Hi
I'm pretty sure this isnt a new thing but just wanted to check with other users.
Google Goggles (cant enable search history) ive read on other forums that this seems to be a universal bug on the s2, the spinner just seems to go around and around till i quit out of app....but the stranger problem is that when i scan an object etc the little scanning bar only goes about a centimeter across the screen befor saying "no match found" and just displaying a bunch of vaguely similar coloured stuff in the images at the bottom.....odd
the other issues with Google apps ive found are
(these could be due to a faulty sensor on my device tho)
Google Maps (street view, compas mode) & Google Sky maps
on both of these apps i can spin thro about 180 degrees fine (everything as it should be) but once i go past a certain point ie: halfway through a 360 rotation, the second half becomes all crazy and jumps all about the place ie: back to the start point of the 360 turn......you know what i mean ?!?
anyway, these are not things i use every day but am curious as to if anyone else has issues with these apps
cheers
EDIT: just found some youtube vids showing the nexus S with same issues,
hopefully when CM is released it may sort the issue

So, this one I put in General section on purpose, rather than the Troubleshooting and Q&A section, cause main purpose is to disguise about the bugs and things that are simply wrong.... Mainly probably Android issues rather than HTC, but their team has big impact on those...
I'm gonna start by the fact that I got the M8 just a couple days ago, and it's an upgrade from my previous M7 (Stock 4.3, TWRP Unlocked & rooted).
The first thing that I did after turning it on was, Wifi -> Software updates -> and got 3 OTAs in a row, to get me to 5.0.1... After that, I started to "migrate" the phone; Loging in G-acc, downloading apps from PlayStore.. and bump, here's the issue number 1:
- PlayStore keeps saying "Connection lost. Retry" or giving an error 923 on downloading apps, like every few minutes or so. This only happens when using 3G or 4G connection. Writing reviews is impossible, cause at the time I actually write something, and press Apply, the message is lost, and "Try again" notification appears instead... Never happened before on M7, so I checked with my carrier and we've done all the testing - It's for sure something with the phone, not the signal. carrier or tower-switching....
Next thing was, youtube has the same issues: Every few minutes (even less), a "Retry" button appears, and has to be pressed 2 or 3 times to load search results, videos, etc... Never breaks the connection during video play though. But, still, playing playlist is impossible, due to error being in between every video change...
Issue number 3: Gallery keeps getting everything that's on the phone. This includes Messenger (Facebook) app's emoticons, which are shown one-by-one in it's own albums, resulting in having over hundred albums in a gallery, - I know this can be hidden, but hiding over 100 folders is not that easy either...). I checked data on my M7 - same folders, same files of messenger, but Gallery never showed them at all.
It also shows all of the pictures I've ever shared with a particular person, since Messenger downloads those pictures in a folder... What have they done with the Gallery app?!? Is there anyway to downgrade to some older version...?
Issue number 4: Cloud gallery notification pops-up every single time the Gallery is opened. Even though I hit "No thanks" button, the next time the app is opened, notification saying "Gallery just got better with cloud service" pops-up. Any way of disabling this notification?!??? I guess that mentioning the uselessness of Zoe app due to not having Save button is irrelevant, right...? This Cloud things seems to mess up the heads of the HTC Dev team, ha?
Issue number 5: Power saver notification can't be hidden from the Lock screen; My life with M7 was 90% of the time with "Power saver" option turned on (All except for the data cut-off option selected). I always had the notification in the upper bar of the screen, but never on the Lock screen itself, in the middle of the screen. Now, on M8 this is visible. Along with the big "X" symbol that turns it off. I swear I've gone through all of the settings, but nowhere found any option to hide it.
Issue number 6: Google drive downloads low-res videos instead of originals! So, I keep a lot of my FullHD ([email protected]) of the GoPro on my Drive. Now, when I wanted to see those videos on my phone, I hit the Download button, and look what I got: 720p (1280x720) videos @ 25fps. Converted MP4 files. Without any notification, any option set, nothing... And I've downloaded the same files on M7 non-converted, so that I could edit them and upload them on social networks etc... Why is this the case, and why is this behaviour nowhere even documented? At least I haven't found it...?
Resolved issues:
- SD Card write error; It's a pain in the ass what they did. More than that, its the pain in the ass that in 5.0.1. where this was repaired (via Documents app approval), the app crashed when selecting SD card -> due to the card not having any name set (after format). It would be nice if this was documented somewhere too...
- Whole device freezes for around 10 secs whenever message is sent in Facebook Messenger app: This is resolved by turning off "In-App sounds" option in the app's settings. Still have no idea why this would happen, and why only on M8, (Nexus 5 and 6 don't have these issues running same system and app version...), so can't say who to blame, but at least it can be bypassed...
Facts (rather than issues): About M8 itself... Well, the camera is far from what they promised, and the battery is nowhere near the capacity they claim it to be. While the screen is pretty much the same as it was on the M7, I'm really starting to wonder what is the big change in the model at all (apart from louder speakers, very dumb headphones jack reposition, and gladly SD card support back in game...).
Now for the worst of it all: The playstore review content; HTC Development team seems to simply delete all reviews that are not saying what they'd like to hear. Either 1 star, 2 star, and comments that points to some issues - the review gets deleted within couple hours. I've been mentioning bugs on 3 apps, like 4 times so far, and all my reviews were gone... While they are kept on many other apps. I mean, is this the way to treat customers?!?
What are your thoughts? What are the bugs you found and I haven't yet...? I really want to know as much as I can, because I'm starting to regret for my choice....
I had the Note II and I always had trouble with the compass in gmaps. Specifically, if you are just looking at the map without having a destination entered (perhaps to review traffic), the compass would never work. The heading marker pretty much had a mind of its own. Well, I upgraded to the Note III, thinking that the problem must be fixed. Nope! Wrong! Nada! Same problem.
Well, I am probably getting close to upgrading again, and I was wonder what I can expect with the Note 4. Has it been fixed?
i have never had an issue with my note 2 or 3 or even 4 now!

Hmmm... on my phone the compass in Google Maps is there to show which way is north on the map. Not which way I'm facing although now that you mention it I do seem to vaguely remember there used to be a mode in Google Maps which would use the compass to change what was shown on the screen based on which way the phone was pointing.
I believe that got removed from Google Maps a couple years ago. At least I haven't seen it for a long time.
If I'm right, it's a "feature" of the app rather than a limitation of the phone(s).
I'm not talking about the red and white compass in the upper left corner. I am talking about the blue arrow in the middle of the screen that represents your heading. When I drive down a street, that arrow should also point "down the street" on the map. The arrow on my screen points in pretty much any direction other than the correct one.
Here's a thread that I started a couple of years ago that still gets posted to occasionally by other people that have the same problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44662834#post44662834
Additionally, google sky map is pretty much impossible to use for the same reason. The google apps have no idea what direction the phone is pointing.
*#0*# Calibration can help, but it usually reverts back to the broken state after a few minutes or after a reboot.
it shows me walking or driving the right way and google sky map works perfect as well and i dont even have GPS on high accuracy. i used sky map to see what a bright star was a couple nights ago and maps today and both are fine

It is not based on which direction the phone is pointing, it is based on which way the phone is moving. Has to be moving for the arrow to move. GPS in maps measures movement
I believe this is an inherent issue with the magnetometer/compass in all cellphones. All you have to do is shake the phone around (or swirl the phone around in a figure 8 pattern) to calibrate the magnetometer with the maps app open. You'll find that it is accurate afterwards.
Hi there.
I have two issues with the Facebook app on my G Pad 8.3/ V500:
One is with the embebbed video player. It shows jagged video. I think this issue (or similar) was reported by another user back in 2014 but had no replies. Basically, any video I play from Facebook will show itself as if it had the screen divided horizontally in 6 parts; The 3 "odd" parts will play on top of each other on the upper half of the screen, in black & white; The missing "even" parts will be on the bottom half, but mostly just black. Usually, if I play the entire clip and replay it, it will play ok the second time.
The second is visiting pages. Friend pages are Ok, but when I try to access a public figure or whatever page (like a band, or a blog, etc), it will show the banner pic, profile pic, and basic info, but will not load the wall. The loading "circle" just stays there "loading", but never actually loads the page.
If I clean the app data, the second issue will not happen for a few hours (or a few page visits - not sure). Then it will return. I tried doing a factory reset to the tablet, it solved both problems for a few hours, then these issues returned.
The tablet is not rooted (never was), and is running the OTA Kitkat update.
Not sure what might be. I don't have these issues on my phone (Huawei P6), or my wife's phone (LG L70). Could it be some issue with Facebook app and G Pad? Anyone experienced this? Could it be an issue with another app (the tablet automatically downloaded all apps previously installed after the factory reset)?
Thanks in advance.
Hi (from the other forum^^)
Just saw live this problem with facebook app, it's really weird as you say.
Also interested in a possible cause.
Same here, did you found the answer?
Thanks
No idea where to start. Even upgraded my phone to a S9+ six months ago in a desperate attempt to fix the issue(s).
YES - as per the Title, the issue is that I receive a notification from e.g Google Discover and although I see the notification (and it's short description/summary), when I click it (i.e. to open & read the story), the notification never actually opens. Well - that'd kind of a lie because it may open anywhere from 5 to 30 mins later. What's interesting is that this behavior is NOT seen on notifications from e.g. Google Messages or WhatsApp. So perhaps there seems to be a priority or white listing going on.
Here's where it gets even more interesting:
This extremely annoying issue will come-and-go i.e. just when you're ready to throw the phone in the ocean, it magically starts working again. After 1.5 years of living with this problem, I haven't managed to figure out what I've done to either fix or break it.
When I'm experiencing this annoying notification issue, I ALSO experience the following OTHER issues:
Apps that I download from Google Play will download to around 99% and just sit there and never "install" >> however like I mentioned above, that's somewhat of a lie because wait 5 to 30 mins and the App will magically complete the installation
YouTube will regularly crash
High battery consumption
Notifications for "big-name" apps like Outlook and WhatsApp are very irregular and in the case of Outlook, I wont receive anything for an hour and suddenly, I get a flood of notifications (one after the other at a "machine gun" frequency)
The point I make is whenever I have the problem with the Notifications explained above in [1] I will ALSO (concurrently) have the problems that I've mentioned above in [2].
It's like a horrible 2-for-1 deal.
Here's a bunch of things I've tried in the last 1.5 years:
Mentioned above, I've bought a new phone
Endlessly tried factory-resetting the phone >> on the last attempt, I even restrained from "restoring" the backup just in case
Removed my Google Account >> re-installed
Clearing cache from Play Store and Play Services
Uninstalled updates for Play Services
I'm totally out of ideas and sadly, totally out of patience. I have no idea where to turn because HTC (old phone) or Samsung (new phone) don't want a piece of my problem.
I'm convinced this is an account issue or perhaps some Google heartbeat issue but don't have the resource or knowledge to confirm it.
At your mercy
So about 2 weeks ago I got a galaxy z fold 3 device which I really like and it hasn't really given me any problems, with one exception - I assume it's because of the newer models interference with the app itself, because kindle may not have been entirely configured for the fold's versatility. Anyways, sometimes there's this glitch that appears when I open a book on my kindle app and zoom into the fonts to increase its size, and when I do that the page splits into one full page and one half cut-off page on the open screen, making reading uncomfortable. The same happens when the fold is closed and I just use the front screen. The glitch goes away when I restart the app, however it's really frustrating having to live with the uncertainty of when that problem appears in seemingly random time periods. I understand the extra steps for it to work regularly don't seem very important to begin with, but if you had to bash your front door twice or three times into its hinge for it to close properly, you would probably consider moving out or at least getting a new, working door. I can't find any relevant information online - is there someone with a similar problem who knows what's up with this? Thanks
I am not sure I am following you on the issue. I, literally, read books on my Kindle App on my Fold 3 every night before bed. I have opened a book and tried the whole Zooming thing you described, but I am just getting text zoomed in and out with no split pages or any blank sections anywhere.
A couple things you can try is to go into the App Settings and then Storage and Clear CACHE (not data) and see if it helps.
You can also uninstall the app and re-install to see if that helps.
Other than that, can you provide screenshots and/or a video?
Try clearing the cache of the app, update it, and uninstall it and re install it again, then reboot your phone
