[Q] Confusion on Desire Z HBoot - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm new to this so if I'm doing anything wrong please let me know right away.
I tried searching for the answer on the threads and I couldn't find one, so I'm gonna post it here.
I tried installing Desire Z HBoot on my G2 phone (perm root). I do not have adb on my computer. I was able to flash it but I can't do the adb reboot recovery. If I'm not mistaken, I'm suppose to have that installed in my computer PRIOR to attempting to install Desire Z HBoot. Is my phone bricked? Is there any other option? Please, and thank you.
My phone is stuck on the green HTC screen after rebooting.

People have been experiencing this problem mostly have S-ON but after i rooted with visionary i got S-OFF but i got stuck in Green and white boot screen...anyone know how to fix this,am desparate...
NOTE:
The bootloader screen says S-OFF.
Go to this link and flash the custom PC10IMG by hot_hands in post #33 read the entire thread though, also do not flash a stock PC10IMG what ever you do, or you will be bricked for good. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=912399
Note. This is for the tmobile G2.

THANX for the quick reply, but how do i flash without a recovery like clockwork...?
I dont see a link?
Place the CUSTOM PC10IMG on the root of your sd card then power off or pull the battery then hold volume down + power on and it will find the file and flash it automaticlly. File must be named PC10IMG.zip

Currently downloading the zip...just reading the thread while waiting...Hope it works, Thank you for coming to a noods rescue
I was on my phone when I replied so i couldn't see your carrier info, this file was made for the Tmobile G2, I am not sure if it will work for the Desire Z. Did you see my note in my first reply.
For the Desire Z I believe they have the RUU's for whatever version you had running on your phone
It still worked...THANX A MILLION{",}

It'll work, but it will also flash the G2-specific engineering HBOOT as opposed to the Desire Z one. Not sure there will be any adverse effects, but in case you weren't aware, the Desire Z does have slightly different partitioning than the G2.
Hi everyone... i was using strawmetal's downgrade pdf guide and successfully managed to downgrade my htc desire z to froyo(earlier it was gingerbread)
it also shows hows to permanently root the htc desire z.. i followed the guide to the point and after checking the md5-3 matches md5-2.... i typed in # reboot
now instead of enjoying my freshly rooted htc desire z ... am stuck at the welcome screen...the white with the green htc...
i ve seen the forum n yes there are xplainations of how to go about saving ur phone...
my query is a lil different ...
see , we did everything correctly ..so am sure we shud be able to start the phone with out losing the permanent root and all the other hardwork... i also installed the recovery clockwork ....
somebody show me the way .....
try flashing rom of choice from recovery
First off, Visionary is known to fail frequently which is why it is not recommended to use.
That aside, try flashing a new recovery via fastboot as some versions of CWM are known to hang on the HTC screen.

Installing eng hboot is not needed if you want to root but it is a good idea to have because
it will let you use fastboot commands ,lets say for any reason your recovery fail, you will
have the option to recover your phone through fastboot ,also you will need it if you want
to try different radios. However, if you want to install eng hboot ,you must be very carefull
when doing so otherwise you could brick your phone. make sure you follow every step and make sure that you are installing the the right one .(g2 and desire z have specific hboots).
wait, is it more likely that you will brick your phone if you use engineering hboot? also one last question. i just want to root my phone to install the virtuous unity rom onto my phone and use a fast kernal to allow me to overclock only to 1.3ghz. i dont be doing much else modding on my phone. should i still install hboot eveim if im doing very little?

since you live in canada i assume you have a desire z not a g2 so you do not have to change your hboot for unity ,i didnt say you are more likely to brick your phone if you install eng hboot ,i said it is a good idea to install eng hboot so if for any reason your recovery fails you will have
an option to use fastboot and fix your phone, and then i said be very carefull when installing hboot and make sure you install the right hboot because g2 and desire z partition sizes are different so make sure if you have a desire z you are installing the one for desire z not the one that is for the g2. and make sure you type in the commands exactly like it said in the wiki .
(also seems like the wiki has changed since i was doing this, because i remember installing eng hboot was marked
as optional in the wiki before but now everything is different so you might actually need the eng boot now, i am not %100 sure i would wait for someone else to confirm what i said.)
Thanks for your help, i successfully rooted my htc desire z
@evilcuber May I use your thread to ask an additional question regarding hboot ?
I rooted my French DZ some times ago, I followed a tutorial from cyanogenmod wiki, most probably this one (http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Desire_Z:_Rooting) but I do not remember flashing an engineering hboot.
As I would like to install Unity, I have to check my phone runs the right hboot. Here is the information I have :
Thanks for your help !
I think that as long as you have a DZ and not a G2, your hboot should be fine

[Q] Help with Unrooting G2 from the Desire Hboot

So i put the Desire Hboot on My g2 to run the Virtuous Sensation Rom and i need to Unroot my Phone to send in for warranty.
I have the stock G2 Rom from when way before i restored it and kept it. and its on the stock rom but the S-off will not go back to on.
And i have tried several times to use the G2 unrooting Tutorial and i have tried 2 different Tutorials and non seem to work i get stuck when the PC10IMG is being read after you power down and press the volume button to go into the little white menu with all the information of s-etc.
Well since i have the Desire Z hboot is this why i can unroot my G2? Some please help me.
what it says right now on my screen of my G2 is "Hboot-0.84.2000 (PC1010000)"
and i think i cant unroot bcuz the img im trying to put on is lower then the current one i have on my G2 and it wont give me the option to update when i go into the Setting.
Someone please help me i need to send in my phone for warranty ASAP.
Thanks,

I was also trying to figure this out, did you ever figure it out?

[q] *no rom will boot*

Hi guys, coming from desire hd forum. My friend showed me her phone today (htc desire) and said it was rooted + had recovery. But when ever she tried to flash a ROM, it would hang or just boot loop.
Now I've tried everything to get it back to stock, but nothing seems to work. Any help guys?
I've used the search function to see if anyone else has posted this, found nothing, so hoping someone could help me please. Cheers guys!
Hi,
please provide some more info as:
rom?
s-off?
hboot?
recovery?
sd card layout?
helping you is guess work without these
Hey, sorry, i was in a bit of a rush.
I have it solved now, thanks for replying though! .
For anyone else that faced the problem i did, using s-off with alphaRev 1.8, recovery: clockworks mod _ root and no ROM booting, either because bootloop or won't boot. Then downgrade your HBOOT to the bravo stock (in alphaRev site). Instructions given in page.
Then enter fastboot again, run your RUU from HTC and you should be back to stock.
Cheers.

G2 Desire Z Bootloader brick?

Hello all, I have a question and im slightly worried as i think i may have bricked my beloved G2.
I had Ice Cream JIBwich installed, and I wanted to install the Desire Z bootloader to get some HTC Sense roms on my phone to try them out.
I installed it following the directions of a video i watched, however my HBOOT still says VISION and i cant backup my ROM.
All I see is the HTC logo in green with a white background, and its not booting up.
Help please!
still have s-off? once you change your bootloader you must then flash a new rom
if recovery disappeared then you must use fastboot to flash a new one.
so long as you have s-off you can flash a new rom from fastboot too.
Vision is the code name for BOTH the g2 and dz, so it saying vision is a good thing.
It won't boot because the g2 and dz partitions are slightly different, so the phone is now looking in the wrong place to try boot the rom

reflash a rom
