[Q] Hboot - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there,
As first I wanted to welcome everyone from Desire Z forums, as I'm moving from Leo section
I'm a bit confused:
I've followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905261
At the end there's information that I can install any ROM available, however there's also the matter of HBOOT.
Do I need to install HBOOT aswell to be able to flash custom roms?
EDIT: NVM. Post for deletion.

the guide has you download a PC10IMG.zip, that file contains the HBOOT. As long as that was installed and you have full root and s-off( to for s-off check power on by holding power on and volume up and look at the to) you can flash any ROM.

[Q] Help with Splash screen?

I was gonna post this in Development, but im a new user
Basically, I recently rooted, and s-off(ed?) my HTC Desire HD, and then proceeded to flash Android Revolution HD Rom to it.
How can I get a custom boot screen? I have an animation and stuff, but apparently I need Eng s-off? How can I get Eng s-off from my custom ROM?
Sorry for my noobishness
Cheers fo any help
Jamie
i am new to but i think i can help..actualy is very easy....
First of all...if you didn't allready did this, instal Rom Manager from the market and flash ClockWorkMod Recovery
second...from the Android Revolution page
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840040
just under the Themes are the "Extras" and in the extras sections, first ones are the "boot animations" (you actualy have some screenshoots there, and this is the link to download the first one
https://www.dropbox.com/s/qlrf5p3hw1dwr7h/bootanimation.zip )
download the "*.*.zip" files and put them on the SD card
after that ...reboobt on the recovery mod and choose from the menu...to install the specific ZIP file..flash it, reboot
and thats all

Sorry, don't know if I was very clear on my first post
I have already got bootanimations, and was looking to do a splash screen (the bit before the animation) but need a way of getting ENG S-OFF from a custom ROM.
Thanks for teyna help anyway
Then follow the instructions in my ENG S-OFF tool thread. Flash Raidroid Stockify Series 1.32.405.6 in clockworkmod before using the tool.
Figured out maybe
Ok, think I've figured what to do. It involves fastboot and adb drivers, but I cant get the drivers sorted in anyway.
If anyone knows anything let me know, but Ima keep reading into it anyway
Cheers
Jamie
You can follow radio flash guide (sticky), just replace "fastboot flash radio" with "fastboot flash splash1"
Where is that sticky? Can you link it...
Does it detail on how to install ADB drivers?
Cheers
ADB drivers come with HTC Sync, so install that. Go to sticky roll up thread in android development subforum, and you will find it.

[Q] S-OFF Problem

Hello,
I've look through many threads and also googled the problem.
So perhaps, someone can help me.
I've rooted my desire with Unrevoked3. I got SU right on my desire.
But I can not get S-OFF.
In the bootloader I see S-ON.
So i can't flash an new HBOOT image on my phone.
So what's wrong?
Can someone help?
Greetings
First have a read on http://alpharev.nl
Here is the video tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084 (step four)
Just remember when S-OFF'ing you need a stock rooted froyo ROM, no 'data2ext' ROM's or it wont work.
What do you try to get s-off? With unrevoked you cannot set your phone to s-off, you have to use alpharev:
http://alpharev.nl
Ahh...
So, i have to use a rooted stock ROM like the one from MoDaCo.
And then I ccan flash the hboot image.
Is that right?
I am new as well. But I think the safest way would be to flash your RUU and start from scratch. Here is a video showing you how to flash your RUU. After you have flashed the RUU, read this guide. Follow everything step by step without skipping.
Dont forget to:
- Tick "Install unknown sources"
- USB debugging on
I followed that guide above and rooted my HTC desire, S-OFFed it, flashed the ROM perfectly. I got no issues at all. And it was easy to accomplish.

No, you have to set your phone s-off first. Instructions are given on alpharevs page. You can also follow instructions in the linked video.
After your phone s-off, you can flash a different hboot.
But remember, it's very easy to brick your phone with flashing a hboot if you do not care/know what you are doing!!
Hey guys, I did it..
Thanks for help.
For everyone with same starting problems here a short description.
1. Make a goldcard with the GoldCardToll
2. Make a downgrad with the downgrad23 tools
3. Unroot with unrevoked3
4. S-OFF with the iso from AlphaRev
5. Install the hboot you want.
That's it..

[Q] How to root a HTC wildfire!!!!!!

hi,
i have an HTC wildfire that is running 2.2.1!!
i wanted to know how i can root my htc wildfire!! i tried using unrevoked but that did not work it kept on failing!! i done a little research on the internet some forums say that i have to downgrade my wildfire to 2.1 in order for me to root it !!!
does anyone have and easier way of rooting the HTC wildfire instead of the long process!!!!!
also is their a new version of unrevoked that can root htc wildfire with the version 2.2.1!!!!! can you post the link please if there is 1!!!!
Much help appreciated!!!!
Thank you in advance!!!!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029318
The process to root 2.2.1 is far longer than downgrading to 2.1 to rooting
- S-OFF using AlphaRev X
- Push a Custom Recovery
- Push Superuser Binary
The process is outlined in the link I have pasted. There is NO SHORTER WAY, So dont bother asking, and, this method will void your warranty.
And can you, for God's sake, not use so many exclamation marks? It annoys the hell out of someone reading it.
Guide: How to S-Off, Root and install CWM. On a Wildfire running Froyo 2.2.1
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have just successfully s-offed, rooted and installed CWM on my mates Wildfire and thought it'd be a good idea to outline how I did it.
Apharev X is still in a beta version and I take no responsibility for any damage caused, but it definitely worked for me.
Step1:
Download Apharev X. Follow the instructions exactly. Please note: Presently this only works for Hboot versions 1.01.0001 and 1.01.0002.
To find out what Hboot version your phone has do the following.
Power off the phone.
Hold down the volume down key and at the same time press the power button. This will boot you into your Hboot menu.
Once you are s-off, continue to step 2.
Step2:
Download the latest version of Gingerbreak(v1.20.apk)
Follow the installation instructions in the above post exactly.
Once done, you should be rooted, you can check this by going into your app drawer and seeing if you have the super user app. If you have, then gongrats, your phone is rooted.
Step3:
Installing ClockworkMod so you can make nand backups, flash roms etc etc.
Download and install the Root Toolbox app from the market.
Download the ClockworkMod recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.1-buzz.img file. Extract the file and make sure you rename it to recovery.img, then place it on the root of your SD card.
Open Root Toolbox and click the advanced button followed by Erase Recovery, once it's done click the Flash Recovery button.
This should have flashed the CWM recovery to your phone. You should now be able to access recovery to install roms, make nand backups etc etc.
Once you're all done, you can uninstall Gingerbreak.
A list of Wildfire roms is available in this thread over at XDA Developers.
Work Great
You made my day, it really works exactly as u describe it.
S-offed, rooted and nand-backedup my Wildfire (or like thai-peaple say: wifi, coz can't a speak it)
hboot:1.01.0001
One needs to download busybox installer to install busybox to make Root Toolbox work, but great guide.
Now i can flash CyanogenMod-7.1
This thread should be pinned

[Q] Engineering Hboot and Installing a Custom Rom?

Hello. I am going to root my phone but I am really scared to make a mistake, especially in the step 4.a in XDA Wiki 's rooting guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...sion#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD) It says that part is optional and I can choose not to install Eng Hboot. But if I skip that part and don't install the Eng Hboot, will I be able to install a custom Rom? And how can I install a Custom Rom, I really dig fot it but can't find a guide? I am a professional noob and I really need help about rooting and installing a Custom Rom

It is now recommended to install the eng hboot when you first root. Just follow the guide to the letter. If you have a G2 I would recommend flashing the DZ hboot so you can use the newer virtuous Rom's
I'll do you a quick guide to flashing roms
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Thank you so much Just out of curiosity, is the """"If md5_3 does not match md5_1 and md5_3 does not match md5_2"""" thing ever happened to anyone? The only thing that makes me scared is this sentence
I skipped the eng hboot when I rooted but I managed to flash it afterwards thanks to Nipqer.
But yes you should go with the eng hboot from the start!

Just follow the guide word by word and you should be fine. You just have to make sure the md5 of the eng hboot you just flashed on the phone matches the one you got from the guide.
If you need help rooting or you are unsure about anything head over to the g2root irc.

Like everyone said, follow it to the letter (and number) ... all the places where you can seriously do damage it states to double check your typing.
As far as the DZ HBOOT, that is only needed for newer Sense based ROMs, if you're going to stay with vanilla AOSP ROMs, then that HBOOT isn't needed.
As far as flashing ROMs, the easiest way is to download ROM Manager from the Market, follow it's prompts to install ClockworkMod Recovery and flash ROMs via ROM Manager. First and foremost, make a Nandroid backup of your current ROM (once rooted) in case anything goes wrong, you can make the backup via ROM Manager.

[Q] Still S-Off after flashing RUU in bootloader

Hi guys.
I used to run a custom ROM on my DHD. I recently upgraded to the sensation and flashed official RUU back onto my DHD incase I sold it.
It's version 2.50xx. When I boot into bootloader it still says 'S-off' in top of the screen 'PVT ace s-off etc...'
Seeing that I cant flog it, I wondered because it's S-off can I rename a recovery to PG58IMG and install a recovery, then after this just put a custom ROM on SD card and flash it through recovery as that will already be rooted?
Thank you guys, I hope someone can help a noob out =)
EDIT: As SOON as I posted this I found the answer. My apologies. Moderators please delete thread. My bad
Flash the 1.32.405.6 and the follow the "Reverting to stock" steps in the first post of this thread.
