why waste such and expensive case? why not just buy a $3 case from ebay and cut that instead?

cause a 3$ case protects like a 3$ case ...

I just posted it...doesn't mean u have to do it..I like otterbox protection..and a otterbox isn't that expensive to me.

I suppose you could buy me one then.

So the battery door can get scratched with this setup? Great protection.

There are NO other cases out there, that will protect the batt door/cover. I've been searching and so far haven't found any! To the OP, did you do measurements or just eyeball where you would cut? I just received a two piece snap together case, and have been trying to figure out how to go about modifying it!

Cool, I have the Commuter on my Cappy as well. I'm still trying to find an extended battery to fit under the stock door, but this is good to know in case I end up getting the 3500mah ebay brick. I think if I try this I will put the case on a work bench, pencil the cut, and use a dremel with a cutting wheel...

omg that poor baby otter

Dosent matter if Extended battery door gets scratched. If I ever sell my phone I would put the stock cover back on.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App

I guess it wouldn't be too bad if you used a dremel. Cutting my case is the only thing holding me back from getting an extended battery. My phone has taken some gnarly falls in my commuter case. Still in awesome condition though!

hmm is there any way for us to cut the case smoothly? any special procedure? i tried moding my case before and ended up with uneven cuts xD im using the zagg full body protection now but its starting to peel which annoys me and want to mod another case any help to get cut smoothly would be appreciated

Which Otterbox case is that? Is it somewhat rigid, or is it more like a silicone case?

Otterbox Commuter. It has 2 layers, a soft rubbery inner layer which is surrounded by a hard plastic outer shell. I personally feel very comfortable with the Commuter, I drop it all the time knowing that phone is well protected.

Thanks.
Hmmm....I wonder how hard it would be to make the same mod to an Otterbox Defender. I want to have on that will mount on a belt clip holster.
Actually, as you were able to do it with the plastic layer for the Commuter, I don't see why I couldn't do it with the Defender. I may give it a try.

Thank! Looks about perfect.
Have one on order.

any idea how to cut the commuter smoothly? I dont think my box cutter can handle it >,<

I would glue the rubber and the hard plastic backing onto the battery door then caulk around the edges for complete satisfaction!
I would also use black caulk, everyone loves black caulk!

I agree, I've been waiting to order this one.
............
Thanks!
I just ordered this case, gotta say been having a real tough time trying to find a quality case for this phone, probably more trouble than have ever had trying to find a case. I mean seriously there is some real crap cases out there. Eh, whatever really hope this is what I've been looking for...fingers crossed!
Mine just arrived today and the case is very slim similar to the snap on cases but the two pieces combine so sesmlessly that it is definitely a step above similar cases, the carbon fiber look is painted on and the unit has a soft touch finish similar to the back of an evo 4g

it gives it more protection than a silicone case but not as much as an otterbox or tough case, it seems like it would protect it from a moderate fall impact, it also adds minimal bulk, not quite as slim a a barely there case but it is close. it seems to be a very high quality case as far as fitment goes

Just so you umderstand my obsession about cases I have a tpu grey case, one of those mesh cases in black, a body glove rubber case, a case mate tough case, and out of all them, I think I use the tough case when I feel like I need maximum protection and this case the rest of the time.

Seidio Innocase Active X - got mine today

I had this case for my incredible and absolutely loved the look, feel and protection. So last week i pre-ordered the thunderbolt active x case from seidioonline. One thing i really like about this case is the feel of the power and volume buttons. Without a case its very hard to tell if you're pressing them. The case is very easy to put on, rubber case first then the plastic shell to hold it together. It also fits (barely) in my verizon droid x leather pouch i use at work which is a big plus. The kickstand is a little harder to open but not to bad. The only bad thing is its a little pricey at $37 shipped but i had to have this case.

I had this on my incredible and loved it, great protection and looks sweet. Looking forward to getting it for my TB. I think they make great products as far as durability and style. If you want indestructible then otterbox is your friend.
I had the active for my Evo as well, with the same breaking tab problem. I'll wait for otterbox, and hopefully it won't take them as long to get out some product as it did with the evo.
i can see the ends breaking if u take the case off the phone a lot. the plastic shell on this one is a bit thinner than the incredible active shell.
I have it on mine right now and its actually really nice. If you push on the sides to raise the tab when taking it on and off you wont break the tabs.
I dropped my TB about 3 feet today onto rugged sidewalk and not a nick on the case. Worth the few bucks!

Thanks for the pics and impressions. I'm still not sure about this case yet though. Might wait it out a little longer. I desperately want rid of this case I got from VZW though.

I'm a big fan of the case-mate tough, it's a similar style to this case with a bit more texture on the back piece for grip, plus I feel like the build quality is a little higher, here's hoping they make one for the TB!
I got mine from bestbuy for 50. Same case just different brand.

I ordered this case , just waiting to get it. Just curious, did they include a screen protector with it?
Think i may just get the cheapo $5 case on amazon with the hopes that otterbox releases their case soon. I have had much better luck with otterbox than seidio plus they seem to be a bit thinner and mold to the device more snugly.

I actually prefer the Tough Case over my Otterbox Commuter. The Tough Case's texture is perfect. The OB is slippery.
Case Mate isn't too responsive though. Maybe if we create a petition?

Why on Earth is there no silicone bumper out there??

As the title says I wonder why there's no such accessory out yet?
I feel the device quite slippy and I don't want to use a common cover.

EDIT: sorry!!! Made a mistake!
I'm looking for the same thing. I hope SGP comes out with the bumper case like they have for iphone4, their Neo Hybrid case is awesome.
There are silicone bumpers, i have one myself. It's not in two parts like the SGP for iPhone (and less sexy) but it covers the back and the sides, that's all i need. Mine is reflective though...But, for 6 euros, i'm not going to complain

I don't want to sound harsh, but... folks... why don't you read what I wrote?
I asked for a silicone bumper and you all keep posting links about covers (they all have the back side covered, so no REAL bumper!) and TPU/ABS stuff!

I don't think "silicone" is a good material to use for a bumper. It's too flimsy and will come off far too easy. I think the TPU bumper depakjan just posted looked really nice so I placed an order for one. TPU is still very flexible but not as flimsy as silicone.

OK TPU material is less flimsy, but what about the grip?
It looks slippy to me.
I've used plain TPU cases on other phones and they're definately not as slippery as the phone itself but I agree that it would have been nice with "friction patterns" on the sides of the bumper.
I've had a silicone case once and it was useless... it came off all the time and the material attracts dirt like nothing else.

Hehe... you want a bumper case where 90% of the phone is already exposed but you don't want dust on the phone?
Since these are very cheap parts I suggest you buy one of each and compare yourself.

A silicone bumper on it's own will not work. I have tried crafting my own in the past for my phones, and unless you have sharp edges on the front and back of the device for the silicone to wrap, it will not stay put. In cases for devices with a smooth edge, a harder material must be used in place of or in conjunction with the soft silicone material.
I will assume you have already counted out the Anymode bumper which is a silicone/TPU hybrid bumper, although I imagine it is the closest you will get. Perhaps you could find a way to rubberize the exterior hard plastic shell of it yourself if you found it to be too slippery.
Well, there is only one thing to say about myself right now... FML! My jacket pocket zipper was snagged on my seatbelt and opened right as I got out of my car, dropping my week-old phone on the frickin concrete, scuffing 3 out of four corners of the dang phone!! I am beyond livid at myself right now... I knew I should have ordered a case earlier.. I overnighted (Saturday delivery, grrr) a case from Amazon that's getting good reviews: http://www.amazon.com/BoxWave-UniCo..._1_4?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1328893866&sr=1-4 if you are interested in it.

I received this bumper case today. I tried it for 5 seconds and threw it away. Offers no real protection... and it doesn't protect the screen if you put it face down. Also it was broken upon arrival (a big crack in one of the corners) so quality must be lousy too!
Back to using my S-line TPU case again.

What cases are a TWO PIECE ??

I currently have an EVO with the otterbox commuter case..
It's a two piece construction..
Silicon rubber that wraps around the phone, then it squeezes into a hard plastic case..
Why this is important to me..
I use it as a cycle computer on my bike.. I have the hard plastic case mounted to my bike and just take my phone and put the silicon around it and it secures into the case.. Making a very secure, safe and sleek mount..

I heard there is an otterbox that DOES work with this phone.. As long as its secured enough (not worried about speaker holes or camera lining up) I would be happy..
What other cases have a similar design?
Thanks

There is no possible way the hard shell comes off without the intention of removing it. Very very solid fit.
I couldn't see any possible way it would come out during biking, even during very rough off road conditions (I know that's a road bike, just saying)

Was I the only one who read its availability as "This item is not currently available"? I think I'm going to go with Seidio.
It shouldn't mess with sensitivity. I can't promise that since the case isn't out yet, but I've had otterboxes on every phone I've had and I always put a regular screen protector on underneath the otterbox anyway and I've never had a problem. I took the plastic off of one of my old otterboxes and laid it down on top of the screen of my Note and tried using the pen and it was super smooth just as if there were no screen protector on at all. I have a zagg shield on it now and I can barely use the pen for anything so I can't wait to get my otterbox.

Yeah. It does. I had it for my iPhone, and it was very well protected. But boy, was the outer layer a dust magnet!
Got my Otterbox Commuter today. I like it a lot, so far. Not as bulky as the Kraken appears to be. S-pen is easily accessible and uncovered. Flaps over headphone and usb ports have winged tabs that secure them under the polycarb outer case so they don't flap freely. Raised power and volume buttons are easily accessible, but require some pressure to activate. For me, this is good as I was always pocket increasing/decreasing the volume. I got it for $29.99 with free overnight shipping and the price went up $10 a few hours later.
