[Q] Do I have to back up again?????? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im in the process of trying out new roms, I originally backed up my stock rooted rom, through clockwork recovery, I installed a new rom, and want try out another new one. If I ever want to revert back to my stock rooted rom, should I continue to back up every time, or just install the new rom of my choice.

I only made one back-up of my stock rooted Rom. And I have tried out 2 different roms since then. And today I went back to stock using my back up and every thing worked fine.
So just back it up once and you should be good.

The stock backup won't change unless it is removed, hence you'll have it to flash if needed. Recommend backing up other ROMs tried , prior to flashing a new one.

I just back up when I might want to go back. If you have no intention of running that Rom ever again no need to back it up

Ok, thanks for the info, that has, answered my questions

Can't change roms?

Some reason I tried flashing another rom but it won"t let me and keeps going back to the original rom. I had frankenstein and wanted to check out viper. I dled the viper rom and dropped it into my sd and wiped and did the usual through cwm but everytime i boot back up iot goes to frankenstein.. Any ideas? I even deleted the frank rom just to make sure but that shouldnt make a difference should it?
What version of clockwork? You will need version 3.

yeah that"s the one I got. It says Viper opened and completed but after reboot it reverts back to franken
oh crap you know what. I have v2.5.1. That's the one I got with that 1 click root process. Is there an updated clockwork for the epic?
same thing too
That happend to me to but from mystic mountain to frankenstein. What i ended up doing was odening to stock rerooting and then flashing. You don't even have to wipe because odining it technically wiped it lol.
seems like a lot of work just to change roms. What doesnt make sense is that randyshear from youtube that does a lot of the rom reviews and installs just changes them one after another with his epic. Is there a 3.0 cwm for epic?
There is a new clockwork version for the epic. I am on my phone so don't have the link but it is a post in the development section.

[Q] Help Getting the right rom

Ok I have 2 Evo's being shipped out on Saturday. When they arrive I will be flashing them both to MetroPCS. I just need a little guideance on getting the correct rom.
I believe this is the rom im looking for here;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=795182
IF I understand correctly, this rom is 2.3 Gingerbread based and has Cyanogenmod 7. But there is also a sense version I believe, and I HATE HTC sense ui.
What exact steps do I need to take to ensure that I Flash My EVO with a Gingerbread CM7 based Rom that will work perfectly with MetroPCS?
Everyone makes it sound so easy but I must be missing something.....Please help.
Have you rooted? It is actually very easy to flash roms. I don't believe that cynogen has sence. Not a fan of sence either I prefer asop. But once your rooted simply put the zip of the rom on your sdcard. Go to recovery wipe data, dalvic-cache and cache then flash zip from sdcard reboot and enjoy
Edit: don't know about metro.

Yes that thread seems to be roms for metro.. Cynogen is not sence. so you should be good to go. When flashing roms just make sure you wipe. Not the sdcard though. Feel free to pm if needed. And hit the thanks if I helped.

Quick question on ROM backups

I rooted my original inc this weekend, and am currently running cm7.1. I've got it backed up, also have another backup for skyraider 4.2, and another backup of the original rom when I first rooted. I flashed like 10 different roms, and backed up my existing rom every time I flashed a new rom, so I have like 11 different backups. Is it safe to delete all but my backup of the STOCKROOT, cm7.1, and skyraider?

It most definitely is. You don't even really need the stock one, as SR4.2 is basically stock in the same way that CM is basically stock: similar, but more settings/features. And, you can always grab a stock ROM in the Android Development section here anyway
Very cool, thanks. I'm new to the root scene, but I'm liking everything so far, the possibilities are endless. Gonna activate my og inc tomorrow and give it a few day shakedown to see how it runs thru a normal days use.

I only have 3 backups, anymore is unnecessary to me.
I keep stock, my latest for Magnolia, and my latest MIUI and delete the rest every chance I get.
Maybe save them to PC? I've got a couple of backups there of ROMs no longer available. So if I wanted to flash them I could, without doing setup, etc.

[Q] Negligently flashed theme - Help?

Running stock 2.3.6, T-Mobile, T989. Rooted via ODIN, CWM installed. Wasn't paying any damn attention and flashed a battery theme. Now my status bar FCs at startup.
Is there any way to recover from this, or would I be better off unrooting/returning to full stock and then rerooting, reinstalling, etc?
There may be a better answer, but I would just flash a new rom. There's so keep roms available if that's what you want

well, if you made one do a nandroid backup. should work if im not mistaking
Anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong
Now, see, if I'd been thinking I'd've made a Nandroid before flashing. You know, like mentally stable people do. Unfortunately, thinking wasn't on the menu.
I flashed Zedomax's 2.3.5 and will do an ODIN -> Stock 2.3.6 -> root again once I touch my Windows PC again tonight.
Learn from my failure! Nandroid now, nandroid tomorrow, nandroid forever.

What???
You don't have to root again once rooted already.
Just flash a stock rom from the T989 dev section. Do a nandroid backup.

You can just flash a theme that's made for your ROM... I had this happen to me when I was trying to make my own theme and had bootloops with everything force closing in me so I instead just flashed a working theme to fix it.

What I ended up doing was using ODIN to return to completely stock, then rerooting and removing CIQ by hand. I'm at the point where I'm not interested in flashing anything save the eventual CM9.

[Q] quick question...

and please forgive me for the noobocracy that i am about to commit... i flashed my phone back to stock due to some strange things happening with rom i was using... it was JB. i flashed back to stock GB. i tried to go back to my jb rom, but the phone won't boot. do i need to flash stock ics or an ics rom before going to jb, or do i have a much more serious issue??
Sent from my GT-P5113 using xda premium
More serious issue, but maybe u didn't flash GB properly. You should just be able to usenodin and go back to 2.3.5
my phone is currently on 2.3.6 stock and working fine. let me try one more thing and i will get back to you....
Sent from my GT-P5113 using xda premium
i was able to get things running... i went from gb, to ics, then to my jb rom, and things seem to be working fine. thanks for the reply though...

For future reference, Kies (from Samsung), although a PITA app (I'd install it, use it, then uninstall), installed on your computer, can update/restore your phone completely and fairly painlessly as long as the computer can recognize the phone is plugged in. It's all stock stuff, of course, but it should get you the latest stuff as far as radios and such go as well.
The PITA part of it is it's not just for recovery, it has a bunch of other functions (media management, backup, blah, blah) that are pretty much unnecessary given superior alternatives.
