LOOK WHAT I FOUND!! Wireless Charging Door Spotted - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

I found VZW listing this item on their site this afternoon.... let's hope it's going to be available soon
but then I am not sure if i want it... hm...
http://shop.verizonwireless.com/?id=Wireless Charging Inductive Battery Cover 47610

Still cant stand battery doors that make the phone bigger. Thats my main reason for sticking with stock battery. Although cool, i wont be getting this.

been on verizon's site for a while now.. i don't know why they would put it up for so long if its not even going to be in stock any time soon.

wireless charging eh?.. but still requires a charging pad that needs to be plugged in.
i remember hearing a while ago from a verizon tech(one of the guys who works on the towers) saying that eventually the same signal broadcast from the tower will eventually also wirelessly charge our phones.
that i'd like to see

Wireless charging uses induction. To use the towers would require a LOT of power. If people are worried about our phones causing cancer now, I can't wait to see their response to something like this notion of mobile charging.

[REQ] We need a Fast Charge Battery Driver

Like most of the others in this section, I come from the WinMo world. I just got my OTA'd Evo and I have to say, the battery takes forever to charge. My Touch Pro2 & Touch Pro both have no2chem's fast charge battery driver(it makes it feel like they fully charge in 5 mins) and since we haven't seen him in a while I thought someone else might be able to develop one for our amazing Evo's!!
Please Help!! Thanks in advance!!
Can you provide more info on this? A full charge in 5 minutes sounds ridiculous but I won't out anything past XDA

this has been spoken of before on these forums... it might be in the works, but you are reffering to a fast charge via USB connection rather than wall connection. Wall connection is full speed, USB is throttled down to prevent damage to the USB port on the computer plugged in to.
the process is a great add if you use tether charge a lot, like I do. If I am constantly streaming online on my old winmo phone even with fast charge I would slowly deplete my battery while it was plugged in, I haven't used the EVO much for streaming but I would be afraid to see the results w/o fastcharge.
thats why you buy a couple extra batteries and a wall charger

This. Got a replacement battery and charger on ebay for under $10 shipped. Works out great. Just swap the generic out with the stock whenever my battery starts running low. The only time I ever plug in my phone to charge is at night.
Seriously - if somebody is requesting a valuable piece of development in a development forum, what value are you adding trying to sell him batteries!? Do you honestly think he's gonna be like, "Oh hey, yeah, you're right! Who needs a phone to charge fast when I can just carry around a pocket full of spare batteries and a charger! Why didn't I think of that?"

Perhaps he didn't realize how inexpensively good-quality replacement batteries and chargers can be acquired. Also, a single battery inside a charger case isn't much larger than a wall charger + cable (which by your own assumption he must be carrying around in his pocket).
I understand what you're saying about it being a developer forum and all, but I don't see any harm in offering a feasible solution to a posed problem. I mean, look at Apple. They told people they had to buy a case or stop holding a phone with their left hands!
+1 for this
5 Minutes to charge and 10 minutes of use sounds about right for WiMo
I wish when connect to USB it would trickle charge. that way you don't the drop as soon as you disconnect the phone. so i guess i want to slow things down a bit but just when on USB.

Yes, we need this for sure! Carrying around batteries is NOT the answer.
it wouldn't really charge in 5 minutes, but it would charge about as fast as plugging it into the wall.
and for the person mentioning the developer who was a girl, cmonex legend of hardspl!

this fast charge thing is NOT new to most of us that frequent XDA and other dev/mod forums (PPCGeeks)...and it is perfectly legit to put out a request for...
suggesting an extra battery is good and all...but not always feasible. Apple suggesting what they did was to redirect everyone's attention to THEIR lack of attention on a piece of supposedly high end hardware..that now seems to be flawed. OP has been around for sometime...and the extra battery thing is a good idea already...especially for noobs

Wireless charger?

Anyone know if there is a release date for this yet?
The last rumored release date was April, so who knows. Have you seen the price though? $40 for the battery cover and $70 for the pad, ouch. And it adds a little hump to the back of your phone
I was wondering the same thing, I've been waiting for a wireless charging setup.

Yea that price is rough. The problem is that I have very little to no reception at work and it just eats my battery. I keep my phone plugged in while I am at my desk but take my phone with me when I leave so I am plugging and unplugging thirty times a day...

Same. Ill definitely be buying the wireless charging stuff. Checked my phone.. time without signal 91% eeeeek lol
Where do you look that up?
If you're at 91% something is wrong, also the pad is a one time investment it will work with any device that you get the cover for, so you can charge this phone and then your next phone so the price isn't as bad as it seems when you consider a new OEM charging cable is like 20$
I wonder if the QI inductive battery cover will be compatible with an old palm touchstone charger? Those are super cheap right now. Or if it would be as simple as doing a touchstone cover/charger combo conversion similar to the ones done with the EVO, but simpler because the contacts are visible on the inside of the case?
Just me thinking aloud but I would love to see if there is any interchangeability with these standards and googling isn't turning up much.

External Battery Charger

I don't know if there was already a thread about this, but I searched and didn't find anything.
So my USB port on my cappy is busted, so I had to buy this. I just got it today, but was disappointed to find out that it only charges the battery included (which I believe is a fascinate battery), and I can't use the other 2 batteries I have. The fascinate battery works fine, but I'd rather have 2 batteries to use for a backup. Could someone explain to me why it doesn't charge my cappy/i9000 batteries or any solution?
Edit: Also, nobody else seems to have this problem from reading the reviews.
Well the first thing that comes to mind for me is, are you sure the usb on your phone is busted? Maybe the problem is your original battery has stopped taking a charge. You said busted but I don't know if you mean physically as in you can no longer stick your wire in it, or just when you plug it in the battery does not get charged.
Busted isn't a concise enough description of the problem for me to be able to give a better answer.
I use the oem spare battery charger/stand and i love it.. Might want to try that if you dont get a repair or warranty done

Lol sorry, my usb port will not charge or sync at all. I also JUST ordered another battery, so unless my old battery stopped charging right when my usb port broke, and the new one I got was broken, I don't think it's a problem with the batteries. I just found myself in the same position as of two days ago (damned questionable design for the way the cappy's USB port is set and secured). Did you ever find out if there was a reason why you couldn't charge the batteries that originally came with the phone?
FYI: My timing for the 1 year warranty was awful in that it expired 19 days ago. As for insurance repair/replacement, I wasn't looking at replacing my cappy for approximately $125. So, after looking at doing a Walmart/Target deal, and then finding out they are still charging for tax, when it came down to costs I went with the external charger and replacement battery option after a lot of reading on the web, amazon, and then eventually to the posts on this topic....

Nah, I'm still using the one battery. Sort of a hassle (I can't use my phone as an alarm since I charge it overnight) but I guess I'm happy that I can at least use the phone. I'm still waiting for someone to offer a cheap repair though. It sucks not being able to put anything on my internal sd and having to use the ota miui updates, but it's better than nothing.

Wifi Explorer from the market is great for transferring files to and from the phone using a wifi network since USB is not an option for you.

IIRC the Fascinated battery won't charge in a Captivate and vice versa. They have different part numbers. I'm not sure of the techincal details but it has something to do with the different currents the two phones charge at.

Well that's a bit irritating. I guess then shouldn't have been advertising it as a charger for all phones, then.
I could probably do the repair work if pointed to the correct part necessary to replace the broken USB port. I fear one of these days my Captivate will suffer the same fate.
My qualifications: I do a lot of fine SMD/SMT reworking by hand. Mainly video game consoles and other consumer electronic goods. I have reputation/feedback on other forums as well as eBay if desired.

And it won't charge any of my batteries (2 OEMs and 1 that comes with the phone)

Acer replacement/spare parts?

Hi all, my refurbished tab suddenly decided to stop charging, so I'm looking to see where I can get spare parts for it? Either the battery, the charger, and/or the AC-in port are bad. I already contacted the vendor, and it's still in the 90 day period... but I wanted to have a back up plan.
For argument's sake, The original charger seems dead, I connect it and nothing. I have a car charger, plugged into a DC-AC adapter that starts to charge it briefly, but then it starts acting crazy (it rapidly changes from charging to not charging). I think the AC port might be messed up since there's a faint smell of burned circuits when I sniff the little "port" (was going to use hole )
The tab does turn on, and if I leave it connected to the DC charger it should eventually charge (it charged about 3% with the tab off in about 4 hours).
Ideally I will get a positive response from the vendor (only reason I haven't opened the tab up), but as I said, I rather have a backup plan.
I'm sorry but did you say you kept charging it even after sniffing its (I'll do it) hole and smelling burning? I hope I Mis understood that part. However to offer some kind of help, do you smell anything using the stock charger, and have you wiggled it at all to see if it picks up? Also I would check that other adapter output, 12v and 1.5a iirc. Lower may account for the switching of charging and not, also slow charging. To high may be the smell and you toasting your tablet.
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk 2
Yes I did try to charge it after I smelled the burning. I only noticed that the tab wasn't charging when I heard it whine about low battery even though it was still connected. I then tried plugging it in, and out multiple times and wiggling the connector about to see if it would make proper contact. By the time I got around to sniffing stuff, if something were going to happen I'm sure it would have happened, but just in case I haven't pushed the issue with the stock charger, though it's pretty clear it's as dead as a sexually active teenager in a Friday the 13th movie.
I'm actually tempted to buy a replacement charger if I find one around locally; I'm not going to order it online and wait for "X" amount of days.
In any case, I got enough of a charge to restore it to stock ICS, no unlocked bootloader, no root.... *SIGH* these things are really NOT fun in their stock state.
OK...one last thing to check....the charger has 2 parts on the wall plug side. There's a tab you push down and the blades slide off, under that on the plug side will be 2 metal tabs, check those. I don't know if you had to put that on when you got it, but its something worth checking out. Maybe lightly pull the tabs up, don't get crazy just a little, slide the blades back on and give it a shot.
I would suggest checking the middle pin, however it takes a charge from the other charger you tried, so I doubt that's it, but maybe something worth checking anyways.
I know this isn't the point of the thread, but why replace if its a simple fix?

If you smelt a burnt smell coming from the tablet power port i would not recommend using it and replace it. The charger port is available on ebay as i was searching for other things for this tablet.
Well tried to inspect the charger... the thing looks brand new (well it is only a month old) pins are fine, and the contacts look fine as well. Believe me whenever possible I try to fix things more because I just like tinkering with stuff than anything else, but what I was thinking is that while I'm messing around with that I won't be able to use the tab. I will admit that messing around with power sources/adapters/etc isn't my strong suit... but that makes it even more exciting LOL!
dslayer83, I guess my searching skills have been found wanting. Before posting anything I did some searches but could not find anything through google, or ebay. Just about the only thing I found was the vache's thread where he uploaded the service manual, which has a slew of part #s, but sadly google searches for the parts that interest me don't turn up much.
In any case, I was contacted by the seller today asking if I wanted a refund or a replacement, so maybe I won't have to resort to plan"B". Still curious as to what the hell happened that made the tab go crazy, this is the first time I've had what appear to be hardware related issues with any of my electronics (coming from somebody who owned and abused a 3rd revision PS2, that's quite the statement), so it's all so new. Oh well, guess I'll ignore my curiosity this one time.
Thanks guys.
I would exchange it for sure. Or return, up to you. Aside from battery life and learning to use the screen around that 1 horrid angle, this tab has been amazing, coming.from a nook color to nook tab to kindle fire to a100. For 7" I'm not sure anything comes close for the money.
As for what happened, its hard to say. Could be something stuck in the port burned off, the charger wasn't regulating properly before it died, any number of things. The tab seems alright aside from hole sniffing and charging...anyways if you plan to exchange, make sure you get a new charger too.

Ditto on the return or exchange. Why tempt to repair something that can be replaced. I love my a100 and its the first tablet ive owned and only paid $80 for it. I know i got my money worth out of it already.
pio_masaki, you like this tab more than the Nook Tablet? I don't particularly like the design, but I thought the NT would be the better tablet... then again that just might be because I'm not a die hard Nvidia fan. I know I definitely like it better than the Kindle Fire since I've dealt with those (no SDCARD?... who came up with that?) I do agree though, that for what I paid nothing comes remotely close... though I paid $100 more than dslayer83 (lucky bastard).
Anyways, yeah I'm going for the exchange. If the seller was going to start giving me too much grief I was ready to repair it myself, but they seem to be complying so maybe there will be no need.
It doesn't really have anything to do with me liking nvidia, actually I don't care for nvidia for a few reasons, however the performance and price can't be beat. The nook tablet is just a bootloader locked color with dual core, imo not worth its price. The a100 is a true tablet, cameras, GPS, etc for the same price new.vs new last I looked. Plus now that ics dropped the sources will propel the a100 way beyond the others for performance and rom/kernel deving.
When I had the NT they could only root the stock, no cwm or custom roms available, it may be different now,but for me and what I want from my devices the a100 couldn't be beat. The fire would be second for me, my mom uses it now and it runs fine on ics for the most part.
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk 2
Sorry didn't mean to imply you where an nvidia fan, just that I don't really like them and usually go out of my way to evade them, whenever possible. That said, I just think the Ti chips on the NT and the Fire is better than the Tegra2, plus I hear wonders about the NT screen which I will say is the one area that the A100 didn't really feel great (despite me saying that the Ti chips are better I'm in no way complaining about this tabs power, not by a long shot). It looks super indoors but outdoors it's closed to impossible to read; still that's not a biggie.
Tomorrow I'm sending it back to get replaced, so fingers crossed I get a replacement by the end of next week, or sooner
On a side note, last I checked the NT had CWM, CM9 and the whole thing, though CM9 didn't seem like it wasn't at the daily driver level. I think devs were concentrating on porting the 3.0 kernel to it. I was really interested in getting one, but due to it's shape it wasn't a good fit with what I needed.
I completely agree on the nvidia thing, I have quite a beef about their drivers, also a laptop that has burned out 3 $600 replacement video cards, the last took the motherboard with it. That aside, for my money the t2 offered the performance I wanted vs price and.development at the time. I'm glad they cracked.open the NT, its going to be a very tough unit to beat once 3.0 gets going on it.
Im pro TI by far, and my next phone will likely be one sporting their hardware, or rather anything not tegra like my g2x. The a100 certainly fails screen wise, and if I decide to move from my Acer the NT is definitely on the list again.
Back on topic I'm glad to hear the seller is stepping up and handling business in a professional manner, so many stories about sellers flaking on their products makes hearing of a good one kind of rare. If you don't mind, who did you go through? It may help others looking for a good deal and a seller they can trust will do the right thing.

I'm also hoping to get a phone using TI hardware in the future, but since I'll probably be going to republic wireless in a few months my options will be limited... *SIGH* In the mean time I'm probably buying a pandaboard at some point, though I'm not even sure for exactly what yet. I'd use it for an htpc, but I'm going to use a Raspberry Pi I'm supposed to be getting in June to run XBMC, maybe I'll just shove the pandaboard, instead of the a100, in the car, so many plans, so little money to do them all LOL!
Anyways, the seller is 1saleaday down side it's not a constant stock thing, they'll have deals for well... 1 day. A lot of the times their electronics are refurbished, but despite that everything that I've ordered has come to me looking not "like" new, but brand spanking new. This tablet in particular was refurbished by Acer themselves according to a little label... and while it did crap out, I'm perfectly aware that "sh*t happens". On the topic of shiesty sellers, my attitude until I heard from them should indicate what I think about most stores and their services, but glad to be pleasantly surprised this time.

Im enjoying exploring what all i can do with it. Already using my Infuse wireless hotspot for its internet when im not around wifi. Might just get a car mount and use it for long trips for gps instead of tying up my phone.

That would be epic... but in the mean time it's cool using the tab as a control

Charging Issue

Hi guys,
i have some issues with charging my inc2.
it is not accepting any charge anymore, tried diffrent chargers, cables, even on my pc but nothing. The orange charging LED just flashes slowly on and off...
Any ideas?
Need to replace phone or replace charging port.

Yes, unfortunately it is a known hardware issue. Over time, the charging port starts coming loose. Like mentioned above, you CAN fix it yourself. There are video tutorials on YouTube and the replacement part can be had for under $10. If your device is still under warranty, Verizon will replace the phone. If it's not under warranty (or if you just want to give it a go), the port replacement process is pretty straightforward.
I might give it a try. Does anybody have a video or a link?
The weird thing is, that the battery is discharging very fast, could it be just a bad battery?

Could b the back door on your inc 2. I believe you need the back door on to charge cuz it goes thru contacts on the back. I dropped mine one day and charging and getting signal was almost impossible till I figured that out and bought a new one
Ok.
Seems to charge now. Won't touch it until it is full. After that I will check what is going on.
I don't know where this issue came from.never dropped it nothing. It was even in a Otterbox

The issue stems from regular use. The charging port is essentially held in place only by the connections to the board. Repeatedly plugging and unplugging the power cable causes it to break over time.
actually just replaced the charger port on my incredible 2 today. It really wasn't that difficult at all. If you have any questions feel free to PM me
yeah it has to be replaced. happened to me last month. It's honestly like the worst flaw with this phone

Def need to replace it. Same issues I was having at one point with it randomly taking charge. I found that if the charger is plugged in a held a certain level ( i placed the phone on a flat surface with a book under the cord for leverage) it would charge just fine.
If you are rooted and sending back, make sure you revert to stock to avoid any annoyances.
I've managed to solve this issue without messing around with the phone's innards (the last time I did it was a disaster and I was forced to buy an entirely new phone). It's not pretty, but if you twist a rubber band around the micro usb end of your charger, plug your phone in, twist that same rubber band around the phone itself, and make sure the connection very tight, you might get some more life out of your charger port.
Ugh. I can't wait for my upgrade.
Nice name there Dave.

While, I give you major kudos points for MacGuyver-ing a solution, that's more of a quick band-aid than a real fix. I could imagine having a rubber band around the phone could potentially hinder usage.
But hey, way to think outside the box! :good:

Thank you. You're telling me. Do you know how hard it is to use a touch screen with a rubber band across it? Oy.
Right. The caveat here, of course, is that this technique will only help charge your phone until the charging port becomes so disconnected from the board that no amount of force will reestablish this contact. And this will inevitably happen because you're going to keep plugging and unplugging your phone from the charger which is what created the issue in the first place.
If you know you have big, sweaty, idiot hands (like me) that are going to destroy your phone if you take it apart (like me) and you can tough it out: more power to you. The other alternative is to buy an external battery charger and a second battery. The disadvantages here are pretty obvious (e.g. you have to carry a second battery around; if you forget a second battery, you can't ask another Android user to borrow their phone charger, etc.).
