there on your phone - you can even look up any company contact in the global address book. The HTC Desire also has enhanced support for Exchange security features such as password protection and remote data wipe

You are absolutely correct. I've been waiting for this for quite sometime. Thanks to your post, I decided to check the UK version of their website and found all the info on it there. Their US site doesn't appear to have any data for this device.

i'm using the Desire ROM on my Nexus One and - assuming no change in the Exchange features at production - it will have full exchange integration, including that FRIGGIN pin! i can't speak to the wipe features because i haven't tested that (and don't plan to, lol). since my Exchange email is from a personal account, i had my service provider disable the PIN requirement so i can use the pattern lock feature instead.
I don't believe it has [full] support for 'desktop' outlook sync? I used to use my WinMo device to sync to a work Exchange account but have had a blackberry so no need for that.
What I still need to do is sync to my home computer's Outlook via Active Sync to sync contacts, calendars, tasks, etc.
I believe the HTC Sync is a bit limited in this respect? The only answer that I get on searching the net is to use Google services, not really an ideal solution for those who do not/want to use it.
So is it possible to switch off syncing with google servers and just sync with the Outlook on my home PC?

I think the poster mentioned that HTC Sync is used for this. Although I dont think it does Tasks?
MyLink
Just found this software (out in April):
http://www.wavestore.co.uk/index.php/products/mylink-desktop.html
The Advanced version is already out but lacks OTA sync'ing.
It's a bit sad that what I would consider to be a fundamental piece of software for any phone, for the foreseeable future, we will have to pay for. But a small price to pay for the other benefits of an Android phone.
If you want to Sync Outlook and Gmail I use GSyncIt - £10.
I don't really like the fact that Google doesn't support Tasks 'explicitly' (I believe it uses another instance of a calendar to achieve this?).
Not important to those who dont make use of tasks of course.

I was excited and then very disappointed. The Mylink software does a sync via a multi-step process.
after the USB connection...
Mount the SD
run the sync software on the PC
unmount the sd
run the sync app on the device
After that's all done, you can only access the sync'd data via a custom app.
MyLink is just useless
Is there a reason that there's no app that syncs with Desktop outlook, like Windows Mobile via Active Sync? Is there a restriction on using Active sync, or is the protocol unknown?
but HTC Sync does that surely?Thats what I'm hoping for anyway! I need to sync with TWO desktops (neither exchange) calendar and contacts, and preferably tasks. From what I've read HTC Sync will do calendar and contacts to a desktop PC via USB
It does. But, HTC Sync requires the HERO Framework, so stock android users are out of luck.

Tied to Google Calendar?

I'm likley to be an Android newbie and read the thread below on the calendar. Work forces me to be tied to Outlook and I don't really want a three way sync Phone/Google/Outlook. Will I be able to just work with Phone/Outlook without Google?

I think so. You just have to register your exchange account on the phone and disable synchronization of calendar on your google account.
EDIT : ho, maybe I misunderstood. Maybe you don't use exchange server Anyway, you CAN disable google calendar synchronization.
EDIT2 : and I found this ^^ : http://www.android-sync.com/
Thanks Kiiv
Sounds good and thanks for the link. I do use M/S Exchange via data/wifi connections on occasion but when in the office I sync Outlook to my current Winmo phone over a cable. The link you gave is to a very early 'pre-alpha' piece of software - surely there is something already in existence for Android to Outlook over a cable (an equivalent to Active Sync?)
You want HTC Sync. I use it with my Hero and it will sync outlook 2007 contacts and calender.
http://www.htc.com/uk/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=631&news_id=270
This software actually works with all HTC Android phones so guess it will also work with the Desire..
There is an official sofware from HTC (named "HTC sync") to synchronize with Windows PIM (so Outlook). I think it works only with Sense phone (an other advantage for the Desire over N1? ).
Don't find english page about this (only french) so I can't put a link.
EDIT : Damn, I'm to slow

When the whole company use Outlook 2007 and they are paying for the phone it's difficult to use anything else.
While, I suspect, most of us here have abandoned Windows Mobile 6 it's still very much a Microsoft world for most of the business community. If it wasn't for HTC Sync and "Documents to Go" to read Word and Excel files I would be forced to have a Windows Mobile phone.
I agree if you don't need to use "Outlook" then don't!

Let me see - are those enough as a start:
- battery life and constant cellular data. expensive & not needed.
- So far for WM ActiveSync (or email push) from google is a disaster. Calendar as well. Don't want to take chances to have that as the only option available.
- G-cal is a disaster, when it comes to something more than dinner reminders.
- tasks? categories?
- Shall we all just give all our personal & corporate data to this company for free?
- Don't like the idea to have an OS, advertised as open source, but not able to connect to =! google. blah, symbian is more open.
- How do you think the employer will react on the idea to bring the corporate data outside to the major well known data stealing giant? I'd like to remind we're in EU, not in U$-the issue can easily end up in the court.
- what if I'm working abroad? paying hundreds of euros just because I can't sync the calendar with the laptop next to me without cellular connection?
- why exactly google? I might want to use another cloud calendar for example

Ahh ok, I didn't think about it like that.
In that case a simple solution would be to sync outlook (mail and calendar) to google? This way your phone will always be in sync and changes you make on your PC would automatically be pushed to your phone instead of you having to connect via USB and use HTC sync.
...and we have gone right round the circle! I don't want to use Outlook but I have to for work. I don't want to try and sync three systems if I can get away with syncing two... and yes I am slightly luddite about putting all my data in Google's hands
But seriously - thanks for all the replies
same boat, I've put my hopes in HTC Sync and if it doesn't work I'm in trouble! Still can't sync tasks though with HTC Sync
"G-Sync It" £10 but works nicely!

Am I missing something?

For those who have WP7 and have it paired with a LIVE account, could you please confirm something for me please?
I have a LIVE account, ***account***@live.com
WP7 contacts have "Anniversary" field
When I login to hotmail using any web browser and go about creating a contact, I can't see the "Anniversary" field. So how/where will WP7 sync that information to?
Attached is the screenshot of what fields I see when I create a new contact in LIVE.
Am I missing something here?
No, you are not missing something. There are a lack of reciprocal fields on Live to that on the device. These fields do exist on Outlook though.
yea, use outlook live connector to get the full functionality of these fields, or pair them up with the appropriate facebook contacts and it will get populated from there.
I tried the outlook connector but it doesn't sync the Anniversary field from outlook to the live contacts, everything else does get synced.
did you remember to resync and make sure you're modifying the contact card that is on the live account?
You might also want to look at alternative methods for syncing Outlook back to your phone. Personally, I'm very anti Live for so many reasons. I've gone for a hosted exchange method for the time being so it's all Outlook back to the phone.
Remember though, that whatever method you choose, the phone doesn't have the same complement of fields as Outlook but it has more than Live

Most of my contacts are full of information and I have gone through with all my contacts to get the list of fields that I use, i.e. within Outlook.
Anniversary is the only field that I want is not there in live contacts, rest are all there. Doesn't matter where I sync it from, if I don't have a hosted exchange account mentioned below, I will not be able to get that field through live contacts.

I have 3 domains that are hosted and between them I have around 10-15 accounts and at the moment the email service is done free due to hosting service agreement. Exchange accounts are not cheap and I am not sure I can afford to move all of them to exchange. And many Exchange providers I have looked also changes extra for ActiveSync kinda functionality.

Phone-only Contact & Calendar Sync (Non-Gmail)

I have a question that I know has been addressed hundreds of times. I'll definitely be upgrading from the S3 to the S4 so thought that I'd ask now.
I don't want to run into this issue when I do upgrade. I don't use Gmail & never will. I use Outlook exclusively, & always will. My problem is that my Contacts & Calendar have never synched correctly (obviously) since I didn't follow the Google-oriented setup.
I currently use Deja Office with Outlook to sync these items, & more, but I can't set ringtones, etc. Can someone point me to a good workaround to bypass using Gmail or an easy way to integrate. I want to sync my contacts & calendar only for my phone, LinkedIn, & Facebook, & that's it.
I just don't want to be in the same predicament when the S4 finally rolls out for AT&T.
Thanks.

Are you on an Exchange server or do you just run Outlook as a standalone client? If you're on an Exchange server, get your admin to enable ActiveSync on your account and your mail, calendar and contacts will sync wirelessly.
Or get a Windows phone. Android works much better when you're tied into the Google ecosystem.

I believe there are a couple of pc desktop applications that will sync contacts and calendar from outlook to gmail. At which point you can sync to your phone of course. However they are not perfect and they do not get around using Gmail. For seamless and non painful integration and sync with outlook, windows phones are your only option currently.
I used to be the same way with Outlook so I understand the pain. However, after I started messing around with Linux, I found Outlook to be more a burden than anything else for me. I had options such as Thunderbird and various other apps at my disposal that played well with all environments (Windows, Linux, and even Apple). And the world of software is moving towards the "cloud" (even at Microsoft) so I decided to give in and have not looked back.
This is the industry standard unfortunately: Android->All things google; Windows Mobile->All things microsoft; iPhone->all things Apple. Blackberry is another possibility but I am not familiar with the RIM phones and how they integrate. Outside of these givens, each mobile OS does not necessarily play well elsewhere.
I totally understand everything that you're pointing out.
I like to call myself an "intermediate" user when it comes down to technological expertise for both PC'S & phones. That said, I'm always looking for additional guidance.
I'm sticking with Android on the phone end so will dig around for some of the apps you refer to in order to use Outlook & Gmail together. I did it on the PC end before so hopefully can find a rather simple system to work on the phone end.

Total opposite of Randun's situation
I have hundreds of contacts on my i747's "phone" contact list that I want to have synced and MOVED to my gmail profile. I don't use outlook but I use Samsung Kies to merge duplicate contacts.
On my phone, I can see both my contact in my PHONE profile and my Gmail profile. I want to move everything to my Gmail profile only. Samsung Kies is useless here. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately there is no real easy solution. Even with the limited software availability, these applications are limited in function usually. Unfortunately there was (and still is) a very nice solution that could work - Google apps sync - but it is limited to business and education accounts. Good luck.
