(Q) Anyone know an easy way to get the ring tones off the MT Slide?

I have a rooted MT3G Slide that I want to get the ringtones and notification tones off of and put them on the G2. So the question is an easy way without root on the G2 (obviously) get them from the slide to the G2?
I do not know how to extract them from the Slide ROM.
Ideas?
go to the MT Slide android development thread look for any rom and open the rom .zip and the ringtones should be under: SYSTEM/MEDIA/AUDIO extract out of the folders and ull be good.. now getting them into the G2 will be a lil more difficult..
and then make a folder an the root of the sd card called ringtones and stick the ring tones in there and make another folder called notifications and stick notification ring tones in there.
Yea as long as the audio files you are copying are a supported format you should just be able to put them in the media folder like any other ringtones. I get my notification sounds from NES sound packs. My ringtones are just some mp3s. Can't imagine the stock ringtones on the MT slide were so good you need to extract them lol make some new ones for your spiffy new G2

Why? Just do like klone96 said, get the ringtones out of a rom .zip, copy them to your SD card in a folder named ringtones.
Thanks guys, i appreciate it!

Basic SD Media File Question

Hey guys,
First want to put a big thanks out there to the bright minds in the XDA community that helped me get my at&t droid rooted, works fantastic!
Secondly, my girlfriend has an un-rooted HTC Inspire HD and she downloaded the MP3 Music Downloader from the app market and made a ringtone. She saved that ringtone to her SD card. At some point, her phone battery died. When she turned it back on the ringtone didn't show up. I downloaded an sd file explorer program and found it on the SD card. How do I move that file back to her media folder so she can use it as a ring tone again? Or is there a thread that has already addressed this kind of problem? Thanks in advance!

I'm on CM7 so it could be different on your phone.
With adb (or root explorer) copy the ringtone you want to:
/system/media/audio/ringtones/
Then it will appear in the list of ringtones (after reboot)
nb: I also never use a non-rooted phone. So I don't really know the limitations.
I'll give that a shot thank you!

bwahahaha...
made my day..
really.
for you the OP,
notification and ringtone files is located on
/system/media/audio
you have to be rooted, to access /system partition
and have a proper root file manager like root explorer for example.

If it doesn't already exist, make a folder on the root of your nexus' internal storage called "ringtones" and place your mp3's in there, then reboot. They will now appear in your list when choosing a ringtone. You can do the same for notification sounds with a folder called "notifications."
Alternatively, you can browse to the file in the stock music player, long press on th song and choose "use as ringtone"

*sigh* you rooted your phone but you don't know this? Either plug it into your computer and it pops up as "internal storage" or download a file manager app like Explorer and do it right on your phone (although internal storage will now be called "sdcard")
edit: Appreciate the thanks =D

Notification sounds

The only downfall to this phone I have found is the notification and ringtone sounds. Is there any app with better notification sounds?

I think that the notification and ringtone sounds that come with this phone are horrible. You can add your own, even if you are not rooted.
Place a folder structure on your sdcard (internal or external):
/sdcard/audio/notifications/
/sdcard/audio/ringtones/
in each of these folders you can add off or mp3 files. They will appear in the ringtone and notification sound chooser on the phone. I was able to extract some of the sounds from ROMs for my Evo that I was used to in the past and add them this way.

The S3 has a unified memory pool (16GB or 32GB) that is used for the ROM, Data storage and also appears as an SDCard. They all share the flash space that your phone has.
The "internal SdCard" will appear at the path /mnt/sdcard/ and appear to you apps as if you have a card installed. You also have an SD card slot on the phone. You can add a real card there and that will appear at the path /mnt/extSdCard/. You can add the media folder to either location and the phone will find the ringtones.
I installed a 32GB card in my phone. I then configured the camera to save photos to the external card to save the internal space for the data partition.
