In my opinion I am using Damage Control 3.5 Final... but you have to fully rooted (have unlocked your NAND) for this ROM to install. So if you used toast's method to ROOT you should be fine. I have excellent battery life and havent had any problems witht this ROM. Wifi tether works (I used it yesterday to jailbreak an iPad at bestbuy).
I'm defiantly full nand unlocked.does that rom have sense installed? I use launcher pro. Also hows your ram on that one? On fresh typically have about 175-200 free.

Yes it does have Sense.. .and Internal Phone storeage is about 300MB before I installed all of my apps...
I use CyanogenMod, the nightly builds (it's gotten a lot faster than RC1 since a few days ago).
Personally there are some aspects of Sense I miss... Mostly the text select for copy/paste, since vanilla Android's implementation sucks, but overall I prefer CyanogenMod more, hands-down. Also, I trend to average around 180-200MB free RAM.
As far as I know, if you don't want any trace of Sense on your phone, CyanogenMod is your only real choice, since it is built from the ground up on Android's sourcecode.
But with any other ROM, Sense can be disabled.
The two I'd recommend would be CyanogenMod or Baked Snacks. I haven't tried Damaged Goods though... I'll have to try it out.
Oh, and just so you know, CyanogenMod currently doesn't have 4G, if that matters to you.

for DC 3.5 you can very easily Ban sense in DCONFIG if you dont want it. I ban all sprint apps, sense, and launcher in the config so that all i am left with is launcher pro.
This lets me have my 4g, hdmi, fm radio. Still lets me have 2.2 and gets rid of sense. plus DC is an amazing rom anyway.
CM7 doesn't look like it's finished enough to attempt. Can't seem to find any ACS builds.
Why ask this? Everyone will just tell you the ROM they are using. ALL ROMs are good. Just read through the top threads in development and pick one.

Here are the top six roms in MY opinion that are the best...
1.)StarskyROM (The one nobody talks about, but offers the BEST performance, in exchange for a couple bugs, that absolutely relate nothing to user-experience-quality. Pretty Stock, balls to the wall speed, not bad battery)
2.) LegendaryRom
3.)ACS ICS (Dont think its being updated anymore, Marcusant created MarcusantRom, listed below, which is basically the same thing as ACS ICS)
4.)SleeperRom (Amazing battery life)
5.)MarcusantRom (Incredibly Stable, Fast, Amazing Looks)
6.).....no need to list beyond this point, its all a matter of personal preference.....

I have not had very good luck with the latest Samurai kernels. I get horrendous lag. I believe this was even acknowledged by the developer, unless im mistaken and a new release has become available recently.
I had some issues as well, but last night 3.3.0 in 3 flavors came out.
So far I am very pleased, other seem to be as well.

Kenny is right. To paraphrase- "the phone chooses the ROM"
(I've tried them all except Random's, and they're all great. Marcusant's was probably my fave. On CleanGB now with Travis' new Minimalistic Black theme and loving it. Try new Shadow Kernel, its the bomb)

What kind of quadrant score do you get with the shadow kernel on stock settings? I'm running starskrom, flashed the shadow kernel, and now I'm getting 250 less of a score on quadrant. I've gerard some people saying they are getting 3000 or more. That not possible without overclocking right?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
That is correct. You need to OC to get that score. Quadrant is crap and can be easily spoofed. It does just some number crunching and a few video routines. The best judge of performance is how it works and feels for you. If you are hung up on whose benchmark is bigger, stick to smartbench 2010.

Kenny is right- to paraphrase, "quadrant size doesn't matter".
Or whatever. I just judge by eye- am I lagging? Sticking? Randomly rebooting? My current setup has been flawless. But I am a charter member of "Flashaholics Anonymous" and CK23 is getting ready to drop Serenity 1.1.1, so I have a feeling a Nand backup and new flash is coming at me.

I am running acs ics 5.5with the new acs theme. it is pretty flawless. but with that said, for some reason my phone prefers marcusant's rom over the rest. I have tried just about them all and might even try urban precision again now that the mms bugs are supposed to be worked out
Just some advice... You definitely want to be running marcusant revival ROM with the new samurai assassination kernel. You will not be disappointed, trust me. I am getting the best performance I have ever seen possible on the device plus 30 hour of battery life.

I just got mine and was wondering is it worth rooting becausr stock is already fast and stable
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
It's always worth rooting.
Right now, the performance increase isn't the biggest reason, because this phone can handle anything we through at it with ease.
The root_only features, however, definitely are.
Backups, tethering, painless restores, themes, ad hoc wifi, and all the other goodies that custom Roms provide really make a big difference.

You really should check out the juggernaut rom and also faux123 kernal. I can't express how much faster the sg2 runs and no stuttering or lag. The phone also has much better battery life it's really amazing. Also no spying carrier iq, no bloatware etc. you can free wifi tether. You can over clock or under clock. My phone has never worked so good.
Definitely recommend the following:
Load cwm recovery
Install latest juggernaut rom 4.1
Install latest faux123 kernal
Not required but also install latest modem kl1
If you do then install swype beta keyboard
I use go launcher highly recommended.

DOOOOOOOOOO it!!!! You'll love your phone twice as much. There are some awesome themes and roms. You can make it even smoother than it is. Go to dev section after and try gingersnap with either kernel. Smooth as butter

main reason u should root and install a custom rom is BATTERY LIFE! lol u more than double your battery life, get all the bloat out of your phone, CIQ etc, plus you do get a performance increase, and its more stable than stock.. hands down best thing you could ever do to your phone.
Ok...obvious question...which one of the two should I use? Anyone done a side by side comparison of mods or features? I know one is deod and the other can use either. What else ???? Thanks

I had trouble with the earlier update scripts on Sleeper. It seems 2.04 has gotten all the bugs out. You can't beat CleanGB for convering to MTD and Toad seems to be on top of his game. I have not tried them on BML but I am sure they are comparable. The advantage that Sleeper offers is 2 versions, slim and full. Both seem very fast at stock frequencies. Since I restore advanced data from nandroid my setups always look the same and can compare performance. Sorry if this wasn't much help.

It's not for everyone. It is non-Touchwiz. That is probably the most important thing to remember so things will be different. I made a thread in General on both CM7 and CM9 where people can post tips and tricks to ease the experience of jumping over. I ran CM7 for awhile up to nightly 28. It is solid. CM9 as stated is in Alpha 3 now. It is pretty good for a taste of ICS but not for everyone.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
I think the OP is looking for a production build, so a nightly build version would not be ideal. CleanGB would be my recommendation. Just less overhead and room for errors.
side by side comp
Interesting thing, obvious too for most...
Each of the Devs use each other stuff(s) and they give credit for the mods each have used in the final rom...
As a side by side, I can see pros and cons of the two, I have used both and seem to lean towards Sleeper...not sure exactly why. but I have nandrroids of both ready to go.
Just cant seem to want to try the CM builds, would love to see what the Viper Devs could come up with in EL30 though.

I don't know if anyone is picking up on the trends here. But you will notice people basically stating they either use or in some way shape or form revert back to gb to get things done or perform functions that should be trivial. With that in mind it becomes clearer and clearer that samsungs implementation (not Google) of ics is seriously flawed. I can only pray that jb doesn't turn out like ics.

Only reason still on GB is not sure how to pop up to ICS or Jelly a little confused and looking for a good how to upgrade breakdown tutorial.
I would've stayed on blazer or any gingerbread if YouTube and Songza were usable, no 4G in my area and those apps would just keep loading on 3g. I honestly don't see any difference in battery life with gingerbread and the newer ICS roms, only slight speed difference.

I'm running blazer 4.1 because the GB data speeds/ping are better than ICS/JB. I can't stand the touchwiz super-scroll and AOSP ICS/JB still has the 4G bug. Once AOSP fixes the 4G bug I will update. I have never had battery problems on any Rom.
