How do I make my music I have downloaded my ringtone new Gnex owner coming from the RAZR and I can't for the life of me figured it out unlocked rooted and running .89 JB from team eos

If it doesn't already exist, make a folder on the root of your nexus' internal storage called "ringtones" and place your mp3's in there, then reboot. They will now appear in your list when choosing a ringtone. You can do the same for notification sounds with a folder called "notifications."
Alternatively, you can browse to the file in the stock music player, long press on th song and choose "use as ringtone"

*sigh* you rooted your phone but you don't know this? Either plug it into your computer and it pops up as "internal storage" or download a file manager app like Explorer and do it right on your phone (although internal storage will now be called "sdcard")

Something seems to be wrong with the calculation of my internal storage. I feel like I should have more free space. Any ideas where this used space could be hiding? And how I'm using 523MB for pictures isn't possible, I have around 70 photos on this phone. They average 2MB each.

Download Es file explorer, once inside click menu "3 dots" click manager then click SD card analyst. It will show you what your apps are eating or various things being stored. Most likely my guess is a bunch if non sense thumbnails. Probably a bunch of small files.

Glad I found this. Was finally able to locate some old game files that were taking up 3 GB !!Thanks!
I have the exact same problem and this worked, but when I delete it it says the space is free, but j get out and go back and the files are all back again. Its been like this ever since I rooted and unlocked my phone.
SGH-T999 (4.1.1)
Google Play Music (Version 4.4.811H.526848)
required app: ROM Toolbox
1. Open Settings > Application manager > All > Google Play Music
2. Select "Force stop" and "Clear data"
3. Open ROM Toolbox > Root Browser
4. Create the following folder on your SD card /mnt/extSdCard/GoogleMusic/files
5. Tap and hold the folder named "files" until menu appears, and select "Create shortcut" at the bottom of the list
6. Navigate to /data/data/com.google.android.music/
7. Select "Create" and the "files" folder should be linked
8. Open "Play Music" app and sync
9. Select "Choose on device music" and it should show the available space on your sd card
10. Profit
tl;dr the directory where music is stored has changed from /data/data/com.google.android.music/cache to /data/data/com.google.android.music/files for both music and artwork, so create a symlink from your external sdcard in that location.
Great Guide, and thanks!
I'll give this a shot!

Didn't work for me
Operating on a Droid Razr HD with BatakangROM Beta 0.16. I'm thinking it's because I can access my SD from more than one way? Honestly, I don't know but I found this link from another thread I've been trying to set this up for hours in multiple ways and I would really like to get this to work so the 64gb MicroSD I bought isn't a waste.
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Looks like you are doing something wrong. I had the same error the first time but then i realized I should not click the "link" button at the bottom until I get to the actual folder i want to link to - not linking the folder to itself.
Sweet, thanks! I had been hesitant about keeping all my google music on my device but now I don't have to worry.
I've been trying out various 4.2 ROMs over the course of the past few weeks, only to return back to 4.1.2 each and every time. I always manage to get all of my files transfered back from that dreaded "0" files without any issues. That is until yesterday. After deciding that I'm still not sold on 4.2, I flashed back to 4.1.2, transfered all of my files, and then restored a backup from just before flashing. Apparently, now I can't view any of my pictures. They're in the gallery but they're all greyed-out and I cannot view them. What happened and is there any way to get them back to normal? I'm extremely disappointed as they're all quite meaningful to me... Help!

If you can access them via any file manager, then I suggest to take them to your PC and ensure that they are viewed correctly on your PC. If so then they are safe and just restore again or flash a new ROM and put them back. Hope this helps

Did you try restarting your GNex to see if they will not be grey?
Assuming you have some pictures in the DCIM folder, then try accessing them from storage/sdcard0/DCIM not /sdcard/DCIM then sending them to PC to check one more time.

Hi, I'm having a similar issue, been trying to fix it by flashing different versions and lock/unlock combinations, but all my files are screwed up, can't seem to fix it. I too get grey/black photos and videos, but what's worse is that I can't access any of the files through regular PC exploration.
I used Nexus Root Toolkit v1.6.1 to backup my stuff, but it gave me this problem :/

Honestly, this is the first time I see such pictures with this yellow triangle. I do not exactly know what this means but if these images are lost then they would not have shown at all I guess, so I will try to search for a solution on the Internet and will let you know if I found anything. For the time being, I hope some other more experienced members will be able to help you much bettER. Good Luck!
This is the first time I've encountered this issue as well. I'm at a loss... Its strange, all of the files are there but have that little yellow triangle and contain no data. My only hope is that they're still in there... somewhere.

Check the following two things:
1- If you go to the details/properties of any of the images, is there a logical size for each of them?
2- Does it show the same yellow triangle when checking the pictures via /data/media/0/ , /storage/emulated/0/ , and /sdcard/ ?
I am just trying to collect more information so hopefully other members also can help you bettER

Do you know if there's a way to extract files from an .AB (Android Backup) file for windows? I want to know if my pictures and videos are really in there; after running an SD rescan, all my files disappeared from the SD Card and I can't see them on the PC or phone, I'm starting to believe the backup I made with Nexus Root Toolkit just made some "ghost" image of the files but they are actually gone.
I flashed this rom here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36441591
And i knew it were gonna move many of my media file to another folder which i cannot find anymore i have : sdcard0/1 and emulated folder also I've been checking everywhere and i cannot find them anymore please tell me i didn't loose them forever !

What is changing to a new rom going to do for him? If his music is gone it's gone... Unless I'm missing something? Why isn't your music on your computer or somewhere else? How did you get it on your phone, lol? If it some where and you can't find it, pull everything from your storage places and put them on your PC and search both files with in your computer search index and see if you can find them... If they are there, then create a folder named /music and you will good to go. If they aren't there then get new music or however you got them there in the first place.

I would start putting the music somehwere other then only on phone storage, just in case. I've accidentally wiped internal storage once, and I've had External sdcards go bad or just randomly out of no where lose all data in it. make a dropbox and do TiBu once a week and move them there your self with some type of file manager if you don't wanna pay the money for Titanium Backup pro. I also bet all your stuff is there you are just looking in the wrong places. What file manager are you using to look for your "lost stuff"?

I'm having trouble with MTP using the latest version of Paranoid Android, it's SO slow, I just copied a 5MB file to the phone and the transfer lasted like 15 seconds, also, I really don't like that "media" layer thats added, I need to make some space in my internal storage/SDCARD and I can't even use a program to calculate the folder sizes, I want direct access to it, just that, I don't understand why it's not available in AOSP.
Well, I searched and someone said "hey, mount the storage/sd with recovery", ok, here we go. And nope, last TWRP doesn't work for some reason. OK, lets go back to CMW. And nope, again, can't mount them, it just won't work, nothing happens when I check the mount button...
Also I read that using the "Fix permissions" fix may solve it, well, it doesn't, tried that with both recoveries.
So, is there any way to enable USB Mass Storage Mode? Also, why is MTP SO DAMN SLOW? I've searched and I'm not the only one thats having this problem it seems.
Thanks.
