I rooted my original inc this weekend, and am currently running cm7.1. I've got it backed up, also have another backup for skyraider 4.2, and another backup of the original rom when I first rooted. I flashed like 10 different roms, and backed up my existing rom every time I flashed a new rom, so I have like 11 different backups. Is it safe to delete all but my backup of the STOCKROOT, cm7.1, and skyraider?

It most definitely is. You don't even really need the stock one, as SR4.2 is basically stock in the same way that CM is basically stock: similar, but more settings/features. And, you can always grab a stock ROM in the Android Development section here anyway
Very cool, thanks. I'm new to the root scene, but I'm liking everything so far, the possibilities are endless. Gonna activate my og inc tomorrow and give it a few day shakedown to see how it runs thru a normal days use.

I only have 3 backups, anymore is unnecessary to me.
I keep stock, my latest for Magnolia, and my latest MIUI and delete the rest every chance I get.
Maybe save them to PC? I've got a couple of backups there of ROMs no longer available. So if I wanted to flash them I could, without doing setup, etc.

I rooted my Evo yesterday and flashed myns rom. I like the stock Rom that my phone came with and I would like to return to it. I would like to improve battery life as much as I can but with the stock Rom. So my questions are, Where can I download the stock Rom? I have hw 004 and it came with 3.30.651.3 second question is, what could I do to the stock Rom to improve battery life?

Sprint Lovers is a very close to stock rom, your best bet probally lies there. After that, you can try running a few apps like SetCPU and Juice Defender. You do have to pay for SetCPU from the marketplace though, so it may not be your first choice.
A task watcher or killer also helps, I tend to lean towards Watchdog over something like Advanced Task Killer. You can also try AutoKiller Memory Optimizer, but if you don't know what you're doing, I'd suggest leaving it on the standard settings.
Is the stock available for download? Let's just say incase of warranty purposes and I had to unroot

You should ALWAYS nandroid backup your current phone image before flashing any ROMs. If you would have, you'd be able to easily revert to the stock.
It is available somewhere, but not sure where for 004/3.30.

I did nandroid backup it was part of the instructions I followed to flash a rom. I didn't know that nandroid backup was for that. Thank you.

Watch out, doing that nandroid recovery doesn't get you back to the stock rom for Sprint warrenties.
What you want is How to Unroot the EVO in 2 steps. After that you can take it back to Sprint with no worries whatsoever.

So what is I want a stock rom with some of the sprint stuff removed, is there a way to remove the sprint stuff manually?
Nandroid recovery then unroot for warranty purposes correct? I want to stay rooted so I just did Nandroid recovery...I'm all good for now. Just wanted stock Rom

In these forums are rooted odex/deodex versions of 3.30.xxx.x. Choose your flavor. Improving battery life is subjective at best and the answer comes from you trying anything and everything. People can tell you what works for them but you should take it with a grain of salt, try it, and expect the worst.
Personally, I improved battery life with one simple solution...extended battery. I have tried many roms for the evo and have settled on a rom I built myself. It's funny because I flashed kernels and roms trying to find the best for me and I ended up making my own and using the stock kernel (I have also extended the stock kernel but that's a different animal).

Yes. If you put in the effort you can find anything and everything you need in these forums. If you're good with google you can venture further. I'm not trying to be a **** but I am trying to let you know everything and anything you need is easily found somehwere in this wonderland of a forum.

If you are rooted get titanium backup and uninstall whatever you want including sprint apps.

Again for me I settled on a stock rom I built. I still uninstalled all the sprint stuff and I found that uninstalling every single sense related gibberish helped improve my evo overall (battery, speed, responsiveness, memory space). My info/personal experience is also subjective but you can take it, try it, and if it doesn't work for you nandroid restore is your friend and lifesaver.
Good luck.
Thank you very much. I don't thing your being a ****, I Google a lot of what I asked I just can be a bit ocd and wanted to get info from a forum I trust. Its been a while since I did any flashing but I pick things up pretty fast. I'm gonna try sprint lovers next since its close to stock and experiment with others until I find what fits me best. Again thanks for your input.

wondering..
is the unrevoked hboot drivers this?
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.p...driver_install
also where is the SDK link?
Some reason I tried flashing another rom but it won"t let me and keeps going back to the original rom. I had frankenstein and wanted to check out viper. I dled the viper rom and dropped it into my sd and wiped and did the usual through cwm but everytime i boot back up iot goes to frankenstein.. Any ideas? I even deleted the frank rom just to make sure but that shouldnt make a difference should it?
What version of clockwork? You will need version 3.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
yeah that"s the one I got. It says Viper opened and completed but after reboot it reverts back to franken
oh crap you know what. I have v2.5.1. That's the one I got with that 1 click root process. Is there an updated clockwork for the epic?
same thing too
That happend to me to but from mystic mountain to frankenstein. What i ended up doing was odening to stock rerooting and then flashing. You don't even have to wipe because odining it technically wiped it lol.
seems like a lot of work just to change roms. What doesnt make sense is that randyshear from youtube that does a lot of the rom reviews and installs just changes them one after another with his epic. Is there a 3.0 cwm for epic?
There is a new clockwork version for the epic. I am on my phone so don't have the link but it is a post in the development section.

I just checked their is a link to cw 3 in the first post of viper rom.

Ive got a complete package on my ROM thread,it contains CWM3.0.0.5,and everything else you would need.
Thanks fellas!
Im in the process of trying out new roms, I originally backed up my stock rooted rom, through clockwork recovery, I installed a new rom, and want try out another new one. If I ever want to revert back to my stock rooted rom, should I continue to back up every time, or just install the new rom of my choice.
I only made one back-up of my stock rooted Rom. And I have tried out 2 different roms since then. And today I went back to stock using my back up and every thing worked fine.
So just back it up once and you should be good.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
The stock backup won't change unless it is removed, hence you'll have it to flash if needed. Recommend backing up other ROMs tried , prior to flashing a new one.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
I just back up when I might want to go back. If you have no intention of running that Rom ever again no need to back it up

Here is my question, I like switching between two ROMs. I'm currently running Wildstangs stock ROM with the current Tiny's kernel. I installed CM7.1.0 also with the incredikernel ics+. All was fine with it then i switched back to my stock ROM for a few days but when i tried to switch back to CM7 it gets stuck at my custom boot image. I left it there for 30 minutes just to see if it would boot but nothing.
Now here is the question. Is there a particular way you have to switch between ROMs? As in the wiping process etc.
Thanks for your time.
Sent from my ADR6300 using xda premium
If you switch between two ROMs using a nandroid you shouldn't have to do anything special. If it fails it could be a bad backup. Try doing a full wipe before restoring just in case (format /system, data/factory reset).
Thanks for the info. I just don't like being stuck using one ROM. LOL
Sent from my ADR6300 using xda premium
Me neither. I would occasionally try the latest Sense 3 ROMs after being on CM7 for a while but ended back on CM7. But I'd hate to be stuck on one ROM. Even though I settled on CM9 pretty much on my Galaxy Nexus, I still want the option in case I want to switch as AOKP is my second choice.
I completely agree!
Sent from my ADR6300 using xda premium
Anytime I download a new ROM I always check my md5 sums for a mismatch. I use md5 checker on my phone, cause you can corrupt the file transferring it to your phone if you used a computer to download it.
When doing a lot of switching, I definitely recommend to use VR_SUPERWIPE-edify. You just run it like you would a ROM in your recovery menu and it wipes everything for you. Makes switching go a lot quicker.

I've moved my VZWGnex, like the rest of the herd, to JB and flashed a few kernels for fun. Personally, I had no issues at all. Now, about 24 hrs in, I'm kinda missing all of the customization of Liquid 1.5 (ICS).
Since there are so many threads that have been peppered with issues involving Nandroid/CWM/Alt Recoveries/TBU, I thought I'd start a thread to centralize the experiences.
The central question of the thread is...
Which are the reliable methods for moving from JB to ICS on the Gnex?
Obviously, there will be variations on the theme, based on individual history and preferences, but I've not seen the answer to this question clearly defined in any way other than via fastboot. That may be the only way, but I'm tempted to believe that a nandroid backup can work. Did it work for you?
I have TeamWin Recovery. I simply back up (nandroid) the ICS and then install JB. To go back, I simply restore the backup.

Did not wipe just flashed backup.

In an effort to bolster others' confidence, maybe those of you who have restored ICS roms from nandroid backups could give some extra details, like:
Your daily driver that you backed up before going to JB.
Your preferred recovery.
Your version of JB.
The exact steps you took to restore the nandroid backup.
(Ex: All I did was restore my backup in CWM. Did not wipe.)

Update:
Came from Liquid 1.5 and CWM 5.5.0.4 (it's not the touch version)
Flashed the Vicious JBv2 without issue. Tried several kernels - stock, stock linaro, Franco, etc.
Without wiping, flashed the Liquid 1.5 nandroid in CWM.
NO ERRORS

<just asking>
so you can apparently restore to 4.0.4 cwm backup from 4.1 directly without any issues. is that right? and just a question. can i, after restoring to 4.0.4, restore back 4.1 again? that is without flashing the bigxie's jb rom , simply by restoring cwm backup, would it come back to 4.1?
</just asking>
Incase you are wondering why would anyone want to do that, its just that iv experienced some wifi issues since jb update. and iv seen the verizon wifi fix. iv flashed it, only to make the signal more worse. i bot my nexus from the google play store. so i think i may have messed up the wifi files. by going back to 4.0.4 i want to copy the files in wifi directory from the etc folder. just hoping to get back to the normal wifi conectivity as on 4.0.4. is there anything im overlooking or any simpler solution?
thanks a lot in advance.
Yes. A nandroid restore formats everything beforehand so you will have no issue restoring between 4.0.4 and 4.1.
