[LIST CLOSED (for now)] Group XTC Clip buy? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

OK, in the spirit of what ACD168 started, would anyone be interested in going in on an XTC clip? I would have rather waited for Alpharev, but I'm going over seas in a few weeks and want to unlock the SIM on my company DINC2 so I can call the wife and kids with my own card which only the XTC clip can do.
So...I'm going to buy an XTC clip regardless, but I figure if a bunch of folks want in it can benefit more than one person.
I'll front the money on a regular XTC clip (not pay as you go) - I'm looking for 10 people (makes math easy after a rockin 4th of July party weekend), but I would take whatever number of people want in.
With the current Euro exchange rate it would be about $14 each which is cheaper than the Pay as you Go credit.
And as ACD168 alluded to - karma is a *****; it will mess with you if you mess with it. This is an honor system!
What do you all think?
Mods, if you feel like this post is out of line just delete it.
Thanks, Matt.

Ok - 1 down. Any more takers?

sent from my Inc 2 using xda premium app

I"m possibly interested, do you just ship it to the next person after you use it?

From what I understand its pretty easy windows software...kind of like Unrevoked 1-click root if you had an Inc1.
The way I see it geography isn't an issue...we'll just ship it to each other which shouldn't be very expensive.

I think I'm in, $14 isn't too bad at all. I'll have to look up what exactly it does.
If it's as easy as unrevoked on the inc1, it can't get any easier.
Once you run this, it's S-OFF and rooted?

I'd be down.

I can send it out from my work after I use it with Fed Ex Over Night for free. So I know geography (as long as in ConUS) is not an issue from me to next person.

Once you run this your phone is S-Off, and completely SIM unlocked. It doesn't install the su apk or any custom hboot, recovery, etc. However this has already been put together by jcase, so you would just flash a new recovery/hboot and your off an running and ready to install a new ROM.
looks like there are 4 interested so far. Like I said I already ordered the clip so as soon as I get it i'll just send it out to cadon69 who can send it to Istarr, etc.
Paypal for the $14...but I'll get that info out later after there is enough interest

just my luck.. hours after i purchase a pay as you go from ebay, these threads come up..

I'm interested. Sign me up and let me know how we'll get you the $14 and how we go about tracking the usage and sending from one person to the next.

XTC Clip Shipping/Sharing

I have a feeling that a lot of people will be receiving XTC clips soon. Would any of you be feeling so kind as to share them with other XDA members? Personally I would be willing to pay the shipping both ways (I'm in San Diego), for my credit if it's a pay as you go model, and whatever reasonable fee on top of that you feel like charging. This might be a good way to make back some of the money you sank on the clip, and for me it's probably faster than waiting for a clip to get here from Europe or China.
Please reply here or PM me if interested
i'd be willing to. just have to wait for it to get here, hopefully next week.
Cool, thanks, I'll probably take you up on that unless someone offers one up sooner than that. PM me when you get it to sort out payment details.
Not trying to mooch or anything... But I'd be willing to pay as well if anybody's up for it.
Looks like this thread wont be needed anymore.. and of course my purchase is totally useless. I didn't even get it yet. Just my luck.

Help selling on ebay!

I'm debating putting my nexus up for sale on ebay and could use some advice...
What should I start off the bidding at? will be selling it with standard and extended battery.
Should I leave it rooted or return to stock?
Any idea roughly what I may end up getting for it?
Should I bother taking pics of the phone or just use a standard pic of the phone?
Will I have any problems trying to sell the phone with no history of selling items?
99p starting bid, it's free. Keep it rooted, put a 1.4 GHz kernel in it title it 'Galaxy Nexus, Rooted, overclocked 1.4 GHz with custom recovery'.
People will go mental for it. I've just sold my Desire for £150 because it's overclocked to 1.2 GHz.
Forgot to mention it is the verizon phone... Do I list it as Verizon or CDMA?
I don't know much about Verizon and CDMA, but I suppose if it's important you should mention it. I don't know how you transfer numbers with a CDMA phone.
Don't forget to mention you can relock the bootloader and easily flash a stock ROM if someone is worried about the warranty.

I'd say you should list it as "Verizon (CDMA/LTE)". The Verizon part is important as the at least the CDMA part of it will be locked to Verizon

I usually start bids off at 99 cents. As already mentioned, you can list it as rooted, but offer to return to factory state if the buyer requests. You should get close to what you paid if the phone is in mint condition. Always take pictures so the buyer knows exactly what they're getting (I take 3-4, showing the condition of the phone and accessories included). You won't have problems selling, every seller had 0 feedback at one point. Good luck

I've got a mint Nexus and a pro DSLR with a decent macro lens, I can take 3-4 nice close ups of you like? A good few pictures always helps you get a good price.
Hhhhmm so I'm not looking at getting much more than the $300 it costs with contract?

i agree 500- 600 easy and if you write your username on a pice of paper and photograph the phone on top of the paper, that helps persuade users that you are actually in possession of said product.
what to be careful of is users paying for it with zero feedback using a stolen CC

If it comes to that do I have the option not to sell to that person without a penalty?
Will it make a difference money wise if I list the phone as rooted or stock?
Just sell it rooted, you'll get more for it. Some folk haven't a clue about how to root a phone and will pay a premium for it. Trust me, I sell all my phones overclocked and rooted and I always do well.
Wow, very interesting, I thought selling rooted wouldnt be a good idea cause people may think they lost their warranty without a way back.
Like I said in post #4 just explain how easy it is to relock and flash the stock ROM using mskip's rooting method. Just word it intelligibly and people will be all over it.
Selling previous phones are always the way I get new ones.
I pretty much agree with above. List at least three different pictures (one of the front, back and a good angle showing everything you're listing such as the box and cables). Mention in the listing that they should contact you with any questions or if they want to see more pictures. Also make sure to mention something along the lines of "Anyone with zero feedback/International bidders email me first before bidding or I may remove your bid." in bold. This way those who are in those situations but serious about the item will contact you first. Then you just have to keep track of who bids. Removing a bid once usually keeps a joker from bidding again. And I wouldn't worry about price and what removing a bid might do. Right now this is rated as the best android phone out there (by reviewers, anyways). It'll still sell for $500 -$600 no matter what

Bootloader unlock?

So, since Sonic has this javacard that is able to get s-off for us on the HTC One, is anyone still looking at getting bootloader unlock / root / s-off in any other fashion? Or has this line of thinking been dropped all together? As in devs thinking it's not possible? Just curious as I would really like to get it done, but can't, because of my job, be without my phone. If it all comes to that, I will figure a way to get my phone to him. I have not pledged anything as of yet as I was waiting to find out what was going to happen.

a dev just got enough donations to get the htc one and is going to work on a software exploit. Apparently the new hboot (1.54?) is so far locked down across carriers/ countries so hopefully, there will be plenty of devs working on this in the future.
Though I probably will get impatient and mail mine off in a week...
I personally don't think anyone would start working on this until the 4.3 update is out. With a new update, there could be a new hboot and different exploits.
I am a pretty new dev but I have not abandoned finding an exploit. Be patient, we will find one eventually.
I was just concerned that it had kinda fallen to the wayside since there is currently another way to get s-off. I hadn't seen anything in the last few days about finding a software exploit and it got me thinking about it. I never made a pledge in that thread due to that line of thinking. Figured if someone gets us root / unlocked I would send to them directly.

This is true, but the bounty still re-mains for whomever cracks the code.
If you pledged and then did S-OFF with Sonic, your pledge still counts, and I feel most members will honor their word.
So one would hope anyway.
Just because none is posting about their progress doesn't mean it isn't being attended to. There is a lot of talent poking at it. It'll happen.

very true, take a look at older devices for example, some took up to 6 months..
you can send the phone to sonic or play the waiting game.
I am sending to Sonic personally. Got a nice box with some good bubble wrap and feel comfortable enough that it will hopefully not get lost and or stolen.
no risk no reward.

I think it will be, I am a bit weary sending my $600 phone without insurance from NY to CO, but still worth it for me.
(does the $15 include the $600 insurance for the phone when he ships it back? or if it's lost or stolen on way back to you, what happens?)
I was hoping I could get my phone out today, but it looks like business calls again and can't be without it.
I am HTC Dev unlocked so I am not in NEED necessarily of S-OFF, just would like to have it to poke around.
I am going to lay low let those who really need it, the ones who got stuck not being able to do HTC Dev, then if credits are still there I will send it out. No need for me to be greedy and use a credit when it's not needed, yet anyway, I really want S-OFF, but I think others deserve it first since I am already rooted.

[Q] Sunshine S-OFF Question

So I rooted my HTC One (M8) using the all in one toolkit, which just roots the stock phone using the HTCDev bootloader unlocker thing (signing in to HTCDev, getting your phones code, all that good stuff). I tried firewater, and I couldn't obtain S-OFF using that. So, I downloaded Sunshine onto my phone and it got to the screen where it tells me to pay (by the way, I feel $25 is ridiculous considering all of this for older devices was free), does this mean that it's compatible with my root? I see a lot of people do this with Insert Coin installed and stuff, but I don't want to flash something and have to re-download all of my apps and everything again. So, my question is, can you use Sunshine with a stock-rooted M8 with the bootloader unlocked via HTCDev?
Yes you need a near as possible stock Rom with root to do that...it will work 100% fine..

"near stock"? That's what I'm confused on. I have stock ROM, just rooted.

Can I use Sunshine with this?
Stock is perfect then, about as near to stock as it can be ?
If it prompts you for payment, that means it's compatible with your phone & ROM. I asked this in their irc.

Funny how you feel its ridiculous to have to "pay" for something the dev worked on for hours and hours, on his own time, but you think its just fine and dandy to ask for support here for your question, for "free"..
Its people like you that make the dev's not want to share things they come up with for THEMSELVES with the rest of us..
And learn how to search, since the answer to your question has been posted many times, and you only want "free" service...

This is my 4th Android phone, and its also the fourth phone I've ever rooted. But its the first I've ever had to pay something for. There's all kinds of developers and people who make stuff for this, from unlocking bootloader to rooting. Hell, HTC themselves don't make you pay to do what's necessary to do ANY of this. This is the first developer I've seem to make you pay for one of the many little things rooting your phone requires. They're making you pay a hefty amount for one thing. Even ten dollars would've made more sense. Maybe I'm being cheap and ignorant, but like I stated first, after many years of many developers and phones able to be rooted (I'll even throw in how every jailbreak program for apple products), this is the first one I've seen to make you pay. And $25 at that.
Get used to it; is a different world now a days..
Considering all of your 8 posts have been nothing but you asking for free help for your problems, I wouldn't complain about paying for ANYTHING here on XDA until you become a contributor and not just a "taker"..

I semi agree with this post except. I don't expect developers to just give out there hard work. Yes that has been the trend for the past few years but I also see where the developer is coming from. Do I think $25 is a bit much? Yes but him/her asking for a little return for something the average Joe can't do and the benefits from it outweigh the cost.

The 25$ are not that much if you think about what he/they had to do...they used phones and tools where they had to pay too...so instead of giving it out for free and even losing that much money they are taking a bit from the community so they can improve the tool more and more to get s-off...soon even m7 will be possible to s-off...I think this week or so...they are really working hard on it as it is going to be harder to unlock the phone so that we can unbrand etc...so I think the 25$ are really worth it...

$25 or $600 developer edition? $25 = more than fair!
Not many people are prepared to pay for $25 for s-off. The developer would get more money if he was selling it for about $10 as more people would be prepared to buy it.
In the end it's really a matter of choice and decisions. The developer decided to sell for $XX
You have a choice. Either pay the $XX or stay as is. If you really need s-off then you must also be willing to pay for it.
Simple as that.

The idea that vendors can always "make it up on volume" is a fallacy.
Good vendors experiment with price to try and see where income is maximised. I've done that with my Android apps.
Semi-regularly I hear from people who say "make it up on volume". I'm the one who's done the testing and analysed the results. I'm the one who is "living the reality", day in and day out. They just have a vague idea about price, based on their own speculation, and perhaps their own self interest in seeing a lower price.

I understand where you coming from. Every successful product needs to reach the break even point. After that you can experiment with the price. Such as do a discount on a certain week or a day.
So I have a silly question, First I have only ever rooted 1 phone prior to this, S3, Now I have my htc one m8, Used weaksauce, worked for me to enable power saving mode, now my phone is no longer rooted, So the question is will sunshine, root, my phone and turn the S-OFF? Thanks
I agree that $25 is steep. I'd consider $5 to $10 but even then I'm like "I don't know" because I have tried a lot of this type of crap and bricked devices. I bricked 3 M7 phones in the past trying to do this... I was unsuccessful so it's money out of my pocket and have nothing to offer but I recently got laid off and have an HTC One (M7) from T-Mobile with a bad esn I'm trying to sell but need to port it to AT&T first because I can't get any useful amount without this. Firewater doesn't work and I can't afford $25. This sucks for me and since I'm desperately trying to get this done (gotta pay rent) I'm trying to work on my own exploit but am scared I'm going to brick this device too. I understand trying to be rewarded for This amazing creation but it sucks for those of us that can't pay that $25...

Then don't s-off and/or wait until you have the $$$ to pay for it. Nobody is forcing you to, there is no requirement, so we don't OWE the developer anything unless we decide to use their product which they have spent time working on. Judging by your previous history I would just leave as is and not tinker anymore, as this type of modification for any device comes with the risk of bricking your device if you're not careful/dont know what you're doing.
I'm no genius but food, rent, etc all come before modifying my phone for pleasure/convenience.

Well thanks captain obvious but as my post says... It isn't for enjoyment or pleasure. I need to sell the phone with a bad esn so I'm trying to flash it to AT&T so I get a reasonable amount. I need s-Off for that. I agree that I probably shouldn't tinker with my device anymore but the thought of not keeping a place for my daughters to live kills me. I'm not asking the developers to change anything. I just thought I'd chime in with my thoughts on it. I did post a comment on another thread in frustration yesterday that was uncalled for but I'm just trying to get by until I can get a new job.

[Q] S-OFF Options, or lack of?

Just wondering if the ONLY S-OFF at the minute is sunshine for £25? I have absolutely nothing against the developers but i think the price is a tad steep, i paid less for my XTC Clip back in the day and that had unlimited unlocks.
Apologies if this has been discussed already and i have done the noob thing of starting another thread!
Although it's not the only method at the moment it's by far the cheapest one. I think these three quotes are the most important ones that answer your question.

Thansk for your answer, i have already seen all the posts regarding sunshine which is why i asked about another, If they are the cheapest then they are the only way.
I also didnt say i wanted it free just that 25 seems a little high for ME, it may not be the majority of users but i have mine on a contract that i pay for monthly as i dont have enough to buy the M9 outright...
Its $25 not £25.
Its around £17 and for that its not to bad considering the safety features it has and the ease of use, save a pound a day and in just over two weeks you'll have it
The price maybe a bit steep but trust its worth it, S-OFF has never been easier just run the app wait a few min and you're done, no code, no fastboot nothing.
Thanks for the replies. having never used sunshine i didnt know it would be that easy. Presumed there would still be pain in the ass risks to take! ill put my £1 a day back for a fortnight then ;P
