[Q] 4G keeps changing IP addresses - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have had several instances where I get dropped because my IP changed. I thought it could be a signal problem so used open signal maps to find my tower but also noticed that there may be a more powerful antenna behind the one that I normally use. This signal took over until I made it home.
So I am thinking that if I could keep only 1 tower or install a proxy that I might be able to fix this problem. I still need more testing and/or other ideas to make this testing more conclusive. I can say that everytime I have a problem the network connection and speeds look good.
Anybody else or ideas?

Why does my 3g keep dropping out?

I am in a stationary place tethering but my 3g connections keeps dropping out, what is the deal?
It could just be a bad signal. Try updating your PRL from the software settings under about phone. Also, if it continues in that same location you may want to call sprint to notify them that you have a weak signal and it keeps dropping data. They don't know there is problem until you speak up.
Hopefully that's the extent of the issue and not something more. You may also want to try a different rom if you continue to experience problems.

[Q] Blocking connecting to specific Cell Tower?

Is it possible to block a connection to a specific cell tower?
For the past few months I've had trouble with my 3G data connection when I'm connected to a specific cell tower in the area where I work. I've called T-Mobile countless times and they keep assuring me the issue has been identified and they are "hard at work to resolve the problem". Well I'm tired of waiting as its been a problem for months now.
I've search the market for an app that would allow me to disable connections to specific towers but none seem to exist. Would it even be possible to develop an app that could do this?
I've been able to narrow the issue down to a specific Cell Tower ID using some of the tower data apps available. If I switch my G2 over to only use 2G data networks I don't have any issues, but then my connection is unreasonable slow obviously. There are two 3G towers my phone connects to while I'm at work, and the other one works fine, so if I could lock my phone to stay connected to THAT tower it would be great.
Lock onto cell tower
You ever figure out how to do this? Looking into this myself for the E4gT forum with no luck.

4G Constant Scan - connect/disconnect

I have tried to search but it doesn't like to include 4G (to short to be included) in the search box so forgive me if I wasn't bright enough to find this somewhere else.
My EVO will scan for 4G service. It then says connecting to Sprint, then flashes disconnected and scans again only to say connecting to sprint. Rinse and Repeat this process over and over. I have had this issue both on clean installs of fresh rom and currently on Koni's elite series rom. Anyone have this issue as well/and or know of a solution.
I do have a 4G MAC address so I would think that I should be able to connect.
Thanks in advance for the help

Well for one are you in a strong 4G coverage area?
Try shutting off your phone, pull the battery for a minute or two and restart your phone. (If you call Sprint and tell them this issue - this step will be the first one they tell you to execute)
Also you can try updating your profile and PRL, When I am having weak signals under 4G/3G - I update my profile & PRL and it always seems to fix the signal issue...
hope this helps

this happens to me when trying to connect to a 4g signal from my apartment. it will say "scanning... connecting... obtaining IP address/disconnected/scanning...connecting..." (sometimes the "obtaining ip address" does not appear) yet if i try to connect in other parts of town it connects fine. wimax sucks as far as connectivity, so until more towers appear and the signal is better there's probably no way to fix your issue. ive tried every inch of my house, and of course by the windows is slightly better. if you can manage to get a "poor" or "fair" 4g connection you'll probably end up with slower speeds than 3g anyway. it's really misleading because the software indicates the phone is trying to connect even though the signal isn't good enough to maintain a connection. clear and sprint coverage maps indicate my address and neighborhood as "best" 4g coverage too, so i have little hope of this ever improving. there is a thread for updating your ##data# values to get the phone to connect sooner and stay connected longer which i think probably helps, but not enough for me (nothing you do on your end can improve the tower signal) and even if it did, like i said you're connecting at "poor" or "fair" signal and your data speeds will often remain slower than 3g.

I am good coverage areas, my work where I am now can get it in buildings and comically my home is exactly on the line of in-home/on-street. Tried pulling the battery to same results, I think I have current PRL 60675 PRI 1.90_003. Not sure what you mean for the profile though.
Thanks for the tips.
I can connect to 4g with a poor/fair signal now, and heres how I did it if anyone cares:
flashed joeykrim's rooted stock sprint rom (5.1 I think)
updated prl through settings menu
updated profile through settings menu
use msl reader app from market to get msl code
go to dialer and type (NOT call) ##DATA#
enter MSL, go to edit mode, tap the first out of the 5 or so menu items
press menu, choose "restore" (phone will reboot or power off)
turn phone back on and enable 4g with phone on window ledge.
somewhere along the line (flashing many many different roms and wiping a lot, trying various kernels and tweaks) I had gotten stuck in the seemingly irreversible 4g/wimax connection/disconnection loop. Now I can at least connect!

Wifi connections are driving me crazy

I've been suffering through bad wifi connections for so long I don't know if I can stand it anymore. I have my own wifi router and 2 neighbors' all set up on my phone and I spend time in all 3 houses. My phone is pretty much NEVER connected to the right access point and I can't use internet without backing out of what I'm doing and changing connections manually. There has to be a better way.
When I get home and pull in to the garage, it connects to my neighbor's router, deezmms. When I walk in to the house, it stays connected, 1 bar, but I can't do anything until I connect to my own. If I stay in the garage, it will eventually connect to the other neighbor, sparkx, again with 1 bar and a terrible connection to the internet. After connecting to my own, if I go to either neighbors I'm still stuck on my wifi, 1 bar, no internet. And it will NEVER connect to another until I'm COMPLETELY out of range of the the first.
I tried a few apps that didn't do anything at all. I've tried different settings in the advanced wifi settings that didn't help and in some cases gave me bigger problems. I had Tasker set up to turn my wifi off when I was in the car, which got me in to the house and connected to my own wifi in at least that one circumstance but raised a bunch of other headaches (losing connection to Gopro when I start the car at races, among others).
What can I do? I'm at my wits' end here.

You could set up Tasker to connect to different wifi networks according to your location, but i guess the GPS battery drainage would become a problem then. And the locations are probably too close for cellular triangulation to work properly.
An easy solution that might work: Set the wifi networks to the same wifi channel. The interference should ensure that they cancel each other out and don't creep into the next house etc. Also make sure the routers are physically so far away from each other as possible.
Just saw this app which might help. I don't have any experience with it though: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.goramart.wifijumper&hl=da

I'll try that app.. the houses are all close enough together that GPS probably isn't going to take care of it. I might play with the channels but that sounds like it might end up causing headaches, too.
Also, I did move and upgrade my router and added some big, higher gain antennas. I really think I should be getting better range out of it than I am, but I don't know what else to try.

this seems more like a problem with the placement of your wifi router? i would check what your signals look like connected to your router througout the house. i would totally remove your neighbor's connections from your saved list so theres really no chance of connecting to their network. realistically your in house wifi should be the strongest signal lols..?

Our yards are pretty big and I spend a lot of time in all of them. I know my wifi is never going to reach to my neighbors fire pit. When I pull in to the garage their signal is stronger, and then I walk in to my house were obviously mine is stronger, but I'm stuck on the neighbors' unless I manually mess with it.
I have no idea how that Wifi Jumper app is supposed to work but it didn't do anything to help my situation. :\

I had same problem but I reset the phone and when it promoted me about Wi-Fi optimization upon setup again I unchecked the box... I couldn't find this in the settings though. The only way was to reset

HTC10 wireless issues

Hi folks,
Had a search in here and the rest if the internet (maybe not all of it...) but struggling to find anything to match my problem.
It rears its head in a couple of ways. First off, I'm getting a lot of what appear to be DNS issues on 4G data (DNS server address cannot be found). Sometimes toggling data or airplane mode will fix it. Works fine on Wi-Fi, but could be when it's first switched from Wi-Fi to mobile data.
Second one... Cell connection and GPS connections will drop (line through signal strength bars, sat Nav app showing no GPS) but will reconnect after half a minute or so.
Can't tell if the two issues are related as they both appear to be quite random. Any help would be greatly appreciated and stop me littering the street with a phone being thrown out of the window.
More info: I can search from the search bar and get results, but clicking on a link and opening the browser or chrome results in the DNS errors. Also, can't pin it down to chrome, as similar things happen in Relay (Reddit browser).
I'm having the same problem, were you able to resolve it? Not sure if its a problem with the phone or network but know someone else who's having the same thing (EE UK network).
I was having the issue last week on EE UK. It seemed to be dependent on area too. Its resolved now for me
