cm is aosp? it includes a lot of apps and you know it is cm when going to setting cyanoge..

The additional settings and mods are custom made, but the base is AOSP. What would you categorize it as?

ok, you're right but is it possible to remove all addicional settings and mods ?

That is precisely what DevNull is. But, it's still in Beta, and , it doesn't have FM Radio. If you see CM7, the FM App is developed by the MIUI Devs, which probably implies AOSP doesn't support it yet (Don't quote me on this, I am not a dev). Also, there's an app being developed (Spirit Radio, if I am not mistaken), which claims to enable FM Radio on supported handsets. So you can try that on an AOSP ROM you use.

thx

CM7 is an AOSP rom with useful additions. No reason to choose a clean AOSP rom over it or remove the additions really.
@3xeno Yeah, AFAIK FM radio is not considered standard hardware and therefore vendors have to develop their own FM app.

why does Bluetooth gets turned on when i switch on fm radio ....on CM 7 ???

Because they share the same chip. The difference is Sense hides this fact from you when FM is switched on.

HTC FM Radio app

Has anyone gotten the HTC FM radio app to work on either Cyanogen or Openfire yet? If so can you please attach the .apk or tell me how you did it ?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
don't think anyone has already succeeded...
hope i'm wrong though
any news on this? the htc radio is much better than the one included in CyanogenMod-7 ...
I'am already thinking of flashing a HTC based ROM...

If you feel that way, do so.
I for one, cannot see any difference whatsoever between HTC's FM and CM7's FM (Except for the number of Preset Stations). Anyway, HTC Apps will never work with CM ROM's, just so you know.

The differences that bug me:
-) Can only store 5 stations
-) The Buttons on the Headset change the frequency by 0.1 mhz, instead of searching the next working station in that direction
Maybe you can take the fm radio .apk from a htc sense based rom???

Yes, storing 5 stations is a downside as I said. But, the way I see it, it is a huge improvement over not having FM at all, which was the case for so long (And looked to be the case even in CM7)
Anyway, as I previously said, if it is a deal breaker, you have no option other than switching to a Sense ROM.

Wont work. HTC Apps require HTC Framework which is not present in AOSP ROMs like CM.
Sorry i just forgot that :S
hmm. yeah well im gonna test CM7 rom some more and gonna weight the pros and cons afterwards. are there any other fm radio apps other than htc and the one included in CM7?

[Q] AOSP vs. Sense Question

If these is a good thread that truly answer my question please point me in that direction, I must have missed it.
When it comes to the Evo 4g specifically, what are some of the disadvantages of going with an AOSP rom, and what are the reasons for them? (Not CM7 specifically, AOSP in general)
Such as, it sounds like GPS and the compass generally do not work as well in AOSP builds as in Sense. -> is it true and is it just due to not being able to use HTC drivers/code?
3g speeds are slower -> Same as gps?
Thank you!
Im on CM7, and no faults. My 4G I can get 6mb down...3G is fine. My GPS is SPOT on while indoors even, never have had to use a fix. AOSP in general is smaller in size, so it can run faster. The only downside is you don't get sense apps and widgets. Though while on AOSP you have to flash a sense rom to update PRL, but that takes 5 minutes.
Some users have different experiences though. Its worth a try.
In my experience, AOSP ROMs have better battery life without sacrificing performance or neutering push notifications. Also AOSP is going to be your earliest opportunity to play with the latest Android builds.
Maybe I am doing something wrong but when I'm on cm7 my gps does not work very well at all. I would use AOSP but I personally have not found one that my gps is reliable on.

Did you try the fix on a sense rom? Also, you can try opening maps first, then navigation; that works for some users.

[Q] AOSP ROMS as at Sept 2011

Hi all,
The Dev Forum seems to be pretty abundant with Sense-based ROMs at the moment, and I guess that's to be expected with 3.0 being everyone's new(ish) favourite thing, but not all of us are Sense fans and I just wanted to get people's opinions on the current state of play concerning AOSP ROMs and their latest versions, especially around battery life.
What have you used / are you using, and how do the current suite of AOSP ROMs compare with each other in terms of battery life (but other stuff as well)?
I'd love to hear about people's recent experiences.
Thanks.
This rom is the best aosp rom I've used yet. Blazing fast and amazing battery life.

I tried Gingerbeast, HydrogenMod, Hikari, CyanogenMod and Ginger S and I can't seem to get any of them to be 100% fully functional. I've had a problem with bluetooth not working, not being able to import contacts, the home button stops working, com.android.phone force closing, etc. I've full wiped, reinstalled, fixed permissions, etc, but I can't get any AOSP rom to work. Surely there must be a leak of the AOSP rom that HTC use before adding Sense and other HTC addons?
While AOSP roms are light wight and seem fast they will never compare to roms built off of sense roms. Why you ask. Look at the roms like CM7 and other AOSP roms, they have to use open source drivers that dont make full use of the hardware. Like wifi and blue tooth. Both lose 25% strength because of the Open Source drivers instead of using the drivers built for the Phone like the closed source HTC drivers.
Umm, apologies if I've confused myself out of sheer ignorance, but can't you just flash a custom kernel like Lordmod's excellent one, which DOES contain official DHD phone drivers?

Sense based kernels will not work on an AOSP roms
LM is a aosp kernel.
i don't see any problems with pretty much all of the AOSP kernels i have used (Most CM based ones, quite a few Miui Ones, and the default CM7). The Wifi and BT work, gaming is pretty good, and its also much less laggy (Sense based roms occasionally freeze for no reason. Its annoying with music playing)
The only thing i dislike about AOSP roms is the camera which doesnt have touch to focus video recording, but pretty much every other sense feature can be replaced by a free, custom app (LauncherPro is much better than rosie 3.0/.5, custom video players play more movies, etc.)
you could always flash a sense/rosie/app remover on top of a sense based rom

Unless you needed to connect to a spicific type of network or need BT to work a certain way you wouldn't notice it.

Yeah, not sure about that 25% statement, mate.
I've been running CM7 Nightlies or CM-based ROMS for a while now and, if anything, I've noticed a significant improvement in connectivity (in general) from what I previously experienced on Sense ROMs. I'm sure that Lord Clockan's excellent kernels have a lot to do with it, but anyway...
I suppose everyone's experience is different.
Hy,
I am also a HUGE fan of AOSP. Since I bought my DHD it had Sense for one day because I had no time to flash. I also spent some time comparing Sense vs. AOSP Roms, and can say that AOSP has better performance on my DHD then Sense and always used them with the kernel they come with.
Aosp all the way. My recommended roms:

[Q] AVRCP 1.3/1.4 Support on ICS AOSP ROMS?

Im trying to see if anyone else has AVRCP 1.3 working in any AOSP ICS rom out right now. Supposedly CM9 and AOKP incorporated it into build 32 but I cant get it to work on my head unit. Stock ICS TW ROMS work. Has anyone else got the track info meta data to stream to the unit on any AOSP rom?
OLD POST
Im buying a head unit for my car that has AVRCP 1.3 support for for meta data. Does any of the stock roms support this..ICS or GB? Or how bout the CM9 Builds? If not can i get the stack and push it into the phone?

Got my Head unit in. Im running the ICS build and the meta data is showing on the unit fine. Cant speak for CM9 on ET4G but on my OG epic its a no go
Seems that none of the AOSP roms have AVRCP 1.3 support only ICS TW roms do.
No AVRCP 1.3 Support on AOSP
Hey All,
I have been researching this topic as well since I use my phone in my Civic over bluetooth. Unfortunately any AOSP 4.0.x doesnt have this support only TW ROMs have it. I really want to use AOKP or Codename, but I like to see the artist and track name.

So does anyone know if any E4GT roms other than stock ones support AVRCP 1.3? This is a must have feature for me, but I personally prefer AOSP roms. Sounds like this is only gonna work with Touchwiz based roms, huh? Crap.

Supposedly CM9 and AKOP do but I cant get it to work. I want to know if this is a upstream problem or a problem with our ports..
Aokp avrcp 1.3
So I have tested this and it is working on AOKP v32 in my 2012 Civic. The only weird part is that it shows an odd track #.
Please note this will only work with play music (google music) and the stock music player.

Yea im using play music but I get nothing. I have this unit and I know AVRCP 1.3 works because stock ICS works. Im lost.
It seems that the implementation of AVRCP 1.3 is not working correctly for alot of users. MarcLandis over at Rootz is working on it and has some builds that are showing improvement.

A ROM that supports FM and camera?

As an user of a Galaxy W, I'm greatly puzzled by the fact that not a single ROM I've found supports FM radio without purchasing an application, and most of them have a poor or non-existent support for camera. Is there a single ROM that supports those things that already come enabled in the stock ROM? Or is there a way to backport support for them?
all cm9 roms have good support for camera.
no cm9 rom has support for radio.
try gb roms.

Camera? CM9-based Camera is working, flawlessly...
But the FM Radio, you will need Spirit FM Radio for this.
