bwahahaha...
made my day..
really.
for you the OP,
notification and ringtone files is located on
/system/media/audio
you have to be rooted, to access /system partition
and have a proper root file manager like root explorer for example.

Hi!
Dedicate Android media scanning only to selected folders, for example "/mnt/sdcard/external_sd/Music/"... is there an app for that?
greetings
Good idea, we need such a thing. Scanning of large space is really a long lasting thing.
I looked once on the market and found something like that, but i don;t remember the name. I use the .nomedia method. In each folder you want to be avoided scan, create an empty file with the name .nomedia; that's all
Just create a file named ".nomedia" in the folders you want to skip ;-)

woops.. sorry i was not clear.. It does't work on MY Gallery app.. I must have tweaked something..
Hey guys,
First want to put a big thanks out there to the bright minds in the XDA community that helped me get my at&t droid rooted, works fantastic!
Secondly, my girlfriend has an un-rooted HTC Inspire HD and she downloaded the MP3 Music Downloader from the app market and made a ringtone. She saved that ringtone to her SD card. At some point, her phone battery died. When she turned it back on the ringtone didn't show up. I downloaded an sd file explorer program and found it on the SD card. How do I move that file back to her media folder so she can use it as a ring tone again? Or is there a thread that has already addressed this kind of problem? Thanks in advance!

I'm on CM7 so it could be different on your phone.
With adb (or root explorer) copy the ringtone you want to:
/system/media/audio/ringtones/
Then it will appear in the list of ringtones (after reboot)
nb: I also never use a non-rooted phone. So I don't really know the limitations.
I'll give that a shot thank you!

Currently running urban regeneration and quick pic. Us it possible to eery remove gallery completely? If so, is that accomplished by using a file explorer?

I removed mine completely, and have for the past few roms I flashed. I prefer to use AntTek App Manager Root for my freezing and removing needs...

I guess this question is sort of related to this so I'll ask it here. In Gallery is there any way that anyone knows of to NOT display every single folder that has an image in it? It's a little annoying going to the gallery and having folders for music album folders, certain apps, themes etc. I just want to see what in my DCIM folder and sub folders

In the folder you wish to hide, create a .nomedia file in it. That will hide the folder from appearing in gallery.
So I have root explorer, but where do I go to to delete Gallery?

I do that and it tells me,
"Gallery3D.apk cannot be deleted because the files system is read only."
I am running Random Rom Osprey, with EG22.

Copying the ringtones into the SD card folder enables the files to show up in the ringtones selection, they don't actually produce any sound. Seems like our phones don't like the .ogg file type, as my phone takes custom mp3 files just fine.

If you guys are viewing mediafire from your phone, use Google Chrome and switch to request desktop view and it will show.

Get foobar and Lame encoder - then drag the files into the foobar window and then right click on the files (select all), convert (to mp3), and walk through the prompts (you need to download LAME too - try free codecs dot com).

Just went through them and you might be dissapointed though - I've seen a lot better sounds on most custom roms...

hey
you have to extract the file on another route. Now you have to copy and move. for example if you are going to move ringtone move it to this route. /system/media/audio/ringtones. Notifications /system/media/audio/notifications. Alarms /system/media/audio/alarms. and ui is the same but do not quite understand yet that I have little in this. when finished reboot and then go to settings and you will see in the sounds. sorry I do not understand much English.

OK well I have the ringtones part done and I've copied and pasted the UI sounds in /system/media/audio/UI. Then I rebooted and didn't work. Did I do something wrong.

No, you'll still be able to play the audios from within whatsapp.
They won't appear in the music player, though. That's what you want.
