[Q] Faster Battery Charger - General Accessories

Hi, i was wondering if there are any 'super' or 'turbo' chargers for phones. Chargers which charge up the battery faster.
I am going to get a 3000mah battery for my desire but i remember reading somewhere that they take ages to charge up.
My current desire has a charging problem, and does not charge at all at most times, even though charger is plugged in it stays at zero% charge.

Try Battery Monitor Widget. There you can see how many mA your charger puts into your device. You can't charge batterys too fast. There is a limit given by the battery. There is also a difference in chargers. You find them in the technical data.

Remember the charger is in the phone, the thing you plug into the wall is just a power supply.

Certain kernels will charge faster than others as well. Look for a fast charge kernel.

I have purchased in the store the battery charger, and spent two years no problem, it should be in there you can find what you need.

My change to a glitch kernel not only made it much faster, but the battery life seems better as well.

Charging via power supply plugged into power sockets is definitely better than charging via USB cables. Also, check out for cases for your phone which are capable of charging it too. I have seen some of those available for iPhone.

Alright, I picked up this setup a few months ago and I really enjoy the battery and the charger.. Well, I really don't like taking the battery out every day. So, my question is why does the phone stop charging at a certain point? Maybe I am not understanding when to clean the battery stats..
When the battery charges off the wall charger, it last way longer.. But when it charges over night through the phone, it doesn't last worth of a crap..
Can there be a change somewhere in the code, to let the battery charge longer?
your thinking of a sbc kernel or "trickle charging" by using one of these kernels you'll get what your aiming for although there are many reports of batterys frying or even melting. Ive never experienced any problems before though.
There are a number of available kernels that 'hack' the method by which the device charges. Use at your own risk, as there are potential implications for the life (and stability) of the battery.

There are countless different external chargers on the market, so there's no 100% accurate answer to that. Most external chargers are applying a safe charge in a similar manner as if you charged the phone directly while it was turned off. I don't know specifically of a dangerously designed charger out there, but I'm simply acknowledging that one could possibly be out there.

In fact, it says that is using a charge current of 350mA on the battery. That's very gentle, but also why a number of the reviews say that it takes longer to charge with it than charging the phone directly.

The wall charger is set to stop at a certain point. To all I know it doesn't overcharge. I know my battery lasts longer.

Sounds like a similar or identical charge when you turn off your phone and just plug it in.
It charges it more but will also shorten your battery life in the long run, though I'd assume it wouldn't be very dramatic. If you kept tabs on it you'd probably notice a significant difference in a couple months on which battery holds a charge better (phone on charged vs charger charged)
I found a good combination for me was to get the HTC extended battery and use a Kernel that is less power hungry (such as chad's incredikernel).
With a silicone case around the extended battery, it really is a nice setup.
But whatever works for you, the battery swapping would drive me insane though.

Wow, what a great improvement over stock which takes 6+ hours. This makes me believe, that even though the stock output is rated at 1000ma and this charger's output is only rated 700ma that this charges works correctly!
If you have a 1800mah battery and you charge it at a rate of .7A, it should take it exactly 2.57 hours to charge, (1800/700). With stock it should take less, because 1800/1000 = 1.8 hours, but it takes 6+ hours to fully charge! Something is f'ed up with the stock charger or phone's software...

My wife stayed with hers, maybe I will try charging my phone on hers. I wonder if that would make a difference...

At first my charging was extremely slow but now it'll charge from 2 to 100 in under three hours

I use the Palm charger from my TouchPad. Will go from dead to fully charged in about an hour and a half.
What's you TouchPad charger's output in mah? I think I might have to splice into a spare USB cable and check how much current is actually used by phone when on stock charger...pretty sure it is nowhere close to 1000mah.

According to BatteryMonitorWidget, it estimates avg mA charging at 270mA using the stock charger that came with this particular phone.
I have my original charger from my Evo 4g and have noticed that it charges my phone a lot faster then the stock one that came with the phone. :-( weird

That sounds about right! I'll see if I can test this with my AMP meter tonight and tell you all for sure on stock vs new samsung charger that I've got.

Yeah, at 2000mah it should charge in less than one hour...I would say your actual charge current to be around 1200mah...
i would be careful with these chargers.
i have dealt with a lot of Li-Po's in the past and there was a formula to how fast you should charge them.
i imagine it is the same deal with Li-On.
charging outside such formula could kill the life of your battery or worse.
Seems like i must have gotten lucky as a ton of people are having problems with their phone or chargers.
I just charged my battery from 0 to 100% off the stock charger in 2 and a half hours and i also havent gotten any of the dodgy input problems using the phone while charging.
I went back and took a longer look at the battery history when charging. When starting the charge at 65% it starts off around 828mA, then 540mA, then 360mA, so it looks like (as expected) the phone knows how much current to pull to charge the battery safely and it adjusts based on how full the battery is. Not saying it does this for the charger included with your phone, but that is the behavior for the charger included with this phone.
These are all estimates provided by Battery Monitor Widget because there is no real-time mA current meter in this phone (according to the author)
Ordered one of these. Stock charger takes a lifetime to charge the phone.
My GF got Nexus S 4G and it's stock charger also takes 6+ hours to charge, so there's something wrong with the chargers I guess...
The pins on this charger must me different than the stock charger. Just because the stock charger is rated up to 1Ah doesn't meant the phone or batteries circuitry allows that much output. The resistance and length of the USB pins on the cable are what determines the output of the charger. Simply using a different USB cable with the stock charger will get you faster charge times.
Using a 2Ah charger will get you nowhere, the circuitry doesn't allow that strong of a current. Just a bit of an FYI. Save your money and save your phone, use a different USB cable.
Also, how is the charge time holding up? I doubt you're getting a saturated charge with that charger.

Ive dealt with 1,2, and 3 cell lipos ranging from 150mah to 5000mah, and every one of them either say to be (or ive been told its recommended to do so) charged at 1C. so a 500mah battery should be charged at .5A, 1000mah at 1A, 5000mah at 5A, etc...
my lipo charger displays a bunch of info as the battery charges and it definitely drops the current as the battery gets closer to being fully charged. if its the same with li-on then I would imagine that .18A should be the most you would charge this battery, but Id rather it take a long time because unless things have changed recently, doesnt the slower you charge the battery prolong its life cycle as well as extend how long it lasts each charge? I only charge mine at night when I am sleeping so who cares if it takes longer than an hour. if I get into an emergency situation I have the cig lighter charger and in the worst case I even have one of those crank flashlights I can use to charge the phone in the event my car battery shorted out or something...

Anker Wall Charger Issues.

I just bought my T-mobile 16gb GSIII yesterday and I have Anker universal wall chargers for my spare batteries. Ever sine I got my HTC Sensation, I've used spare batteries and Anker wall chargers to get the better battery life then I would plugging up my phone in. I put ms OEM GSIII battery in the wall charger overnight and the indicator turned blue signifying a full charge. When I popped it in my phone it was only at 92% charged. I figured it was a mis-read so I popped it back in the wall charger. It wasn't a mis-read, the wall charger won't charge it to 100%. When I charged the phone by plugging it in via usb cable, it acheived a 100% charge. I'm just curious if anyone else has had an issue with the wall chargers.
From what I have read here on other threads, the battery is not supposed to read anything more than 99% once unplugged from a charger. I believe Samsung did this intentionally as a fail safe for the batteries.

As my original post states I'm having an issues getting a charge above 91%, regardless of how long the battery charges. The full battery indicator is solid blue and when placed back in my GSIII it reads 91%. If i was able to achieve 99% I wouldn't have had any reason to post my question.
I have read about this issue on mobile01.com as Im Chinese... This seems to be a common issue, it seems per my understanding is that the S3 has an intelligent charging circuit, which slows down the charge and current when its 90% or above, and will allow for a charge to a higher terminal voltage. If you use an external battery charger it will not charge it to 100%.
Are there any external charger out there that have this "intelligent charging circuit" I always thought the charge protection is built into the Li-poly battery.
I have the same problem since I got the batteries last week. The batteries work great but the anker external charger will only charge mines to 91%, its a known problem. I might get the Samsung OEM s3 charger and battery, that shouldn't have a problem charging these badboys to100%.
No external charger (that I have found) will take these batteries past 91-92 percent. You have to get the samsung factory charger to achieve this.

Anyone else having problems with extremely slow charging?

When I first got this phone I noticed it charged pretty slow. 5 hours to get to full from 0% but it then got a lot worse. Over night it would only charge from like 18% to 41 so I got a new charger and wall adapter and that seemed to fix it for a couple days but now it is charging slow again. From 70% to 100 it takes about 6-7 hours. Anyone else experiencing this?
The only time I've heard of that happening is when people fail to 'condition' their lithium battery properly before normal use.
In other words, upon getting your new phone, and/or battery, you're suppose to allow your battery to fully discharge and then fully recharge 3-5 times to condition your battery before plugging it back in half way through discharge.
It's usually what the carrier sales clerks are suppose to tell you when purchasing a new smartphone.

I never had/has/have doing it. And I dont have battery issues.
I think the battery calibration/cycle..etc is just a myth.
Go to the store and check for warranty.

Could it be a rouge app causing it to take so long to charge? I noticed today Google maps was using a lot more of the battery than usual. Almost as much as the screen. I tried force stopping but it just starts right back up again. Any ideas on how to fix the maps app? I have a feeling that is what is causing it.
I have this problem. It is very annoying and I have no idea what causes it. It doesn't happen all of the time though.

Just sounds like a bad install of something. I would do a factory reset through the stock recovery, and make sure to wipe dalvik cache.
My phone has started charging slowed as well, but mostly when connected to the computer. I made sure my usb ports were set to not allow the computer to shut them off to conserve power and it seems a bit faster. As far as charging and discharging ect ect I don't do that and never had a problem with slow charging and even the couple of times I tried it, the battery life never really improved. So think it is needed and some think it is a waste of time.
Charging via a computer USB port will always be slow when compared to the higher current capacity of the included AC charger. Computer USB ports have a lower current rating.
Make sure your using the charger that came with the phone, not all chargers are created equally.
There's also been some talk about the quality of USB cable being used, but I haven't found that myself yet.

I have tried numerous chargers while at work here (Technician) and there are some issues.
Samsung is funny on which chargers it accepts. Very funny.
1. Stardard charger that comes with the device will charge best. (Obvious I know) Using wall charger. (Full charge in 3.5 to 4 hours from 1%)
a. Using USB end plugged into PC while charging takes typically from my tests double the time to charge. (I'm guessing that data connection to PC is slowing the charge. (Full charge in 6 hours from 1%)
2. 3rd Party Generic charge cables (usb cable only) still charges device however stardard power draw is lower and does not charge in a decent time period.
a. Some 3rd Party usb cables plugged into a pc showed charging however they did not keep enough of a draw to actually charge my phone. I lost battery instead of gaining.
3. LG chargers did nothing for me. Couldn't get a decent charge.
Motorola chargers gave me the best charge besides the original.
Chargers with replacement tips... what can I say. They didn't seem like a good idea and weren't. I had too many issues and at times had some overheating issues. Luck of the draw me thinks.

About charging: I have noticed that micro USB cable that come with S3 is really bad - it is loosing a connection to PC,and, beside that, I have noticed several times slow phone charge... Accidentally went to settings- battery - when I was on AC charger and saw in settings that phone is actually charging in USB mode!!! Wtf??? Disconnect usb from bottom end (at charger side) and reconnect and then on phone says " charging - AC" ... So,conclusion is that you check your phone charging status when you put on charger,maybe it is charging in USB mode and because of that phone is charging slower than it should on regular AC power.
The only battery issue that i have noticed is when i use my computer to charge it takes forever but when i use the factory wall plug and cable it charges quickly with no issues

Anyone got any experience with using an ipad charger on an sIII. I know an ipad wants a lot of power to charge.

Very slow charging with OEM charger.. i9300
This is a fact. The OEM wall charger surely has some issues. Though 1amp output, as claimed on th specs chart, my i9300 charges super slow. From 80% to 100%, it takes nearly 3 hours.
So, i switched chargers and used my S2 and Note OEM wall chargers. And voila, the phone charges super fast. I even ordered a new OEM charger for s3 with the data cable included and the same issue occured.
This has worsened ever since the JB update. So I am now using the S2 charger and very satisfied.
SWTICH OVER GUYS!! OEM charger is useless,,,
I have had my phone on USB to computer charging for 7 hours, with a one hour break to watch Dexter. I was at 18% and I am now at 69%. I think I will have to use the wall adapter because this is just ridiculous.
Usb to pc will always be slow buddy. It outputs 500ma while d wall charger is 1 amp
I found my Usb cable faulty. Sent for replacement.

Without reading all the post. I have had this same problem. Took phone to sprint, they tested the battery and it was bad. Got a new one and good to go..

Slow / Inconsistent charging

Hello!
Charging problems started to occur a month ago on my phone. The problem is that it charges really slowly, but other times normally.
I experienced that if I plug in the phone when the battery is between 20-60% it charges super slowly.
Sometimes it speeds up but more often not.
Here are some screenshots that show that sometimes it takes like 6 hours to charge and sometimes it basically just hovers around a percentage and doesnt do anything. Gets like 10% overnight.
On the second picture you can see that it charges normally till it reaches 55% then it slows down to like 5%/hour speed.
I noticed this while the phone was draining battery even tho it was plugged in while using it.
I bought a new OEM battery and its the same with it aswell. Some chargers charge it quicker, some slower, but the problem occurs with every charger.
What do you guys recommend me to do?

U can also try to recalibrate the battery deleting the data/system/batterystats.bin file

I have used many chargers since I have this problem, but mostly the one that came in the box.
Ill try deleting that file if its possible withouth root.
Edit: It seems i need root for it, so its not an option for me.

Actually brother initially same problem occured with me and it was persisting on the same way load since i come to change my charger now before i was charging it with blackberry passport charger it was really cool and even charges it faster that i mean around 50% faster than the previous charger, but now days m befitted with moto g4+ which meets to charge my lg g3 around 65% faster
But brother dont use any local company pr anypther charger as it may damage the phone display which may come to cost you at high
There are going to be 3 main factors that you want to address:
- Battery
- Charger/charging cable
- Software
It seems you have already addressed your battery. That's usually the #1 culprit, but you've already replaced it so you can rule that out.
The next is the charger and charging cable. This is often overlooked. The stock charger is 5 volts and 1.8 amps (5v 1.8a). Before more advanced smart phones were developed, almost all USB chargers never produced more than a 5v 1.0a charge (most were 5v 0.5a). So you want to ensure you are using at least a 5v 1.8a charger. (I even use my Fire Tablet charger on my G3 which is 5.1v 2.2a, and that works great too). Note that all USB chargers have their output volts/amps printed on them somewhere (usually in very tiny print). The USB cable you are using matters too. The thinner the wire gauge and the longer the cable is, the less power is transmitted. For example, if you're using a thin and cheap 6 foot (2 meter) USB cable on a 5v 2.0a charger, you may only be getting 1.0a of charge from it. If you use a thicker, shorter, and more expensive 3 foot (1 meter) USB cable on that same charger, you ensure you get that full 2.0a of charge (or close to it). The two factors to look for in a USB cable is length (length = resistance = less amps) and wire gauge (not insulation thickness).
The last is software. If you have any way to backup and restore (ie nandroid) your ROM from recovery, I recommend doing that first because it's easy. If you backup your current ROM, factory reset, and the issue persists then you know its the charger/cable. If the issue is gone, then you know it's something in your current ROM. If you do not have access to backup/restore features and/or do not have root, then next you can use the Android OS Battery stats to carefully go over what could possibly be draining so much power when the phone is on or off. There are also several apps that will help you determine where the battery drain is coming from. Note that software can not prevent your phone from charging, but it can drain power so fast, that there is not enough left over to charge the battery. This is especially bad for our G3s because they easily overheat if they are charging and heavily discharging simultaneously.
