I just wish they would hold a slightly open beta for it for people willing to risk their phones. I mean have multiple pages saying "we will not be held liable for any damages to your phone or other devices" with a nice little "agree to these terms to continue". Just a wish is all. I support them, I'm just anxious and I know other adventurous people are too ;-)

I agree. I have had the best form of root. It is so secret I can not even share the name, I have had it since 1984. It will root all past present and future phones. The only other people that have it are the Obama/Osama twins.

Because they are 2 different phones? Just because 2 phones have the same android version, doesn't mean the exploits for root are the same. Instead of complaining about, try to help out.
Keep in mind, it took MONTHS to root the FroYo update. Just give it time
If your stuck without root because you needed a replacement, I'm sorry, that really sucks. But if it's because you broke one of the cardinal rules of rooting (do not take an OTA), then I do not pity you.

What are
- Kernels
- Raido Version
- Recovery
How to change kernels? Is it feasible to change kernels?
I've seen that for few roms it's been mentioned, "Latest radio version" needed. How to get latest version?
Recovery - it's clockwork mod with me. I've seen posts people saying they're havibg some different recovery. Advantages or disadvantages?
I flash roms every now and then but sometimes these terminologies confuse me a lot.

These people above have been pretty kind in their responses...we'd all benefit from someone explaining things personally to us, but unfortunately this isn't the place for that. That's why I use the villainrom irc for all my help with miui roms. Honestly, i love those villain guys. Lol.

Don't let Dirk hear you say that. He's all over MIUI at the minute. I had a fling with it for a couple of months but ended up back at AOSP eventually. I still think about it sometimes. It's not like I still love it, but it will always have a place in my heart.
Edit: Or did you mean Point Of Sale?
Hey XDA goers,
I've been following the development of ICS roms for the EVO, but I've been hesitant to switch as I live in a well-covered 4G area. I understand that there aren't any similar drivers for WiMax/FFC for the EVO on ICS, but would it be possible to get the two working if you had the appropriate skill? I know HTC has their development section and whatnot, but I know little about the important workings of roms/kernels/drivers etc.
Thanks devs.
Edit: Please forgive me if this has been answered, I had difficulty finding the info.
TL;DR: Why is writing FFC/Wimax drivers so hard/what are the obstacles for ICS?
ICS is the new OS version for Android and HTC has NOT release their source code for devs to work from to implement 4G [Wimax] and FFC so right now devs are working off ports to bring ICS to our Evo 4G... I don't think is a matter of skills, I think is a matter of time.

Why don't we just email bomb the **** out of them and clog up their FB page with these requests? Not to say it'll do anything but wth right? How many users does this forum have using an Evo?

XDA
Means to me...
A place to obtain, read about, and research issues with your devices. A place with a plethora of information designed with the end user in mind. Ever since I have heard about flashing phones to be more of what an end user would want to have on their phone, I knew I had to know more.
It started after I bricked my LG Ally, and I needed to know more. I bought my Droid X2, and from their the sky's the limit. Now I am on my Inspire 4G ported to Straight Talk and there is still much to learn and explore.
XDA Developers also bring light to what the future holds. Through developing and testing, some parts of mods Google then implements into their releases and the hardware then develops around the software to become one. Very interesting concept and hope it continues to thrive like it does!

XDA is a place to learn new things and also to help people with problems that you know the answers too.
I was introduced to xda by a mate who taught me the basics about android, before that I thought rooting was something u did with a woman and flashing, well that could have got u in trouble ha ha! But thanks to this brilliant community I have learned a lot in the year I have been on here, met some bloody sound people and have also given half my immediate family and a few friend's phones a new lease of life with the knowledge I have gained. Hopefully will learn more and my bottom line is, I'm glad I discovered xda!
