dear all,
My Telstra branded HTC Desire 8183 died out of nowhere.
Here's what I did:
Rooted with R5
MCR 3.1 ROM (custom kitchen with A2SD+) and r17 froyo rom (mostly MCR3.1)
everything went well, and i was happy with it for 2 weeks (blasting fast HSDPA speed and runs perfectly fine)
i noticed the signal strength was really low two days ago, i thought it was my area having service outage. (called and confirmed) I had my girlfriend's Nexus One AT&T version side by side she's getting full bars.
now the phone will show Emergency Call Only all the time, sometimes even with signal, i wont be able to use the data connection (it's show H, but cant even load google.com with the browser)
Diagnostics that i had done:
unroot with generic WWE rom with goldcard (since the telstra rom that people posted on here have 0.75 bootloader and mine is 0.8 so i can only use 1.21 generic WWE rom)
root again with R5 method
update radio
install MCR 3.1 again
replaced my sim card at AT&T store just to make sure
called AT&T to inquire about service outage
none of them works, now i'm stuck with a phone that doesnt make phone calls and data connection.
did i do anything wrong that mess up the radio of the phone? are these rooting guide and custom rom don't support 8183?
please help me! i really like this phone and it's such a waste to let it sit there
best regards,
ted
The emergency calls only thing is usually associated with a sim problem - like invalid sim, unactivated sim etc.
Have you paid your account?
thanks for the advise
yes i did...same thing happened, sometimes when i get signal, i cant seem to use data connection...cant even make phone calls...if im lucky i can make 1 out of 10 times..
i suspected the sim card problem, that's why i went to AT&T store for a replacement.
Solved
I had the same problem, I also have the A8183
To solve it, I went fastboot mode with USB plugged.
then on Android SDK, I did :
./fastboot-mac enableqxdm 0
./fastboot-mac oem boot
just fastboot for pc
and the phone reboot, turn it off and insert your SIM.
I knew it was fix first boot because sdcard was now mountable.
Then SIM was recognized.
But then I have USB problem in recovery, I think I'll need to flash the misc partition.

What you are describing is the fix for the usb brick issue. This is not the problem here.
To me this sounds like a faulty handset, as all the software fix options seem to have been done. I'm no expert though!
what is fastboot-mac
im using windows xp with androidsdk tools
i have fastboot command...how do i type that?

You can give the commands a go, but I doubt they will help with this. Have a look at the threads on usb brick.

tried the first command, it says "waiting for device"...no response from phone and command prompt at all
hey guys, keep the opinions coming...thanks in advance!
Try flashing to a different compatible radio version as the version you currently have may be causing the poor reception/signal strength issues.

Hmmmm - the rooting process does not affect the A8183 - cos that's what I've got and it works fine. Maybe try and flash the Telstra ROM? That's the one that would have come with the phone in the first place. Who knows, that might reset something? Probably a long shot but you sound desperate!
You can get that ROM in the ROM sticky in this topic.
Now i have 0.80 bootloader it wont let me install the telstra rom since bootloader version being different (0.75)
any idea how i can override that?
After the rooting process when i first got the phone everything was working fine til two days ago

you could try this: http://android.modaco.com/content/h...-com/310186/mcr-telstra-8183-mod-version-3-5/
I think that will work with 0.80 bootloader.
I guess it's not easy to take the device for repair as I'm tippin you got it through eBay or similar, and HTC in the US probably won't support the warranty.
I believe that i had sort of the same issue as you are describing, sometimes my 3G connection died, and there was nothing i could do too get it back, and it sometimes failed to make a connection when i tried to make calls with full coverage.
I don't know how i got the problem, because the phone has been fine since i rooted it 1 week ago.
I decided to go back to the latest radio update I had before I rooted, and now it works fine again.
I used 32.34.00.28U_4.05.00.30_2 from the stock HTC radios thread. (new users not able to post links)
Hope this solves your issue as well, I have an unbraded Desire A8181.

im going to give the radio you mentioned a try...would u mind telling me where are you located and what network provider are you with?
Tried that radio already now it shows signal but the behaviors are the same, feels like its trying to establish connection but got stuck on upload (not sure if thats the case since only the up arrow stay lit but not the other one)
@teddyonair: did u drop down ur mobile by any chance ??? might be some hardware disconnection inside is giving u this trouble i guess.... otherwise with so many software reflashing & modding,ur mobile should have been working by now....
u better get a professional help either from the htc or from someone who deals with htc repairs.... this is my sincere advice if u wish to listen to me.... hope u have not screwed up ur mobile.... might be a hardware problem... just try this once... ok ????
i've managed to unroot the phone with telstra shipped rom. phone has been acting the same way.
so im not sure if it's the hardware issue. anybody has experience how to send the phone back to Telstra Australia for repair?
thanks!
It sounds to me like you may have a faulty antenna in your phone
I am aware that this might be a newbie question, but I did search for an answer and nothing really helped.
I flashed Runnymeade AIO 6.0.4.2 about a week and a half ago. My first flash, without much trouble. S-OFF trough revolutionary, then their root exploit, installed 4ext, and installed the ROM. I then registered for HTC Sense, and it worked. Location worked, the phone rang on command.
The update came out (6.0.4.3). I wiped fully and flashed, and then HTC Sense stopped working. First it kept asking for a password on the phone, and then just went silent. The web service stopped working also. First informing me that it can't locate, and then: "Your device is performing its initial sync with the service. This can sometimes take several hours, depending on how many contacts you have."
I then flashed 6.1 beta (also full wipe). Great ROM, INT2SD works as advertised, but HTC Sense is still not working. The web service says same as above, and the phone says: "Your phone was unable to connect to HTC Sense."
Any ideas, or is this a hopeless cause?
The initial problem seems to have sorted itself out.
But now the online HTC Sense site says:
"We cannot get your location at this time, your phone may be switched off or out of coverage."
or
"Unable to connect to your phone to make it ring."
I've had my Desire since it came out but a problem has just come up: the phone will shut down whenever the SIM card is inserted. Without it it'll work fine, but if i put it in, when it boots, as soon as it tries to connect to the network it'll shut down. I've tried a different SIM card and the problem is the same.
This started by using MIUI but i've clean installed a CM7 based rom and the problem is still there.
My phone is out of warranty so taking it in is not worth it.
Thanks
Did you try to flash a new radio.img?
No i havn't, i, rather stupidly, hadn't thought of that..... i guess i thought that when i flashed a new rom i'd get a new radio!
When you run RUU you get a new radio, but ordinary custom roms don't have that option.
I flashed the latest radio and the problem remains the same.........:crying:
Any other ideas?!
Then it's probably a hardware issue. You can try to disassemble it and try to fix connectors.
I'm now completly los now; the phone switches off with 3 different sim cards but not witha forth!!! I'll have the SIM card replaced even though it does work fine in my HTC ChaChaCha........
Very strange!
Thanks for your help anyway, it's obviously got to do with the card and not the phone so i guess the solutions been found!!
I have had the same problem, until yesterday. I'm running a cooked ICS ROM, and the issue has gone as soon as I have switched to a newer RIL. So don't take it for granted that it's a hardware issue or SIM-related. Hope this helps.

help us
My help
you just have to activate the pin code on security and location setting
but the SIM card must be inserted to activate the pin code
If you never activate the pin code, then the default code is usually 0000
if the phone is turned off before you have to get to the temp setting reply me and i'll tell u what to do
If it worked for u don't forget to hit thanks
Hello, i recently bought an HTC one M8 off ebay in the knowledge that it was "faulty" the phone however works fine except from sending texts messages.
Whenever i hit send it proceeds to kill the network and then "prepare sim", it does this continuously until i delete the text message, then it runs fine again, i can receive messages fine, use mobile data and even make calls.
I have looked online all day and seen people having the same problem but none of those fixes work, so i wonder if putting a custom rom on may fix it or if its a hardware issue
can i try contact HTC under warranty? the phone is unlocked and i use GiffGaff(UK) sim.
did i take a risk and it not pay off like a fool or is there some fix i cannot for the life of me find.
Thanks for any help
Is the ROM stock ? Is the bootloader LOCKED or RELOCKED ? What is the software version that it's running now ?
Maybe a RUU (if available) can fix it.
Post fastboot getvar all result minus serial & imei no and we'll see what we can do.
Fixed!
Hi, thanks for the reply ^^ but i have fixed it now, i was up until like 3am install Skydragon and it now works.
No idea what was causing the issue but so happy its working
Appreciate your time trying to help :3
OK.. great :good:
As expected it is ROM issue
Hey everybody. I have googled a lot now but have not found an answer to my issue. I got an old phone from the company I work for to use as a personal phone for my child. The issue is that the phone was not resetted properly after taking it away from an employee and now when I want to set it up for my daughter there is a google message: "This phone was reset. To continue, sign in with a Google Account that was previously synced on this device". The issue is that the phone has been stuck in a drawer for a few years and no one remembers even who it belonged to. I thought I had the right person and we tried logging it in and at some point it even seemed that it worked but later on I still get the same message. I have gotten an ok from the company to do what I want with the phone (root, hack etc) but I really do not know anymore even know how to start. Tried flashing twrp through odin and recovery, did not work, got some error 21 or smth.
Has anyone good info how to fix it?
Thank you so much!
Hi Tanel what version is it on 520FXXUGCTKA?
Hello,
Exactly.
